He thought he would get away with it. He thought I was gone for good. But I'm back and deader than ever. I have a choice to make. Stay dead and become a part of the Carnival of Bones, haunting the swamps of the Bayou for an eternity...or choose life and return to the man I thought loved me. I almost wanted to choose life if only to see the look on Austin's face. It would be an easy choice if it wasn't for the two entities that ruled this place...this limbo. Two men with a darkness inside of them that calls to me. One, a dark god, and the other, a suave trickster.
I spend 95% of my life huddled in my little office, at my little desk, vividly hallucinating about characters and scenarios that don't exist. Then I write it all down for you to enjoy!
Great story! I always love me a good comeuppance!! This is a dark, twisted romance. Check your triggers!
Reason for the ratings: However, there were a couple variations in the story between book 1-2. I got confused... one book said her "fiance" and the next book called him her "husband'? And the injury changed between books.. ?? That was strange to me. There were also multiple grammar/spelling errors.
I really wanted to like this duet. I loved the concept of it. I feel like it should not have been broken into parts because neither is very long. The world building in both is lackluster at best. This part of the duet has zero world building. Our FMC is super whiney. They talk a lot about her getting revenge and it leads up to an anti-climatic event. The one MMC gets favored and I would like to have seen our second MMC get more love than he did. I found the spice to be like the book and was disappointing.
It's good but I like the first one more. Maybe because there is more mystery in it and the second one is just predictable.
Characters personality slightly changes? Not that much but I liked the book one Bael, for Theodore is the book two. FMC herself pretty much the same.
Still well written and magical, just more smut in it. Second one is more spicier. I don't think this book is dark either, and can be finished in one sitting.
Title: Carousel of Souls (Book 2) Author: Penn Cassidy Series: Carnival of Bones Duet Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ Spice: 🌶🌶
When I first stumbled upon Carnival of Bones a few months ago, I became completely captivated by Moria and how she ended up at a random Carnival in the middle of nowhere without any explanation. So of course I had to read Carousel of Souls to finish Moira's story.
Moira ends up at the Carnival of Bones one night in a white dress covered in blood and no memory of what happened before she awoke in the middle of nowhere. She meets Theodore and Bael who work together to run the Carnival. Moira ends up having to choose whether to stay with Theo and Bael or go back home. She must decide what life she wants and who she wants to spend it with because once she makes that decision, it can't be undone!!!
I absolutely love this story and the characters within it. Theodore and Bael are so mysterious and sexy. I love that they feel so strongly for Moira and want to protect her. There's something about Moira that has brought these two men to their knees and they want nothing more than to love her for the rest of their lives. Now the spice in this duet between Moira and the guys are so hot. I think this duet has a little something in it for everyone; murder, voodoo, death, life, love, and hope. I think this is probably one of my top Penn Cassidy series I've read.
Just amazingly lovely. I adored Carnival of Bones and was so excited for Carousel of Souls. It was a great read and I am absolutely besotted by Theo and Bael. Moria was such a lovely female lead and I love the descriptions of this book.
However I thought it would have been a bit longer. After reading and loving the first book I was expecting to get some more details in this one about Met Kalfou's realm and the crossroads and even more scenes with Bael and Kalfou. I also was expecting more of Moria's interactions with the souls in his realm.
The ending had me wanting so much more and I really wished I got to see the potential this book had used to the max. These few points are the only reason I rated this 3 stars.
I thought the premise of this story had a lot of potential and was set up leaving the reader very intrigued for the most of book one. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me going but for some reason I never felt an arc of the plot that had things feeling a little anticlimactic. I wanted a little more development between the ménage romantically as well. It sort of suddenly just happened but not so much in an insta-love type of way. The spice we did get I though was done very well and the conclusion of the story felt nicely wrapped up! I think with things fleshed out a touch more outside of riddles could have helped.
Ok I loved this book! And while it does pick up right after the first book I just reread the first one and at the end it mentions that Moria would hate Theo because of a deal that was made between him and her grandma….. it’s never mentioned again so did the author just forget where she was going with that? And why did Moria ask her grandmother to meet her in three days? It never said. That with that said I did enjoy this duet and would love more.
Heat level: 5/5. What an ending to this duet! The ending was definitely worth the wait. I devoured this book so fast! Having Bael and Theodore forever?! Sign me up! I would've said yes SO quick LOL. The spice was ramped up in this one so be careful with those downstairs flood warnings. Her journey from the first book to that satisfying ending was insane. That ending made me giddy inside. Well done woman! Thank you for sticking with this duet and finishing it up for us.
Couldn’t get enough of Moria, Bael and Theodore! The chemistry between the three of them is 🔥 I really enjoyed this store. Very unique. I did find that at about halfway through the book the story seemed to drift a little bit. Other than that, I loved it and I would love to see more of this world!
This one was better than the first, in my opinion. The characters are more fleshed out and are comfortable with each other. There are quite a few spelling errors but I didn’t count that in my rating. Bael is one hot mfer 🥵🥰 I love his dynamic with Theo and Mori. This also wrapped up some loose ends and had a very satisfying conclusion!
I really loved the first book in this series, and I can say I was slightly disappointed by this book. First, there was the whole deal with the grandma that wasn't explained in this book, but it was a focal point in the first. I believe Theodore kept repeating that Mori was going to hate him for the deal he made with Mori's grandmother. But that never came up. I also felt like the two books didn't quite line up timeline-wise. This could be a me thing, but it felt like we didn't start where we left off.
Overall this book was enjoyable. I love the Voodou vibes, which made this a perfect spooky season read. The spice was nice but a bit underwhelming. In all honesty, this book felt a bit rushed. If you loved the first book, you will probably enjoy this book, but it was a bit underwhelming. I am happy with how it concluded.
Looking for a spooky season read? Look no further than The Carnival of Bones duet!
Carousel of Souls perfectly captures that haunting vibe of New Orleans voodoo magic. It's a ghostly tale of death and eerily romantic encounters in the afterlife. Moira, who's been through a traumatic experience, finds herself at a crossroads with some tough decisions to make. There's epic-level spice with soul usher Bael and crossroads manager Theodore.
The writing style flows so smoothly that you'll easily get lost in the story. The plot is intriguing with some darker elements (be sure to check TW), and the characters are all so distinct and alluring. However, it's worth noting a few plot inconsistencies regarding a deal Theo made with Moira's grandma at the end of the first book and Moira’s whispered message to her grandma to meet in three days, which unfortunately didn't come to fruition. Despite this, it's a sultry, sensual, spine-tingling supernatural adventure that's worth diving into for the voodoo magic and mysterious atmosphere it delivers.
