Moonlight Cove

Rate this book
When three lives unexpectedly intersect, magic happens in the moonlight.

Jamie didn’t knowingly step into the middle of a murder and become the prime suspect. When a man washes up on the beach and asks for help, Jamie can’t refuse. On the run and terrified, Jamie takes refuge in the woods behind a storybook cottage in a cove where moonlight dances on the water and through the trees at night.

Brenley Baker had no intention of spending her summer in Seaside, Oregon. But Mimi, her persuasive grandmother, coerces (also known as guilts) her into coming. Brenley has visions of sunburns, stinky fish, and her grandmother’s senile friends filling her days. What she discovers upon her arrival is a handsome policeman chasing after a killer through Moonlight Cove, the property that has been in her family for more than a hundred years.

Time and experience have left Seaside Police Captain Jake Adams more than a little jaded. Naiveté has no place in his life, until a chance circumstances brings a beguiling, shy woman into his world. She’s nothing like the females he’s dated, yet something about her leaves him so intrigued, he can hardly focus on the murder investigation that should be his top priority.

Will an alliance between Jake and Brenley as they fight sparks of attraction, race to catch a killer, and seek what is best for Jamie tie their hearts together?

Find out in Moonlight Cove, a sweet contemporary romance with a dash of mystery and a sprinkling of humor.

A double romance, runaway teen, dead body, with a bit of mystery happening in a seaside Oregon town. Told from five different viewpoints. I enjoyed getting to know characters, and the grandmother/granddaughter interactions were great. I could easily relate to Brenley and her introverted actions. I enjoyed both romances but do feel like they moved too quickly. The mystery aspect was fairly light, but we are aware of some of the answers, whereas other characters aren't. The setting was beautiful, and the way that the ladies embraced Jamie was great. It was a fun read that was much too short.

Jake Adams is a police captain for the small town of Seaside, Oregon. Brenley Baker is spending the summer with her grandmother at the family home, Moonlight Cove. A body on the beach and a runaway teenager bring the two together, sparking an instant attraction.

Moonlight Cove is the first book in the Love On The Beach series by Shanna Hatfield. Jake and Brenley, as well as Mimi and Clint's, stories are a lot of fun. Also, the author's descriptions of this real-life town make you long to be there.

I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review. I purchased a paperback edition as well.

Wow!
A homeless teen that the police think killed a man, not the usual beginning for a. Shanna Hatfield book.
Jamie is a homeless teen now living on the Oregon coast. While watching the ocean one night he sees an injured man at the water’s edge. The man gives him a small case before he collapses and tells him to hide it. Unfortunately, the man dies and the boy is suspected of his murder.
Jake is a captain in the police department. Brenley is in town with her grandmother for the summer.
While Jamie was escaping he hid the case in a flower bed which just happened to be in Brenley’s backyard. On her security camera she see him trying to find it and tells Jake.
Will Jake and Brenley find Jake? Will he be able to help solve the murder?

This book will make you smile. It is a sweet double romance but not a suspenseful story line. It is worth reading.

I loved the character of Brenley, I could relate to her the most, being an introvert myself and more of a homebody than a social butterfly. I liked that she was kind and sweet, caring and not afraid to do what was needed in order help others. Jaime was a great character as well that I just felt was someone who just needed someone to give her a helping hand to get her life back on track. Jake and Clint were both amazing kindhearted men who knew what they wanted and didn't hold back on their feeling for the women they loved. I loved the mystery that was interwoven through out and how all the characters were connected to each other. The ending was perfect and a great way to start a new series, one I can't wait to read. As always Shanna wrote another sweet romantic book that made me believe in love, hopes and dreams.

Loved this story. Brenley and Jake are great together. They think they want things one way but discover they both want the same thing. Love. Jamie wants a home but hasn't had one for a long time. When Brenley finds Jamie, she is sure that Jamie will be in her life for a long time, but Jamie is a runaway and may be sent away. Jamie finds a man who has washed up on the beach. The man hands something to Jamie and says, "Run!" Jamie does run and Jake gives chase thinking Jamie is a murderer. Brenley and Jake meet when Jake runs by her house after Jamie. It isn't quite love at first sight, but pretty close. The problem is, they don't know right away that it is love. They aren't looking for it. Brenley is just there for the summer, right?

