They have nothing in common—except a need to start over…
The drawback to having a picture-perfect life is that there’s nowhere to go but down—and Annalise Haverford is falling fast. Once, she was the self-proclaimed queen bee of Magnolia, North Carolina. Now her husband has been arrested for fraud, and she’s become an outcast in the shallow circles she used to rule. There’s only one affordable rental in town, and it’s owned by the woman Annalise got fired from a lucrative job.
Much as single mother Shauna Myer would like to refuse Annalise, who treated her like dirt on the bottom of her red-soled shoe, she needs that rent money. But when Shauna’s first love arrives in town, unraveling secrets she’d hoped to keep, Annalise becomes her unlikely defender. Meghan Banks, an elementary school art teacher whose quiet existence suddenly descends into chaos, is thrown an unexpected lifeline by Annalise, too.
As spring ripens into a sultry summer, the three spur each other on to share their fears and dreams, face new challenges, and seize second chances. Because no matter how turbulent life may be, it’s much easier to navigate those choppy waters when you’re buoyed by true friendship…
Bonus novella! The last Carlyle sister, new mother Trinity, finds love where she least expects it—with Magnolia’s upstanding chief of police, Asher Davis. Both Trinity and Asher think their romantic days are behind them. But then Asher asks Trinity for just one dance…
USA Today and Top 5 Amazon Bestselling author Michelle Major writes swoon-worthy stories full of heart, heat, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. When she’s not dreaming up romance, you’ll find her hiking the trails (or avoiding housework) in her home state of Colorado.
A cozy small-town story about three women who become unlikely friends, find themselves, and find love.
Annalise used to be queen bee, but has been dethroned since her husband went to prison for a ponzi scheme. Now she's divorced and raising two kids on a greatly reduced budget, working as housekeeper for a country music star with dreams of doing interior design. Oh and clashing with his very attractive ranch manager.
Shauna is a single mom of twins who never liked Annalise, but needs to rent an apartment on her property. She never told the father of her kids that she was pregnant, but now he's back in town and wanting to be a part of her life again.
Meghan is the local elementary school art teacher, but her position is getting cut due to funding. Or maybe because she wouldn't go on a date with the principal? Now she's fighting for art and music to get funded at the school, and working alongside that country music star who volunteers his time to teach music.
I really liked the friendship that develops between the women, seeing their growth, and seeing them find love. The ending is pretty abrupt and not satisfying enough to cover all three characters. This falls more into the women's fiction category than romance, but it does have strong romantic elements with a fade to black approach to intimate scenes.
Meghan is described as "curvy" but when she calls herself fat her friends are quick to say she isn't and that she's beautiful the way she is. Mixed feelings on this. I think the intent is to be body positive, but the execution is not. Fat can be a neutral descriptor and you can be both fat and beautiful. The two are not mutually exclusive and when people talk like this the underlying message is that they are.
I generally enjoy books from this author- she's good at cozy small town romance that's character focused and feel-good. This wasn't one of my favorites, but I still enjoyed it. I received a copy of this book for review, all opinions are my own.
The Front Porch Club takes readers back to Magnolia, North Carolina where three totally different women become friends and help each other out of the downward spiral of their lives.
Annalise had been a queen bee in town. She supported the school PTO, held charity events and was rich and snobby. Even her two children had a bit of an off-putting attitude and few friends. Annalise finds herself an outcast after her husband is put in jail for running a Ponzi scheme and defrauding his friends in town. The townspeople who lost their money are blaming Annalise as well as her husband. She in unable to keep the house and moves into a very small rental that is owned by Shauna.
Shauna is not a real fan of Annalise because she lost a major painting job based on the recommendation that Annalise gave to the PTO board. Shauna is the single mother of twin boys and is working hard to support them. She might not have a lot of money but her sons were the most important part of her life. When the twins father shows up, she isn't sure how to react. He didn't know about the kids and hurt her terribly when he walked out before she realized that she was pregnant. Can she let him into her son's lives and eventually into her life?
