Blood Brothers #1

Heart Thief: M/M Gay Romantic Suspense

Rate this book
They say love conquers all, but is it more powerful than revenge?

MASON
A decade ago, Rex stole my little brother's heart in a literal sense, and I've never forgiven him for taking my best friend's transplant. When peeing on his doorstep and breaking into his house to leave rubber snakes behind doesn't quench my thirst for vengeance, I decide to take things to another level by stealing his new replacement for the heart that is failing once more. But if I'd known ahead of time that Rex used to kill people for living, I might have thought twice about my plans...

REX
I know what it's like to live on the dark side, and there's nothing I love more than watching Mason, my fabulously fem, sassy boy with a vengeance, try to play bad. When he infiltrates my company, I'm perfectly happy with the idea of my best frenemy as my new assistant, stealing my heart away... at least until I realize the love of my life is actually after the heart transplant that I need to survive.

VERY IMPORTANT Heart Thief has "gone gay" and is now an LGBT romance! Previously published as m/f, this series (which was renamed as Blood Brothers to keep things clear) is now LGBT with m/m main characters! This is the way it was originally written, but for marketing reasons was originally published as m/f romance. So happy to have it back to what it was always meant to be--as gay as the fabulous author! ;P

I figured after two ableist jokes by 6% this book wasn’t for me. Also, pro-tip for the author: do not describe the color of black people’s skin with food metaphors. It’s gross and racist.

What a ride! I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up Heart Thief, but I'd really enjoyed Skyler's Pretty for Master and thought I'd give it a shot. And wow, I'm so glad that I did because I am still laughing over parts of this book - in a way I did not expect from reading the blurb. I did not expect a book about a guy seeking revenge on someone he views as having killed his brother to have me laughing so hard or leaving so satisfied.

But that's what Heart Thief did.

The characters were fun and interesting. We have Mason, a cupcake of a man who is absolutely obsessed with bringing down Rex, because Rex stole the heart transplant meant for his brother, causing his brother to pass away too young. At the beginning of the book, Mason is given the means to infiltrate Rex's company to steal an artificial heart that Rex needs to keep on living. Then we have Rex, a billionaire by day and hemophobic assassin by - well maybe not night but in his spare time. Rex has a complicated and tragic history to match Mason's, but is also really charming and a lot of fun and really protective.

Then there are the side characters. The other Blood Brothers are a laugh. Valentine was especially an unexpected treat. I did not anticipate loving him the way that I did by the end of the book and now I'm dying to know his story - including who I kind of hope it will be.

And the plot? The little bit I gave is the absolute tip of the insane iceburg that is the plot to this book. While I called a few small bits, there was no way I could've called how it played out. It kept me reading, flipping pages obsessively to find out what happened next. I said it with Pretty for Master and I say it now - Skyler Sweeney's books remind me of a really insane soap opera in the very best way. This book not only proved that but made it clear that I would read the phone book if Skyler Sweeney wrote it.

Heart Thief is a slightly slow burn enemies to lovers with a dual POV, humor that will make you feel like you're dying with how hard you're laughing, and found family vibes. Like what else could you want? Besides to hurry up and read what happens with the other Blood Brothers - and maybe to turn back to page one and start over to see if you can catch some of those wild plot twists.

I could've sworn I've already reviewed this, but apparently not, so here goes...

This was an impulse download and I greatly enjoyed it. The heroine, Mason, blames the hero Rex for her brother's death, since he stole the heart transplant intended for her brother to save his own younger brother's life. She enlists as a secretary in his office to exact revenge. Unbeknowst to her, he's not a businessman but an ex-assassin.

Okay, so THIS BOOK IS HILARIOUS. The dialogue is witty and the characters are absolutely amazing. They're all impressively well-rounded and say the funniest things.

I had to knock off a star because there's a weird OW moment where Rex feels up a prostitute and I did not like it (also felt kind of out of character) but I'm pretending it didn't happen, because the rest of the book was so great.

Depending on what tickles your funny bone and how much stupid you can ignore, this is a silly romp with entertaining enough MCs—a twink who's idea of getting back at the man he blames for his brother's death mostly involves pissing in his homes and a hemophobic assassin with low self-esteem who loves flowers.

When the characters tells you how paranoid they are and that they know their phone line is being tapped by multiple government agencies and foreign powers but then proceed to discuss a murder they committed and the lab full of biological weapons of mass destruction, then you know what kind of nonsense you're in for.

