Lately, my life has been a big, fat, hairy midlife crisis. I could really go for a boring day or three.
Apparently, there’s no rest for the over-forty crowd.
Yes, I have fabulous friends.
Yes, I have a beautiful baby.
Yes, the ghosts are coming back home.
Yes, I’m in love with the Grim Reaper.
However, that sexy Demon has got some major ’splainin’ to do…like his possible involvement in the shocking kidnapping of my worst and most deadly enemy.
With a drag queen and an ice queen as my back up, we’re going to sashay away into the Darkness to find the truth and turn a wrong into a right.
Although, I’m learning fast that black and white are often clouded with of shades of gray.
Whatever. I’m putting on my rose colored glasses and going for it. I plan to live midlife in peace… not pieces.
Robyn writes because the people inside her head won’t leave her alone until she gives them life on paper. Her addictions include shoes (the expensive kind), Coke with extra ice in a styrofoam cup, and bejeweled reading glasses. A former professional actress, she now lives in the south with her family and too many animals to count. Writing gives her a chance to have a job where working in her P.J.’s is acceptable. As mentioned in an earlier review I think this particular storyline has run its course and should have wrapped up several books back. And yet I keep reading so kudos to Ms. Peterman.
One thing that did occur to me is that Daisy spends so much time stating how fabulous her friends are that I hardly get a chance to form my own opinion. Well, there is Zadkiel who doesn’t seem willing to go into that good night but he’s the exception.
I’ve barely started and am already being inundated with “fun facts” from Tim and the drag queens, which is just page filler and doesn’t add anything to the actual plot. Ditto for Tim and Candy swapping insults. This is book 9. I already have a pretty good handle on these characters' personalities.
There was practically zero progress made towards a solution in this book. The conundrum at the beginning was still there at the end. Yet another cliffhanger with the chance that it will be solved in book 10 (although I wouldn’t hold my breath)
10/18/23 - The sequel, “It’s a Hell of a Midlife Crisis” is released today. After some soul searching (not really) I’ve decided to pass. I still like the series about the soap opera queen so I haven’t given up on the author completely.
Daisy is back as she’s got a pickle of a problem. With a plan to catch Zadkeil. Hoping that catching him will allow Daisy and her family a little down time. However, right after the Angel of Mercy passes judgement, life hits the fan! Get ready for a giggle filled, cryptic journey.
The characters are absolutely endearing and just when I think I couldn’t love any characters more Peterman gives them another level of depth that has you rooting for them!
The four horseman have been an amazing addition to this ragtag group and I will forever associate them with Weenuses! Also truly adored Agnes!
As always love love love Petermans writing style with a mystery, tons of inappropriate and foul mouthed characters and always a little love and acceptance thrown in.
Loved this quote. “If you want to see the full glory of the sun, you must weather the storm first.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another excellent book in this series! Funny, suspenseful, and the twist at the end got me! I didn’t see it coming. The narrator is excellent. The way she switches voices from character to character is amazing. She is absolutely perfect for this series!! I have blazed through this series. I am going to start book 10 now.
You Light Up My Midlife Crisis (Good to the Last Death, #5) is so updside down and inside out. I Love it! I can't get enough of crazy that is absolutely fantabulous. This divine, original and oh so quirky tale is a great story of Daisy whose live is absolutey weird, zany and full of mayhem and madness. It is a Paranormal Women's Fiction that had me laughing so hard and sobbing at others. Daisy's life is absolutely bonkers she rides by the seat of her pants and hopes for the best with her eyes closed, she loves the grim reaper, her dad is an Archangel and has many other friends with weird titles. I love that Robyn's humour knows no bounds and you never know what she comes up with. Robyn and the other group of authors that have banded together to bring brilliance of women over 40 a new lease on life. Hail the Fab 13, you should look them up you are going to love their work.
Song living in repeat in my head while writing this "Don't stop believin." Lawd this book had me looking like I was a bit of a loony, with the laughing and all the yelling I was doing at Daisy. I'm with Daisy and wishing for just one day of normal, but I guess being both the Death Counselor and Angel of Mercy, there's no such thing. Though I truly love the massive amount of kick a$$ friends she's made along the way. Their neverending amount of crazy knowledge astounds me to no end, lol. I need the next book asap.
