They say you never forget your first love. Clearly, they haven’t tried hard enough. I’ve spent five years forgetting about Christopher Hastings. His gentle touch? A distant memory. Those gorgeous hazel eyes? Long gone. The sparks that flew when we kissed? Wiped from my mind. Now my life is going exactly the way I want it to. I landed a teaching job at my old elementary school. I’m happy again. Everything’s perfect. Imagine my surprise when I find out my school’s gym teacher is none other than Christopher Hastings. Cue panic attack. But it doesn’t matter how good he fills out those basketball shorts—I’ve moved on. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. If only my heart would get the memo. They say you never forget your first love, and it looks like Christopher is determined to make sure I never forget mine.
Kristen Granata is a bestselling romance author known for writing inspirational, emotional stories with realistic characters who struggle through the darkest parts of life and come out stronger on the other side.
Kristen openly shares her mental health struggles with depression and anxiety. Her message is a beacon of hope to anyone who is suffering: You are not alone. She delicately weaves this theme into her writing, and demonstrates the ability of love to heal after tragedy.
When she's not teaching or writing, Kristen is reading, tripping over something, indulging in her messy love affair with popcorn, and annoying her wife and step-daughters by incessantly singing along to The Greatest Showman soundtrack.
Kristen was born in Brooklyn, New York. She currently lives in New Jersey with her wife & her two step-daughters.
"That's your inner bitch," Raegan says. "You need her. Listen to her. She's there for a reason. Lord knows I should've listened to mine sooner than I did."
Raegan sure is giving some sound advice!
I loved this book from start to finish. Kristen Granata has found her sweet spot, mixing romcom together with some real life emotions. I laughed out loud several times and especially loved the scene at the school Halloween dance. And I loved Michelle's brothers. See this is a problem, Kristen always includes secondary characters that we love and want spin offs about. I'm kidding, but I really did love them. Anyways, second chance romances are really hard to pull off in a way that doesn't make one of the people in the relationship look like a terrible person. Kristen managed it though and not only that, she made me think better of the person. That is not an easy thing to do. You are going to love Christopher. And Kristen is always sure to warm our hearts with the epilogues.
One of my favorite passages from this book: It's as if we are two sparks on opposite sides of a rope, headed straight for a giant bomb in the middle. I don't know how much time it'll take until we combust, or what'll happen when we do. But it feels like it's inevitable.
Special thanks to Kristen Granata for letting me be one of the people to read an ARC of this book.
"That's the real foreplay. Getting into a girl's mind before getting into her pants."
I really enjoyed this book. It is funny and heartwarming. I love how Kristen takes on some heavy hitting topics without making it feel like she is preaching to us. She does it so well you almost don't notice. To do that in a rom com without taking away from the story is impressive! It was so nice to get to have a little time with Jax and Regan too. That part was done really well. It wasn't forced at all! Read this book! You won't be disappointed!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book & I loved every minute of it. Michelle & Christopher were so cute together, I was rooting for them from the start. My favourite character though was Aiden. The author did such a good job portraying a character with cerebral palsy. I’d love to find out how he gets on in college (hint, hint!!) A fabulous 5 stars from me. Highly recommend!
Michelle is starting her career as a teacher at an elementary school in her hometown, engaged to a guy who is, on paper, perfect for her. But on her first day, she runs into the last person she ever expected—Christopher, the guy who broke her heart 5-years ago in college. Michelle hasn’t stopped thinking about Chris after all these years, wanting answers. Why did he ghost her & leave her in the dust?
Christopher picked up his life 5-years previously because his family was in shambles and like always, he had to pick up the pieces. He took custody of his nephew, Aidan, who has cerebral palsy. They moved north to start fresh & Chris became a physical education teacher.
Chris never forgot about his college sweetheart, Michelle. When she walks into his school the first day of the school year, Chris thinks it’s fate that has brought them back together. And this time, he vows to keep her in his life for good this time.