I decided to risk it and keep reading since the setup made no sense and the MCs thought so too; I shouldn't have. Very few authors can hit the sweet spot for me of an OTT story/cast of characters that are funny, unique and/or make me care about them while getting me on board with the crazy, and Sweeney isn't one of them. All the characters are fine and work well together so ppl who can get wrapped up in the tragic backstories and ignore the stupid will probably love them and look forward to their books. To me it just felt too try-hard and neither the story, the Blood Brotherhood nor the villains made this an enjoyable ride for me.

Heart Thief is a simple and entertaining story. I really enjoyed reading about a brotherhood of retired mercenaries who have killed a lot of people. And who, occasionally, still do. Adding a bit of humor to lighten thing up could work out great. However, Sweeney tried way too hard at being funny. By which I mean using the same 'small/big/limpy dick' and 'I will cut off your balls' jokes over and over.

Also, one particular sex scene was.. weird.

I never read this book in it's original format but reading it as a M/M romance it worked well. The premise is good and the main characters are good too. Rex is so much more than Mason thought and there is a lot going on apart from the relationship in this story. I really liked it. “I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”

Ten years ago Rex stole the heart meant for Mason's brother, after he dies Mason swears to hate Rex forever and tries to get revenge on him every chance he gets. Rex is enamored with good-guy Mason and his cute revenge plots that seem so childish he can help but to find them entertaining. When Mason responds to a fake job ad in King Corp as Rex's assistant he gets suspicious that someone is using Mason to get to him.

I have so many issues with this book, I get that it was initially written as an M/F and they did try, they tried so hard to make it a MM book, but they just substituted a female name and body parts but it doesn't make sense. I'm not sold that Mason is a man, they tell you every chance they get but they do not show you, I have nothing against men who wear purses, but the author just gave him a purse, there is no sense to it, just that it has one. I'm sorry, my brother uses a sachel and NOBODY would say that is a purse, I also know several men who use messenger bags and none would call that a bag, this simply does not make sense. There are several examples like this, at the beginning, they tell you over and over again how this is a gay romance, they are gay, they are both men, you know because they are gay and this is a gay romance.

I don't hate Mason, it's like hating a cute chihuahua, he just barks and you can't help but look at it because it's cute and you know that it doesn't matter how much he barks he could never really hurt you, I just wasn't a fan. Rex was another story altogether, he is a man-whore and it bothered me that he had sex with someone else after they kissed. I understand the backstory for Rex, he is punishing himself for all the bad things he has done and doesn't think he deserves to be loved but still, just a big no for me.

Also, can we talk about the sexy times? I beg you to NEVER relate sucking with what a baby does, please. This whole scene was a little bit not sexy at all, and it was just straight nasty at some point, so he had his fingers inside of him, full of lube and then he sucked them? Just no... and I'm impressed because either Mason has freakishly long legs or I simply do not understand anatomy, I don't know how can Mason have his legs around his neck, I mean his thighs are pressing on the sides of Rex's head while he is inside him, again I cannot picture this.

I'm curious about Bambi and that is the only reason I'm giving this author a second chance but I'll probably just skip the sexy scenes.

This book has been a hoot from start to finish. Seriously There was barely a page where I wasn’t laughing out loud while reading, because it was just that hilarious.
The characters are well developed and unique in their quirks and actions and I loved every single one of them. I want their books like, right now and I don’t want to stop reading them at all. They are crazy in a very good way and I have to say, I was surprised by the depth of them and the story. I did not expect something so wonderful when I started reading this book. I’ll be honest, when I started reading the writing style was strange and hard to get into, but that changed after a few pages and I was hooked. Everything was so hilarious I couldn’t help, but be sucked into the story and didn’t come up till I finished the book.
Rex and Mason were perfect in their ways and perfect for each other. I loved the way they developed over the time and the glimpses we got from the past when Mason tried to get to Rex. I loved how Rex seemingly forgot all of his training and just had eyes for his woman.
One of the things that stood out for me was the fact that the smutty scenes were not that over the top. They were there and they were hot, but in my opinion they fit perfectly into the story and brought it further instead of just being there for the one handed imagination. I enjoyed that they were not as explicit as other books, because I prefer those scenes to be just the way they were in this book.
I cannot wait to read the other books of the assassins and am looking forward to Sonny’s book

