The mysterious Dragon’s Blood Elixir gives immortality to Magnus, the Pyr’s greatest enemy, and his minions. The Pyr must destroy this source of power, and outcast Delaney vows to complete the quest himself. Delaney was exiled because of his dangerous impulses, and success in eliminating the Elixir will either redeem him or end his suffering.
But his plans don’t take into account his sudden firestorm – or fiery Ginger Sinclair. The firestorm revitalizes Delaney, restoring him to his old self. And when Ginger learns about Delaney’s mission, she realizes she cannot resist a strong man with a noble agenda.

Deborah thinks a lot about publishing and writing, and also knits too much.
I have enjoyed all of this series that I have read so far. I will continue to read this series. That said, this one annoyed me a little. Not a lot, just enough that I put it down and read something else as well. My problem was the heroes constant inner dialogue that he had no future as he had to finish his self-imposed mission, and he doubted that he would come out of it alive. He didn't think he could call on his friends to help, when they constantly told him they would be there for him. The heroine was a much better character in my opinion. She wasn't someone who couldn't see or face what they were up against, she just thought about ways to work around these problems. She was also fairly strong and independent, and didn't need a man to make make her life happy, just knew that with Delaney she would be happier, and fought to get him. I liked her so much she kept this book at 3 stars. All the couples and other men from previous books were here adding to the overall story. The pacing was fast enough that the book didn't lag (except where I had to skim over Delany's repetitive thoughts). All in all I enjoyed this book, but it wasn't my favourite of this series, and I hope I enjoy the next one more.
This is the fourth book in the Dragonfire series and this time the firestorm is between Delaney and Ginger.
Outcast from the Pyr because of his own dangerous impulses, Delaney will do anything to destroy Magnus and vows to complete a mission which will either redeem him or end his suffering. However, his plan doesn't include his sudden firestorm with the hot-tempered Ginger. The firestorm reforms Delaney closer to his old self but he still won't give up his mission and refuses the help from his Pyr brothers choosing to go it alone.
I really enjoyed this book as we get to learn more about Delaney. I find him to be one of the more interesting dragons in the series as he was forced into becoming a Slayer against his will. With the help of his Pyr brothers he is able to come back into the light but still struggles with his inner demons. Ginger is likeable and well-suited for Delaney. Deborah Cooke's heroines all seem to be confident and strong-willed women.
I look forward to the next book in the series.
Hopefully one day soon Rafferty will get his firestorm. He's one of my favorite characters.
It would also be really nice to have one or two of the dragons pursue the female instead of the other way around.
The whole Man shifting into a dragon concept is really cool to me, but I have always loved dragons. but don't let the fantasy/sci fi front fool you..
deep down, it's still a corny romance book. There's nothing wrong with that though, I'm a big sucker for corny romances. :0)
I think my fav part of this one was revisiting with the previous characters who have had their fire storms already. It makes me look foward to the next one even more.
There are two things I have learned from reading these books and that is..
This is a predictable but enjoyable enough read. Delaney is a broken Pyr, the fact that he was forced to drink the elixir making him a danger to himself and others. Determined to defeat the evil hold it has on him - and to prevent any other from having to suffer his fate - he decides to destroy it. He hadn't expected to receive a firestorm but on the way to the fortress with the elixir he meets Ginger and realizes she is his storm. But can he start a relationship on the brink of a suicide mission?
The story was ridiculously unbelievable but still entertaining and enjoyable. I found myself more intrigued by the mission of destroying the elixir than the romance but that worked fine for me.
Delaney is determined to eliminate the mysterious Dragon’s Blood Elixir in the hopes of redeeming himself or ending his suffering. But the Great Wyvern has other plans for Delaney in the form of Ginger Sinclair and a firestorm.
The “Dragonfire” series just keeps getting better and better and the fourth book in this exhilarating series – “Winter Kiss” is a showstopper of a story. Delaney and Ginger are strong characters that readers can’t help but love as they demand attention and send hearts racing with one eventful romance. The sizzling chemistry burns hot enough to melt a frozen tundra but the relationship is full of hardships and turmoil, especially Delaney who is determined to carry one dangerous task alone in order to protect his fellow Pyr, unfortunately for him, no one else is on board with that plan, especially the bad guys as they plan to take advantage of his firestorm.
Magnus is one persistent and diabolical enemy, one that has hidden depths and plans that endanger the world which keeps readers glued to the pages and coming back for more as the suspense builds and the intrigue thrills in this fast paced plot full of excitement and danger. The author’s creative writing brings all of this to vivid life and sparks imaginations with epic and stunning dragon battles and heartfelt and searing emotional turmoil that makes readers feel as if they are part of each and every scene and that they understand the motivations of each of the characters.
