Celia Mullen has a secret. One she’d kept from Kyle Dulanay since the day she’d broken his heart eight years ago with heinous lies. Now he’s back and it’s time to tell the truth. Even if that truth means she might lose her daughter.
Kyle never got over Celia. He’d tried. Oh did he try. So running into her at a friend’s wedding was a shock. Along with how possessive he felt watching her dance with another man. Not on his watch. Then she drops a bomb. One that should make him hate her. Only, hating Celia was almost impossible. She might have broken his heart and lied to him, but he wasn’t sure that was enough to drown out the love that still lived inside him.
This is the first book in the Ground Rules series. This is my first read by this author. This is a second chance romance story which flowed nicely and was easy to read. This was Kyle's and Celia's story who were in a teenage relationship and they have an unexpected meeting 8yrs later with a secret that could destroy them.
Walk Off is the first book wonderful Ground Rule series. This is a beautiful second chance romance story. I am a fan of Bree’s storytelling and the ease in which she comes up with amazing yet complex characters. This book is well written and is emotional and intense at times. The story flows nicely and making it a quick and easy read. The stories will keep you on your toes to see how things go and by the time you have finished you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to see what Bree comes up with next. This is Celia and Kyle’s story. They share a past one full of lies and pain. Now, after eight years both are back in in the same place. Celia has been keeping secrets now sharing those secrets could cost her the man she has always loved. Kyle still loves her, but can he forgive the one secret that blows him away.
This was a good novel Although not the easiest to read. At times, I found the pace much too slow to the point of boring. I loved both characters' great network of friends.
Absolutely loved this book and the ending was amazing! I won't give it away to much but when it came to the time I said out loud aww as I felt like I was in the story with the characters. Definitely a great author and one I'm sure I'll read more books from in the future!
Am happy Kyle didn’t give up on Celia, though I didn’t like what she did and the why. Always saying ‘oh I don’t want to derail his/her plans’. I just wish people will stop playing God. At least give him a fighting chance.
The premise is good, but the drama in their heads was excessively superlative. The writing style is too immature for me. This is more YA than the characters' nearly 30 years age. All that was on top of word issues that just shouldn't have been.
I got this as a freebie and since I like the secret baby and second chance tropes, I figured it would be right up my alley. I ended up hate reading it (speaking of, the word "hate" makes 72 appearances in this book, if anyone is curious).
The idea had potential but it was poorly executed. The writing was repetitive, with lots of telling rather than showing. We see things like:
"She shivered, which would be fine if it was cold in the restaurant. But it wasn’t. In fact, it was so warm, that only moments before, she’d removed her sweater, commenting on the heat. The shiver was because she wanted him."
I didn't need that full explanation. I gathered why she shivered from the context. I don't need an author spoon feeding me information. This happened constantly and it was off-putting. There was also a lot of back and forth over everywhere Kyle hated Celia just a little, a lot, not at all. It was exhausting. Celia starts out saying she'd never tell him, then maybe eventually, then admitting she never would have. Frankly, she was irredeemable to me and the author never convinced me of why Kyle forgave her.
The whole thing takes place in a two week time and it's simply unrealistic that they went from not having seen each other in eight years to being madly in love. I felt no chemistry or real love between these two characters. The side characters were not interesting either. The dialogue was stilted and often unrealistic. "...Ruby would be more apt to force the issue of us being a couple.” Who says stuff like that in casual conversation with a friend? It's weird.
Everyone makes excuses for everyone and blames everyone else for their poor decisions. Sorry, but at no point am I convinced that Celia's shitty mom is a good reason for her making decisions for Kyle. And Ruby's excuse of hating athletes because she thought Kyle was shitty was also pure crap. Give. Me. A. Break.
I didn't like anything about this book except maybe Kyle, who was a victim here and even he was sort of a doormat.
Celia is trying to live her life, having a great job and a beautiful daughter but there has always been the secret which has burnt a hole in her heart for years, until at her friend’s wedding her whole world caves in and she is eye to eye with man she loved and gave up for him to follow his career in baseball.
Kyle is excited to see his best friend get married, friends from college he will always be there for Benji but as his flight was delayed, he missed the ceremony but arrives just in time to see a ghost from his past, the woman he has always loved but lost her when he wanted to pursue his career. Can he put the hurt aside and see if there is anything there again or has, she moved on with her life.
As they start to see each other it is becoming difficult to keep the secret of the past, will Kyle forgive Celia for the betrayal, or will Kyle understand why she kept it from him for so long.