Reviewed for Love Bytes – 3 hearts
After losing his brother, Mason vowed vengeance on Rex, the man he believed was accountable. While plotting Rex’s downfall, Mason becomes the man’s assistant. Rex is part of a brotherhood that is scary as !!!. While Rex is reputed to be a playboy, his games are decidedly different from the imagination of most. He knows Mason has an agenda, yet he can’t help but see what plays out.
Somehow, the subject of assassins doesn’t seem like it should have a comedic edge, but it does in this story. It’s all levels of morally wrong, especially given some of the subject matters within the arc, but the sass and banter give it an upbeat charm that kept me turning the page and liking characters that think nothing of killing people.
Heart Thief is told in the first person from the viewpoints of Mason and Rex. Technically, it wasn’t bad, but it is a remastered novel, so it could have been better. There are quite a few instances of autonomous body parts – mainly with the eyes. If you’re going to make a statement akin to ‘my eyes did X or ‘my eyebrows did Y,’ then it needs to be qualified. E.g. ‘as if they had a will of their own, my eyes….’; else it comes across as the body part working independently of the brain, which is a no, no, within editing circles.
Mason has a super snarky personality that comes through in everything – I loved that aspect. In the early chapters, he demonstrates some understandable hate that I wasn’t sure could be combatted, and I was firmly in camp Mason. After all, he’s an innocent with a grudge, and Rex almost has no moral compass. However, as you probably got the vibe from above, Rex and his band of ‘brothers’ are so quirky that they reminded me of the line from Disney’s, The Secret Life Of Pets, where the angelic cats say ‘We Start Fires’. Shout-out here to Valentine.
As part of the online blurb, the author states that this, and the series, were previously published as M/F stories’ but that they were initially intended to be M/M. While admirable that the stories’ published past was advertised, in some ways, I wish it wasn’t because it meant that I was on the lookout for the converted areas, as will other readers. There are several instances where m/f comes across more than m/m. I am aware that Skylar Sweeney is a gender-fluid gay man, and it is an author’s prerogative to write a character in whatever vision they have. However, while I am all for gender-fluid characters - given the situation, I feel there needed to be more distinction between the two variations of the novel.
So, while I loved the sass, arc, action, and almost everything else about Heart Thief, because of the story’s previous life, I’d have liked more differences between Mason and his female counterpart. It would have negated any comparison between the two novels. For this reason, the story gets a lower rating than it probably deserves.

A fabulously funny romance that had me laughing, fuming and occasionally swooning!

This is my first time reading Sweeney's work. It definitely will not be my last.
The easy way the outrageous blended with the normalcy ... it was brilliant
I'm having trouble wording this to express my thoughts ...
Just know it's got all the suspense
All the revenge
And the romance

Mason ...
She reminds me of that friend, the one you are always feeling the need to protect. The one that is always looking for the silver lining even when they are standing directly under the storm ☁ clouds getting drenched. That was Mason.
Oh, she was looking for her revenge but there was such an innocence to her - even when she was attempting to be evil.
Rex was a whole different ball of yarn - he was the knots that kept Mason's life from unraveling - even if she didn't realize it at the time. She had dedicated her life to making Rex pay (more like she was a bit of a gnat always buzzing your head never quite biting). But behind all the breaking and entering, the amusing attempts at humiliation she unknowingly wove her world around him and his around her.
Rex lived for Mason's harassment. He wasn't going to admit it but I guess in a way it gave him a sense of " paying " for his sins.
Rex had his own demons. He never set out to destroy her world, to rip out her heart. His only choice was one of two evils. No matter which path he followed it would cost someone their life.
He chose the path he was familiar with.

Beyond the side-splitting laughter, the knuckle-whitening suspense there lies the sweetest of love stories that will wrap itself tightly around your heartstrings bringing out all the feels.

And I can't forget the brothers - I can't wait to read their stories!
Oh, or Mrs. Cho (she scares, me more than the brothers)
And Wesley and Bambi ( I'm not telling)...

If you like your romance with a side of comedy, a dash of suspense and a dose of who done (or is doing ) it