Back to You by Kristen Granata is a funny, sweet & touching second chance meets workplace romance. If you read Hating the Boss, this is a companion book to that with plenty of crossover characters. I loved Hating the Boss last month so I couldn’t wait to read Back to You. I loved Chris & Michelle’s romance. They had really natural chemistry & their relationship progressed organically over time. Aidan is what truly made this story shine. He brought tears to my eyes and he had so much wisdom & heart for a 13-year old boy. If you love slow burn romances & any of the aforementioned tropes, pick this up! 4/5 stars.
I do not even know where to start. First I should say this book could totally be read as a stand alone but I recommend you read Hate the teacher first to get to know some of the characters that are also in this book.
I really loved Hate the teachers but man I love love LOVED this one, it was heartfelt, funny but a more quietened down kind of funny, definitely some dry humor, There was heart break, there was sass and there was a whole lot of love.
I really felt for this pair, they absolutely belong together and life got in the way, real life, not the blissful life of a teenager starting out in a first relationship. These guys adored each other and then boom!!!
I absolutely adored the relationship between Christopher and Aiden. What a sweet boy he is, So full of manners and respect and an old head on his shoulder, but this is what made him who he is. That boy has dealt with more than any kid should have to in his short life but he never once played the victim, he just got on with it.
Omg then there was Dick, I mean Richard 😀 he was an ass and Michelle deserved so much more than him. I guess though sometimes when you loose something or someone so important you decide to settle. She was happy with that, or so she thought.
Michelle's family, wow they were amazing and the kind of family I would of loved. 100% support right there, I loved them and loved how everyone interacted together. They really loved Michelle and had her back.
Michelle and Christopher were absolutely meant for each other, they have such an easy relationship and so much love for one another. I love that he calls her Bambi just like her mum did, but I love the reason behind it. Such a sweet couple that just need to realise it.
The wedding dress scene reminds me of just before my first wedding, if only I had of listened to my inner bitch it would of saved a lot of heartache and pain.
This book was so well written, I really really enjoyed it. It made me feel so many emotions as I read it, I really got stuck in with the characters.
I loved seeing the other characters from Hating the teachers and seeing different angles of what was going on throughout that book.
Kristen Granata does it again. The woman can write no wrong. It was as if she knew exactly what I needed to read. Back to You made me smile so hard. In fact, I think I smiled through ninety percent of the book. The other ten, I was swooning/blubbering over Christopher and his ginormous heart. Oh Christopher is my new favorite. And the love he has for Michelle is the kind we all strive for and fight like hell to keep when we get it.
I adored Michelle. She was so relatable. She guarded her heart like most of us would in her situation, but Christopher and Aiden are too freaking adorable to give up. I fell right along with her.
Aiden. The greatest nephew ever written. I want to adopt him. He was insightful. Such an old soul. He made me laugh and cry ever so hard. He was the heart of the book.
Back to You was a quick read but it packs a punch and you will feel it days after.
I really enjoyed this read. It was my first of Kristen's but will not be my last.
This book has everything you want. There was wit, steam, romance, self-understanding, coping with disabilities and difficult topics, there was grief and loss, and redemption and love. So much was packed into this book. Did I mention angst?... I didnt. Well, there was lots of and it's so fun to read about.
Thank you Kristen for allowing me to read this before the general public. 😉 I really enjoyed getting to know Michelle, Christopher, Aiden, and all important people in their life. Now on to Hating the Boss!
Wow, this book is magnificent. It has the perfect combination for me to consider it a romcom. I think faithfully that for a book to be of the romantic comedy genre I need to laugh at least five times out loud. And this book exceeded those standards. It has everything, from the moment the protagonists know each other until the very end of the book. I identify a lot with Chris, he's a clumsy, secluded and you could say a Little insecure, although he doesn't show it. The love he feels for Michelle and Aiden is unique and epic. I don't lie when I say that the book has quotes marked by me in most of it’s content. The reading is light and so good that you want more and more. Not only tells you the story of a couple who obviously still loves each other very much, but shows how you shouldn’t judge a person by how they look, because they will always surprise you. I learned a lot with the relationship everyone has with Aiden. Another part that I loved was the mention of Raegan and Jaxon ... Rae is even her number one shipper. I wanted to know more about his brothers, maybe a book about them? * wink-wink * hehehe. Highly recommended, 5 stars and if I could give more I would. Kristen blew the fence again with this book.
