The only way out of this marriage is to act crazy!
When a transmigrator wakes up in the body of the fictional villainess Scarlett Arman, a few things become abundantly clear: she is a minor character, destined to die like so many other antagonists in The Private Life of the Tyrant; her fiancé is the tyrant (and killer), and she has been transmigrated to a time period before the story has even started. Scarlett quickly realizes that her only chance to escape death is to get out of her betrothal and get rich on her own... but how to break off an engagement with a tyrant?
As Scarlett does everything that she can to show herself as unfit for marriage-from pouring wine all over her dress to singing an off-key love song to his face-little does she know that the tyrant has learned what she is up to... and is more endeared than before! Will Scarlett's wish to be dumped come true, or will all of her plans backfire?
With fairy-luring fruit trees and a cast of hilarious characters, Ten Ways to Get Dumped by a Tyrant is the perfect comedy of errors to add to your isekai romance collection.
I enjoyed this, and for the first three-quarters, the translation was definitely a cut above what I've seen from other translated Korean web/light novels. It dropped off in the final quarter in terms of translation and the middle of the plot dragged a bit, but overall this was a fun take on a crowded genre.
I really liked this one, but towards the last 10%, the translation got sloppy and rushed, like they were running out of time before the deadline hit. Still, I did enjoy it and will most definitely get and read the next one. Hopefully the translation is more consistent throughout it.
Also, the POV changed on occasion and it wasn’t always clear whose head we were tagging along in.
4, interesting premise done decently, stars.

It's an enjoyable fantasy romantic comedy to pass the time. I didn't laugh as much as I found amusement in the Emperor and Scarlet's families reaction.
I would have loved to see world-building started earlier. Some character development, but didn't land a hit in a way it may have.
As others pointed out, the pacing and translation in the last 10% declined. It rushed quickly through what should be a big development for Scarlett to avoid some future conflict felt brushed over.
It likely will get a sequel, maybe two. I will be continuing to read, but perhaps not reaching for it.
This was one of the funniest books I have read in a long while I loved Scarlett so much a great character to read about. I loved the characters so much especially Scarlett she is acting crazy to get the the tyrant Charlemagne to dump her it has backfired though she just managed to endear herself to him. I love her antics towards her terrible family great pranks especially the ones toward the Duke her abusive Father also the step mother gets a lot of it to the only good member of her family is her brother he is great character they seem to getting along better now. I also like Charlemagne there is more to him then the tyrant he seems Scarlett is really changing him for the better. I loved the plot it starts with Scarlett telling of how she became Scarlett when she previously was a Korean woman she sets out to ruin her engagement by acting crazy and play all kinds of pranks on her family she is looking forward to escaping and living her life the way she wants to but other things happen and there is more to it all then there seems looking forward to reading more soon.
The heroine in this novel is the epitome of "Never let them guess your next move." and LMFAO, I was caught off guard every time! She definitely shines in this and stole all the spotlight! I came for the tantalizing tyrant, yet her skits won me over. She really slays and is in charge! Abusive family? Abuse them back! About to be married to a tyrant? Better devise a plan to be thrown away by him! ...And the way for that is? To be hated by him! But of course, not too much to the point that he'd kill you, since he's the tyrant after all. Because of that, you guys, Scarlett ended up coming with multiple hilarious Youtube skits to prank the tyrant. Honestly, her ideas just keep getting funnier and funnier each time, and when I thought she had reached the peak of comedy, she proved me wrong, over and over again. Before I knew it, I was wheezing to death at 3 am. Seriously, top-tier comedy right here. If she has a Youtube channel she'd have soared. As for the ML? Lol that ice block sitting with me in the audience seat, a closeted fan of her skits. Honestly speaking thought, he grew up in a situation where he had to fight for his live. So, it's either kill, or be killed. I got the feeling that his title came from overexaggerated rumors, and he won't kill just anyone unless extremely necessary. In the entire story, he was playing hard to get (LOL though her hilariousness won him), yet also did his damnedest to protect her. Although, him playing hard to get got me more than Scarlett herself, since he left me wanting for more of his soft side to the point that I finished this book in one sitting. What a villain! I truly recommend this book! Read this story and wait with bated breath for Scarlett's next stand-up comedy--I mean, strategy to be dumped by the tyrant once and for all! Gosh, I have endless praises for the comedy!
