This was a fun little book. I loved the art style and the story was very whimsical. Lot of Candy land vibes and it made me think of Wreck it Ralph.

I read Polly (book 1) in one sitting with my kids - 2 and 4 y.o. - who didn't want a single break. I had to translate the book to them as neither understand English. It didn't matter to them that I had to search for the right word now and then. They were entirely into it. They even asked questions about Polly's world: Is her mother working in a museum? What's the name of her cat? Why is Polly sad when she gets a phone? They could relate to Polly having nightmares and felt sorry for her. And of course the candy world was just magical!
We also loved the idea that Polly is obsessed with colors (stones, pens...). This is one more side of Polly young artists can identify with. The story holds a good share of mysteries, but we get explanations throughout the book. It's not necessary to try to understand everything at once. We read the book as if we were in Polly's shoes and understood with her what all her aunt's secrets were. Of course, Polly reminded us of Sally. Another of Vanessa's book my kids have read many times and which is among their favorite. Polly is perfect for children around 4 y.o and older.

Very good. Was a little weird reading it because I could definitely read this book to my five-year-old cousins, but I can also read it to myself and still have a great time.

The first Polly and the Black Ink book was a delight to read. It’s light, colourful and oozes creativity from every seam. The pacing was incredibly quick (almost to the point of tripping itself up), and I think kids will get a real kick out of it. Even as an adult, I could enjoy the world and fantastical concepts the author was setting up for her series and how she handled the relationships between the characters. It was a lot of fun, and I look forward to seeing the places Polly will visit next. 4.5*

Polly and the Black Ink is an all age graphic novel full of bright colors and cuteness starring a little girl, her talking plushie bag a lot of mystery.
Book I: A New Start
In this first book, Polly must find her place in a new city and make it her new home. She just left her school, friends, and city behind to live with her Aunt Sarah on an island. At first, the island doesn't seem different from other places, but it holds a secret and it's people too. Polly must make sense of what is happening and save her aunt from a terrible fate. Although the cuteness prevails in this book, the danger is imminent and promises to make things harder. Polly must fight the Black Ink even if she has to do it alone.

Characters: The characters' diversity express a lot of individuality already, they're all different and fun to meet: smart, mysterious, sweet, caring, funny, sometimes not human at all, and I can't wait to read more about them and know what parts they will play in Polly's adventures. I love Paws. He's a chubby lazy cat with a great expression.

I can't wait to get the next book.