The “Dragonfire” series is fascinating and exhilarating world of dragon shifters with unique elements that make it enjoyable, believable and undeniably awesome. I don’t think I will ever get enough of these extremely hot Pyr and their firestorms, and while love them all, I must confess that Delaney’s firestorm just may be my favorite.
he Dragonfire series, as you can guess, is about shapeshifting dragons. One of the things that I enjoyed about this series is the beautiful descriptions of the men in their dragon forms.
Delaney has distanced himself from the Pyr because of what he believes is his darkness and his need to destroy the Dragon's Blood Elixir, the cause of his darkness. So he's gone rogue, set himself apart and decided on a suicide mission against the Pyr's worst enemy. Then, fate steps in and Delaney's firestorm occurs. The firestorm is the instinct in the male telling him this is his mate and he needs to get her pregnant - pronto! Delaney, bless his heart, is more than willing to fulfill his destiny.
Ginger Sinclair is a chef who is determined to make a go of the family dairy farm. When she meet Delaney she's attracted to the tall, good looking guy who just happens to be a great dancer. When the sparks literally fly between these two, Ginger gives in to the attraction, taking Delaney home with her. Yep, the firestorm is a powerful thing!
If you're not a big fan of the "destined mate" trope, then you're probably going to have a hard time with this romance. I'm fine with the "one and only mate" romance but I have to believe the hero and heroine belong together with or without the cosmic pull of whatever deity is in control, in this case the Great Wyvern. With Delaney and Ginger I found it difficult to believe in their deep feelings for each other happening overnight. Sure, there was plenty of lust but nothing to base a relationship on let alone start a family.
So while the romance didn't work very well for me, I do like how the dragon mythology is handled along with that male camaraderie that we see so often in these type of books. Get a group of single guys who, one by one, find their true loves while they fight a common enemy. I also like how the heroes have different viewpoints on being a Pyr. Some are old school and believe strongly in everything the Great Wyvern tells them. Others, respect the old ways but feel it's time for a change, moving into the future while respecting the past. These are not cookie-cutter heroes but instead have their own lives and their own interests apart from being dragons.
The Dragonfire series continues to move along with the Pyr's goal of fighting off the Slayers (evil dragons) while building lives with their found mates. For the single guys, you know their time will come along with their firestorms. I'm glad I choose to get back into this series, I'd forgotten what fun it is!
I am so glad that this story was about Delaney Shea and his firestorm!
*********spoilers ahead if you have not read the previous books in this series!**********
Okay, you've been warned!
The Pyr are without the 2 main predicators that used to help them predict whose firestorms are approaching, and the previous 3 were related to some major eclipses. A minor eclipse takes everyone by surprise, especially Delaney Shea! He has survived and been partially healed from the Dragon Blood Elixer's influence on his soul. Magnus, the leader of the Slayers had forced the elixer on him when his body had died, but his soul not yet fled. Magnus had created many Shadow Dragon Fighters that way, but with his soul intact, Delaney was different. His brother Donovan's firestorm had helped him partway to recovering, and Sloane had been working with him even further. It was when he discovered that Magnus had placed some hidden orders that Delaney had to fight himself over... Delaney had felt that the only way to keep his friends and their human mates safe was to exhile himself as far away as he could. He also felt that he should be the one to destroy the elixer, and the night before he was to set to do just that, he stops in a local bar for a drink. A chance encounter with one of the ladies in the club, Ginger Sinclair, brings about the firestorm! Delaney figures he can do one good thing by connsummating his firestorm before his suicide mission.
I really like how this story came together. Ginger definitely gives Delaney a challenge in this book. They are good for each other, but there are a lot of complications that need to be dealt with. When some of Delaney's Pyr friends are drawn to his firestorm and show up, along with a new Pyr to the group, Thorolf, provides a little comic relief, as well as some problems between the two, especially after she finds out he's a dragon shifter! Then of course, there's the added complications of the Slayers that decide to kidnap and kill poor Ginger. She's not your typical damsel in distress, and I really like her and what she does for Delaney!
After reading the preview for the next book in the series featuring Niall's firestorm.... I cannot wait to get that book in my hands!
The long war between the Pyr and Slayers is about to clash again in Winter Kiss. Delaney, an outcast, resolves to go on a suicide mission to face Magnus and destroy the Elixir. But he never expected his firestorm to react to Ginger one night. Ginger doesn't know about the dragon-shifters until she's swept in once she follows Delaney.