Knowing that all the emperor's previous bride-to-be's have been killed by him, when Scarlett finds herself engaged to Charlemagne she is desperate to find a way to break off the engagement so she can live. She can't just run away - death! Can't call it off herself - death! So she comes up with the...uh...brilliant...idea of pretending to be crazy. And she comes up with some doozies to show her insanity.
A quick note, the novel version is available on Kindle and Tappytoon (and maybe other legit apps, though I use five or six regularly and don't remember seeing it) if you use it but not Kindle. There is also a manhwa version that I have *ahem* stumbled across (I totally wasn't looking for it, honest) in dark corners of the internet with, hmm, maybe 20 or so chapters fan translated (though you realllllly have to look to find the one with more chapters, not that I DID, because I didn't go looking for it. *sidles away*) Even if you only come across it in Korean, it is worth it to look because it is even funnier seeing her do this crap. Plus, Charlemagne is super sexy (he's become my most favoritest eye candy ever - at least until someone else comes along, but they're going to have their work cut out for them to surpass him. Hopefully someone will license and officially translate it soon so I can actually clutch it in my grimy little fingers while mooning over the illustrations.
Charlemagne finds himself bewilderingly fascinated by Scarlett, partly because she doesn't (seem, she's got epic levels of "hide emotions going on) to be scared of him and then, her actions are just...so bizarre. And it is pretty obvious to the reader and Charlemagne's aides (but not Charlemagne himself, or Scarlett, totally oblivious those two) that he is falling for her pretty quickly. It takes Scarlett forever to catch on that maybe he isn't quite the tyrant he is made out to be and yet, at the current episode, 65, she's still pretty sure he is going to kill her if she can't get him to break the engagement. She's dense about it, but that's okay because we just get to see her coming up with fun new ways to pretend to be crazy.
Charlemagne starts off reluctantly tolerant of Scarlett, but for all that he is known as a tyrant, even at the beginning he is fairly gentle with her, and he quickly moves into "super protective" mode. (As someone, other than him, is trying to kill her.
Wow. After that epically long spoiler - for anyone who skipped it...it was REALLY long - I have zero clue what I was saying. Ah! Charlemagne! One of the the things that makes this so hilarious is that fairly early on Scarlett unknowingly gives away she is faking crazy so he will break the engagement. He, of course, doesn't tell her because: 1) he finds her antics hilariously amusing (but hides it well), especially knowing she is making it all up; and 2) he's already gone on her and has no intention of letting her go, even if he doesn't quite realize it himself.
Scarlett's family life is pretty crappy, her father and stepmother are shitty and abusive. But she is surprised to realize that her brother actually cares a lot about her and has been doing his best to shield her from the abuse - which isn't something she remembers from reading the book. Knowing she is fairly safe from physical abuse - the one time someone hit her the emperor saw it and was slightly homicidal - Scarlett begins to play EPIC pranks on her father, and I thought some of them were really clever (but I've never been the "prank someone kind" so I'm not exactly up on what is, and is not, clever in these regards).
Around episode 55 or so, we get a new twist.
Eh, this turned into more of a synopsis than a review. My bad. *abashed* If you do come across both versions there are some significant (at least I thought so) changes, with one pretty important (again, at least I thought so) scene happening differently. Both are good, though there we some cool parts in the manhwa that were not in the novel. I suppose they could always come later, as the timeline of events was a bit wonky between the two. *shrug*
Anyhow, so far it has been hilariously funny, and Charlemagne is smexy, and obliviously smitten, and also, über-dashing. Isar, Scarlett's brother, turns out to be sweet and quietly protective, and Charlemagne's aides are having a blast laughing at Charlemagne and Scarlett over their obliviousness (but not where they can see - Charlemagne might kill them, and even worse, Scarlett might turn her dastardly pranks on them.)
