Good-Time Boys #1

Sonny's Salvation

Rate this book
Sonny Good loved his life as an FBI agent, but when his father died and he was needed back home he quit the agency and became a rancher. Now several years later, Summerville, Nebraska is starting to seem a little isolated. An openly gay rancher in the middle of Nebraska just doesn’t have many prospective dates.

That is until Garron Greeley moves to town. Garron is the town’s newest resident and bad boy bartender with shoulder-length dark brown hair and tribal tattoos. Sonny is struck by lust at first sight. Things between the two of them take off like a rocket until Sonny learns Garron is also the brother of the man who owns the neighbouring ranch. The man Sonny considers his enemy, which leaves Sonny to decide what's more important—the feud with his neighbour or a potentially blazing passion with Garron?

It was really badly done. Not much of a plot, characterization or anything else at all.

This was a very short m/m story, and the first of the Good-Time Boys series. It's only 28 pages so it's really only a little vignette. The series is western-set and based on 3 brothers, one outwardly gay, a set of twins who are gay, but bi for one woman, and another brother who won't admit he's gay.

This one features rancher brother, Sonny who meets up with bartender/ex-cop Garron. The story moves swiftly and they meet, sleep together, and stay together. It's fairly hot, but there's not a lot of depth. The sex-scenes Lynne writes don't really do much for me. They're very quick, not a lot of finesse. Kinda wham-bam-thank-you-mam (or in this case, man). But there is a sweetness to the story. I wished it was longer when I finished.

But there is a continuation...according to the synopsis, book 2 goes back to Sonny and Garron and deals with the problems they face because they are gay and in a relationship. So I will have to read that one to see how things go.

Overall, this was an okay story...a little too short to leave much of an impression, but it had its sweet and hot moments.

Aunque es de fácil y rápida lectura, con personajes entretenidos, se nota que dará pie a toda una saga sintiéndose la falta de desarrollo, creo que ha pecado en exceso de que en los siguientes se podría explicar lo que aquí no.

I only read this for the Ultimate Team Challenge, and yeah, it was okay for these few pages.

When Sonny Good's father died, he left the FBI to return to Summerville, Nebreska and take over the family ranch. One night, while having dinner at the local bar, he meets Garron Greeley for the first time. Garron just moved to town to help his brother run the ranch next to Sonny's.

Though it was a little short, this was a pretty good story. I would've preferred it to be a little bit longer and their relationship a little more fleshed out. As it is, you only get to see a brief glimpse into their lives and not the full scope of their relationship.

The characters were all pretty interesting, not really stereotypes. It probably would've helped if Lynne had developed the side characters a little bit more and given them bigger roles. As it is, you only really get to see Rawley in a detailed way. The twins and Garron's brother only play brief roles.

Not deep literature by any means, but a good quick read. I recommend reading this if you're looking for something short and sweet to read.

** Warning ** This novel contains sex scenes and may not be appropriate for readers under than age of 18.

This books is the first of four and those four lead into her Cattle Valley series that also crosses over to her Campus Cravings series.

This is a quick book and like all of the books in all of her series that I have read(see above) the two main characters realise that they love each other very early in the book. I usually bet with myself how many pages in before it is thought or said first.

Once you start reading one expect to read all 30 or so in all three series since they all cross over each other.

I really liked this book. For a short story I felt a lot of the emotions in this. I am not normally one to read short stories but the series sounded good. I would be happy to recommend this. I loved Sonny and Garron. They were amazing together :)

While I originally read this book in 2008 and remember really liking it, coming back to revisit it was a lot of fun. It's as short as it is hot, and a great introduction to Summerville, Nebraska, and the characters of the 'Good-Time Boys' series.

Rancher Sonny, a retired FBI agent and former Army man, and bartender Garron, a former Marine and cop, are both men who know what they want. There isn't a whole lot of angst or prevarication when they meet. Their lust for each other flares hot and fast, despite Garron being the brother of Sonny's neighbor and perceived arch enemy. Sonny may not have been looking for a man to commit to, but things with Garron develop quickly and when the bartender changes job and becomes a cop in a neighboring town, Sonny knows it's time to deal with his brother as well. And - surprise surprise - things turn out to be totally different from what Sonny suspected.

If you like cowboys, ranchers, and cops who look like bikers, if two men who fall into lust the moment they meet are your thing, and if you're looking for a quick, fun read that is as hot as it is short, then you will probably like this short story.

This story was too short and I have to ask myself "what was the point?" Oh to set up the series? You don't really get to know Sonny or Garron. And just because Garron is safe with his HIV negative results how the hell does he know that this stranger Sonny is also negative?? Why do authors do this shit?

Also I find it highly unlikely that we have 3 or 4 gay brothers who then happen to live next door to two gay brothers as well. I'll read Coach from her third series and see how it goes.

I usually don’t read extremely short stories like this. I always feel cheated and left wanting more plot or background information. I got this book for free and for what it was it was okay. It was basically a set up for the series of books that come after it. There really wasn’t much to it. The book was told exclusively from Sonny’s point of view and he wasn’t the most likeable character especially in the beginning. What little of Garron there was in the story, I liked but there really wasn’t much there. As I write this, I’m debating reading the next book in the series. I’m just not sure I like the characters enough to continue it.

3.5 'For a quick little read it had all the things you need. Good characters and plot and feels. Few issues here and there and definitely not The Brick Yard which I LOVED but still an enjoyable shorter read' stars.

This suddenly ended at 66%. I guess it was an ok time to stop but it came as a shock.