I can not wrap my head around some of this stuff happening. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. Y'all going to need to have room when reading this one. I was angry with them, wanting to walk around and get all the feelings out. Then bam the end. What is going on? Be ready for this.
Too much going on. Daisy is all over the place. Ending of course mother cliff hanger. I am over cliff hangers for these storylines. There is so much a reader can take.
Run for Your Midlife Good to the Last Death, Book 9
I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.
Media Type: Audiobook Source: PW Public Library Dates Read: 7/13/23 - 7/14/23 Stars: 4 Stars Narrator(s):Jessica Almasy
The Story:
I am enamored with this series. Daisy and company keep me laughing while dealing with the craziest situations. The storylines in this series continue to be entertaining and addictive.
I love this series. I enjoy the humor and characters. However, this book should have been a novella. It really was just a filler book lacking in details, depth and story. Also I find it irritating when authors don't finish a story line and leave a massive cliffhanger.
If you, like me, just read the previous book you can skip chapters one and 2 as they are a direct repeat of the last part of the previous book. gives me TV show vibes "previously on good till the last death...". This book was a little all over the place, I understand it was supposed to be as the characters were confused but at times it felt just hectic. The reveal was a little too strongly hinted at to be any kind of suprise, the fact that I had pronounced Draagoon like an elongated form of dragon rather than goon helped, as soon as Lilith quoted King Lear I was suspicious, then there was the info that the Handyman had an 80s vibe (Mullet) and finally the hoarding, I personally describe my hoard of books as a collection, it wasnt hard to put together. I was happy Gideon didnt betray Daisy, not sure she could have forgiven him. I hope we get more Zander and I hope his sister is alive. I am annoyed that this book ended on yet another cliffhanger. Though this book was certainly better than the last in my opinion I do think it may have been better to end this series a few books ago, it's getting a bit much. That being said I will be reading the next one when it comes out as thanks to the cliffhanger I will obsess until I know what happens.

Stupid cliffhanger at the end and absolutely nothing of substance it was accomplished during this book. Very disappointed in how this series is turning out and wish the author would just actually have something happen and then have it conclude and be a good story with a good plot. Fingers crossed that next book is the last book and it actually has a final plot because this is just awful.
When some of Daisy’s loved ones disappear what can she do?? Only one thing to do call in all the reinforcements and solve this before it’s to late. This series is an absolute delight. Mystery, suspense and as always a laugh riot.
Oh c’mon, Peterman! You’re going to leave us hanging?! Again?! You did that in the previous book (It’s A Hard-Knock Midlife)! Sigh. The next book “It’s A Hell of A Midlife” won’t be released until September 18, 2023. I’ll have to wait 6 months to find out how love conquers all and how Tory comes to moving into Candy’s House of Kids.
Well, it’s definitely something to look forward to, that’s for certain. As I’ve said before, Peterman, you’re brilliant. I just adore your mind and the way you view the afterlife and the real love of a true friend (or 10). I honestly believe in everything you come up with and how real the battles are for Good vs Evil. There are always spiritual battles going on around us that we can’t see or even comprehend in our human minds, but I feel you have somewhat of a grasp on the other realm of existence.
These are amazing reads - every book in this series. Be sure to start with the first book though. Although you can jump right into the third or fourth and still get who does what, it’s much better to begin at the beginning.
Oh! I just remembered something else… It must be pretty amazing to bring life to the characters contained in A Midlife series, because they all love so hard and protect one another to the death. Lol. Seriously though, I love the characters - they aren’t even real, but I feel like I’d do everything I could to protect them, too. Charlie, June, Candy, the Queens, Tory, Gabe, Rafe, Abby, Prue, Alana Catherine, Daisy, Gram, Missy, Jennifer, Tim, Daisy, Gideon…each person has his own personality traits that make him unique and crucial to the plot and I adore every single one of them.