PD: thank you so much to the author for making me part of this ARC team for the book. I'm so grateful

✨I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review ✨ Back to you You by Kristen Granata 3/5⭐️
This book was hilarious, I don’t know how many times I just laughed out loud ,a few times being on the bus , I always looked up and just showed them my kindle 😊. Thinking about it now I don’t think that really helped.
The storyline was very easy to follow and I really liked that Granata put such a delicate theme into the novel ,drug addiction, and the consequences that mentioned theme has of not only of those who are the addicts but also everyone around them.
I loved the inner voice that both of the characters had , it was like the third character in the story .
Michelle and Christopher meet each other at college and it was literally love at first sight. But just as quickly as they started dating just as abrupt Christopher leaves Michelle with no explanations of why .
Years later their paths cross again when they get jobs as teachers at the same school . Feelings both of them thought were put in the past are now rising up again but with so much obstacles between them are fate playing them tricks again ?

Michelle and Christopher meet at a frat party and enjoy a few months of dating bliss until the night they consummate their relationship, Christopher disappears. And, not a single word either. Five years later, they bump into each other (literally) at an elementary school where an already engaged Michelle takes her first teaching position. Could their paths crossing be a sign though? Is Christopher still in love with her?
What an adorable and fast-paced second chance romance! If you haven’t read Hating the Boss, Granata brings on a fresh punch to simple yet enjoyable storylines, fun-loving characters, and easy-flowing dialogue. This is a stand-alone romance, but there were a few references to her other novel. I loved how Michelle and Christopher’s love story played out—the reason why he left, everything about how they were as people. There were also great supporting characters, especially Aiden, a preteen with cerebral palsy. Though on the short side, it was packed with enough heart, the characters well-developed, and the relationships clearly defined.
Title: Back to You Author: Kristen Granata Genre: Contemporary romance My rating: 4.5 Stars …………………
“That’s the real foreplay. Getting into a girl’s mind before getting into her pants.”
This is my first time reading anything Kristen Granata, and I was thoroughly impressed. Loved her fun, sexy, heartfelt storytelling. She has a way of hitting hard-to-handle issues without over doing it. Nothings worse than reading a story and hearing the writer go on-and-on about a depressing matter. I like finishing a book feeling better than when I’d started. And that’s what this book has done. Besides Kristen’s wonderful sense of humor she’s done a great job of creating character’s that are gonna stick with me. Will love Michelle’s sass and swoon after Christopher’s big heart. Don’t get me wrong…there’s angst in there but not so much that it’s overwhelming. Definitely a book worth reading.
*Thank you so much, Kristen, for providing me this wonderful ARC in exchange for an honest review*
I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick read, I definitely recommend getting cozy for this one. Michelle and Christopher dated and fell in love in college, and Christopher just ups and disappears. Five year later Michele has graduated, gotten engaged and secured a job as a first grade teacher in New Jersey. Surprise! Christopher is also a teacher at this school. I don't want to give away too much, but these characters have such a sweet dynamic. The side characters are absolutely hilarious, especially Aiden! This is the first book I've read by this author but it definitely won't be the last. She has a way of making these characters come to life. She makes their flaws, heartache, and happiness feel so real! I definitely recommend this book to anyone how loves romantic comedies!
This book turned my day around! It delivers a sweet and sexy diversion from the real world while also feeling grounded in real issues and emotions. I giggled and cried happy tears while reading this second-chance romance with real heart. It parallels the time-frame of Hating the Boss and involves some of the same characters, which is ALWAYS fun. I highly recommend both.
