WHEN A TSUNAMI SEPARATES Ruben from his family while they vacation on Balut Island in the Philippine archipelago, he washes up on an uncharted island. But he’s not alone. Miro, a young man, along with his cat and dog, made a home on the island known by seafaring travelers as their safe haven from a long voyage on the sea. As time goes on and Ben waits for rescue, he meets a variety of characters that help weave a tapestry of the world beyond the Desolate Sea. And in the middle of it all is Miro and his island, that teaches Ben more of who he is and what he wants out of his life than he could ever dream.
"...You'll realize there are no regrets in life, only little steps that wind you back to where you're supposed to be." ~On the Island of Miro, Karl Bryan Bago~
To those people about to lose hope in finding their place in this world. To those people who felt as if they are stuck in an endless cycle of unprogressive life. To those people who are looking for a reminder that everyone has their own time, own place, I recommend this book.
Every time a chapter ends, it leaves you wanting more. I was immensely immersed in the story. Every emotion seeped out from the book, intertwining with mine, it felt personal, as if I were the one in the story. The story sent me reminders and assurances. It gave me hope and it brought me to tears. It touched my heart on realizations I never knew I could find. Sometimes I foolishly escape to the Desolate Sea, but most of the time I am on his Island. I am starting to enjoy my stay, and one day, as sad as it may be, I have to leave, to a place I was meant to be.
It's been more than 10 years since I read a book other than my favorite Harry Potter Series. I like the simple premise of the story that appreciates every character and how they share their wisdom in fairing through our daily lives. In our life, there's always that Miro that get us by.
