Better late than never is the second book of ‘Gifted’ series. The main character was a different ‘gifted’ student named Jenna, who was also mentioned in the previous book. She had an ability to read other people’s mind without even trying. In this book, Jenna started to live with Tracey because of her alcoholic mother went to hospital for rehab program. Staying in Tracey’s house, Jenna and Tracey became closer. Same as the previous book, there was a person like ‘Serena’, who wants to use the ‘gifted’ ability in a bad way. Stuart Kelley was a man who introduced himself that he is Jenna’s real father. However, It wasn’t the truth. He was a professional gambler and wanted to win by using Jenna’s ‘gift’. Her friends, especially Tracey, were worried about Jenna. She told Jenna not to decide easily about following his father. Actually, she had only been living with her mother and she was so happy and glad to meet her real father. Also, the suggestions that he gave seemed quite terrific to Jenna. While Jenna follows her ‘acting’ father, Amanda had a second experience of the body snatch. It was Ken’s body, who can talk to dead people. Amanda actually wanted to get the attention from Ken and she thought the body snatch can make her a chance. While she was in Ken’s body, she noticed how Ken could talk to dead people, actually only the voice. Actually, It seemed to be quite meaningless scene that Amanda was body snatched with Ken. Maybe the short story about Ken in this book was just for the other book of ‘Gifted’ series. Jenna spent time with her ‘acting’ father, Mr. Kelley, she realized that something is going wrong. However, because she believed that he was her real father, she couldn’t do anything, but just followed Mr. Kelley. At the end of the book, Jenna’s real, dead father told Ken about the truth that he is not her real father, but only a professional gambler. By that, Mr. Kelley could end the gambling using Jenna’s ability. After reading two books of the series, I could notice that the author wants to tell each gifted students’ story with people who want to use them for their own profits.