For my next choice, I am going to read a book by Amanda Flower called “Honeymoons Can Be Hazardous (An Amish Matchmaker Mystery Book 4)”. I did read the previous 3, although it has been awhile. However, they are cute books and less complicated than A Midlife where sometimes I feel like I should be taking notes! In a good way, of course.
This series started out fun and ridiculous. Unfortunately, I feel like it’s become ridiculous and boring. The characters are still somewhat interesting, but the senseless, massive destruction a few of them constantly engage in, is very immature and puts them on par with spoiled pre-schoolers throwing their toys. The toothpick angle is now so overdone it’s tiresome (at one point a ghost had one in her mouth, and in a later scene, that same ghost tried to take one, and it fell through her fingers). The wenis bit was cute and interesting, but it too became way overdone and tiresome. I really hate when the MC of a series has a baby, and then the baby is always shipped away somewhere or being taken care of by someone else. I’m sure the authors intention was to show what a caring parent the MC is by sacrificing her time with the child in order to keep it safe, but it just comes across to me as the baby being abandoned by its parent(s). In the final chapter, the MC was lamenting her stupidity, something I’d already been doing. It was almost embarrassing for me, and I don’t know if that was for the MC herself, or for the author writing it. I was struggling to give this book 2 stars throughout, but since there was a few redeeming quips, I was going to give it a 2.5 and round it up to 3. The ending was such a non-ending that I gave it a 2, and that was being generous . This was a book about almost nothing, with the conclusion to this particular story in the next book, hopefully (maybe).
This is one of my favorite series by far. And I always look forward to what I am going to be learning from the new book! So many facts but this time I most definitely learned a new word or two and they are both damn hilarious! I will forever be using that term now. I still absolutely love Daisy and each book she gets better and better and comes into her own life, personality, and powers with a badass force. She's so compassionate and loves fiercely and just rolls with whatever comes her way. I'd love to be like her when I grow up. But I think some of my new favorite characters are the queens still. We didn't get much of all of them this time but what we got is still the best. Interesting to learn some things about who they really are inside. They are all fabulous! Lots of Candy this book and I am thrilled for it. She will reign at the top of my favorite characters forever and ever. I hope we get to dive into Tory some more as she's shaping up to be..someone... a little less Gideon but that's ok it can't always be about the anti hero and a love story. Let Daisy kick some ass on her own. It was mostly all the females kicking butt in this one and I loved it! As usual I laughed a lot and got sucked into the story like it was my life. And boy oh boy I cannot wait to see how Daisy can save the day in the next book!!

There are very few things I despise more than, well, its a party that starts with G. One of those things is cliffhangers. I waited to read the last few books in this series until now because of my previous rage at the cliffhangers in this series. I should have waited until the series was finished. To me, cliffhangers are cheating and almost cruel to loyal readers and kind of greedy when you think about it. Robyn Peterman is one of my all time favorite authors and I've recommended her books to many. I stripped, recommending when the cliffhanger series started.
Now, the reason for 5 stars. Its a great read. This goes for the last few I left hanging out in my kindle. They're exciting, hilarious, suspenseful, unpredictable, and so much fun. The characters are unique and delightful. The storyline is brilliant. You'll experience every emotion you possess. They're so enjoyable and this particular installment was a nail biter. But... Be prepared for a dastardly cliffhanger. Not a subtle one. An in you face I need to break dishes kind of cliffhanger.
Run for Your Midlife starts up right where the previous book ended. Daisy’s evil predecessor is now a ghost asking for her help. This leaves her confused about what to do – light or dark? She decides to let someone else decide. Of course, this is Daisy’s life, so nothing goes as planned. Before Zadkiel can settle into purgatory, he, Gideon, and Gabe, disappear. With the help of her friends Daisy goes off in search of the trio. I still love the entire cast of this series. I found myself laughing our loud several times. My husband even stopped what he was doing to find out what I was laughing about. Robyn Peterman’s books are hilarious, sometimes poignant and embrace the themes of found family and the power of love. I highly recommend this book and the series. Each book builds on the events of the previous book so the series must be read in order. And I really want to know – did anyone else pinch their weenus while reading?