Meghan is an elementary school art teacher who has just lost her job due to budget cutbacks. She also rents a room from Shauna and tends to keep to herself despite the fact that she loves teaching.
The women have so little in common that despite the fact that they live close together, they work to ignore each other. They soon find out that life can be much better as friends and become not only friends but each other's support system as they deal with the problems in their lives.
This book was fun to read. I love small town romances plus I love Southern fiction and this one featured both. Plus books about friendships between women and how friendship can help women find their power in their lives is another theme that I enjoy reading. This is a light fun read!
There was something so satisfying about watching three women who don’t have a lot in common and don’t really know one another form a bond as they navigate new circumstances in their lives. I loved so much about this book including the friendship these women fell into, the fierceness in which they came to each other’s defense throughout this story, and the bond they forged despite their very different upbringings and lives.
Annalise has been on top of the mean woman heap in Magnolia until her now ex-husband is arrested and charged with fraud and she was cast out. Her circumstances have changed greatly and that includes moving from her mansion to renting the upstairs of a carriage house from Shauna, a woman who lost out on a big commission job because of Annalise’s recommendation of a different artist. Shauna needs the money for the rental; as a single mom to twin boys she isn’t sure about Annalise as a tenant until Annalise comes to her defense and sends the man who fathered her boys that she hasn’t seen in 7 year off the property. Then there is Meghan, the much loved elementary art teacher, who was just told her position won’t be funded for the next school year. Meghan loves her job but has social anxiety and isn’t sure how she feels about her new landlord or the woman who basically ruled the school’s PTO until her fall from grace.
Throughout this story we see glimpses of each woman as they work through their new circumstances, their feelings for the men who have come into their lives, and working together towards a goal of raising enough money through a benefit concert to save both Meghan’s job and that of the music teacher. There were highs and lows but throughout it all these three women were there to bolster each other up, to help them figure out their next move, or just be a shoulder to cry on. I loved their camaraderie and the way they all grew throughout this story.
My one complaint and it is always a complaint when I read this author, the ending is always rushed and in this book it simply felt unfinished especially for one of the women and that was hugely disappointing. I hope that means she will get at least a novella soon, but I can’t give this book more than 4 stars for what I consider unfinished story.
If you enjoy books about women supporting women, women fighting the good fight against mean people, and women who are willing to do what they need to do in order to make a living and enjoy the life they choose to live, then I highly recommend The Front Porch Club. For my romance reading friends; there are many romantic elements in this book and two of them ended satisfactorily although an epilogue would have been appreciated and the story of these three unlikely friends make this book worth reading.
The Front Porch Club is the 5th book in The Carolina Girls series, but can certainly be read as a standalone story. Annalise Haverford was the self-proclaimed queen bee of Magnolia, North Carolina. Now her husband is in prison for fraud, and she’s become an outcast in the shallow circles she used to rule. With her two children in tow, she needs to find an affordable place to rent, adamant that she will not be chased out of town. She ends up at the home of mural artist, and single mother Shauna Myer. The ad says she has a carriage house to rent. It is really a small two room apartment in the renovated garage. Annalise and Shauna have some negative history, but when Annalise comes to her aid, she decides to rent to her against her better judgement. Shauna has twin boys and has not told their father about their existence. When he comes to Magnolia to visit his brother, he finds out about them and plans on being a part of their lives, maybe Shauna's too if she will have him. The final woman in this unlikely trio is Meghan Banks, an elementary school art teacher, who finds out that she will be laid off at the end of the term as the art and music program are being cut. This unlikely group become friends and with support from one another, they all start over, have new beginnings and even find love.
The Front Porch Club is such a feel good story. There are three women who have all had bad luck with men. They are not looking for love, but when three tall, dark and handsome men walk into their lives, things get heated. There is a lot of slow burn romance and over the top chemistry, but these women still try to fight their feelings. I really liked them all, well Annalise had to grow on me, and as different as they were, they were all smart, strong and eventually independent. Annalise had to deal with a lot of judgement from others, even though she did nothing wrong. Shauna was a bit of a mouse and really didn't want to go home with her tail between her legs. I enjoyed this story, seeing the situations they had to get out of or deal with, watch the romance grow and see these three ladies become sisters. A wonderful feel good, summer read that I recommend.
