A sweet baker with spicy taste...

Marcell lives a quiet life working in his aunt's bakery. He is well-known for his manners, his shy demeanor, and his perfect cinnamon rolls. He's a classic good boy who's never stepped so much as a toe out of line.

The Withers Boys are the town troublemakers—faerie half-brothers whose only talents are their green thumbs and an unmatched affinity for mischief. When they're not causing trouble, it's only because the Sheriff has caught them for the moment.

But things are never what they seem in a small town, and it's always the quiet ones...

I never read the blurb for this one but it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. Sadly it was still better than the previous book.

But even with that this one was still better than the previous book since at least you see these guys together and it isn’t skipping months at a time and every interaction between them

Pretty cute smutty short story. And it's free!

If you just want something really short and really light to maybe just pass time. Or because you're an avid reader of Megan Derr works then this is for you. Or you want a taste of what incest is like. Whatever your reason may be, it won't hurt to try this short story.

Midsummer Baker is the first Megan Derr book I've read. For such a short little thing, it achieved a level of cuteness that I found impressive.

This is a story about Marcy and his long-lived crush on brothers Boyd and Tye (aka Those Withers Boys). When we meet Marcy he's in the loft of a barn with a bottle of whiskey. For some reason this had me picturing him as a big and burly baker boy. Those Withers boys are half faerie pranksters. That had me picturing them as willowy and impish. I was wrong on both counts.

Those Withers Boys? Rough and tumble .

Marcy? Kind of short and small-ish. Marcy is also quite shy around Boyd and Tye. As shy as he is though, he steps up when Boyd and Tye might be in some real trouble. Marcy and Those Withers Boys are loyal to each other even if they don't know about each other's loyalty.

This book had one of my favorite things; the hands-off ejaculation. I don't know if this really happens to guys when they're extremely turned on but when it happens in books it delights me. It also gives me penis envy. Party trick, anyone?

Oh, and the brothers? They're lovers, so if you don't dig that then you won't dig this little ditty.

Again one of the shorter ones, although a few short stories. Does contain incest but I liked the characters and the connection between them. It was sweet. Background trigger warning.

Super short and sweet taboo read.

I have read several of Derr’s shorter novellas but never any of her full lengths... I’m going to have to fix that one of these days...

This story is the fourth in the Midsummer series and significantly shorter than the previous three. However, even lacking in the length of the other three, I was completely satisfied. I loved the shy loyalty Marcy showed Boyd and Tye and I loved the devotion and protectiveness of Boyd and Tye. Even with the shorter length, I really felt the connection between the characters and loved reading more about them in the free shorts on Megan's website (and would love to read even more). Beware, if threesomes or brothercest sqwuick you out this is not the book for you. If you are on the fence about either this might be a good book to get your toes wet with and if you love them then you will love this! 5 stars.

Baking In Midsummer

Fae half-brothers have a special role where the baker for the town of Midsummer is concerned. Five short stories are hot, cute, funny and entertaining as Derr sets the scenes.

**Warning! This short story contains hot, pulse thumping, toe curling, brother on brother action. If you do not like incest in your stories it is best to avoid this. Otherwise be prepared to go for one hell of a sexy man on man on man ride.**

Not even in his wildest, hottest, dreams does Marcell think that he'd get a chance to be with the Withers Boys, Boyd and Tye. And only in his wildest, most alcohol fueled dreams does he think of seeing Boyd and Tye together. So imagine his surprise when he wakes from his nap in a neighbor's abandoned barn, to see Boyd pounding into Tye on the floor below his hiding place. But it isn't only the surprise that keeps him shock-still or makes him rock hard...it is the sights and sounds of two brothers, lovers, who he has dreamed of for years, alive and moving together in beautiful, carnal pleasure. When the brothers are accused of crime they could not have possibly committed, Marcell has to decide if revealing that he was also present in the barn is worth the risk of letting his and the brother's secrets out. 'Cause if Marcell does, life will never be the same. For all three of them.
"Whatever he'd been expecting, it wasn't for them to look so...so at home. So like home. They looked right, so much it made something in his chest ache."

I was floored by how hot I found these three. Mostly because I am not usually prone to looking for stories that involve incest--who'd've thought I had this kink in me? Not me, that's for sure. But as I had been reading a lot of Derr's other series, and I saw it was free, I thought I would give it a shot. Well, blow me and call me done, I don't think I was prepared for how incredibly hot, or how incredibly sweet, this ménage were. Marcell is a little lost at the beginning of this story, what with his mother recently dying, and then having his world thrown sideways by the revelation about the sexy brothers, but I found his desire to help Boyd and Tye, above the fear that they will know that he knows, very refreshing. And what a reward for telling the truth (sort of). I love these three and would happily read more about them and how they plan to get on with life as a threesome in a town that is plagued by bothersome gossips.

The only thing really missing--beside some more bed-time antics--is a resolution as to who exactly was behind the shenanigans that the brother's are accused of. If you are going to put this shadowy figure into the picture to bring the three of them together, I think you should at least give us a clue as to why they ended up in the jail cell, and whether it is plot to frame them, or if that was just a coincidence.

Four stars for all the sexy three-way play, and for a poor Sheriff that seems to take it all rather in stride, even if it has to be one hell of a shock. Read when you need to rise the temperature in the room or want to see what a certain baker gets up to in his spare time.