Ms. Hatfield did it once again. She knocked this out of the ballpark. She is writing a different kind of romance this time with a body that washes up on the beach, and a person seen near the body taking something and running away fast. A cop who can’t keep up and somehow plants his face into a window of a cottage and scares the woman inside. Someone new he hasn’t seen before in this coastal town. This woman is going to help the cop with this mystery and what a mystery it is.
Intrigue, suspense and of course new friendships and new beginnings and everyone one wins except the bad guys when a whole bunch of people come together to catch, which almost doesn’t work out well for the good people. Whew, thankfully only one person gets a minor wound.
Then the cove that is owned by the woman who owns the cottage and her granddaughter share a night of love and romance with friends on the beach in the cove in a double wedding. Ahh what a rememberable night it was too. And the person running at the beginning is now known and placed into a forever family.
This is a must read and you will be surprised as finding old friends in this story, that is if you read the stories of Beach Brides Message in a Bottle, back a few years. Another of my favorite stories by Shanna.

Brenley is very introverted. She works from home and really doesn't have to get out much. Her grandmother, Mimi invites her to spend the summer with her at Moonlight Cove. Jamie is a runaway. She sees a man on the beach who has been stabbed. He tells her to take the box in his pocket and hide. So she does. Jake - the police chief - and Sloan - the fire chief - are jogging on the beach and see her running away. Jake gives chase, but loses her. He meets Brenley when he trips over a chair in the dark and crashes into the sliding glass door. He's a cop so she tells him she hasn't seen anyone. Someone is digging in their hard so Brenley has a camera that she is evaluating for her job. She and Mimi set it up to see what's digging. They see a person and call Jake. He comes over that night and catches Jamie. They work together to solve the murder. Jamie is a run away from foster care. They send her to live with Rose and Tanner. Several in the town look after her. Great small town book!

What is better than a sweet beach summer read full of romance, drama and intrigue? Not much! This story transported me from my dreary, cold world into a world that was quite different and was a great place to escape to.
After a sudden encounter Jake was unable to forget Bren even though the Police Chief was busy solving a murder mystery. Thankfully there were a few more, much nicer encounters that gave them the chance to spend time together. Can they solve the murder and work out what is digging up the garden together?
I loved this story and the way everyone has second chances, that friendship and love is just around the corner and available if you choose to embrace it. Definitely another great read!

Moonlight cove

Another book to love! A social butterfly grandma, widowed Mimi and introvert granddaughter, Brenley- such a sweet relationship. And what a joy to watch Mimi find a love interest again and Brenley being drawn out of her shell as she is introduced around Seaside in the midst of sudden and mysterious circumstances. Jamie caught in the middle of things out of control is also a bright spot and I loved watching the community come around and especially the special connections made with Brenley and with Jake who had also been in foster care.
The characters are well drawn as always and I want to hang out with them some more! My only complaint would be I would have like to spend more time in the book! I can’t wait for the next one!

For a kid who'd spent seventeen years landlocked in Idaho, the sight of the ocean was spectacular. Eyes the hue of polished sea glass focused on the brilliant array of colors speeding out across the sky like watercolors seeping from one shade into another. During the summer months magic happens in the moonlight. Moonlight Cove is a page turning mystery told through different characters perspective - Jamie the runaway teen, Jake the police officer, Brenley and her grandmother Mimi. An entertaining read with a breath taking setting, a murder, art, the foster care system and romance. Recipe for Starfish Cookies included.

I just finished moonlight Cove and couldn’t put it down. I am not a crime type story person. It took me three tries to start this book because I didn’t like the idea of a dead body. But once I got past that, I managed to read this book in two days, which is a record for me. There are two love stories in Moonlight Cove. One between Mimi and Clint, (It’s so nice to have an older couple Find love) and Jake and Brenley. I did enjoy having a bit of a mystery throughout the story and how they solved it. It was great to meet up with characters from the previous Seaside novel, Rose and Tanner. I look forward to the next book, Sunset Shore, in this series.

I love this story. It has everything you could want - mystery, intrigue, friendships, and romance. And all of this in the small town of Seaside, Oregon.

Jamie is a run-a-way from the foster care system. Mimi owns Moonlight Cove. Brenley, Mimi's granddaughter, has come to spend the summer with her. Jake is the police captain in Seaside. Clint is a widower fixing up a run-down house that his son bought.