I loved Ginger. She's fun, puts up her front, doesn't let Delaney decide her fate and goes after what she knows is worthy. It started that one night when she had a bit too much to drink and spends the night only to find him gone the next day. Now Ginger listens to her instincts and knows he's a good man. Which pretty much leads her into the plot. How Delaney was portrayed as a tortured hero was really good. He fights his ownself, the shadows of his wrongdoings because of the taint of the Dragon Blood and is out of control sometimes. He doesn't think himself worthy but Ginger - headstrong - doesn't give him up easily and shows him he isn't. Their romance was one of the best.
I'd like to smack Delaney a few times when he suddenly decides things on his own. Just going after the big baddie knowing it'll take his life? What about Ginger? And deciding to leave her clueless and planning to get her pregnant and leave? Thankfully Ginger is rightfully pissed and puts him in his place. But she cares for him. She had the patience and forces Delaney to see how good he is. He's set apart from the group - nicely done- but he won't let anything hurt his mate. The tension and love scenes were sweet but intense. It's just a bit frustrating seeing Delaney deny his good side sometimes.
Several mates from the previous books showed up along side Delaney and it's nice seeing them interact. The plot and backstory heavily relied on the series, so it's good to read the series book-by-book. As for the action, I always loved the idea of dragon shape-shifters so yeah, omg-wow. A bit too heavily but it's nice seeing Ginger included as well.
Another fine read in the Dragonfire series - like the others it is filled with action, suspense and the fires of life and love. Delaney, who was victimized by the head villain in earlier books, has basically given up on his life. Physically, mentally, and emotionally tortured by the Elixir he was force-fed, he has decided to make an 'ultimate sacrifice' to eliminate the Elixir that threatens to destroy the balance. Then his firestorm blooms, shifting his priorities and eroding his resolve. Ginger is his destined mate and refuses to be loved and left. Either he must stay to raise their child or she refuses to cooperate. When he sneaks off to meet his fate she follows right behind him and finds out there is far more in the world than she knew...
All the Pyr and most of the Slayers we've met in earlier books [and their mates and children:] are part of this book. This is a series where order is extremely important.
Dragonfire 1. Kiss of Fire (2008) 2. Kiss of Fury (2008) 3. Kiss of Fate (2009) 4. Winter Kiss (2009) 5. Whisper Kiss (2010)
4.5 stars (Man I wish Goodreads would give us that other half star)
This was a fantastic entry in Deborah Cooke's Dragon series. I'm a huge fan of Dragon stories anyway and hers are everything I love about them. Hero to die for. Heroine I loved (and how rare is that!) Good storyline and secondary characters that don't get in the way, yet you want to see more of.
Oh and there's preview of the next book at the very end. Holy Moly. I'm not going to make it til August 2010!
This was my favourite of the Dragonfire books to date. I love the world that Ms. Cooke has created, and the comaraderie of her Pyr. Delaney is hot and devastating, his desire to do the right thing warring with his desire for Ginger. Their relationship is hot, sexy and turbulent, but with such heart.
Delaney wants to prove himself to the rest of the Pyr, so he goes after the source of the Dragon's Blood Elixir. Of course he goes by himself, with no backup. He is shocked to experience his firestorm with Ginger, whom he meets by chance one wintry day in Ohio. He didn't expect to get this chance since he feels his blood is still contaminated by the Elixir. So Delaney figures why not satisfy the firestorm and leave an heir before he goes off on his suicide mission. Well, Ginger isn't sure what's going on other than the fact that Delaney is the most amazing man she's ever met, but she's not about to let him just leave her after a one night stand. She may be a dairy farmer, but she's one tough country gal who is determined to find out what is going on and to help Delaney survive this mission.
Delaney is one of the most broken Pyr characters, and the author does a great job of showing his redemption through the power of the firestorm and the love he shares with Ginger. It is also touching to see the support of the other Pry as they come to his aid. With friends like these, you know the Slayers are in for a tough battle.
Delaney believes himself to be an outcast from his fellow Pyr after having been forcibly exposed to the evil Dragon’s Blood Elixir by the despicable and power hungry Magnus. Afraid of his own impulses, he decides to take it upon himself to destroy the elixir. The unfortunate timing of his firestorm with the fierce Ginger and the loyalty of his fellow Pyr interferes with his plans. As frequently happens with books by Deborah Cooke, the action grabs you from the first page, but the character development is what keeps you interested and invested in the outcome. Another excellent and engrossing addition to the Dragonfire Novels. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
This was a great, well-written book. Delaney has vowed to destroy the dragon's Blood Elixir, no matter what it costs him. He is shocked to experience his firestorm when he meets Ginger. As Ginger gets to know Delaney she sees that he is a strong man who is fighting for good. This is book 4 in the Dragonfire novels series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as others by this author.