The book was fine, typical of the author’s. Not a lot of story, a lot of sex, hot guys with only eyes for each other, mild mild conflict. This wasn’t one of her better books but it was fine.

I definitely liked this one. I just wish it had been longer. There wasn't much relationship development because there just wasn't time. Looking forward to continuing the series.

It was fine. So easy to read.
I guess when you're getting older, these stories from people who fall in love really fast just seems... Boring. But hey! Lots of sex scenes.

I know this was a short story, but it wasn't that good, and didn't really whet my appetite for more in the series. The relationship moved in leaps and bounds and honestly I didn't really feel any of the characters.

“How easy it is to judge rightly after one sees what evil comes from judging wrongly!” ~ Elizabeth Gaskell

Sonny Good of 'Sonny's Salvation' runs a successful ranch in Summerville, Nebraska. which he took over when his father died. Sonny is openly gay, but there aren't many prospects in the small town and Sonny is lonely. He is past wanting one-night stands. He wants to build a life with someone. Just as he's about to give up and resign himself to being alone forever, he meets Garron, the new bartender in town, and things begin to look better.

Garron and Sonny's lust for each other burns bright from the beginning, but soon grows into something much stronger. The only real flaw is Sonny's dislike for Garron's brother, Jeb, who owns the ranch next to Sonny's. Sonny always thought the previous owner would sell it to him, not some stranger who doesn't know what he's doing. Garron is very loyal to his brother and won't tolerate Sonny badmouthing him, so they try to work around it. When things start to heat up between them, Garron insists that Sonny and his brother, Rawley, come to dinner to meet Jeb, and attempt to come to some kind of truce. Being blunt, Sonny comes right out and asks Jeb about why Jack, the former owner, sold the ranch to Jeb instead of him. When Jeb tells him the story of why it happened, Sonny “felt like a Grade A bastard.” After this revelation, and clearing the air, Sonny offers his help and advice in the future.

This is a short story introducing the characters to a new series and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. I'm pretty sure they will be dealt with in the upcoming stories to follow. Even though I didn't get to learn much about Sonny and Garron, I liked that they could be so open with their passion and their emotions. They are men who know what they want, and go after it. Thanks, Carol, for what looks like a promising new series.

This ebook was recommended to me by D for the Gang Bang Quarterly challenge in the M/M Romance Group in Goodreads.

Sonny Good was an FBI agent, but when his dad died, he went back to his dad's ranch to handle things. Since it's a small town his choices are quite limited and he has been feeling lonely since he got there a couple of years ago.
Until Garron Greeley moved into town.
When Sonny first laid eyes on the new bartender with the bad-boy look and tribal tattoos, it was lust at first sight. It seems the lust is mutual and they start off immediately!!
Then Sonny discovers that Garron is the brother of his new neighbor who bought the ranch next to Sonny's that he was pinning for. So Garron's brother is his number 1 enemy..
Would this stop their relationship from evolving or could Sonny overlook this obstacle.

Very sweet read. The characters are adorable and so so hot!! They hit it off so fast you have to remember to breathe :)

Sonny's brother is also adorable and I hope that he gets it off with Garron's brother, so I'll have a look out for the second book in this series.

I wondered why this first book in the series is so very short. It gave the author so little room to get these guys together. But she did, and they did, and then presto-chango, it's a love match, and not just a quickie in the storeroom.

Not that I'm complaing. About the love or or the sex. This was definitely a whirlwind ride. I thought it was too short, though, without enough build up to the "I love you's" but then, I'm all about the angst, and there was none of that here.

What's nice about it is that it's a refreshing look at the whole scene. Why shouldn't two men, in the prime of life, be looking for someone to love, rather than just someone to get them off? And why shouldn't they find what they're looking for?

So I complain and compliment the same aspect of the book. Go figure. Sometimes, it's just hard to figure out why it works for me. This book, it pretty much worked.

: Sonny has taken over his family’s farm after his father passed away. He has been alone for several years and is lonely. In Summerville Nebraska there isn’t a lot of choice for one night stands little less something long lasting. When he finds out the new bartender is gay he thinks he may have a chance until he finds out Garron is his neighbor and worst enemy’s brother.
Garron has come to support his brother but found the small-town didn’t need any new police officer’s so he is temporarily bartending. He meets the hot cowboy Sonny and thinks perhaps that Summerville isn’t so bad.
This is a very good story but it’s so short I wish there was more. I would like to know more about both men’s past as law enforcement officers and what brought them to Summerville, but having said that… the romance was good and the sex very hot

I'm giving this a 3 1/2.

I really liked Sonny in this book. He was very endearing even when he had his grumpy face on. I enjoyed the story as well, but the big drawback for me was that it felt rushed, more than likely because of the length of the book. I just thought the relationship went a little fast but that won't stop me from reading the rest of the series. I'm intrigued to find out more about the Good-Time boys. :)

This was a compelling book that nicely set up the series about the Good brothers. While the people in this small town in Nebraska are mostly accepting of the alternative lifestyle of some of their people, there are of course some who are much less tolerant and want the Good brothers gone. Sonny and Garron make a very interesting couple, and while the sex is indeed explicit and definite male / male, it doesn’t over shadow the love story.

A fast-paced romance! I loved the combination of cowboy and motorcycle bad boy in this introduction to a fun, new series. I can definitely see some future couples in the making from the secondary characters and I’m looking forward to spending a little more time with each of them. Hot action, quick read – very nice!

Interesting short story with lots of sex scenes and the intro of some MCs and secondary characters that I'm sure will be present in future installments. The MCs, Sonny and Garron, were well sketched and I'm looking forward to checking out the next book before I decide if I'm going for broke with the full series.
