Love is in the air! With it comes a collective hunger for the intimacy, and warmth, of another. And in an isolated world, the demand vastly outweighs the supply. Lonely, desperate souls seeking a connection. To share everything that’s inside. Their hopes, worries, and passions that burn a bright red. Never once considering what kind of red the other person will take, or how much of it. A darkly twisted tale of longing, desire, and the lengths of depravity. No Strings Attached is a daring debut story by author, RC Scott, that takes us to the underbelly of want. Exploring all of those things we crave, but cannot fulfill. This story will have you considering all of the red inside, and which of it you’d like to keep to yourself.
Was drawn in by the cover even though the setting isn't as hip as the backroom of a strip joint. This is about a woman with classically killer good looks who lures in sad, rich widows. This has good tension and full descriptions, but too much so, especially at the beginning with boring driving talk. Whoever's head we're in, they usually seem an easy target for sympathy or at least we can laugh at their jokes.
When we switch to a rent boy's POV, I'm glad to see the two meet, though maybe their violence is too similar, like with the eyes. Interesting victims though, I especially like the mention of the coffee jar urn. If the cliche social commentary was a bit toned down and the dialogue made more natural/less movieish, this would better shine, slimmed down. Though I am also surprised there are such lush descriptions of architecture yet no metaphors/poetic language anywhere despite how the description sounds.
Splatterpunk is usually unbearably simple, thus taking away from any violence, so at least this is a step in the right direction. The end came across more funny or off or clinical with words like "discharged" "bathroom fixture" "at a rapid pace" specific muscle names, or the childishly simple thoughts after being severely attacked that made me think of Loony Tunes. It would've been nice to see more of Jax's backstory sprinkled throughout because I forgot it by the last page. That would've definitely been an interesting point to play upon if her husband helped with the scraping of cars or how she raised any kids. The final sentences are kinda cute though.
Terrifying, sexy, and the ultimate horror erotica.
As someone who normally doesn’t read horror stories, I am still a huge fan of erotic novels. This one in particular paints the scene (red to be specific) like watching a movie in your head. The author did an excellent job; it didn’t need more or less, it was just enough. I hope this comes out with a paperback version one day so the author can autograph it. I can’t imagine how dark and twisted of a mind someone has to have to write such a descriptive novel, but it caught my attention from the very beginning.
This story is not for the faint of heart, but the ending is oddly beautiful. Great job RC. This makes me want to write again! Bravo.
This story is a reminder to never trust people we meet online. It is violent and gory with graphic sex scenes, all while sinking into the character's depravity. RC Scott gives a truly horrifying look at the nature of sociopaths. While I would never see myself in their shoes, RC Scott makes me understand them in a chilling way.
As a fan of horror, the action scenes are quick and to the point. The voice is well defined, using language to inspire dread as well as shock. Excellent use of internal dialogue to express exposition without being info dumpy. If you like violent action, I’m sure your only complaint would be how short it is. More please.
This story is perfect for Halloween Month, guts, lust and murder oh my. If you are into body horror and gore with in your face twist and turns... then get yourself a copy of No Strings Attached. It's a dark ride you don't want to miss.
