When Meredith Collins was a child, the little beach town of Cape Sanctuary lived up to its name. Spending summers there with her grandmother, Meredith finally felt safe and loved.
Now she’s returning in disgrace. Her late ex-husband swindled investors out of millions of dollars and made Meredith a figure of scorn—though she knew nothing about his scheme. But she still has the beach cottage she inherited from her grandmother and half ownership of the local café. It’s a place to work and earn a little money. That’s if her cousin, Tori, will let her through the door. Once, Tori and Meredith were as close as sisters—until Meredith chose her neglectful parents’ expectations over their bond. Now widowed with a teenage daughter, Tori isn’t setting out a welcome mat for the woman who let her down so badly.
While Meredith tries to make a fresh start, she is drawn to a mysterious writer renting the cottage next door. Liam Byrne’s kindness is a balm, though she worries he might not be so friendly if he knew who she was. But Liam has his own secret and a mission that will help Meredith confront her past—and maybe, claim a surprising future…
I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.
Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.
After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.
Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.
I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.
I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.
Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

Uplifting story of second chances for two cousins. Sweet romance with no graphic language or scenes. A great choice as breezy beach read with happily ever after endings for both women.
When down on all of her absolute luck Meredith seeks peace and a sense of starting over from her horrible marriage she runs back to the one place tang she always felt comfort - Cape Sanctuary where her estranged cousin Tori lives and owns a diner that she has found out she now owns 49% of.
This story is a feel good (kinda like all the others in this genre) of starting over and finding new love while navigating a slew of past family issues that have been ignored for years.
Meredith meets Liam who has ulterior motives — is he a good guy? If I hear Meredith ask about his book one more time I was going to lose it lol.
There’s a strong family element and romance mixed in. Mother/daughter drama and some money laundering mixed in. It’s a nice palate cleanser of a read. I would recommend.
I've been dreaming of the beach and summer, so I picked this one up to enhance my mood. Also, I don't think I've read anything by RaeAnne Thayne but I know she's a favorite author for many and thought I might be missing out - I was.

My thoughts:
This wasn't exactly the beachy read I was expecting, it was more about starting over, healing old wounds, and was somewhat emotional. Meredith had a lot to deal with after her ex-husband's terrible swindling of his investors and the suspicions cast upon her. Meeting Liam was so helpful to her and yet, his secret was another wound to her already damaged soul. I can't imagine being in the position Meredith was in nor how I would deal with it. The animosity of her cousin Tori was just more she had to deal with. I had to admire her just for getting up in the mornings and trying. I enjoyed this book and hope to read others by Thayne in the future.
Thanks to Canary Street Press through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on June 13, 2023.
Meredith and Tori, once as close as sisters, are estranged since Meredith left for what seemed to Tori a life of privilege. Meredith has lost everything and became embroiled in the scandal where her now dead husband bilked millions from unsuspecting investors. Now she’s back home. Meredith owns 49% of the small beach café now run by Tori as well as one of the beachside cottages her grandmother owned. Tori is not happy about this, but things are not as they seem.
I loved Meredith! She’s sad and feels partially responsible for the pain and financial ruin her husband caused, but I loved that after leading a privileged life she had no qualms about rolling her sleeves up, digging in and working hard. She didn’t make excuses, but she had plenty! It broke my heart.
I felt for Tori, as she felt abandoned. She was hurt, especially since Meredith didn’t even attend their grandmother’s funeral, but she didn’t have the full story. I felt she was pretty tough on Meredith, but this was a journey of forgiveness, healing, moving on from your mistakes, and embracing those important to you.
There’s a romance for both Meredith and Tori and I rooted for each of them! Liam disguised his identity and motives from Meredith, and I wasn’t too happy with him at first, but I understood as all was revealed. Tori has feelings of attraction for Sam, the brother of her dead husband, and the guilt she feels about that as well as the worry over what others think is a bit of a hinderance. They each have a teenage daughter, cousins, who get up to some teenage drama. Thankfully, they had each other for support.