From enemies to so much more
Firstly let me say I’ve got this book from gay romance with using this is me leaving my honest review.
Even after 10 years Mason was still looking for revenge against Rex. Rex stole the heart that was meant to go to his brother, Rex was still here, his brother died soon after he lost the heart. Over the years Mason had thought that he was making Rex suffer in small ways really and truly Mason didn’t have a clue.
Rex Was a glutton for punishment, his life hasn’t turned out the way he thought it would but what made it worse was that he had feelings for Mason the man who would do anything to make him suffer. And he just couldn’t get his head around it. So he would pick prostitutes for the night who looked like Mason. But when Mason comes looking for a job he knows there’s something else going on for a couple of reasons.
When Mason was given the opportunity to finally seek his revenge, he knew he would grab it with two hands but what would happen we need to spend more time together???
Wow I’ve got to admit that there was so many times in this book that I just want to bang their heads together it was just a long time until we started to see any movement on them being more enemies. There was just so many twists and turns so many shocks so many secrets many of them I didn’t see coming. The chemistry is off the charts and when we finally get to the passion well what can you say other than epic. It definitely was electric and explosive. I did like the banter between Rex and Mason.
I would really admitted to liking this Merry band of men That were the blood brothers. The dynamics of this group just worked. It didn’t seem like there was anyone more important than the other but I will say I had an extremely big soft spot for Valentine.
I can see this being the start of a fantastic series Lord help us because who knows where the next books are going to go But if there anything like this one get ready to hold onto your hats because we are in for one hell of a bumpy ride.

This author and book were introduced through a book club, so as a result I’ve spent a few enjoyable evenings reading Heart Thief. It had an intricately woven narrative, had your head spinning trying to keep up and ensure you didn’t miss anything. I felt like I was observing a jilted lover enact her revenge, as hilarious antics kept unfolding. Mr Sweeney has an awesome imagination and sense of humour which flowed through his characters. If you like romantic suspense, with action, humour and drama this is your book.

Mason was a bit awkward, loved vintage clothing and hated Rex Bennett. Her live revolves around stealing his heart...not the one beating in his chest, this one is tucked away safely in his lab. Why, because her brother Franklin was waiting for a heart transplant, when Rex swooped in and stole it for himself. Then she gets the chance to work for him, with a partner who wants the heart for himself. She’s not confident that Rex will employ her, given he hates her for all of the things she’s done to him in the past. This is one entertaining interview you don’t want to miss, and frankly I’d of chickened out with the stairwell.

Rex has a wonky heart, his time is limited, he has sex with prostitutes, has 7 brother’s and is infatuated with the sexy but annoying Mason. She’s coming in for a job interview, what’s that about, what’s she up to now? The decision was always going to be a favourable one for her, because he could never say no to her. However he’d say it’s to keep your enemies close, considering he’s not ready to own up to his feelings yet. Rex and his brothers own a King Corp and work together, each one specialises in bringing something different to the table. Rumours are rife about their criminal activities which include forgery, hit men, hacking and know their way around the black market, however nothing has stuck?

Heart Thief is the first book in the Blood Brothers Series. An m/m suspense book.
I loved Mason & Rex. They are such opposites but the chemistry is off the charts.
Mason holds some twisted vengeance over Rex as he blames him for his brothers death. But not everything is always as it seems. There is always more to the story.
Mason ends up getting mixed up with the wrong people, thinking he’s just going to steel the heart from the lab. He doesn’t know who these people are or what lengths they would go to, to get what they want.
He’s so caught up in his brothers death that ten years later he still want Rex to pay.
Rex is part of the blood brothers that are completely ruthless. Rex is ruthless too as long as it doesn’t involve blood!!
Not many people know what Rex has been through in life, especially his childhood. It’s pretty heartbreaking.
(and in a literal sense as well)
Rex doesn’t blame Mason for wanting revenge and he gives himself a hard enough time about everything as it is. He never presses charges for all the crazy messed up stuff Mason does either.
Rex is completely gone for Mason although he doesn’t really want to admit that to anyone and Mason definitely finds Rex more than attractive but he would never say that out loud.
When Mason goes to work for Rex there will be revaluations, truths to be told, darkness revealed. It’s got everything. Edge of your suspense, twists and turns at every point. Lots of humour and banter and plenty of steam.
The side characters were great too and I loved the humour. I can’t wait to see if some of these get there own stories too, especially Valentine!!
This 100% a must read. There are some dark elements that may be triggering to some so read any trigger warnings before going in. Other than that you will not be disappointed.
Looking forward to reading more in the series and from this new to me author.

I was not prepared for this story.
Sure, I read the blurb. It's a bit out there and, though highly unlikely, it sounded like a lot of fun.
But it was way more nonsensical than I had thought when going in.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but as I said, I was not prepared. So it took a few chapters before I could align my own expectations enough to properly enjoy the story.

It's dark rom-com for sure. And Mason was a hoot. I loved him in all his naivete and cluelessness. Or, to be honest, he wasn't all that bright. But he was so adorable I didn't even mind.
But I had a harder time with Rex.
Now, full disclosure. In my head, this was Rex:

And that didn't exactly work in his favour.