I’m sorry, but until I get a resolution on Meghan and Walker I cannot give this book the five star rating I thought it would deserve. If I could give negative stars to show up as my rating I would. Truly I cannot believe Meghan’s ending. Are you kidding me? She has never had ANYONE and I read a book crying tears for this character as I see much of myself in her… and what does she get? NOTHING. Just another stake through the heart that once again she is not enough. I have loved all of Michelle Major’s books, but I am legitimately mad, upset, angry, and let down. Some of us NEED the happily ever after (or a freaking hint that Walker loves her) because our own lives have been ripped to shreds thanks to years of abuse and need the escape to believe there is happiness and hope and love even if it is fictional. I feel let down by what I thought would be one of my all time favorite books.

Okay after a few days I feel bad about rating this book one star. I still stand by my rant about the ending, but the book itself deserves five stars. 🤗🙃😇
The Front Porch Club is an enchanting, heartwarming story set in the quaint town of Magnolia, North Carolina, that takes you into the lives of three unlikely friends, Shauna, Annalise, and Meghan, who together tackle all the highs and lows of life including single motherhood, new love, old love, career woes, taking chances, and new beginnings.
The prose is fluid and smooth. The characters are genuine, supportive, and reliable. And the plot is a tender, hopeful tale about life, love, family, parenthood, heartbreak, attraction, introspection, contentment, and small-town living.
Overall, The Front Porch Club is another sweet, uplifting, satisfying addition to the Carolina Girls series by Major that touches on the importance of healing, friendship, self-discovery, and finding happiness.
Thank you to Kaye Publicity for gifting me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Michelle Major had be hanging on her every word! I was completely and absolutely SMITTEN with this story. These characters OWNED my whole heart. I read these pages with a huge SMILE on my face and a huge smile in my HEART.
The Front Porch Club was truly an ENJOYABLE read. With so many feel good moments and so many laughs, this story was so very FUN and extremely ENTERTAINING.
An absolutely DAZZLING read that leaves me wanting more. I definitely recommend this one!!
A story about three women who become friends while encouraging each other. One of the women is Shauna Myer who is a single mom with twin 5 year old boys. The boys father comes to town and Shauna is torn about letting him into their lives. The book was an easy. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
I usually love a romance novel for it’s happily ever after but I got so much more from The Front Porch Club. Even from the beginning I felt a restored belief in human kindness/humanity. The way these women bond together truly makes this a feel good story. Great addition to the Carolina Girls series!
What a cool series! I wish I had been reading this from Book One. I liked the characters, though they made connections a little faster than I think is realistic. Loved the school setting for a lot of the scenes, the farm, and the titular front porch! Those places helped develop the characters more than any other. The male characters were a little flat for me, but that’s ok. The sisterhood that was formed on that front porch won me over.
The Front Porch Club by Michelle Major is the 5th book in her wonderful Carolina Girls series. I have become a big fan of Michelle Major, having enjoyed her Magnolia Sisters, and now her Carolina Girls series. The Front Porch Club continues to take place in Magnolia, North Carolina; continuing the trend with a wonderful sweet story, with three fantastic ladies who formed a marvelous friendship. The three ladies were very different and unlikely to be friends, but over time their bond grew very strong. Let us meet our wonderful three ladies.
Annalise Haverford, spent years at the top of Magnolia’s society, but when her husband landed in jail due to fraud, with many people losing their money, Annalise is now an outcast in the circles she was a large part of. She is divorced with two children, and is financially in bad shape. She rents an affordable apartment from a woman who she treated badly. Annalise manages to get a job as a housekeeper, and she begins to see how badly she treated those in lower class.
Shauna Myer is a single mother of 5-year-old twins, who have never met their father. Shauna, who owns the building, agrees to rent to Annalise, whom she did not like, but she needed the rent payments. Being a sweet person, she goes out of her way to treat Annalise nicely, introducing her two sons to Annalise’s daughter and son. Shauna also begins to see Annalise trying to change the way she was, and in a short time, the start of a friendship begins.