Ms. Granata has a sharp eye for human behavior and emotion that shines through in her books. I loved the neuro-diversity in this one, and the spotlight on the struggle to reconcile your head and heart in relationships.
Once again, a devourable story by this talented author.
So, I loved Hating the Boss, but that book was as stressful to read as it was hilarious. False accusations are just harder for me to read, especially in a romance. So Back to You kept a lot of the absolutely fantastic elements from the first book--colorful, fleshed out characters, humor, sweetness and wonderful insights--while toning down that stress. But of course there's still drama and "will they won't they" questions, and a stunning "aww" ending.
I’m so happy to have received an ARC of this! I loved Hating The Boss and couldn’t wait to see what was next! Again, the men in these books are completely dream worthy. I would definitely love for all the men in the world to be like Christopher and Jaxson! This book had me laughing out loud and rooting for Chris the whole time. I mean, there’s a real Dick involved (haha). This is definitely a fun light read and the steam level isn’t over the top. I love Kristen’s work!
OMG - what can I say about this book? It was the first book by Kristen that I read and it was incredible! I really enjoyed it! I love the humour in it and it was a very easy read for me! I loved Christopher and Michelle! Chris reminded me a lot of myself as I am very clumsy. I loved what he have done for his nephew. I loved Aiden as well, so high spirited and trying to get Michelle and Chris together. So cute! I would definitely recommend if you like romcoms and a good humour and banter.
My cheeks hurt from smiling. I dare you not to swoon when reading this book. Spoiler alert: you won’t be able to resist.
This book was charming, witty, and touching— a second chance romance at its finest. Back To You brings the laughs and the feels, the two greatest ingredients for a memorable romcom!
⇢ This book is the perfect combination of funny and emotional. I wanted to scream at Michelle and Christopher because it was obvious they were meant to be together, but it was ok because their struggles were relatable and I couldn’t stay mad. Their romance was so sweet, my heart was about to explode. I will say it wasn’t as steamy as I expected, but the story was so dang good I didn’t even notice until I finished. Aiden was such a sweet part of this story, and I loved Michelle’s Dad and brothers! Kristen has done it again with this heartwarming story that deals with real issues and somehow still makes you laugh! Seriously, read this book! ✨
Michelle Figueroa finally lands a job at her former elementary school. She is so excited to start the new school year, until she see Christopher. The man who gave her the best three months of her life… and then disappeared.
Christopher Hastings up and left everything five years ago when he had to go back home to take care of his nephew. When he realizes the girl he left behind is now the new teacher at school he thinks they’re finally getting their second chance.
Michelle says she is happy with her new life, but Christopher wants to change her mind. Can she put heartbreak behind her and start again, or has the time and distance put a wall between them that they can’t get over?
This is by far my favorite second chance romance I’ve ever read. I have to say that going into this book I thought it was a rom-com like “Hating the boss” but it most definitely isn’t all laughter. This book touches on some heavy things and I might of cried 4 times reading this book. 🙈 I think I’m just extra emotional right now but still it really touched me. Especially Aiden! I love that kid so much! Christopher had my heart from the beginning even when you are mad at his life choices you knew he only had Michelle’s best internet at heart. I seriously didn’t want this book to end 😭 The disability rep in this book is so so good, just like all her other books. This book pulled at my heartstrings so much but it also had me laughing too. If you haven’t read this one yet definitely add it to your TBR! It’s super underrated and I don’t know why. This book deserves so much more love. I only have one more Kristen Granata to read and then I have read her whole back list. I’m super sad about it and need her to release more books stat!
I really loved this. I love reading Kristen’s books because it feels so real. I feel like I know the characters personally. I’m friends with them and this book was no different. I kept finding myself wanting to hug Michelle and text her. I also loved seeing the other side of Raegan and the principal. Iykyk. 4 ⭐️
I really enjoyed this story. It was such an emotional second chance romance and at times I thought it wouldn’t go the way I wanted. Incredible writing, funny moments, tons of steam and heart.