This was the first book of the series I read and I liked it. The middle got too long, but I like Delaney and how he found himself again. The world is very complicated though and seems like it should have a 10-15 book backstory.
Also keeps describing dragons by the color of gemstones. It doesn't make you unique. It makes it annoying. Just call it a damn blue and green dragon or use their name.
Delaney is determined to sacrifice his life in order to destroy the Elixir, but he's firestorm starts and as he tries to do his duty to create another Pyr, Ginger gives him a lot more to think about. Some of the self sacrifice comes across as pity party.

In the previous books Kiss Of Fire, Kiss Of Fury and Kiss Of Fate we are introduced to the leaders of the Pyr and the first three stories which set up the background for Delaney's tale. By the time we get to "Winter Kiss" Delaney has become an outcast from his fellow Pyr as he was previously captured by the head of the Slayer's Magnus and forced to drink the Dragon's Blood Elixir! This did not turn him into a Slayer but allows him to be controlled by Magnus against his will, which makes him a "threat" to his fellow Pyr and their mates and children.. Delaney has vowed to destroy the elixir and is on his way to do just that when he stops at a roadside bar and encounters Ginger Sinclair. Much to his astonishment Ginger triggers his "firestorm" the Pyr mating urge which due to his imbibing the Dragon's Blood Elixir he thought he would no longer be capable of having a "firestorm"! Spending the night with Ginger at her farm gives Delaney the most peace he has had since being rescued from Magnus and being cast out of the Pyr's inner circle! Unbeknownst to Ginger though the one night is all Delaney plans on allowing himself, once she wakes up the next morning and finds him gone though that plan is set firmly on it's ear! Ginger follows Delaney and is shocked and surprised to learn that he is a Dragon Shifter and upon the arrival of the other members of the Pyr she faints! These two are the pair that I was waiting for, they are engaging alone but absolutely dynamite together! Delaney is so sure that he only has one mission left in life, to eradicate the Dragon Elixir and kill Magnus. A feat that he has no intention of walking away from alive, a thought which he never regrets until meeting Ginger! Ginger Sinclair is a hard headed no-nonsense woman who is not going to let a little thing like the man of her dreams turning into a fire breathing dragon stop her from keeping him around! I loved this couple, they are both such down-to-earth wounded souls that you just have to cheer for them to make it! There is quite a twisty windy road to happiness for Ginger and Delaney, along the way the rest of the Pyr come to his aid with their mates and even their children as they finally come to realize a team effort is required to defeat the Slayer's. Once again Deborah Cooke has written a fantastical journey for fans of the series, and if you have not read the books yet once you do you will become a fan as well of the dragon shifter characters! Dragonfire series order of books to read 1. Kiss of Fire (2008) 2. Kiss of Fury (2008) 3. Kiss of Fate (2009) 4. Winter Kiss (2009) 5. Whisper Kiss (2010) Deborah Cooke
Great heroine fights her dragon mate for their HEA
Haunted by nightmares of the end of the world and thinking himself lost to the taint Dragon's Blood Elixer, dragon-shifter Delaney intends to destroy the elixer which is the source of the evil Slayers' immortality knowing that it is unlikely that he will survive his quest. But it turns out that fate has given Delaney a chance to reproduce before he dies, when Delaney stops in a bar on the way to his doom he stumbles upon his mate and they are drawn together by the irrestible mating heat of his Firestorm.
Winter Kiss was a mixed read for me. There were parts that I really liked, Delaney starts out as a great tortured hero with shadows on his soul as a result of his captivity by the evil Slayers and the lingering effects of the elixer which cause him to loose control - during one episode he attacked his brother's pregnant mate. Also I liked Delaney's mate Ginger who is absolutely great. When the pair quickly connect for the consummation of Delaney's firestorm and he sneaks out of his sleeping mate's bed to go play hero/martyr, Ginger follows right on after him to find out what her mistake in judgement was - since her instincts had told her that he was a keeper and `cause you gotta learn from your mistakes'. I like that, when Ginger catches up with Delaney and gets clued in to the life changing decisions he made on her behalf, she takes him to task for planning to knock her up and leave her to raise a dragon-shifter child alone without even cluing her into the fact that dragons actually exist. Other parts I liked? Winter Kiss has a great big reunion of all the past pairs and their offspring which was sort of fun and I still like the idea of the dragon shifters themselves in all of glittery jeweled glory.