Meghan Banks, is other new tenant, who is an elementary school art teacher, having recently been told that she will lose her job at the end of the school year, due to budget cuts. At first Meghan, steers clear of the other two ladies, but in a short time, she will join Annalise and Shauna in helping each other pick up the pieces of their lives.
Annalise comes up with an idea to do a Fundraiser, to not only help get more funds for Meghan to keep her job, but also add more funds to the school. I really loved the friendship that the trio built over time, overcoming many issues along the way, but always there for each other; as the bond of sisterhood formed. I enjoyed seeing the ladies find their possible love interest. Annalise, while working as a housekeeper finds her love in Jack, who manages the farm, owned by a famous singer, who now lives there. Shauna is shocked that Flynn who abandoned her more than 5 years ago, returns and realizes her two sons are his; he is determined to win her back. Meghan finds herself falling hard for the singer, Walker, but with his career on hold, is their any hope for her to win him over?
What follows is a wonderful heartwarming romantic story with all three unlikely friends that slowly become a sisterhood, with each of them helping each other to find second chances and upcoming challenges. I enjoyed returning to Magnolia and meeting a new group of friends, and secondary characters. The Front Porch Club was written so very well by Michelle Major, with three great friends, hot men, and so many wonderful secondary characters. The Front Porch Club was a very entertaining read.
3 very different women with seemingly nothing on common become unlikely friends and a support system for each other. Shauna is the single mother of 5 year old twins who have grown up without a father, until their father unexpectedly shows up and is shocked to find 2 plotter boys that look like him. Annalise spent years at the top of Magnolia’s high society, but has fallen from Grace since her ex-husband landed in jail, and she rents an apartment from Shauna. Meghan is Shauna’s other new tenant, and she has recently lost her teaching job due to budget cuts. The trio take on snarky PTO moms, hot men, and their own insecurities as they try to pick up the pieces of their lives and put them back together.
What made me pick this one up? I am a sucker for a small town romance, and books set in the South.
Did it live up to my expectations? Absolutely. I loved the friendship that these women built, and seeing them overcome their insecurities. while this book is a part of a series, it is a standalone novel.
I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn’t sure about this book, but the summary was interesting and I am glad that I requested it. Alternating stories of three women who each have to start over when their lives are in turmoil. Annalise’s husband stole from the people in town, was arrested and she and her children have become outcasts. The once proud Annalise will slowly learn to be a caring person as she comes to the aide of her two new friends, Shauna and Meghan. When the father of her twins comes back into her life, Shauna must deal with his return and her feelings for him. Funds for the school music program has been eliminated and Meghan, the school music teacher, will no longer have a job. When a famous country recording artist returns to town, he is attracted to Meghan and agrees to give a concert to raise money for the art and music programs which could save her job. Will Annalise, Shauna and Meghan finally get the second chance at life and love that they deserve? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Annalise's life falls apart when her husband is arrested for fraud. Now divorced, the queen bee mom needs a job and a place to stay. She rents the top floor of a carriage house from Shauna, also a single mom. The father of Shauna's twins has just come back into her life, and she's not sure what that means for her family. Annalise's downstairs neighbor is Meghan, a shy and single art teacher whose job at the elementary school is being eliminated at the end of the term. The growing friendship between the three women helps them face their challenges and fears, and learn to embrace second chances.
I loved these characters and how the women supported each other. Three romances in one book was a little much for me—I think this would have worked better if Shauna had had her own book, and Meghan's story were wrapped up in that book. Still, I was really invested in Annalise's story and enjoyed the way she got her happy ending.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I continue to fall more in love with the Carolina Girls and their perfect little hometown with every book that I read! I love the location, the author's writing style and the flawed, yet happy characters that she creates! This is labeled as book 5 in the series, however, the reader could start here and be ok. The author does a good job of filling in the previous storyline's so that the reader knows who is who and what is happening.
The reader really wants to dislike Annalise, but finds that they can't because she is trying so hard to fix herself and the past. They instantly love Shauna (but they know her from previous books) and they love Meghan who resembles them all in a way.
