Even in a disheveled state, she was the brightest part of life.
The sun was no competition.
The moon was jealous.
The stars were too late.

FOUR AND A HALF STARS
“The day you fell into my life was the day every dark and miserable part felt worth the pain.”
This book had me screaming and crying I loved it so much. Jaiden Wells is the love of my life and there is no replacing him. I had been wanting to read this book since its release, but I finally got my hands on it, and I kid you not I read it in literally a day. It was so addicting I couldn’t put my kindle down; I absolutely fell in love with Jai and Bex.
Jaiden Wells is everything I love in a book boyfriend, he was obsessed, tall, mysterious, and just so perfect. My favorite thing about Jai was the fact that he showed emotion, I know that’s a low bar, but it was so special to me. He was so open about his emotions and when he started crying it shattered my entire heart. His mannerisms and just all the ways he showed affection had me scream crying I need him right now. And don’t even get me started on the Ghostface mask… I LIVE FOR THE GHOSTFACE MASK!!
Bexley Laughtery is such a softie she deserves the biggest hug. She was so strong the whole book, I was like a proud mother. She could’ve broken so many times, but she never did, and I admired her for it so much. She was so tough and really only let herself feel when around Jai. Bex was so real for having a thing for the Ghostface mask I understand her completely. Bexley was so me coded because I am also a people pleaser and absolutely clueless all the time but it’s okay because I loved her.
I’m not usually an insta-love person but Bex and Jai are a different story. I loved the pace their relationship went because Jai has been infatuated with Bex for a lot longer than she’s known. They were honestly the cutest couple I’ve read about in a while, they had some of the cutest dialogue and their domestic opens have my whole heart.
The whole book you could feel how much Jai loved Bex while she was just so clueless that Jai and Ghostface were the same person. Once she found out though I was so happy that she wasn’t upset over it and accepted Jai and their relationship. Jai cooks for Bex and that is always a winner for me when an author incorporates that small detail.
I completely understand Bex when she asked for Jai to wear the mask. Speaking of, the library scene might’ve just rewired my whole brain, I definitely won’t forget it. Honestly, I probably won’t forget anything about these two, everything about them was exactly what I love.
The murder mystery/stalker plot was also done really well throughout the book which I appreciated because it added a fun edge to the cute romance. Personally, I did figure out who it was pretty quickly, but it didn’t ruin my reading experience at all!
The epilogue made me so happy I love my babies so much. They might just be one of my favorite couples of the year. The epilogue also introduced a love interest for Mari, and I hope she gets a happily ever after. I really loved Mari and her friendship with Jai because she was so supported of him pursuing Bex.
For me, I think the only reason this book wasn’t five stars was because of the fact it was a very quick insta-love that didn’t start with a lot of communication. As well as the ending felt a little rushed, but it wasn’t something that drew me away. I still loved this book a lot and easily looked over it.
Overall, He Who Haunts Me was an amazing debut novel and it would be perfect for a spooky season read. The author, Kenna Bellrae recently announced a sequel, and I am beyond excited to read it, I feel like I’ll be waiting forever.