As usual in this series, Ms. Thayne brings the Northern California coastal setting to life with her beautiful descriptions! It’s such a gorgeous area, sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean that take your breath away! There’s a spot I visit at least yearly, close to the Oregon border that I pictured in my mind as I read. The Café at Beach End brought out all the feels for me! I loved this emotional story so much!
A copy was kindly provided by Canary Street Press via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
Yay for 2 romance storylines and they were both so sweet. Balancing the 2 is hard because it feels limited really getting to know the characters, but it was still very enjoyable. If you like Hallmark movie romances, RaeAnne is your girl. Her books are cozy, a little depth, and the romance is clean and wholesome.
What a fun read. I loved the family forgiveness and the sticking together. I loved the falling in love at just the right time. I loved the painting of the cafe'. I just loved the whole story, and the happy ending was icing on the cake.
This was an enjoyable read that was perfect for summertime. It was cozy and lighthearted. Which was exactly what I needed between my thrillers! I highly recommend this one.
The Cafe at Beach End was everything I was hoping for to kick off my summer reading!
Meredith and Tori are cousins and grew up with a sisterly relationship until circumstances and decisions drove them apart. After being away for years, Meredith returns to the hometown that Tori never left, hoping to get her feet back under her. Will all the complexities of their lives bring them together again or continue to drive a wedge?
This book had a sweetness to it despite there being some heavy topics (death of a spouse, financial crimes). I found myself rooting for both Tori and Meredith regardless of what came of their relationship. They were doing the best they could within their own circumstances. And yet they never stopped being loving human beings.
Life is so complicated yet it is simple, and the author artfully wove it all together. There’s something to be said when the story is so well done that it could have been the story of your own neighbors.
This is the second time I’ve read one of RaeAnne Thayne’s books in the summer and I plan on making it a yearly tradition going forward!
Thank you to Get Red PR for the opportunity to read this book. The review expresses my own opinions.
The author may write the most adorable and heartwarming romance books I’ve ever read, I swear every single one of her books would make the cutest Hallmark movie and this was no exception. You get two romances, some friendship/family drama, some secrets and a gorgeous setting all tied up with a sweet little bow. It’s also a very fast read making it perfect to add to your beach bag to read in a day.
If you’ve read this author before, or even this genre before, you know that you’re in for a feel-good treat.
A down on her luck woman returns to a small town to claim her inheritance- a small cottage cabin and half ownership of a breast scraping by cafe.
Past family issues abound here and our MC has to suck up her pride and work through them.
There is a romantic interest in which you can’t tell at first if he’s a good or bad guy. Lots of secrets though.
In the end, I’m betting you can guess what happens. Someone is going to fall in love, secrets will be revealed and problems will work themselves out. And everyone, including the reader, will be very happy! 😁
I want to move to Cape Sanctuary. It is a place that fits the name perfectly. People come to Cape Sanctuary to start over, heal from life's wounds and become part of a wonderful community. When Meredith Collins was a child, she spent summers there with her grandmother, feeling loved and valued. As life went on, she married a man who was her father's right hand, approved by her judgmental parents and bullied, abused and kept in the dark about his fraud and theft. When it all came to light and he was imprisoned, Meredith was left with nothing. A few years earlier, her beloved grandmother had died and left a beach cottage and 49% of her café to Meredith. With her tail between her legs, Meredith heads to Sanctuary with the hope that she can start over, or at least have her cousin buy out her share of the café so she can move somewhere to begin again. Things don't work out that way, so she stays in Sanctuary and tries to mend the fences between Tori and herself. Liam Byrne is renting the cottage next door with plans to write his novel while in Cape Sanctuary. Liam and Meredith become friends and he helps her with her plans to freshen up the café, but he has a secret that could ruin their friendship when it comes to light.