Parts I liked much less? Delaney's blind certainty that his planned sacrifice is the only way to defeat the enemy gets a bit tiresome. But even harder to deal with there's a discourse on diary farming and breeding cows that goes on too long and a lesson on eclipse cycles that is tedious that first time it's brought up and then it's repeated again later, double snore.
So overall, I still liked Winter Kiss, mostly for the spunky down to earth Ginger, but Kiss of Fate is still my favorite of the series. Next up dragon-shifter, is dream-walking Niall in Whisper Kiss: A Dragonfire Novel (DRAGON FIRE NOVEL)August of 2010, but it is Rafferty's book (title and date still TBD) that I am anxiously awaiting.
Feisty, fiery organic farmer Ginger Sinclair is certain that she is quite interested in Delaney but less so in this whole mate business she's hearing from the Pyr. Delaney is certain he can fulfill his firestorm responsibilities and complete his quest to destroy Magnus if only the other Pyr didn't help him so much. Some of the guys are around not only to protect Delaney's firestorm but to protect him from himself as his firestorm is like none they've seen. I liked Ginger's refusal to be a damsel in distress, her quick mind and determination to help Delaney despite his desire to go it alone. Glimpses of the "old" Delaney charmed its way to the surface in his times with Ginger and his fierceness in battle. Magnus is in his full glory as he is convinced he will succeed in his ultimate plan this time and the Pyr can do nothing to stop him. While I enjoyed this outing so much more than the last, I felt there were still overlong pieces of exposition. The overall arc was pushed along greatly with cameos from the other Pyr involved in firestorms, Magnus's rantings and his clever acolyte's scheming, also making this a fairly quick read. The battle scenes were exciting with thrills galore and made me want to watch them instead of read them. Tension as things moved from one act to the next was very well played as was the seemingly very high note from the last battle. Looking over the series, there have been hits and misses for me, but enough hits for me to eagerly carry on with the series.
Delaney, as we have seen in previous books, is a Pyr, only has been partly corrupted by 'Magnus', the head of the slayers, who forced him to drink a certain elixir, that has caused him to wage a war within himself. A war that he is still fighting himself, and after almost harming his brothers family, he is determined to find a way to win this inner battle. On his way to accomplish his mission, he comes across his firestorm, who makes him feel more like himself than ever before. He also knows he doesn't have a lot of time, and that his mission could very well mean his death. However he underestimates Ginger, who is a fighter and is willing to do whatever it takes to show him the true power of the "Firestorm" and by working together they can defeat Magnus. Winter Kiss was such a fun and exciting story. I just fell in love with Ginger from the very beginning, she had spunk and attitude and I loved it!! Delaney, at times I didn't like especially in the beginning, where he basically finds his firestorm and just plans on sating it and leaving her pregnant and alone. That part I didn't like but as the story plays out, you start to like him more and more. From previous books we see the struggle that Delaney has gone through, so I truly loved reading his story, and I thought Ginger was just perfect for him. Winter Kiss is a truly fantastic story that will steal your heart, a tale of love and adventure, and that anything worthwhile is worth fighting for.
It's taken me ages to get through this book because life keeps getting in the way of my reading.
I love these books. I can't say that enough. My favorite thing about this series, is that the main focus is on the characters and on the plot, rather than the smut. In fact, there is so little smut in these books, it makes me a very happy reader. There still is some smut, but it's not graphic or tacky. And the books are UST heavy.
Sure, there is the whole dragon-meets-mate-dance in every book. And even if the basics are the same with the firestorm and all - no two books are the same. The action part is pretty much Pyr versus Slayer - but the similarities end there. Each book has a different story to tell, a different battle to fight. A different red thread to carry the book, if you will.
Delaney is probably the most troubled Pyr out of the lot of them. His inner battle is raging hard, and his only solace (of course) is his destined mate, Ginger.
I'm knocking this one back a star because I thought the solution to all of Delaney's troubles was a little too simple. It was just too easy and felt like it was done quickly simply to wrap up the book.
I still have a few books to go, but I'm already dreading having to reach the final book.
Do not read the following review if you have not read the prior Pyr novels by Cooke. MAJOR SPOILERS!
It's a great series and I hope that I can continue with it... though I can only order them from online. Deborah Cooke is great with world-building and making you experience what the characters are experiencing. So if you haven;t read her series you should.