So erfrischend!
Today's post is on Ten Ways to Get Dumped by a Tyrant: Volume I by Gwijo Seo. It is 280 pages long and is published by Editio Publishing. The cover has the female lead on it with three fairies around her. The intended reader is someone who likes silly, romance fantasy stories. There is mild foul language, no sex, and mild action violence in this novel. The story is told from first person perspective of main character, Scarlett with the occasional scene from someone else's. Review- A very fun novel and a good start to a series. Scarlett is from our world, she remembers dying somehow, but now she's woken up as a secondary villain in a trashy romance she was reading. But she is not going to die like the original Scarlett. The writing is fun, the characters are fun and funny, Scarlett is the best. She is not going down, so she comes up with so many plans to get him to dump her, from pouring wine on him as a magic trick or creating a song to express how much she missed him. She is so silly but so focused on not dying. I also like the male lead, he is smart, not an asshole, and very amused by the whole situation. I'm look forward to reading the next volume and seeing what trouble Scarlett causes next.
I give this novel a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this novel from my local library.
This novel is the combination of a dark story and a transmigrated prankster with romance. If you like characters who have at least half a brain and like to make fun, then I highly recommend this book.
Charlemagne Kalior is our male protagonist, and he's a tall, dark, brooding one at that. Due to his circumstances, from a young age he has been forced to tyrannically cut down those in his way or otherwise survive while being targeted himself. Enough on him, the really interesting character in the novel is our transmigrated female main character - Scarlett Arman. The original Scarlett fell in love with Kalior at first sight, got in the way of Kalior's love with the female lead, then died (along with her family). As it goes with these stories, the new Scarlett isn't enthused about this and is determined to change her and her family's fates.
Scarlett's characterization is a fun and charming way of navigating the story. She's not without her own mysteries and enemies, but her viewpoint of the world and the situation she is in is very refreshing. She's accepted this is her life, plans to undercut the original female lead and steal some opportunities (especially for financial enrichment), and slowly drive everyone around her insane with her own insanity to escape the confines of the original story.
Needless to say, things don't always go as she plans.
This book is worth reading if you enjoy transmigrated female leads into the 'nobles and knights' sort of setting and would love to see a female lead who can come across as greedy, crazy, and as a bit of a prankster. Her internal narration is a delight - typically dry humor, where absurdity and introspection combine. There is also a significant focus on her family - the good and the bad - and her making bonds with them. It's always heartwarming to see true family building in these sorts of novels, and not just the romance.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. ❤️
This was fun - I was looking for something lighthearted, and I think this hit the jackpot. I borrowed the first volume from a friend, but I went ahead and bought 2 & 3 for myself.
quick&dirty summary: a young woman transmigrates into a book (show? her memories are described as "videos" so...) where the character she now inhabits was mercilessly killed off by the tyrant emperor, ending their engagement permanently -- dropped into the pre-novel world, can this woman convince the tyrant to dump her instead of kill her?
**STAR BREAKDOWN - WEBNOVEL EDITION** Cover: ★★★★★ Story: ★★★☆☆ Characters: ★★★☆☆ Enjoyment Level: ★★★★☆ Total Volumes in English: 4
Easy For a Beginner?: I think so - I always get a bit of whiplash when the original character is stated to be Korean but the setting they transmigrate into is so European, but other than that, this first volume was very approachable. I think the downside is the organization of the translation - it's formatted a bit disjointedly - sometimes there are paragraph/page breaks when the POV shifts and sometimes they're just stitched on to the end of a segment that belonged to a different character.
Bonus?: apparently there's a comic?

this is a review for the manhwa, the one for the light novel will be added later below.