I really enjoyed this story. It was sweet, full of forgiveness (self and for one another), reconciliation, family, community and more. There were two love stories in this one, where both Tori and Meredith find someone they care about. Tori is dealing with her own problems. She is a widow with a teenager who is rebelling. She also feels guilty about her husband's death and the feelings she is having for her divorced brother-in-law. I enjoyed seeing the two young cousins trying to figure out what they wanted and where they fit, it was so realistic, but I also wanted to ground them both for life. Watching Meredith change and develop some self-confidence was great and seeing her reach out to help others showed how far she was coming. There were a lot of themes in this one: forgiveness, reconciliation, domestic abuse, fraud and its effect on others, teenage rebellion, self-discovery and growth, guilt and more. RaeAnne Thayne has penned an enjoyable story that I recommend you pick up to read sitting outside and if you are near a beach, even better.
Review galley courtesy of Canary Street Press and NetGalley in exchange for my review. It was nice to settle into a RaeAnne Thayne novel again. The Cafe at Beach End is the story of family – the people who knew you when life’s possibilities seemed limitless and full of hope. Life took cousins Meredith and Tori on different paths but they are back together and now need to find a way of being in the same place. Tori is a widowed mother of a teenage daughter and part owner of the family cafe. She’s overwhelmed by being responsible for both. Meredith lived a luxurious life until it abruptly came to an end when her swindling husband went to prison for his crimes. Old insecurities, jealousies and presumptions are a few of the obstacles that could prevent the cousins from a bright new life. I appreciated the perspectives and issues of both women and how Thayne made it easy to empathize with them. Recommended to fans of women’s fiction and the author.

How do you start over when you have hurt so many?
Is starting over mean going back to where your heart feels the happiest?
How do you move forward when saying sorry isn’t enough?
These are the themes of RaeAnne Thayne’s latest in her Cape Sanctuary series where Meredith comes back home to her grandmothers’ beach cottage and facing Tori - her cousin’s disappointment over their torn relationship. I found this emotional and hopeful read enjoyable, and the romance a cozy and perfect beachside or poolside read.
RaeAnne Thayne has the ability to draw you in and keep your attention until the end. Meredith has had a rough life, abusive con man husband, distant parents and many disappointments throughout her post college young adult lifetime. Can she learn to trust again? Follow her journey. I have received this book as an advance readers copy.
Currently reading .. can’t seem 2 get that designation put on this title. GR giving me fits. So i just 5 starred it .. tho only 48 pages read. Main character is Meredith Collins (tragic background) .. has finally fled Chicago. Her Ex-husband, a horrible swindler, died in prison 2 years ago. She arrives in N’n CA where she has inherited a house from her deceased grandmother & 49% ownership in the town cafe. She comes very poor .. and beaten down. Tori, MC’s cousin, is co-owner/manager of the cafe. ( There are two romance stories .. but romance is not written that well imho.) Strong plot, good characters. I felt it was needlessly repetitive and a bit slow .. but nice ending. Will we see this family again ? I think it’s doubtful. c2023. Liam (MC’s guy) is a forensic accountant/investigator for the FBI which was interesting. This is an author I will not hesitate to read and she’s prolific so many more 2 find. :) [ $8 @ W-M .. get’g too pricey 4 me .. hello library & book sales !! ]
This is the sweetest book I've read in a long time! Meredith returns to Cape Sanctuary as she owns half of The Cafe with her estranged cousin, Tori. Meredith's husband was shivved in prison and died after scamming many people out of their life savings in a Ponzi scheme. Tori's husband, Javier died and she is left with daughter Emilia who is a teen longing for adventure. Enter Liam, a handsome data analyst working for the FBI, sent to investigate Meredith and let the "fun" begin! Clever and fast-paced, this book is a great summer beach read that will have you longing for a visit to this beach and cafe (and the handsome men that are there)! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I received a copy of the book for my honest review. This is my honest review. What an amazing story! I loved every minute of it and hated to see it end. A story if family, second chances and friendships. Very well written. A great cast of characters that draw you into the story and make you feel like a resident of Cape Sanctuary. I highly recommend reading this book.
