Bestselling author Hildie McQueen loves unusual situations and getting into interesting adventures, which is what her characters do as well. She writes romance because she is in love with love! Author of Romance in Highland historical, Western Historical and contemporary, she writes something every reader can enjoy.
Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from deliverymen while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.
Hildie's favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.
She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt, an unruly boy Chihuahua Pepito and a spoiled rotten girl Chiweenie named Lola.
Torac by Hildie McQueen Guards of Clan Ross series #2. Historical Scottish romance. Medieval. Can be read as a stand-alone. Two romances within the one story. Leana MacKern fell in love. The man took her innocence but refused to marry her. He was brutal and unkind. He’s now missing and his family is harassing Leana unkindly. Torac Bratton is one of the soldiers protecting the small community. He’s fallen for Leana but has knowledge of thieves in the area that may have included her missing husband. It’s a hard life for all in the village and surrounding farms with the threat of the bullies and thieves but the Guardsman are doing their best to protect and serve.
Balgair, one of the Guardsmen, gets critically wounded. He recovers under the hands of a healer. Her dogs don’t like men but as he recovers, they befriend him. Swannoc is a healer. After losing her husband, she’s learned to live on her own, and protect herself with well trained dogs and not accepting any pushback. As Balgair recovers in her home, she learns to respect him and he to her and her skills. They can make a future together.
Two romances wound together in the harsh medieval times. Two happy relationships survive the strife and hardships.
This was a fun book! I like this series because it doesn’t center around lairds but the guards. In this particular story the hero is actually older and thinking about retiring as a warrior which was cool to see, opposed to the more common battle ready hero’s that always seem to be fighting. The hero and heroine were both lovable as were the second couple that fell in love. In some ways this book was short enough, and with some chapters focusing on a second couple, it kind of felt like reading two novellas. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Warriors, Decisions, Intense Emotional Story: This story is about Torac a warrior for the Ross clan and Leana a village girl with many secrets. Thier paths meet when she needs help with her father along with a troubling situation with Leana's neighbor. Sparks of interest between the two and their romance journey takes us on a whirlwind of excitement, danger, mystery, romance, tough decisions, shocking confessions, traumatic kidnapping, and so much more. This story had me nonstop at turning the pages and being totally engrossed with every detail. I actually had a few "Oh no" and "I didn't see that coming" moments. The intriguing cast of characters are many and the complications are plentiful along with a passionate love story that happens with more than one couple. I would say the thing I liked most about this story is the fact that these are all common hard-working folks of the village. They were not lords, ladies, lairds, etc. I highly recommend this story that I wish I could have given it more than 5 stars. 5 Star cover. Mature Advisory: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy from the author for my honest opinion.
Another good read by Ms McQueen. As with all her books, she spins a tail with great overall character development along with the historical facets to make you sink in for the story. Torac was an excellent character and fully flushed out as a strong handsome protective scot … however Leana the female lead came across as immature and indecisive many times in the book. I like a strong female lead, which is how McQueens characters usually are developed..but in my mind she did not succeed with Leana… many of the supporting cast were better served, especially the healer and Balgair her warrior… I would have enjoyed more of their story too.
A decent read and recommended for anyone following her Boarder series, which is McQueens best work to date.
Torac is a soldier for clan Ross. Leana is the daughter of a farmer. When her father breaks his leg she seeks help from Torac to get her father to bed. Torac offers to bring soldiers to help with the harvest and the more time they spend together the more their attraction grows. Leana is timid and afraid of men because past abuse and Torac wants to help her. He is struggling with his own future and she is struggling with her past. He will not stop until he finds a way for them to be together.
After several years, I'm so happy Torac will find his happily ever after! We know him from The Eagle (Clan Ross of the Hebrides) story by the same author! Who doesn't love a warrior? Torac is a warrior through and through. However, as he gets older, he begins to wonder what his life might be like if he hangs up his sword. It is then circumstances bring him in contact with Leana, whose been accused of murder. He decides to fight for her but does holding a secret from her, keep her away? Enjoy unraveling their story!
I have really enjoyed the Guards of Clan Ross series. This book like the others before it did not disappoint. Torac and Leana's story goes thru many ups and downs in their relationship as well as some pretty shifty evil folks. Thank you Hildie...looking forward to Struan!!
It has a good theme to it. The only draw back for me were the sex scenes. I don’t like written porn so those pages were skipped. Otherwise once you get past all that it was a good story.
Guys, these books are fabulous! Big, hard men, that can be fierce one minute and so gentle and loving to their women the next! Torac is sigh worthy!!! Thank you Ms. Hildie. On to Struan!
This was a good book. Torac and Leana had a lot of problems to keep them apart. It would be nice if children were included in the story. It seems like they would be good parents.
Torac a warrior for clan Ross comes across Leanna running from him when he calls out. When asking a farmer bout her the farmer replied that she was daft. When he finally connects with her he finds he is attracted to her.
It is good to read the stories of those that guard and protect the laird and his family. To know that they too can find their happily ever after is a good read you're going to love this book!
From the Ross Keep to the villages, warriors guard and fight and find their true fates. MS McQueen has weaved glorious heroes and heroines in stories that thrill and amaze and make your heart sigh with happiness