I really enjoyed this book and the way the author weaved the story with such ease and brilliance that you feel your invested in these characters from the first word. I loved Celia’s character and the understanding that she let the person she loved go because she knew he would give everything up for her if her discover her secret was heart-breaking and pure selfishness but also suffered eternal gut of not letting her daughter have a relationship with her father.
The relationship between the main characters was brilliant and the chemistry rose off the page with each word, with the interaction of the secondary characters making this a face paced, can’t put down read. This is not the first book I have read by this author and will definitely will not be the last.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The book was full of everything I love in a book…plenty of heart, feelings and second chance. Jasmine is an adorable smart little girl who loves her mom and never knew her dad. Celia is a beautiful girl who broke Kyle’s heart about 8 years ago when she broke up with him and told him she didn’t love him. Not only was Kyle heartbroken but so was she. Kyle was able to move on and have other relationships but he always thought back to Celia and never stopped loving her. Imagine their surprise when they run into eachother at a friends wedding. Both characters have had heartbreak growing up from family members and still carry that baggage. What will happen when Celia finally tells Kyle the truth….why she broke up with him and didn’t give him the chance to choose what he wanted for his future. Will he be able to forgive Celia for what she did / didn’t do all those years ago? This book was definitely a 5 star read. I loved all the characters and cannot wait to read the next book and see what the author has in store for Zara. Grab your copy of this book and you won’t be able to Put it down.
Walk Off is Book One in the Ground Rules series. It is a second chance romance story that centers around the characters of Celia and Kyle. Celia broke Kyle’s heart eight years ago but he has never gotten over her. When he sees her at the wedding of a friend all the memories come flooding back. He still loves her and even though she broke his heart his feelings for her have not changed. Celia still loves Kyle, but she lied to him years ago and has been hiding a secret from him ever since that could cause Kyle to hate her forever. Can Celia and Kyle get past the hurt, secrets, and lies and get a second chance at love? This is a beautifully written story with wonderful characters whose lives were easy to become invested in. You could not help but root for them to work through the hurt from their painful past and get a fresh new start together. Celia’s decision was clearly a gut-wrenching one to make for Kyle to have a chance at a future. The chemistry between them is undeniable and hard for either of them to deny. This book was full of raw emotions, love, loss, secrets, lies, betrayal, angst, drama, chemistry, passion, and second chances.
This is the first book in the Ground Rule Series and I absolutely loved it. This is a second chance romance that is well written with great characters. Celia and Kyle share a past together. This past is filled with lies, passion, half truths and hurt. When Celia broke up with Kyle 8 years ago she broke his heart, but truthfully she also broke her own. They both moved on but yet they still found they had a special place in their hearts for each other. They run into each other at a mutual friends wedding and they begin to rekindle their feelings for one another. Kyle is a forgiving man. But 8 years ago Celia chose his future for him. I truly loved reading this story that was filled with characters with so much baggage and pain. I definitely found myself rooting for them. I didn’t want to put this book down and found myself staying up really late to finish it. I love that it is a series because I know that there is more fantastic characters and great writing in my future. Definitely pick this one up for a fun read.
I love sports romance books and this book was definitely hard to put down....I LOVED this story and I totally devoured every page. This story has everything that I love in a romance....second chances, emotions running high, endearing moments, hot spicy moments and secrets that you can live to regret.
Celia and Kyle had a summer love that was to last a lifetime years ago, but when circumstances change the course of their life path, it only ended up in heartbreak and things that are said that are unimaginable and hurtful. Years later, both Celia and Kyle reconnect at a mutual friends wedding... lots of initial emotions with hot and heavy moments lead to the spark that Celia and Kyle always had for each other....but what happens when Celia needs to come to terms with telling Kyle the truth on a secret that she has hidden for the past 8 years? Will Kyle be able to move past the hurt and secrets that Celia has?
This was a fantastic book and I already looking forward to the next book in this series. Highly recommended read!
When she was 18, Celia Mullen fell in love with Kyle Dulanay, and just as he was being called up to play major league baseball, Celia found out she was pregnant. To protect his ability to live his dream, Celia broke off their relationship, and broke Kyle’s heart. Nearly 8 years later, Kyle is invited to a wedding that Celia, and their daughter Jasmine, are a part of. Kyle is angry, and devastated, to learn that he has a daughter that he knew nothing of and missed out on so much with. Celia feels guilty and knows that she made a mistake, but at the time felt like she was doing the best thing for Kyle, by allowing him to live his dream and not have to make a choice. Kyle now wants to get to know his daughter, and after the anger dissipates, he realizes that he still loves Celia and wants both of them in his life. This is a great start to this series, and I cannot wait to read the rest of them as they come out! There is some strong language, and plenty of steamy scenes, with a guaranteed happily ever after.