The reader's can't help but fall in love with the character's their love interests and the kids! This is one book that is sure to leave the reader with a book hangover to rival all hangovers! Zoom through it once so that you know what is going to happen and then start again so that you can discover all that you missed the first time! Another winner by author Michelle Major!
Three woman, as different as night and day, somehow become friends and support each other when most needed. A single mom with twin boys, Shauna rents out 2 apartments in her carriage house . The first floor to Meghan an art teacher at the elementary school and a divorced mom of 2 kids whose ex-husband is in jail for running a Ponzi scheme, Annelise, takes the 2 nd floor apartment.
As they face challenge and hardship all while dealing with doubts and innuendos, they gather on the front porch to share their lives. As new loves, jobs, and old relationships begin they grow to learn about strength, independence and the true meaning of friendship . You'll laugh and cry along with the ladies as they discover the life they're meant to live.
Although part of a series, this can be read as a standalone book. I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another great and wonderful read by this author! I just adore all of her books I have read thus far!
Three women who become unlikely friends. Who in school and growing up would not have been friends. Annalise the snobby rich girl who stepped on people and was hateful. But brought down to her knees and humbled along the way! Shauna raising her twin sons by herself as their father doesn't know about them til he does. Meghan who has been beat down mentally by her family and doesn't trust or believe in herself or anyone.
This unlikely group of gals form a tight friendship bond that carries them all through all the ups and downs they have going on in their lives.
I was really hoping there would be happiness for all three. Here is hoping that we get to read the happy story for one of the ladies soon! :)
More from a great author. A trilogy story, with single mom Shauna Myer, artist, and mom to twin boys, Annalise Haverford, and her two kids, and Meghan Banks. Shauna's an artist, and suddenly, the father of her kids, Flynn Murphy, shows up. Annalise is still reeling from her husband's arrest as a Ponzi scheme runner, with everyone in town shunning her, thinking she had to know about what he was doing. It doesnt' help that she had been one of the Queen Bee mean girls in town. But needing a job, she finds one as a housekeeper for country singer Walker Calloway, hoping to get a decorating job along with it. But Walker's manager, Jack, is in the way. And Meghan has just found out that her job has been cut, with the principal gleeful about it since she rebuffed his advances. But things come to a head with a plan to do a fundraiser for the school.
Three women are brought together by circumstances they had not seen coming their way. Annalise thought everything was sunshine and roses but finds out really quickly when her husband ends up charged and jailed for fraud. She falls from her lofty post of town queen bee, and the fall hurts, but she learns to get back up again and shows the town that she may be down but not out. She ends up renting a flat in a carriage house to live with her two children.
Her landlady Shauna Myer has been rasing twin boys on her own and trying to keep all her balls in the air and never in a million years would she believe that she was going to rent to Annalise Haverford, after all the women got her fired from a commission And when she thinks life can’t get any more complicated, the love of her life comes back and when he realizes that her boys are his too, it’s hard to keep all the secrets she been keeping. She also rents out the other part of the carriage house to the town Art teacher Meghan Banks, who just found out that her job is being made redundant. As these three women come together, an unlikely but surprising friendship starts to emerge, and they show each other just how strong they really are together, life gets a little less complicated when your have friends to have your back.
I loved this book. I think it is my favorite of all the Magnolia books. Michelle Majors small town stories are ones that you want to sit down on the front porch and become friends with these women. They were strong and yet all vulnerable sides that they tried not to show to the world. Once I started on this book, I could not put it down. I will admit that I felt Meghan's story with Walker is unfinished and hopefully we will get her continuing story in another book.
I give this book a solid 5 Stars.
I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review.
This story shows how important friendship really is. Three women with really nothing in common become friends and support each other in their crossroads.
Annalise was known as the queen bee now has nothing after her husband has been sent to prison and needs a place to rent. Shauna has a house to rent , the least likely person she wants to rent to though but opens it up to Annalise. Meghan rents the other part of house, an elementary art teacher, whose job is in jeopardy. These three woman join forces to save Meghan job.
