A 30-Day Bible Journal to Help You Engage with Scripture and Pray with Purpose, Featuring Artwork from Ruth Chou Simons ESV Prayer Journals guide your study of a foundational Scripture topic over 6 weeks and create space for writing and prayer―turning your quiet time into a meditation on God’s Word. Each week opens with an overview related to that week’s passage, followed by 5 days of teaching and prayer prompts. Each journal also includes space for writing, clear definitions of biblical terms, and artwork by Ruth Chou Simons. This ESV Prayer Journal focuses on what Scripture teaches about how we find peace with God, other people, and within our own hearts and minds.
I’ve been journaling for about 60 years. There have been many, MANY products that were more elaborate and expensive. They were also much less useful in a spiritual and directive way. Without a doubt, the Introduction and How to Use This Journal sections are some of the best encouragement I’ve ever received before starting a study. This one is on PEACE and employs the use of this lovely Prayer Journal.
Author, Erika Allen and Artist Ruth Chou Simons, combine their talents to create a warm, welcoming and thought provoking study into PEACE that is a 6 week Biblical journey. Each week revolves around a specific scripture passage, both old and new testaments are used, a short lesson is followed by 5 days of inspirational prompts that refer back to the scripture. These clarify, define terms and guide prayers for the day along with suggestions for actions the user might take.
Scriptures are taken from the ESV translation. Each day provides about a full page of lined space for journaling. Paper quality will support pen or pencil and possibly a fine point marker if you’re not heavy handed.
I’m a believer in the adage that you get out of something what you put into it. That said, this study could last far longer than 6 weeks with contemplation, prayer and practical application of the PEACE issues that will arise as a consequence to serious users of this journal. An extra notebook or pages to insert could be a good accompaniment.
All things considered, an excellent Prayer Journal and gift idea📚
This prayer journal features thirty days of reading over six weeks. Each week focuses on a different Scripture passage related to peace, and the selected passages span the Old Testament and New Testament. The readings are all well-written, succinct, and insightful, and there are ruled lines provided for readers to write prayers in response. Many people will find this a nice alternative to typical Bible studies that ask a series of interpretation or reflection questions, if they want something more self-directed or are in a stage of life where they need something simpler.
Although the publisher is marketing this book to women, there is nothing gender-specific about the content. The floral art is the most traditionally feminine thing about this book, and the ideas and applications about peace in Christ apply to all Christians, regardless of their gender or background. Women who have a hard time getting into more "frilly" women's ministry type books will appreciate the straight Scripture teaching here, and men can benefit from this book as well.
I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Own. This contained some of my favorite verses on peace, and it was a lovely experience to sit on each of them for five days of meditation. One of the beauties of Scripture is that there always new insights to be had, and so it was with this guided prayer journal.
These prayer journals are excellent. Each week focuses on a Scripture passage dealing with peace, with each day focusing on a verse in the passage or part of the verse. There is commentary on the verse and praying prompts. This was a good prayer journal to use going up through Christmas as it helped to reflect on Christ, who is our prince of peace.