A great story, loved it from the first page. Two cousins that are best friends and as close as sisters. Then life takes them in different directions. Now they find themselves widows and back to the place it all began. Can they forgive each other and find the closeness they once had. Can they build back their lives together ? Do they want to?
Another perfectly written story. Must read book . A perfect Beach ⛱️ read. Absolutely love this author's work. Her stories pull me in . They make me feel like i'm Woven right into the story.. And this one how I loved being on the beach on the cape.
Meredith collins,
She's been through so much. In her short life. Her husband who put her through things so un thinkable. Losing a dear one in her life and not being able to be there during that time.. But going home to the cape things are not what they should be. Only time can heal .
Tori,
Living on the cape, Life has always been good until they weren't. Things that happened to change her life.. Now running the Cafe being the boss. Doing what needs to be done.. So many losses in her life . A single mom taking care of her child that's Her main goal in life.
This book was absolutely fabulous.. I found it hard to put it down and I highly recommend it.. Because well I am a fan of this author. I have several authors that I really really like. And this is one of them..
This one was just ok for me. Not sure why I didn't like it more. I liked Meredith and admired her for trying to get her life back after what she went through, more so when we really learned what she went through. I liked Tori, yet her high horse about Meredith annoyed me. I'm glad that they worked through their issues. I even liked the guys that the women ended up with and how they all changed over the course of the book. But I'm also glad to be done with the book too.
A modern story about a broken family and how they find their way back to each other against the odds. Cousins who were like sisters. Disappointments that are hard to overcome and pain that is hard to live with. It is complex and wonderful.
Thank you to Getredpr, Canary Street and RaeAnne Thayne for the ARC!!
When Meredith Collins was growing up, Cape Sanctuary was just that - her sanctuary, every summer with her grandmother. Now, she’s returning under less than ideal circumstances; without her knowledge, her ex-husband swindled people out of their money. But at least she still has the cottage at Cape Sanctuary. She is hoping to mend her relationship with her cousin Tori, who runs their grandmother’s old cafe. She isn’t expecting to meet the handsome writer renting the next door cottage, but doesn’t want him to know who she is.
Another great summer read by RaeAnne Thayne! I read another book in the Cape Sanctuary series last year and it seems like these books lately have been kicking off my summer! I love the Cape Sanctuary setting, it feels like a familiar summer vacation. I appreciated the theme of second chances in this book and how the author showed Meredith’s growth an healing.
This review will be shared to my instagram blog (@books_by_the_bottle) shortly :)
This is the perfect summer beach read. I wasn't sure if it would be too cheesy for me, but I got into it.
Meredith returns to her childhood retreat, Cape Sanctuary, after her late ex husband was caught in a huge embezzlement fraud. She needs to patch things up with her cousin Tori since both co-own a Cafe. Meredith starts to build a relationship with her neighbor, a writer- but not really. He's actually undecocer investigating Meredith.
Tori has issues of her own dealing with her teenage daughter and feelings for her brother-in-law. She's not thrilled to see Meredith again and is just trying to keep things going best she can.
I really liked Tori and Sam. Their daughters are everything I fear about having a girl become a teenager (although mine is still only two). Meredith was also a good character. The only weak point for me was the plot with Liam. I just wasn't sold on him and thought his undercover plan was a bit silly.
Thank-you Get Red PR for my advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Cafe at Beach End by RaeAnne Thayne was a wonderful, and cozy, beach read. I always know I will be in for an enjoyable read when starting a book by RaeAnne. This story has Meredith Collins returning to Cape Sanctuary. She does this on the heels of her Husband’s conviction due to his Ponzi scheme. He has been killed in jail and she is she is hoping to find peace in the cottage her grandmother Frances left to her. She knows her cousin Tori will not be happy to see her and will need to try to work things out as they both share ownership in the Beach End Cafe. FBI agent Liam arrives to try to determine if Meredith knows where the rest of the money is. His Mom was one of the many who lost their life’s savings. Quick read you will certainly enjoy.