Aiden was easily the star of this book! Such spunk for a kid who's been dealt a rough hand in life. He sees through his uncles crap and is team Michelle from the get go, playing match maker and setting them up to spend time together. I want his college arc and HEA!
Michelle is understandably hesitant about letting Chris in again after his houdini act years ago. He disappears after 3 amazing months together, getting her to fall for him and finally give herself completely to him, only for him to disappear without so much as a note the next morning. What's a girl supposed to think?
Chris leaving Michelle was the hardest thing he's ever had to do, but he still believes it was for the best. Michelle had her whole life ahead of her full of big plans, and he knew without a doubt she'd drop everything to help him with his dysfunctional family drama. He couldn't let her throw everything away for him, so he slipped away and hopes for the best for her future without him.
This was such a sweet second chance story, had me laughing and awwwing throughout.
Because I'm Certain: I've just met the girl I'm going to spend the rest of my life with.
I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review. This is the second ARC I've received from Kristen, and I hope she doesn't stop sending them to me anytime soon. Her books are so fantastic!
This book had everything a good book has. It made me laugh, it made me tear up, and it was so heartwarming. I've written a lot of reviews, and sometimes I like a book with a lot of steamy scenes, if the book needs them, and sometimes I'll read a book that doesn't have any it and I love it just the same. This one one had one steamy scene, but man that is all it needed. I didn't even miss it, I found myself rapidly turning the pictures to see what was going to happen, and I didn't even care that it was a slow slow burn. The book was so well written, and so funny that it didn't need anything else.
I LOVED Michelle. I mean, I was so angry at her sometimes, because there were some things that were so obvious to me that I just wanted to reach my hands through the screen and shake her and be like "WAKE UP WOMAN!" But I put myself in her shoes, and I have a feeling I would have been acting the same way. I loved that Christopher hurt her, but she didn't immediately go running back into his arms. She stood her ground and protected her feelings, and I really liked that about her.
"Listen to what your heart is telling you, and don't be afraid to go after it."
Christopher was the best. He was absolutely hysterical. I laughed so many times at him, the thoughts that went through his head, and the things he said to people. I hope she wears sunscreen. Down here in Florida, SPF is important. Why the fuck am I thinking about sunscreen? Maybe Damon's right..Something's wrong with me. While he was absolutely ridiculous sometimes, he loved fiercely. He loved Aiden, and he loved Michelle, and he didn't care who knew it. He wasn't afraid to let people see his feelings and I really liked that about him.
Aiden was the best. He told you exactly how it was, and I loved that he did so many things to try and scheme and get the two of them together. He added an extra little bit to the story that really made it so much better.
I also loved Michelle's dad and brothers. They were the best, they were hysterical, and you could tell that they would pretty much do anything for Michelle. I liked that tight knit family bond they had. I also loved seeing all the characters from Hating the Boss, I love that book so much, and it was nice to see those characters again in a different perspective.
Overall, I'm giving this one 5 STARS. Kristen is killing it at these romantic comedies. She makes me laugh, without trying to hard. She also writes characters that are relateable and lovable. I loved everyone in the book, and I really loved the story. I can't wait to see what Kristen does next!
"But some would say it's better to give love a second chance than to never try at all."
Simple logic was sometimes missing, which is kind of my pet peeve with books. The things that make you go “how did no one catch this?? Exhibit A: 1 and 2 - A woman doesn’t know where the staff room is in a school she herself attended. - she also mistakenly goes into the men’s washroom, again at the school she herself attended.
Blatant slut shaming always surprises me in books written by women, especially smutty books designed for the female gaze and feminine libido.
“Because Michy is marrying Di—Richard,” Dad says, catching himself. “You’re just the idiot dating a girl who’s been with half the football team. Big difference.” Caleb mutters something under his breath and stomps up the stairs. Dad shakes his head. “God, I hope that kid doesn’t come home with crabs.”
So your only issue with the girl is that she’s slept around? Why is that even common knowledge of an old middle aged man with grown children? Why is high school gossip something he’s even privy to?
