Do you choose love or does love choose you?
After reading Big Sur which one is it?

Excerpt from ”Big Sur:
Hero: “I could easily fall in love with you, you know that, don’t you?
But I’m not going to . At least , not now. Loving someone means making a commitment, and I can’t do that. Just - don’t change, Ann.”
The last had a sound of a deep felt plea, and Ann stared at him uncomprehendingly.
Could a person decide whether or not to fall in love with another certain person? It hadn’t been possible for her.

Those profound words of Hero to Heroine just about sums up how one’s love will take a risk or sacrifice just so for the sake of the other. And beneath those words, it was her complete commitment to their relationship over her career that he wanted. After over three long years both Hero and Heroine realized they could have finished what they had in Big Sur where it all started but Hero wanted to give Heroine the chance to use her talents and fulfill her ambitions without the impediments of a committed relationship which she successfully did but at the cause of unfulfilled love and unhappiness.
But like a good plot and a well written love story it finally had a beautiful happy ending in Big Sur.

Named after the scenic American beach site, Ben Sur, this is basically a story of how a working successful interior designer heroine gets into marriage with a highly qualified architect Hero and finds that her husband resents her attention towards her business. Sure, he helps her climb the ladder but I found it ridiculous that hero could be so needy. Heroine is a one-man woman who is not prepared to let go of the hero, her only love , even if their sex life borders on rape and brutality, and so realizes the solution to mend their marriage==compromise! I personally couldn't understand why H blamed the heroine for not getting pregnant, it was ridiculous. However, big sur is the venue when they first meet and its also the place of their final reconciliation. not bad but it seemed to me that the HEA would always depend on how the mcs compromise.