These are the characters. Now, just read the book to see how they interact with each other. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

I received a free book, and this is my honest opinion.

Once I started reading Moonlight Cove I couldn’t put it down. I read it in one day and enjoyed every minute of it. Jaimie is very brave and has a maturity way beyond her years. Brenley is a very likable and warm heroine and Jake is the perfect hero. Brenley’s grandmother, her potential love interest and her friends help to round out the major characters. The murder that brings them all together is a true mystery and the path to justice is believable. I am looking forward to reading the next in this series.

Jake ❤️ Brenley 🏖 Clint ❤️ Mimi

Jamie. Alone. Homeless. Teenager. Witness. Murder. Run! Hide!
Mimi finally was able to convince her adult granddaughter Brenley to stay the summer with her in her beachside cottage in Seaside Oregon. Brenley arrived late in the evening after dark and was just getting inside the cottage when she was frightened by a face at her window.
Jake, Captain on the Seaside Police force had been chasing someone he thought was the murderer if a man on the beach.
This is the start of an exciting suspense/murder story. How can it lead to a beautiful romance?

This was a wonderful story with some suspense, romance and happiness. It involves a grumpy but kind hearted cop, a beautiful homebody who works from home and her grandmother. What starts as a long vacation turns into a mystery when an undercover cop is found dead on the beach. A homeless girl comes upon the dying man and he gives her something. She is on the run and hides out near a beach house with the grandmother and granddaughter. A handsome police officer and a widower befriend the ladies. Romances ensue and an orphaned girl is helped. Truly a beautiful story.

Moonlight Cove

Great story, Shanna. Yes a mixture of romance, suspence, mystey, and humor. Caught my attention at the beginning. Brenley was invited to spend the summer with Mimi, her grandmother at Moonlight Cove. But first night, there was a murder on the beach and Cpt Jake Adams, police officer meets Brenley and falls in love. So Jake was on mission to solve the murder and Brenley gets involved. Strong characters in the story and lots of romance. Thanks, Shanna, for writing this story.

I read Jake and Brenley’s story before I read Sloan’s. It didn’t even matter. Their love story was magical and I was never so happy to have a beachfront seat to see it all transpire. It was nice to know the fullest extent of Jaime’s background. I just fell for her all the more and hope she gets her own story. This author can sure make a romance feel like magic, because even if it’s a quick something, you have no trouble believing a love match can happen that quickly. When I can finish a book with a contented sigh, I feel the story is complete.

Brenley Baker comes to stay with her Grandmother Mimi for the summer in Seaside. When a man turns up injured on the beach a teenager finds him and finds themselves even more on the run than before. Officer Jake Adams is on the case of the man who they find on the beach and while chasing the suspect ends up meeting Brenley Baker. I absolutely love the story, the small town of Seaside just draws you in and makes you feel at home. This is a well written romance with wonderful characters.

Great Series

This is the first book in this series and I totally enjoyed and look forward to the next book. I loved Brenley and Jakes story. She's an introvert and thinks she'll never find love. He's a police captain and thinks that he can't have love and his career. But when these two meet everything changes. This book is full of suspense, intrigue and romance. A great read.

Don't Ever Give Up on Love

Jake and Sloan both had decided to become confirmed bachlors, but life and love threw a curve ball to them. Especially Jake, while doing his job inadvertently met up with Brendly. The two being pushed together through a murder case where a suspect ran through her yard while being chased by Jake. A beautiful love story that you cannot help but relate to the characters. Shanna has done it again.

Anything surrounding Jamie in this book was great. I wish there was more to this part of the story than the rest. Jamie's story seemed like a vehicle to add mystery to a so-so plot.

The killer part of the mystery and the romances were just meh.

Brenley and Jake love story didn’t have a chance to progress over enough time. Pulling her on his lap after knowing each other a few days was just eww…and dialog near the end was a bit eye-rolly.

I’m in the minority on this one.

This was a great story full of suspense and surprises. When a man washes up on the beach and dies, he turns out to be an undercover policeman. The police are looking for the young boy who was standing over him and then ran away. There are so many second chances at love, family, and new relationships. Shanna has such a way of drawing you into the story and making the characters real.