As soon as I read about this book, I was immediately drawn to it. As a single mother, you make many sacrifices whether it involves your family, children, other loved ones, career, you name it. But life without your child leaves one vacant. In the beginning, the reader gets to see the true nature of Celia as she prepares for one of her friend’s weddings and manages the bridesmaid's duties and handles her daughter as well. Unexpectedly she bumps into someone at the wedding, her ex, Kyle, who she broke his heart as he left to play baseball. At the time, Celia managed to keep quiet that when she left Kyle, she ended up being pregnant. As Kyle sees for the first time in a long time, all his feelings come bursting through. Although he has tried moving on, he hasn’t been successful and doing so. Now Celia is faced with telling the truth and seeing how things end up. The chemistry between these characters are vividly depicted by the author and you can feel their connection. This read was very engulfing and I cannot wait to read more!
Walk Off is book one in the Ground Rule series. I have always been super involved in sports growing up and seeing that this was a feel good romance but also involved a sports theme, in Walk Off it was mainly centered around a baseball player, only added to my interest. Celia and Kyle are the female and male character but there are a lot of side characters too. Celia broke Kyles heart many years ago but as fate would have it they show up to the same wedding of friends where they are reunited and their love is rekindled. I thought this was a great book but there were a few moments where I thought Celia was pushing against everything to hard or things were a little immature but I also felt like those parts added to the story and helped us understand why Celia and Kyle are the way they are because of their past and trauma they are both a little emotionally stunted. Their friends were so supportive but also gave them space to come to terms with their own feelings. This all came together to make a great read that I really enjoyed. I look forward to reading the others in the series.
This book was an amazing read with a lot of heartfelt moments. Bree does an amazing job of bringing up real-world problems in this book.
Celia is a woman who is built a family in a town with her friends and her sister. When she was younger she made a major mistake and let someone go when she should have been honest. She lived eight years knowing that she lied to the one person who meant the world to her.
Kyle is a man with a job that now has a lot of press and gets him noticed everywhere he goes. When he accepts an invitation from a friend to come to an event he did not go expecting to see the woman who stole and broke his heart. He spent years trying to move on and forget her but who can forget the person that has their heart?
What happens when the truth comes out? Can you forgive someone for lying to you and using the most hateful words to get you to leave? Was it really love or was it just first love?
Read this book to find out what happens with Kyle and Celia. Will they be able to reconcile?
This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up by her. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. I know that I am in for a romance roller coaster that I don’t want to get off. This book is no different. This is the first book in this series and what a great start it is. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I found this book to be well written and hard to put down. A story where the characters pull you into their world from the start. A story where secrets, second chances and fate have something in store for these two characters that you won’t see coming. They are strong, connectable characters that I had no problem picturing myself in their world. This is a fast paced story where the characters growth and chemistry made the story easy to read. I really enjoyed this book and you don’t want to miss this one. I highly recommend this book and this author.
Walk Off is the first book in the Ground Rule Series by Bree Kraemer. Gah!! I love Bree Kraemer’s stories so much!! She always manages to pack so much heart, soul, and emotion into her book-s and her characters are just sublime. This second chance contemporary romance pulled me in right from the beginning and had me completely invested in the characters and their story. I couldn’t put it down and devoured it all in one sitting. A wedding is the last place Kyle expected to see Celia. Even after eight years, everything comes rushing back. What happens when secrets are revealed? With plenty of sizzle, secrets, lies, heartache, pain, unresolved emotions, drama, angst, chemistry, forgiveness, and hope- Kyle and Celia’s story had me burning the midnight oil so I wouldn’t go to sleep without knowing how things played out in the end. Can’t wait to continue this fantastic new series! Happy reading.
Celia is living a good life with her daughter. She has a good job and great friends to make her life run a bit smoother. The last person she expects to run into is someone she let go of a long time ago. There is a huge secret she had kept from him and it looks like the time has come to let everything out. Kyle is living his dream life playing a sport that he loves, but he is missing out on sharing it with the one that he loves. Fate steps in and puts her back in his path at a mutual friends wedding. Will they pick up where they left off or will Celia's secret tear them apart forever? This is a feel good second chance romance. You are definitely rooting for the couple to work things out and end up together. This is the first book I have read by this author and really enjoyed her writing style. She does a great job of bringing out the emotions of the characters and making you feel what they feel. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.
