The fairy realm is dying, but what better way to save a race than by kidnapping humans and mating them with single fairies?

Merlyn Glenn is a white wolf shifter on the run from his abusive family. Through what he thinks is luck, he finds himself in Winchester, the ancient capital of England, with a new job at a popular men's magazine.

Florian is a fairy working at The Fairy Brew, a coffee shop owned and operated by Fairies. He isn't sure kidnapping humans to save his race is the right thing to do, but as he wants a mate of his own, he's quite happy to work there.

Stopping in for coffee one day, Merlyn is overjoyed to discover his mate, Florian. But dark forces are looming. Merlyn’s family are hot on his trail, determined to bring him back home no matter the cost.

With the help of his mate, his new work friends, and the fairies, Merlyn must battle his family to keep the perfect life he now has.

Meh, I'm not a fan of Clueless. At first, I thought Broom simply lacked experience in writing, but then I noticed he/she has already written several other books. Who'd have thought...
Anyways, there's a few things I didn't like:
- Merlyn and Florian's mating happens off-page. This makes it seem as if a mating isn't a special occasion after all, or perhaps Clueless is aimed at a young adult audience. I don't know if all sex happens off-page as I didn't read any further.
- The POV switches every other couple of sentences - and there are a lot of them. The story gets kind of unclear because of this. Why do random old ladies and security guards even get a POV?
- The writing lacks emotion, making it hard for me to connect with anyone. I didn't care about the MCs at all.
- The fairies are made out to be stupid creatures, who don't sympathise with humans. At the same time it's absolutely normal to talk to the fairy king as if he's your bro.

I don't have enough patience or any interest to finish this book.

This was definitely an interesting perspective on fairies. No fairy has found their mate in 500 years, so they come up with a plan to form bonds with humans by offering free samples at their fairy ran coffee shop. These humans would be taken to the fairy realm and mated off. Easy right? Hahaha, nope. Things don't go quite as they hoped. I loved how the fairies were always like "Why wouldn't the humans want to stay in the fairy realm. It's so boring and mundane in the human world." Yep it definitely can be. Meanwhile, fairy Florian is lucky to find his mate in wolf shifter Merlyn, the coffee shops first customer. But Merlyn is hiding from his abusive family. He was fortunate to find a job working with other shifters, who along with Florian, would do anything to keep Merlyn safe. I liked how they both felt the mating pull but took time to get to know each other. They are both so sweet. I loved all the other fairies, shifters, and a few human characters, and I can foresee many Fairy Brew books in E. Broom's future. I'm really looking forward to the next book featuring Kai and Thane.

Cute story!

Likes:
-Consent issued are addressed and so are cultural misunderstandings.
-The main romantic leads are kind to each other and respect one another.
- No explicit sex scenes. I don’t care for them in FM or MM romance books, but I usually put up with them as long as they don’t encourage readers to emulate any descriptions of dangerous, abusive, non-consensual behavior, or lead them to expect physiologically impossible things from themselves or their partners during intimacy. Super-thrilled to have a story where the romance takes the lead instead.
-Low angst, no cliffhangers, HEA.

Comments:
Misgendering sexual insults are frequently used to imply an antagonist may be described in undesirable ways. For instance, characters label various men as a part of a woman’s reproductive system using slang terms with negative connotations when the man is acting self-centered, arrogant, callous, cowardly, malicious, abusive, deceitful, hypocritical, or like a con-artist. I don’t understand why the author thinks it’s worse to be compared to part of a woman’s anatomy than it is to be depicted as someone without integrity or honor. Nearly every woman I know acts with integrity according to her own moral value system and being compared with any part of her is a compliment the antagonist doesn’t deserve. So, I can’t figure out why the author uses degrading terms for women to call out the bad behavior of men, because the story doesn’t seem misogynistic in other ways. I did take a star for this.

I’m also not comfortable with the idea that a side character has no choice about his future partner, who he rightfully labels as a criminal. The future partner doesn’t acknowledge his accidental error and antagonizes his victim intentionally. Delaying judgment because it looks like foreshadowing for a future book and in this book the author showed willingness to have difficult conversations that end up in a better place. No stars deducted for this.

Some words are overused and they lose their impact (“runt”) or humor (“dearie ducks”) when used 4xs in one scene. The book is still fun to read, no stars deducted for this.

The author will gain polish with experience, and some parts offered more description than illustration, but this book was enjoyable to read and I am comfortable recommending it.

Intense

I really liked this book but it was so intense. You could literally feel the tension from the various situations brewing throughout.

The big plan with the fairies really put me on edge because they were doing this pretty horrible thing with a smile and the assumption that they were in the right. It was kind of scary and honestly had me a bit anxious. Merlyn's family life was so sad and you can't EVER let it be said that e. broom doesn't break your heart.

Molly and Dolly were sheer perfection and I think they need their own book or comic strip or something because I LOVED them. the side characters were interesting and I'm looking forward to their own books.

Great start to a new series and another gem from E. Broom!!

Jumbled amateur fan fic.
A big poorly written mess with a cut and paste story. Constantly shifts character perspective on a dime, often only for a single paragraph before switching to a different one, including unnecessary side characters with useless insight we could easily glean from a simple side conversation. The threat of the family is overshadowed by how poorly the fairies plan is executed and the relationship between Florian and Merlyn is lackluster at best. We don't even get to see the claiming between the two.

The idea was great, the execution was poor. Frankly I've read in fictions written better than this. Choppy and unrefined, clearly wanted to chase many ideas t once without properly planning out how to actually use them together.

This is a new shifter/fairy story. And hopefully the start of another fun filled series. Low angst, low heat, Fairy Brew brings us a runaway omega wolf shifter and his fairy mate. Fairies are on the decline. No true mates have been paired off in 500 years. To solve their problem, they decide to kidnap humans.
There's a pissed off Detective Chief Inspector, a pair of interfering grannies, crazy fairies and a group of shifter friends who have each other's backs.
Delightful fun. A quick read. Hope Broom has more for this group.

cute but young

Clueless is fun and cute with a compelling storyline, but I was disappointed that the overall feel is of a less mature writer. I’ve read other Broom stories, so I feel confident in saying this is not the same and may have been written years ago and just wasn’t published. The characters and basic story are compelling enough I’m intrigued to continue for now, but I do wish Broom would clean up the excessive narrative and juvenile dialog to make for a more interesting read.

And Then.....

YaY! A new series for me to love....
It does take a while to get used to E. Broom's writing style, but when you do, you get wonderful characters and a great storyline. This one has so many interesting characters, I can't wait to see what happens next.

No great and somewhat simple. Everything just happens fast. No real effort at all. But it was cute and the characters are sweet.