Mmmmmm.... cinnamon rolls~~~

Sorry what? D:

I kind of wish Derr didn't bother making this a free short because I feel like there's a full book worth of stuff here that was crammed into 20~ pages.

-Tye and Boyd are half fairy ... another character is apparently full or part troll (or was this a joke?) At no point does this ever become important at all ... even though everyone seems fully aware of it and mentions it all the time.
-Story sets up a mystery ... than never bothers to actually solve it
-Most of the beginning is a summary of the backstory between the three main characters, which reads a little "LAST TIME ON MIDSUMMER BAKER..."

On the other hand, this is exactly the kind of thing I love from m/m: aggressive, naughty, playful, dirty, dirty MEN. I was really pleased with the pairing, even with the incest thing (PFFFTTTT~~~ yaoi has totally ruined me. While it's worth mentioning for people who are squicked ... brothers-cest doesn't even bother me. Half-brothers FORGET IT. Not even really incest!! BRING ON THE BUTTSEX!!) and would definitely like to read more of them.

3.5 stars - should have been a full book instead of a half developed short story. But Derr gets the other half a star anyway because I really enjoyed the sexy bits and because I like cinnamon rolls :D

Oh F*ck that was HOT!!!!! Megan Derr I feel like killing you for not putting sex in the other books when you do it so freaking well. Holy Cow this is like throw your undies across the room hot. It also helps that this amazing author writes so damn perfectly. Complete detail, amazing character connection, and a nice flow of funny and angst. I loved this series before but even more so now. HOT HOT HOT!!!!!! I got to tell you though. I really have to have more of these characters. I might go completely crazy if I don't and I'm kind of off my rocker as it is. I might go into a mass humping craze or something. Please give me more!!!

This one’s a really short little story. A snippet, if you will.

As such it does not have time to develop all that much momentum, although it still is nice. Possibly a lot less to do with love, though. Maybe love is there; maybe it’ll be there – but only the sex is definite by the end. Well, that and the favourable change of circumstances.

Then there’s the somewhat controversial aspect of incest and a three-way relationship. (Admittedly, after reading so many stories that went considerably farther with breaking taboos, this one hardly even registered with me as risqué.)

So yeah. I liked it. But it didn’t provide me with the same sigh-inducing happiness the preceding stories did.

This was a very short M-M romance. It wasn't bad, there just isn't much you can accomplish in 18 pages in my opinion.

Very enjoyable, and I liked that we got to see things from not only Marcell's POV, but from Boyd's and Tye's. And I really liked that Boyd stood up for "Marcy".

This short book was actually comprised of several short stories about Marcell, a shy, quiet young man who worked at his aunt's bakery, and the Withers Boys, Boyd and Tye. Boyd and Tye were half-brothers who Marcell had secretly desired since high school. Little did he know that the brothers wanted him too. When Marcell secretly saw the brothers having sex one day, they confronted him and from there they became a threesome.

I loved how protective the brothers were of Marcell. Since Marcell's mom died, he had been alone. The brothers brought him so much happiness, and of course plenty of hot, sexy times.

The book really needs an editor, but it was free so I can't complain.

Marcell is the best baker in the states, everyone who's ever tried anything he bakes will tell you. He keeps a quiet life, working in his aunt's bakery, then having a drink in the empty barn on the property he wants to buy. One day he falls asleep and wake up to find the Withers brothers down below. Marcell has had a soft spot for them since they rescued him as a 15 year old. Tye and Boyd are half brother fae who have something of a poor reputation in town... but Marcell discovers they are closer than brothers and... Otherwise this short story would have been rated higher.

I was not expecting incest
This could have been really cute and fun if they weren't brothers. I was waiting for something to explain it away but nope, it actually spells it out. Boyd and Tye are brothers, (half brothers is still blood related) and Marcel accidentally catches them fucking each other. Marcel has always had a crush on them and finds it hot and isn't grossed out by the siblings boning. I cannot say the same. Other than that it was a decent novella but I just couldn't get past it.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

MidsummersNight4

A short novella of a slice of small town life.

Marcel works for his aunt Martin her bakery. But it wouldn’t work without his dab hand at pies and pastry.

Boyd and Tye Withers are the town “bad boys” and anything untoward is laid at their doorstep - rightly or not. When they are accused and arrested for vandalism, Marcel speaks up on their behalf...because he knows they didn’t do it. And that opens all their lives to more intimacy.

The baker boy…

So, the story actually ends at like 53% and there are these weird little slice of life stories that don’t make much sense in the grand scheme of the book. Also, the main book has a storyline that’s never really resolved. It was just odd.

But, Boyd and Tye were a hot little number. Add in Marcell and they were extra spicy. This was way too short, not really thought out well and I’d have loved some more descriptive scenes between the three of them together. This had a ton of potential, just not enough follow through.

I love reading this author's worlds - especially the books where it's little snippets, not always a continuation but set often at different times of the MCs lives. This was one of those and I did not know that going in so that was such a nice surprise!

As always though, since they are little snippets, I am always wanting for more.

As I've done in the past, I didn't read in order so I need to read books 3 and 5 of this series still. Can't wait! :)
