Wicked Deceptions

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Romanov family are royalty. Katerina has always been pampered and she has never wanted for anything until now. Katerina and her brother have no choice but to flee from the Russian Revolution that are targeting them. As St. Petersburg is being torn to pieces the only way they can have a chance at survival is to flee the country.
Now Katerina knows true hardship, and loss is a reality. Her brother has just been murdered in a horrible way and she is left with nothing, so she has no choice but to find work for herself which is no easy task. Katerina realizes there is something she can do and even though it's not something she ever would have considered doing in Russia, times have changed and there are not many jobs out there for her. She turns to prostitution so that she can keep a roof over her head and food on the table. Then like a miracle, an opportunity presents itself in the form of a handsome German officer with an offer that she can't refuse. She can return to a life of security and comforts all in exchange for secrets. The idea of working for the Germans is thrilling as well as a way to get revenge for the death of her family, but the dangers of the job are brutally real. Then as the Americans join in the war efforts, Katerina has to make a tough choice. But risking everything could come at a cost and that cost may be her life.
Wow I am more then impressed with this book. I honestly wasn't sure if I'd like it because it's not the kind of book that I usually read, but it literally blew my mind. The story is chalked full of love, lies, espionage, and brutality (which usually goes hand in hand with war). Once I started to read this I couldn't put it down. Katerina was brave, loyal, and a very strong woman to survive like she did. There were parts in this book that broke my heart and made me want to cry for Katerina. Then there were parts that left me feeling giddy. It was an emotional roller coaster of emotion that I truly enjoyed. Once again Ms. Cecil has shown us that she can write in any genre she wants. This is one of the best books I've read this year. Ms. Cecil you are truly amazing and definitely very talented.