Manhwa: 2/5 stars I started reading it because of the art style but the story made a good first impression, eventho some moments were so cringe. Intentionally I guess, but even then it was hard to read. Something I have to criticize about the art tho is that Scarlett's dresses look so tacky and weird. The fashion for the male characters is stunning but for some reason, I didn't like a single one of Scarlett's outfits. Now to the real issues: the pacing of the webcomic was so off. I feel like webtoon wasn't happy with the numbers and rushed the artists towards the end. The first half of the story was super slow but the second half felt so rushed, nothing made sense anymore. First time that I read comments under a webtoons chapter where readers were genuinely confused what just happened story wise. Some chapters felt like an exposition dump, the next one would add nothing to the story. The quality of story telling was not consistent at all.
Just finished reading this manhwa and honestly… I loved it 😭😂
It’s about a girl who suddenly wakes up inside a novel she once read but guess what? She’s now the *villainess* who’s destined to be killed by the male lead at the end 😭 Let’s just say, watching her try to avoid her tragic fate is both hilarious and dramatic 😂🩷
Rating: 4.5/5
The art is beautiful and realistic i could really feel the emotions of the characters. Even the reaction words were so well-done, they helped me imagine their expressions clearly.
Any flaws?
Yeah, honestly the pacing got a bit rushed in the last 20 chapters. I felt like a lot of important details were skipped too fast. The world-building wasn’t super clear either i wish there were more explanations so i could fully understand what the problem was and how everything worked.
But overall, it was still a great read 🩷
Spice level: 0.1/5
There are only two very quick scenes, so I’d say it’s mostly clean
Who would enjoy this? Anyone who loves fantasy + reincarnation stories
This was fun, although it takes a while to start liking the characters.
This is my 3rd Editio license read. Can't help but compare it to the others. So far this is my least liked. The concept in itself is good and simple (transmigrator wants to avoid her dead flag, so tries to get her marriage cancelled by acting crazy), but it reads as if the author word-vomit her story and didn't bother with editing. There were several scenes changes that felt rushed, and important moments that got swept under the carpet so quickly (when the story about the Rashahels got cut by the sudden appearance of the little boy, like that obviously is important but was so vaguely described I had to reread like 3 times to make sure I didn't skip a paragraph) and that was consistent throughout the story so I don't think it has anything to do with the translator. Hopefully in the next volumes one could see the writing getting better.
I can’t tell if this is a problem with translation or the writing itself, but I’m leaning towards the writing. The author doesn’t make enough of an effort to clearly identify who is speaking/thinking, or what they are referring to. This feels like it was written by a student who isn’t very experienced yet. More and more, I’m getting the impression that young authors are writing their stories online and then roughly stuffing them into books when they catch the attention of a publisher. Said publishers don’t appear to care overly much about the quality of the writing, since it’s already been shown to capture people’s attention. *sigh* I can’t deride them too much though, since I’m also culpable here. I’m intrigued enough with this story to read the next volume, even though the gaps in the writing style annoy me.
Ten Ways to get Dumped by a Tyrant is Book 1 in a new fantasy series by Gwijio Seo. The title was so fun that I was hoping the book would be fun… it was FUN! Kalior knew she was having a bad day when she died as a human and woke up in the book she was reading. Adding to this horror was the knowledge that she was now a minor character in the story, but, Scarlett Arman was murdered by her fiance in the story. Unfortunately, her fiance was the tyrant Charlemagne. Kalior must try to get out of the engagement and stay alive. I laughed so hard at her antics and can't wait to see what happens in book 2. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if a 21st century person transmigrated into their favorite novel but as a villain, then this book is for you.
