I Lied for You is a mystery novella and the first of its series.
Zee David discovered her talent of writing at an early age. Her satisfaction is knowing that her work is read and loved. She loves writing, watching Korean dramas, and most of all, she loves her family.
Zee David's language background reflects in her work, which consists of both American and British English. She speaks four languages fluently. She is an animal lover, especially cats, and dogs
Reads a lot, though mostly listens to audiobooks. She leans toward the mystery genre.
I can’t tell you how many times I had to stop myself from looking down at the page to just know what’s coming next, just because I could not contain my curiosity! This kept me in its clutches until the very end. And very soon you will realise what a wonderful piece of work it is. It isn’t a run of the mill mystery but it is something outstanding.
This read felt like I was trying to navigate my way through a labyrinth and when I finally found the way, I was only stunned to see that it was in fact, a web all along. A web in which the author had spun the truth and the lies so beautifully and it all connected at the very end.
“The Rue flower: his symbol of indignation.” ~ As the author writes of this flower, she has made sure to deliver the true essence of it throughout the entire story. Did I sense some part of the ending? Yes. But did that make the surprise any less? Absolutely not! I believe that this book does justice to the reader so well. Things were built on and then slowly revealed. Not that slowly but still in a timed manner (spread across in a few chapters) and not all in a go.This left us guessing and asking questions. However, the big reveal at the end blew me away and left me asking so many questions. What a cliffhanger it was! All of the characters were built on so well and nothing was straightforward with them. The tension around their personalities was nearly tantalising and made me want to know more of their sides quickly!
Also, what needs to be mentioned is the charming style of writing. “Her pale skin is like the statue of the weeping lady with a veil. One I had read once was called The Weeping virgin! "~ Throughout the read, I couldn’t help but sigh at the mesmerising imagery built by the words. The use of words combined with the author’s imagination felt like the unforsaken combination of dark chocolate with cherries. The hints of sweet made the bitter taste even more delightful, leaving you gluttonous for more to come.
I must say, to anyone reading this, go ahead and grab this book. You won’t regret even a single word!
A chilling novella that will make you look around when you’re alone at night.
"You vowed to never shed another blood
Yet, you lied again"
Brie, a journalist and Anita, a detective, race to solve the murders of three young women that seem way too similar to one that has haunted them both for fifteen years. Witnesses, people from the past, mothers, sidekicks. Characters that make the story feel raw and suspenseful. I truly enjoyed “I Lied for You”, so much that it only took one sitting for me to read it. It succeeded on making me feel like I was a part of the story, as if I was inside the detective’s mind. It felt so vivid, that I found myself reaching for the light switch as the night set in. It’s real, it’s odd, it’s scary. Everything a mystery thriller should be.
“One of my teachers told me that I could make people do things, which is why I could make her do what she did. I granted her wish, and now she lives her life as I wish.”
The fact that it’s written on first person makes it feel real. We get to see reality from Brie’s, the detective’s and also the murderer’s point of view. Throughout the whole read, I was kept on my toes trying to figure out the truth, find out who the anonymous murderer is and what really is Brie’s truth. It was genuinely disturbing, and whenever I felt like I had solved the mystery, or at least like I was getting close to it, something new would come and twist the whole scheme for me. I felt clueless, scared, even as if my own thoughts were unreliable.
As I read, I couldn’t free myself from how scared I was. It is truly an odd story, with creepy and detailed narrations that helped me build suspicion on different characters since the very beginning. Be ready. It will have you holding your forehead in desperation as you try to uncover the truth.
Okay, I Lied For You by Zee David? That book got under my skin in the best kind of way. It’s sharp, moody, and emotional as hell—exactly the kind of mystery I love sinking into when I want something that feels personal, not just procedural.
Brie Owen isn’t your typical hardened, flawless heroine. She’s messy. Haunted. Real. I connected with her instantly—there’s something about a woman trying to outrun her past and rebuild her peace that just hits home for me. She left Denton Falls to protect herself, maybe even to breathe again, and yet… she gets pulled right back in when girls start turning up dead with the same chilling signature of a killer she thought was long gone.
What I really appreciated was that this story didn’t waste time. It’s a novella, so it moves fast, but somehow it still packed in that tension, that dread, and that gut-punch emotional weight. Every time Brie questioned what she thought she knew, I was right there with her, wondering what was real and who she could trust.
It’s dark without being hopeless, and mysterious without getting lost in unnecessary twists. Zee David’s writing makes you feel like you’re sitting in the backseat of Brie’s unraveling life, gripping the edges and whispering, “Don’t go back there,” while knowing she absolutely has to.
Quick mysteries but layered, with just the right mix of psychological weight and emotional grit, I Lied For You delivers. I can already tell this series is going to dig deep, and I’m so here for whatever Brie uncovers next.
These characters will consume you and keep you locked in their world. You will be sucked into the past and future as the protagonist, Brie, starts her journey to uncover the truth about a serial killer from on the loose and his connection to her past.
After a terrifying and life changing event Gabriella, a teenager living in Denton Falls moves to Calitain and changes her name to Brie Owens. Fifteen years later Brie is a detective/journalist but her past is still haunting her.
Suddenly in Calitain young girls have started getting murders and it had the same pattern and MO has her case in Calitain. She receives a letter that brings back painful memories and she begins to wonder if it's the same man.But how did he find her?
With the help of a coworker, she tries to find the truth about what happened that day in the woods and also unveil the killer.
I really don’t want to get into the story because that is not fair to the author or you. Read the book and enjoy the story for yourself. I will say that this book was fun to read. I love the suspense and mystery throughout the story. I love the originality and uniqueness of this story. There was nothing predictable in this book. I love the grittiness of the story and the twists and turns.
I enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries and thrillers.
A lie for you by Zee David is a mystery thriller in which two professionals, one a detective and the other a journalist, try to solve a crime. Brie Owen, a journalist troubled by her past, chose to leave Denton Falls her hometown with a lot of mystery that happened there for her. Detective Anita, her adversary, is attempting to solve the crime. This book's mystery components are fantastic. I had chills at the end of the book. Brie and Anita truly transformed the novel into a fantastic mystery thriller. One of the finest mystery thrillers I've ever read. If you're seeking for one of the exquisite thrillers, read this masterpiece.
The Killer She Knew is my first book by Zee David. The story surrounds Emma a ghostwriter who lives with her ill mother and her caretaker named Mia. The death of her sister has put a strain on Emma and their mother’s relationship. The story is told from several different characters. When I thought I had it figured out, the story changes. I enjoyed this book and the writing style of Zee David. I could relate to Emma trying to work through her own issues, that it made the book that more enjoyable.
What a great little novella. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Every time I thought I had everything figured out... I was wrong, and I am really good at that game! It's suspenseful and the back story is so fascinating. I really enjoyed reading. It's an awesome first book for a this series. I read some of it to my husband. He was mad cause he wanted me to wait for him, but I did not have the patience to wait for him to be around and in the mood this time! lol. And I'm happy I didn't wait. I can't wait for book 2! I need to find out more asap! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I quite enjoyed the different settings and time zones, but it was hard work to ascertain which of the main characters were narrating and giving their perspective at the start of each chapter. Part of that is probably because all of the characters spoke in the same "author's voice and language", so all sounded alike. Hope that helps for the rest of the series. Good story though with questions left hanging at the end which beg for book 2.
The story throws the reader into a past event, then brought into the present with no warning. The back and forth is jarring, but leads readers to the twist. As Book 1, I hope there is a follow-on to the story since there remain to be questions about what happened.
I received a free copy and am leaving a review voluntarily. Thank you to StoryOrigin and author.
Zee David does it again in this thriller novel, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed from the genre. The concept worked well overall and was engaged with what was going on. The characters had that element that I wanted and was engaged with the story going on.