But mostly, it was the over-the-top Sci-Fi tech/spy/murder-thing I had trouble with. I didn't really feel that all those things added to the story, they only made it more unbelievable.

However, it's still a cute read. And the characters were colourful to say the least. I particularly enjoyed how Sweeney made me change my perception of Rex as the story progressed. Even though I was prepared for it, it was really nicely done. And the way all of the other crazy psychopaths and killers had more sides to them was also highly entertaining.

I would actually love to read about the other guys. Valentine in particular would make a fun MC.

Anyway. This is a charming story if you can disregard implausible circumstances.

This is a new Author to me and I was intrigued by the sound of his new series, 7 single Assassins..what's not to love?
It certainly grabbed my attention and I couldn't wait to get started.

Rex and Mason GAH!! I loved them they definitely stole my Heart. These two have a very complex history and I totally understood Masons need for revenge, but as the story unfolded there was no denying their chemistry either. They made me laugh and swoon with their slow burning romance.

Valentine is definitely one of my favourite Assassins he's slightly terrifying but he cracked me up and I'm excited for more from him as the series progresses. Don't get me started on how much I loved crazy Mrs Cho....she scared the sh!t outta me. 😂

The world this Author has created fascinated me straight away. The pace flowed well, It had a witty, suspenseful and cleverly constructed plot with hints of Darkness, so it ticked all my boxes.

There are some fantastic characters in this book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series, bring on Sonny in Monopoly Dad - book 2. He has intrigued me already and I need to know more about him.

Hmm.. what to say..

Let's start by saying how I felt while reading it. Mostly I was switching between two reactions - "omg, this is hilarious" and "wt* am I reading". On the one hand, it was utterly hilarious. On the other, it was also totally ridiculous and bizarre. I must also note that I am not a fan of main characters having intercourse with other people while developing their relationship with the other main lead. Sure, it happened off page and was mostly just hinted at, but still.. I am just not a fan of it. I was a huge fan of Val though. He was hilarious. Mason was unintentionally hilarious. He reminds me of the old classic Tom and Jerry cartoon

Mason is exactly like that. It is hilarious, sure, but you also must wonder how he has survived this long...

Overall, it is a nice comedy with a very dark tone alongside a huge dose of ridiculousness, and enough action to make it into a suspense story.

This is a fascinating, suspenseful, unpredictable and keep you on the edge of your seat story. Mason has been hassling Rex for 10 years, ever since Rex stole something very precious from Mason's brother. Mason has broken into Rex's houses and his cars, he's peed on his porch and he's generally made himself a pest. Rex doesn't let it bother him, as far as he's concerned, it's a game they play. But things change when Mace is offered the chance to finally get back at Rex, and it starts with Mace working for Rex. Rex doesn't think he can survive that, because he has wanted Mason since the minute he laid eyes on him. Mason wants him too, but he hates him. And the more he finds out about Rex's tightly knit Blood Brothers, the more he wonders if he really knows Rex. Rex's friends include a psychopath, an expert interrigater and a ferocious secretary. Rex is a retired assassin with a nice guy hidden underneath his tough exterior. Mason is a man with a one track mind, who is also gullible and stubborn. This is a must read.

meh

This book was ok. My only issue is that while reading I came upon things I didn’t like too much and kind of put me off. I didn’t like the cheating and the sleeping with other people while trying to come to terms with one another. It really set the balance off I felt for mason and Rex as a couple. Then the ending was a little off they barely even been together and are already asking for forever.
While Luke was the villain of the story but was he really? Imagine having a long term boyfriend who has a weird obsession with someone who is handsome then all of a sudden, starts flirting and going the extra mile for their supposedly arch nemesis. I’d go crazy and insane too cause that’s what heartbreak and betrayal does. Luke wasn’t a good person but not everyone starts out a villain they’re pushed or made.
So while most people might like mason I found him to be the issue of the whole book. While Rex has his issues and knows mason is taken he has no problem home wrecking relationships because he’s a broken person inside.
It’s like reading real life situations where 2 selfish people who don’t care who’s lives they destroy just to be together.

ARC received from GRR for an honest review.