I listened to the audiobook. Narrator Jessica Almasy gave a fantastic performance. She absolutely nails the voice of Daisy, or at least what I imagine Daisy would sound like. She does a great job with the voices of the supporting characters as well.
Outrageously funny series that just keeps building on previous books with humor coming at you from all corners. I even learned a new word, Weenuses! You got to read the book to learn the meaning but I will say it is not anything that popped into my mind. The four horsemen of the apocalypse are crazy and I would love to have friends like them.
Yes, each book has an awesome cliffhanger but if you're a fan of this series you look forward to see where the author will leave us hanging and how things are going to somehow work themselves out. The whole cast of characters should be locked up in a crazy house yet they are just what the reader needs to keep us entertained. A new villain was added and two favorites are missing yet this insane group of friends? Can we call them that, not sure but this group will work together to find their missing. With that said, I am hopelessly addicted to this series and not sure if I will ever get enough. When life is hard and you need a good laugh this is the series to give it to you.
This series is an absolute gem, a rollercoaster of emotions that will have you clutching your sides with laughter one moment and perched on the very edge of your seat the next. The suspense, mystery, drama, and action are crafted so masterfully that they weave an irresistible web. The characters are the heart of the series, each so richly developed that choosing a favorite becomes an impossible task; they all possess a unique spark that brings the story to life. Picking up where the previous book ended, the narrative thrusts us into a whirlwind of enigmas as Gideon and Gabe grapple with a perplexing mystery. Daisy is on a quest for the truth, navigating through a labyrinth of rhymes and riddles. The question hangs in the air: will Daisy unravel the secrets before time slips away? Amidst the tension, the group's antics ensure a constant stream of uproarious laughter. This story, this series, is a must-read; it's a remarkable journey that promises to captivate and entertain from beginning to end.
OMG! What a rollercoaster ride Run for Your Midlife gave me. And the ending....UGH! I need the next book like now! PLEASE!! I devoured this book within 24 hours it was that good!
The writing is phenomenal from the very first page I was hooked. I mean literally hooked the way Robyn Peterman writes it captures you from page one, pulls you into the story where you are laughing your butt off and cheering Daisy on! Daisy has a crew around her that helps her with everything possible and they keep me in stitches. I even tried pinching my weenus and I was really surprised of the outcome. Robyn, where do you find this knowledge?? I would love to be a fly on the wall when you are writing, to see a writing genus at work.
I LOVED Run for Your Midlife and I can't wait for the next book since this one did end with a cliffhanger that left my mouth hanging open!
If you haven't read the Good to the Last Death series I HIGHLY recommend that you do. It will keep you laughing well into the night. You will also cry, laugh some more, cheer and maybe do a happy dance but one thing that won't happen: You won't be disappointed! I promise!
I absolutely love this series. It is a gripping series that you have you laughing so hard you fall out of your seat. However, there is always amazing suspense, mystery, drama and action. I absolutely love the characters and how well they are developed. It is honestly hard to say who would be my favorite as they all have something special within them. This story continues where the last book left off. It has us on the edge of our seat as Gideon and Gabe are on the edge of a mystery. Daisy has to find out what happened. It takes us on a journey with rhymes and riddles. Will Daisy figure out the truths before time runs out? All the while you are rip, roaring with laughter at the antics of the group. This is one amazing story/series that you definitely have to read.
Daisy and the gang are at it again. Another amazing and amusing take from Master storyteller Robyn Peterman. Run For Your Midlife continues the tale of Daisy, Gideon, their daughter, Tim, Candy, Charlie, Heather, and the rest of the crazy (mostly immortal) family. There is a monster in town and they are hunting the immortals and her husband and brother are missing Who the heck is it though??? Daisy turns to her immortal family for help and as usual, they give her cryptic clues that cause anyone to scratch their head. Alone with strange info (ty Tim), hunting for clues, and helping the dead it’s business as usual with this gang. Will they succeed? Will they find the monster? Will they find and free Gideon and Gabe? Read and find out.