Things weren't the same from book one and two, as parts should have been. Just a lot of stuff was off. I think this needs to be gone through again and fixed.

I had to question the line between fiction and reality many times over. I totally agree with Nina @Ninjasbooks. Mia’s POV came a bit out of the blue and I don't think it added anything to the story. I think this book had a lot of potential.
I Lied For You is twisty, emotionally intense, and vividly suspenseful. The POV jumps around a lot, which could make following along difficult if you're not focused. But other than that, this is a great read!!.

I listened to this story twice and the narrator used the same voice for all the characters so it was hard to keep them separated. I think after the second the time through I know who done it and all I can say is lies never are the answer and only lead to more wrongs and sadness. How did the final chapter happen!!!
The story was all over the place, and the ending did not make much sense in conjunction with previous character details. The premise was intriguing, but in execution I felt there were too many plot threads and characters for a novella so short.
The story of a crime reporter Brie, erstwhile know as Gabriella is a new unique addition of flavour in suspense mystery and drama literature.
This book; I LIED FOR YOU is well versed with its characters and their dialogues are appealing. The build-up and cover-up of the story is amazing.
What I enjoyed the most in reading this book was the detailed description of scenes and places along with minute details of characters make it overwhelmingly attractive to read it one sitting.
Keenly waiting for its next part...