So what do you do when someone steals the heart meant for your brother and he dies? Apparently you decide to stalk them, visit them in prison, go to work as their assistant (not that he did much work) and eventually fall in love with your nemesis. This is a story of Mason an adorably, clueless guy who gets caught up in a convoluted scheme to steal a heart, so that the man responsible for his brother not getting his heart transplant, dies too. To be honest though Mason doesn't really want Rex to die. He just wants to not feel guilty over his own failings toward his brother and not miss him so much. Rex has decided that he's not going to get another heart transplant (now that this one is failing) and this comes as a surprise to Mason. The day to day interactions between these two men are freaking hilarious and I was laughing every other page. The story is interesting and had me hooked from page one. I will be starting book two soon, as I am hooked on this author's writing style. Highly recommend this book for those that like MM romance with a like mystery/intrigue built in.

Enjoyable MM enemies to lovers slow burn.

What a weird and sometimes outrageous world this author has created. Rex is a billionaire and former assassin who has a group of friends, also assassins, called the Blood Brothers. They all work together on both the legitimate and the less than legal aspects of the company.
Mason is a good man who at times can be awkward and naive. He also has a very involved and complex history with his enemy Rex. A history that includes him trying to do very bad things to Rex but they just turn out to be really funny attempts at ‘being bad’.

Circumstances have Mason working for Rex and and being together highlights the chemistry between them, even if Mason doesn’t want to like Rex in any way and Rex doesn’t want romantic commitment to any man. Slowly but surely the UST builds and they finally give into it resulting in some steamy times.

This romantic suspense has lots of action, humour and drama and a very interesting cast of side characters who each have unique personalities and a set of unique skills.

Heart Thief is an amusing and breakneck juxtaposition of the zany revenge-antics of Mason, the deadly escapades of the Blood Brothers, and the heart that ties them all together. Mason hates Rex for stealing the organ transplant meant for Mason's brother, but his attempts at revenge lack the necessary guts to truly harm his victim. Rex himself lacks the guts for close-up violence, and he's utterly smitten with Mason. But both men are keeping secrets from each other, and the game is afoot to see who's really calling the shots when bullets start flying. This story is full of twists, humor and, well, *heart*. The love story that unfolds as both men let their guards down is a satisfying foil to the heartbreaking past. The side characters are all temptingly complex as well, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Good read

A fun read, yet complicated with the list of characters and their dark past. Rex is a bigger than life guy, rich, good looking, powerful but he a paid killer with an aversion to blood, kill like at the sight thing which has put him as weak in his father's eyes. Oh and he has a weak heart, the basis of the whole heart thief, he literally stole Mason's brother's donor heart. Mason is seeking revenge for her brother's death, but it more complicated than that...Mason finds herself attracted to Rex, even though this feud has been going on for years their back and forth keeps smoldering under the surface. Rex feels he's on a time limit, his borrowed heart doesn't have many more years he holds himself at a distance to others from living him. Entertaining read, plenty of humor with high action storyline.

Ok, I really didn't know what this was going to be like when I requested this ARC. But I absolutely loved it. This is the first book I have read by this author but it definitely won't be the last (definitely can't wait for the rest of the series). So this book is enemies to lovers, a cat and mouse type of book, assassin/normie, so many fun tropes. I loved Mason. He tried to be badass but he just seemed like a cute cinnamon roll trying to be bad. Like a chihuahua taking on a pit bull. Some of the stunts he pulled through wow, Rex must really like him. I really liked Rex and his “blood family” a lot, and I guess as an assassin you have to have patience. The chemistry between the two was crazy good and hopefully, as the series is called Blood Brothers we will get books about a couple of them soon!

The book description sounded funny and entertaining, and overall, the book did not disappoint, although it did start slow for me. However, once I got into the plot and characters, I was completely hooked. The plot seemed a bit far-fetched at times, but that only added to the humor. I loved the banter and snark, and Mason's attempts at 'revenge' on Rex that seemed more annoying and juvenile than truly threatening...until he decides to steal Rex's new heart replacement. I really enjoyed the story. It's a true frenemies-to-lovers story. with a bit of suspense, drama, unexpected attraction, a group of former assassins, a good guy trying to be 'bad', and some surprising twists. The MCs were great, but the side characters were just as much fun, and I hope they get their own stories in the series.

This book was such a crazy and intense ride! It had me laughing out loud at times. I wasn’t expecting how funny it would be with what it was about. We have Mason who is just a sweet cinnamon roll who is out for revenge on Rex because he stole the heart transplant that was meant for his brother. Rex is a billionaire and assassin which makes for a very interesting character. I absolutely loved all the side characters and this book was just so crazy funny!!! I just couldn’t put it down once I picked it up. I HAD to see what happened next. I’m super excited to dive right on in to book 2!!!
