Brittany Putzer is an award winning author constantly turning to books to escape her dull suburban existence. She can be found most days, exploring new coffee houses and bookstores to pass the time. She craves caramel macchiatos, pumpkin spice goodies, and tall, dark, and fictional men (preferably in gray sweatpants). When she’s writing, her scribblings are dictated by her character’s persistent opinions and generous hearts (most of them anyway).
If she’s not writing, she’s soaring through the pages of other fictional worlds. Because of this, she’s also a lady of the night court, a scribe with an alpha shadow daddy (she’s afraid of heights so the other quadrant wasn’t an option), and a mafia princess with a touch her and die king. Additionally, Brittany loves the excitement of book conventions, both as a writer and a reader, where she loves to build everlasting friendships and eat tons of nachos and margaritas.

The dark side of every monarchy. I love love the dark side. I am so off Team Ryan and still only one Team Ann. She needs to find out about these rebels, will her prince pull her out of this spiral, or will she spin out of control. There are so many lives intertwined with the royals. Twist and turns worthy of real life monarchy fans. My heart bleeds for Ann and the Queen. They are both still dealing with losses in their lives. There dark history really takes this Cinderella story over just enough to make you want to know more. I have no idea how Brittany Putzer will tie all the ends up in the next book, but I am dancing around already to find out. BRAVO on keeping me on my toes.

Split Feather is the fourth book in the Feathered Dreams series by Putzer. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, especially after the dramatic ending in Molting, but the pacing and the questions left unanswered kept me turning the pages.

Even though I had a hard time putting the book down, I did have some concerns regarding the content. I always admired how Ann stayed true to herself in the previous books. During this point in her journey though, I felt she was letting herself be manipulated by everyone around her instead of taking a stand for what she really needs for the situation she is now in (I don’t want to give away too much because, y’know, spoilers). There are also a lot of love interests, and Ann falls for almost any guy that is momentarily nice to her. This could potentially send the wrong message to any young readers.

This series is also marketed as a YA clean-romance. In the previous books, I always felt like that was true, but this book pushed that boundary (maybe even crossed it). There was a sexual assault scene (it wasn’t graphic but it was still there) and also a scene that was too close to comfort regarding a child. We also got chapters from other POVs at the end of the book, which I was looking forward to reading, but the themes within these chapters didn’t quite set well with me for a YA book (grooming, abuse, and a lot of sexual behavior). Maybe having trigger/content warnings could help with this.

Even with my criticisms, if you’ve read the other books in this series you’ll want to read this one. The other POVs give us a lot of answers and really build up the suspense of what may be really happening within the palace walls. I am very curious to learn how Ann’s journey will end in the next (the last) book of this series.

Split Feather by Brittany Putzer:
(Book 4 of Feathered Dreams)

I love that Ann opened up to Karen about what happened between her and Ryan, but I also love how protective Karen is of Ann. I don't like how Ryan is treating Ann. Oh my gosh! Christian telling Ann he wants to give up being king and be with her! Gosh!! Ryan is being such a jerk! The hurt Ann is going through due to Ryan's words... Holy crap poor Ann. What!?!?! Dan!?! Okay wow! Jeremy and Mary!?! Little May is so adorable and sweet. Jeremy kissed Ann!? I like that Sally opened up to Ann and told her a bit about her mom. I also like that Jeremy is opening up slightly.  No no no the way Ann found out about Christian! How unfair! But man that budding relationship with Jeremy and Ann feels so right! Even after she saved him and said that stuff to her he still had to go and say something about the baby... I'm glad Jeremy and Ann talked. But man how I agree with Ann when it comes to trust!! I appreciate how Tammy talked to Ann. Oh wow reading the others POVs fir The Black Rose Beginnings was interesting!

A fast-paced, easy read that keeps you on your toes. This book took the Feathered Dreams story in a new direction that I was totally not expecting. That's what I love most about this series; just when I think I know where the story is going, a new twist shakes things up! And this book has just the right amount of heat. Things get spicy, but nothing explicit. Can't wait to see where the story goes next.

Such an amazing series

Book 4 of this series takes you on one heck of a ride. I can't say much without giving spoilers. But let me just say Brittany keeps you on your toes, and you never know what's going to happen on the next page. I laughed, i cried and I can't wait for book 5!!!