Walk Off is an adorable second chance romance between Celia and Kyle. Celia broke Kyle’s heart 8 years ago to protect his future by telling him hurtful lies. They run into each other at a wedding, neither of them expecting it. Celia decides to come clean about the lies she told and uncovered one LARGE secret. They spent the last 8 years trying to get over one another but they couldn’t do it. Back in each other’s orbit, the steam and passion com back like it was yesterday. Kyle should hate Celia but even after all this time his love for her still out weighs everything else. Overall this was a good story, the characters at points were a tad annoying, but overall wasn’t that bad. The big secret was hard for me to believe that someone would forgive so easily for, but that is a me thing, not a everyone thing.
I'm a sucker for a good second chance romance...and this one was pretty good.
Celia and Kyle run into each other at a friend's wedding and the 8 years that they have spent trying to get over each other melts away. Their love and attraction is felt off the pages. But, when Celia reveals a secret that she has hidden since they went their separate ways, their reunion might be short lived. Can Kyle move past a secret like this? And can he forgive her for the choice she made (without him) all those years ago?
I enjoyed these characters. There were times when I wanted to bop each of them on the head...but overall they were good. This was a pretty quick read filled with the best parts of a second chance romance...deceit, surprises, and chemistry. Overall, a good book. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
This is a romance of a different kind. Celia has a young daughter and her father Kyle has no clue. Knowing time was running out Celia had to come clean. Telling Kyle will be the hardest thing she has ever had to face. Next to breaking up with him. But she had her reasons and I understand them all too well. Kyle is a baseball player who has lost his first and only love. Eight years later both Kyle and Celia are face to face for the first time. Celia and Kyle may love each other in their hearts, but will Celia's secret separate them? What a strong independent female character Celia is. Kyle too is so strong in his convictions. This author has brought romance out in this story. Her wording is enough to keep you reading. I was caught up in this story before I ended the first chapter. I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in this series.
I’m a sucker for a good sports romance, and this author didn’t let me down. Walk Off was everything I expected and then some.? The beginning of a new series that leaves the reader wanting more. Celia and Kyle have been through the ups and downs of heartbreak. What happens when 8 years pass and all those feelings come rushing back? The way the author navigated the narrative of the story is beautiful. Are there ups and downs? Sure. Is there character growth? Absolutely. It also makes me feel. I can relate to why Celia made the decision she did, I’ve been there. So another thing this author did was get me to reflect on what I read as well as my own life. In ways I never expected going into this book. I can’t wait for the next books in this series. Time to go look them up and some other books by this author. An author who’s working their way on my favorites list.
i dnf’d this book. it was honestly like the epitome of old wattpad. they would have sex at the randomest times. literally like 5 mins after they saw each other again for the first time in 7 years, in her sisters pool house while they were having an argument, and basically a one night stand just cuz he was horny. like whaaaa
i didn’t really read past that.
and there’s so many characters. there’s like 4-5 girls who each have a partner and it was kinda hard to keep track. and ik it’s a pretty short book but it was wayyyyy too fast for me.
also it’s in third person but like each chapter has one of the main characters name on it idk it lowkey confusing. i also feel like we don’t actually see a lot of the kid, which i feel should be more essential, especially in this type of storyline.
This was a good start to a new series! Fast paced but we get a lot of needed info of backstory on both main characters without it feeling rushed or that anything is left out either. I love a good second chance romance and this has a twist to it also that is one I like also. Celia has a great support system in her sister and best friends and when life decides to throw a huge curve ball her way she's going to need them more than ever. I did enjoy these 2, Kyle and Celia, they had great chemistry but they just went from 0-100 in a couple pages and while I know it is fiction it was super quick for me (thats just me though)
Great story and cannot wait to read more of this great group of people.
I have read a few books from this author and she always blows my mind with her writing style. This is the first book of her new series ground rule and let me tell you I’m hooked. You will fall in love with these characters right away. I could not put this book until the end. I can’t wait to see who she is going to write about next.
Celia has a huge secret she has been keeping for years. She is now ready to tell it to the man she once loved. Celia knows the beautiful Kyle is back in town but she is afraid she might lose her world in the process. She sees him and everything goes out the window and old feelings come back once again. Will this secret shatter what they had or will it make them stronger?
Walk off by Bree Kraemer is a great second chance romance that leaves you wanting more.
Kyle and Celia have a common history. Lies, passion, half-truths, and hurt abound in this past. Kyle's heart was broken when Celia dumped him eight years ago, but she also broke her own, in all honesty. Although they both moved on, they discovered that they still had a special place in their hearts for one another. They reignite their emotions for one another when they run into one another at the wedding of a mutual acquaintance. Kyle is a gracious person. But eight years ago, Celia made that decision for him.
Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. The story really brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down.