4.5⭐️ for pure entertainment value. Volume 1 cuts off quite abruptly but that’s to be expected with most light novels. FL was so entertaining and her internal monologues were so funny I caught myself grinning and laughing out loud several times. I love how each attempt to get the emperor to break up with her gets more and more unhinged and he is just so undeterred by it all. Some of her attempts are so outrageous that I got second hand embarrassment. 😆
I am a fan of isekai manhwa/manhua, so this trope was quite familiar to me. Compared to translated manhwa, which could honestly sound weird, it was a relief to read a relatively well written text, though it still would need some work. I like the heroine and the setup, though it is still pretty simplified compared to regular fantasy. I think this book would appeal to actual fans who are used to this kind of genre. So I would recommend this book with some reservations. I have received this book for free and leave this review voluntarily
2.5 stars Not a bad story, not the best I've read, not the worst. I might look into the second book I might not. Depends on my mood I guess. The characters were okay and this was a quick read. My only issue would be the frequent ending of chapters with lines about the future or about the surrounding characters moods. For example. Little did I/He know the servants were starting to hate him, next month he'll be fighting to protect her, yada yada. I know stuff is happening I don't need it spelled out for me. Recommended? Eh Buy/Borrow? Borrow
looool, guess who somehow missed the 'volume 1' on the title and was hella confused at the non-ending of this book
i need more standalone light novels translated, a girl can't be investing in series all the time
anyways the whole drive off the duke by acting loco plan is...cute? i kind of want her to lean into it more tbh, as scarlett herself noticed, her level of chaos is simply not high enough to stand out given the surrounding cast
top marks for the cover art btw, i absolutely did get pulled into trying this out because it's so pretty
Ten Ways to Get Dumped by a Tyrant is a fun, fast paced light novel with an interesting plot.
Scarlett's embarrassing antic were amusing (the second-hand embarrassment cringe is real, let's be honest), but do all those attempts work in her favor? No. The opposite, really.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending (it just cuts off so randomly, but it is a light novel--so more volumes to come).
The start of this story was so confusing, I felt like I'd accidentally started a few chapters in.
The overall premise of the story was quite interesting but I don't think the translation did it justice. There were some POV changes but it was hard to tell who was who, and we weren't always told a characters name but then suddenly they'd have a name which was quite confusing.
Fun isekai romance with a great cast of characters. There were several errors in the writing that caused confusion while reading, but I suspect were related to language translation more than anything else, and were fairly easy to read past with a little effort. Unfortunately - and maybe this was just my copy, but - the story ended without resolution! Did not appreciate that! But I do want to find out what happens in the next light novel...
Y’all I’ll be honest. This is not profound stuff. It’s not even all that original. There’s even some problems with the flow of the story making it hard to follow along sometimes. However, I don’t think I have laughed harder in a very long time. When she whips out the big guns near the end…. I had to stop reading because I was laughing too hard. Her antics are absolutely hilarious, so I recommend.
Excellent story and characters, needs the tender mercies of an editor though
I have decided to stop deducting stars for poor editing, although admittedly, the poor editing made the story a little harder to follow (missing punctuation, unattributed speech, difficult to follow shifts in perspective) but I still enjoyed it supremely! I think the sequel is already out so I will definitely be buying it and reading it right away! I laughed out loud so much while reading this!
I have to say that this book is pretty hilarious. You're starting to learn plot points and, like your average isekai, there doesn't seem to be a lot of risk. I do love the carefree romance and the switching between the two main characters point of view. One of my favorite things about this book is that (and this maybe just the translation) it has a TON of fun with itself. I'm looking forward to knowing more about this world and why its not like the novel and all the hints that we are getting.
I read some of the web comic either a few months ago or last year and I thought it was funny and enjoyed what was out so far.I ended up laughing more when reading this novel. I'm definitely buying and reading the rest of this series soon (vol. 2-4).
I read the webtoons version, but I can't find it on here so I'm just going to use the light novel. the webtoons version was good at first . . . but then it just started going at a million miles per hour and somehow the boss fight was done in 2 seconds. it has so much potential, but the webtoons boss didn't like the confusing story I guess. So they just ended it 🤷♀️