This is more of a woman's fiction but there is some romance. Loved this book but I heart goes out to Meghan. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.
Annalise, Shauna and Meghan are the least likely to become friends, each are at a crossroads in their lives. Annalise went from socialite to pariah, Shauna is a single mom and her former love and father of her boys shows up and she is terrified to let him in again. Meghan is the elementary school art teacher who is pretty much socially awkward except with kids. Now that her job is being threatened she turns to Annalise and Shauna. The three of them become the most unlikely allies and friends who find out what it means to have strong women friends and the bond that will last a lifetime. This is a wonderful story of love, friendship and redemption. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
When 3 very different women are brought together by unforeseen circumstances, friendships are formed. Annalise's life falls apart after her husband ends up in jail for fraud. Her whole life style falls apart and she must work to rebuild herself and protect her children. Shauna is confronted by the father of her twin sons, whom walked out of her life long before they were born. Toss Meghan into the mixture and you have an interesting storyline. I would recommend this book to everyone.
I received an ARC from the author, and I am leaving my review voluntarily the opinion expressed here are my own.
Small town romance with heart! Another excellent book in the Carolina Girls series set in Magnolia, North Carolina. This one is my favorite so far! The friendship that grows between three unlikely ladies is not to be missed. Each has had more than their fair share of trouble with a capital T. Following along as they wade through one challenge after another, including finding love, was a true delight. The three women become 'ride or die' friends - the kind we all need in our lives. Major's vivid writing style, witty banter, heartfelt romance, and three-dimensional characters draw you into the story until you're sitting on the front porch with a margarita in hand. Highly recommend!
A sentimental and sweet small-town romance that shows the true strength of friendship! Each book in The Carolina Girls series has been easy to love and very enjoyable, but there's just something about this group of ladies who forge a strong bond in the midst of adversity and rally hard for each other that makes this one special. I loved this book wholeheartedly and only wished for a little more resolution in the ending.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that enjoys a small-town romance with endearing characters, heartfelt relationships and humor along the way.
Another in the Front Porch Club series, in which three women, each with issues about themselves and men are thrown together by their living arrangement in nearby apartments.
Analiese has lost her husband to jail and all te money he stole. Shauna is single and raising twin sons when her baby daddy shows up wanting to be a part of their lives. But does she want him? And Meghan may soon lose her job as art teacher at the elementary school unless Analies can pull off a fund raiser that may just save Meghan's job, if only she can convince a hot cowboy crooner to headline and bring in the fans and lots of money.
Complications ensue and create both laughs and tears. A winner!
The Front Porch Club by Michelle Major is book #5 in the Carolina Girls series. The three main women characters are so admirable. They each rose up to succeed and make better lives for themselves. They supported each other in these endeavors. This was a very enjoyable read. I really liked the characters (well, the jury is still out on Walker) and the stories of these three women touched my heart. I enjoy this author's voice and this book was true to that.
This is book 5 in the Carolina Girls series and can be read as a stand alone. Previous couples are updated and talked about. Shauna owns the rental that Annalise is desperate to rent. Their lives are both bleak and they learn to help each other out. Meghan is another soul in need of help and Annalise helps her out also. As the three women learn to navigate their new circumstances they find that people are able to change with the right incentive. Michelle Major has many books and I usually pick up new ones with her name.
I was sent a free copy of this book and wow I really enjoyed it! It my first ever book by this author, but she writes dialogue in a way that is sooo entertaining. The environment is also something I really enjoyed in the book, and how the relationships were developing in a good pace. I also liked how each character were struggling with something and that they were honest and open about that the whole time. It gave the characters way more depth and they felt very real. Will definitely read more of her books!
This is about a Southern belle, a stealing husband, a country singer who puts on a benefit concert, an art teacher whose job needs saving, and an orphan artist who needs a break. It's about the sisterhood you make and the chosen family that glues you together.
Good feels all around. Sex earlier in relationships than what makes sense to me, but not treated cavalierly. Well written. Writer feels like a modern Debbie MacComber. Thinking I want to look for a follow-up book.