Then there’s the actual plot. Michelle flat out tells Chris she’s never going to give him another chance and then promptly invites him into her family life repeatedly when she’s been very adamant not to bring her fiancé around. Yes I get the point is to show that Chris iS diFfErEnt but the timing doesn’t hold up. Why pull him deeper into your life literally the second after you put up a firm boundary? Just poorly planned pacing.
And literally everyone in her life is telling her that her fiancé sucks. She herself is aware of this. But she digs her feet in, INSISTING that she be with him, because god forbid she go back to the ex she’s still in love with.
You know what would have been nice? If a single one of her friends or family told her “Just because you leave Richard doesn’t mean you HAVE to go to Chris. It’s not one or the other.”
Plus it’s just a pet peeve of mine when a character has a fiancé that’s just a shit person meant to foil the virtues of the love interest. I just lose respect for the character when they were about to tie themselves to a shit person. Like where are your standards and self respect? Unless the point is that the character is growing from a place of low self-respect, this trope is just lazy writing. You wanted a love triangle without the real obstacle. A person can be the WRONG person without being a SHIT person. That is harder and more nuanced to convey though. Can’t just have the guy pop in every half a dozen chapters and say or do something shitty in that case.

This book was a fabulous follow up to Hating the Boss. Who knew so much love could be found within the walls of one elementary school!
Michelle and Christopher’s story started off sweet. The perfect meet-cute. But it slowly took an unexpected turn and BAM, 5 years later both characters are wading through life... apart. That is until they literally bump into each other at work and have to come face to face their shared past. One trying to forget it and the other is trying to fix it.
I absolutely loved Michelle! Her character was sweet, smart and so darn spunky. She was not a woman you should underestimate or glance over. Growing up with brothers, she could hold her own with the best of them. I adored the family dynamic she was surrounded by and the fact that others were so drawn to her presence and personality. She was quick to fit into her new work environment and make friends.
Christopher was so darn charming! Talk about the complete package! Nerdy, hot, athletic, a little clumsy (ok a lot clumsy) and a selfless provider. There wasn’t a single aspect of his character that I didn’t enjoy.
Aiden was such a bright light in this story. A truly old soul who was wise beyond his years. I loved the honest perspective he brought to the story. Despite his disability, he was strong and positive. I loved his little attempts at bringing M and C together.
This second chance romance was not only heartwarming but also so emotional and at times absolutely frustrating. You just want the characters to see what’s right in front of them but sometimes they have to take a detour to find their way back to what they truly want and deserve. I really enjoyed the pace of this story and how it wasn’t an instant rekindling of feelings. It took Michelle and Christopher quite a bit of time to rediscover their groove and heal from the past.
Plenty of laugh out loud moments in this read and just the right mix of drama and suspense. The epilogue was completely endearing and sweet.
“Having something for a little while is better than not ever having it at all.”
What would you do if the love of your life vanished with no trace only to reappear later in your future? Could you be strong enough to forgive?
Kristen has done a phenomenal job of choosing to write battles not many of us could be brave enough to do.
Chris’ battle begins when he is just at the start of his life - having found Michelle who loves him and his clumsy prone self, he is slammed with a harsh reality of his past and chooses to sacrifice his wants to provide for that while also allowing Michelle to pursue her goals.
Michelle is just starting to believe in a HEA only to have that ripped right out from under her, shattering her heart and soul. Having no closure from Chris’ disappearance, she finds herself *settling* for one she believes makes her happy.
But fate decides to throw them on a collision course and they must face the past in order to learn to love and forgive each other again.
A fantastic virgin novel for me by Kristen! I absolutely adored all the characters - including Richard who turns out to be not so much of a Dick (inner joke - must read this to understand lol). I really liked every single obstacle presented in this story - especially when she highlights issues such as drug use and raising a child with a disability. Not many can achieve what Kristen has in shedding light on such challenging circumstances and she has done so brilliantly.
“Guess shit had to hit the fan in order to get where we are now.”
