Alien adventure story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💜🩷💙💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌎
Character development: ☹️😍😋😤🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Penelope - she is a human female that has lived with the Kadrixan males for the past two years. She came to help them with the rut and decided to stay as it was a much better life than the one she led in the colony. She writes erotic romance novels and posts them online for anyone to read.

The Hero: Vostak - he was a grumpy male Kadrixan who is determined that he will never have a mate. He was so determined that he didn’t even set up a nest in the mountains which is where his fellow males take their mates. He was rejected in the past and is now convinced that he doesn’t deserve a mate. Though he watches the human female, Penelope.

The Story: Penelope and Vostak go on a mission and are forced to spend time together. Penelope had hoped to find a mate amongst the Kadrixan males, but hadn’t found one yet, though she often watched Vostak in the fighting rings where the warriors practiced each day. While on their mission, they find out more about the Utopia project which the colony ran. The colony is run by the wealthy, and they had various laws that the poor were forced to break, like if they were in debt or if they were evicted and dind’t have a place to live. The females that broke laws were given the choice to go to the Kadrixan settlement and help with the rut, or to join the Utopia project.

This was a good alien adventure romance. Forced proximity with a journey, which I love. I also loved that Vostak was a grouchy alien who had a low opinion of his own value and a strong female main character. This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott. Both of these narrators are good; they have nice voices and are expressive. Definitely voice actors, not just readers, which is a must as far as I am concerned. Wen Ross has a nice, deep voice that I really liked. They did a great job on this book and narrate this entire series.

Okay, so...the romance itself was fine, just kinda average, but I just CAN'T get behind the idea of "rutting".

Like...I don't need the hero and heroine to both be innocent virgins--although that would be nice--but there's a far step between having had partners in the past and them potentially being everyone around you.

And also, while the "mating bond" rule guarantees a 100% loyal demon guy, the same doesn't apply to human females. What happens if she falls for a guy she "rutted" with, but then another one wants a mating bond with her? That's just unnecessary complications that I say NO THANK YOU to.

So...yeah, nice try, but, um...that's it. *bows out*

Wow, this was so good! Vostak and Penelope were on a mission together, and even though he was certain that she was his mate, he didn't think he deserved one, so he denied the connection. While they were stuck together, their connection grew until neither of them could deny it. How would things go when the mission ended? I loved the journey these two took. Great read!.

This was another great book for the series and again, very well written. I loved the characters, Penelope and Vostak, and found them well-matched with fab chemistry. Told in dual POV, we get lots of emotions and humour to go with the action. Their quest led them on the journey to love but I have to say that I really enjoyed the fact that Penelope wasn't interested in a grudging effort by Vostak. He wanted her with enthusiasm, or he didn't get her ;P Priceless!

3.5 - This was cute. Some cringy parts and some tropes I’m not a fan of (I’m not worthy of a mate) but not terrible either.

This book was brilliant and the main characters had me on the edge while they tip toed around their attraction to each other. Penelope is a human that now lives with the Kodrixan warriors or Red Devils that came to help them out in the time of need called the Rut and she and other females choose to stay and are treat very well and while most days she writes her erotic romances she get her inspiration from Vostak as she and a few of the other females watch the warriors train but Penelope only has eyes for him but he doesn’t want a mate and has never came to her while in his rut but the others say he knows his way around a females body and they all left satisfied and this breaks her heart that he doesn’t want to be with her. Now they are being sent on a mission together to Utopia and finally get some answers as to what is going on inside and when the drones get through they are shocked by what they see and how they are being treated badly and being experimented on and when the drone was discovered they must flee and they make it to the forest but are taken in by the locals after they are being chased who they must now pretend to be mates so the males leave her alone but they think she is a spy and want to kill her but the temporary leader saves her from death. Sleeping in a treehouse together brings on the bond that makes them mates but the village is attacked and so they leave but when Vostak is poisoned she saves him and the hide in the forest canopy and while the fever infection increases he tells her why he doesn’t think he is worthy to have her as a mate. How does it all work out now that she knows the truth and can Vostak finally admit his true feelings for Penelope and build a nest for her or not. Loved this book.

The second book in the Kadrixan Mates series presents the fate of Vostak - a warrior who from the beginning swore that he is not looking for and does not want to have a mate, and Penelope, who has long dreamed that one of the warriors would recognize her as his one and only female. I liked the fact that this time we don't have to deal with instant recognition of a mate. Although Penelope is infatuated with Vostak, she has the impression that he doesn't like her because he usually avoids her like the plague, and if he must have any contact with her, he is usually grumpy. Things get even more complicated when the two are sent on a scouting mission.
Since this is the second part of the series, this time the author did not spend so much time introducing the reader to the created world, however, the narrative is conducted in such a way that a person who starts the adventure with the Kadrixan Mates series from this book will not feel lost. Although it is a romance, the story is full of adventure and danger, which makes it an interesting read. The characters are well drawn. I liked Penelope, who turned out to be a strong woman who knows what she wants. Vostak also proved intriguing. Thanks to the scouting mission of the main characters, we have the opportunity to learn some facts about the mysterious Utopia. I hope this thread will be developed more in the next part.
In my opinion, A Monster's Heart is worth attention, although I still wish the series was a bit darker.

Vostak is a Kadrixan Captain who believs that he lost his only chance to mate back on his planet. He had made a beautiful mating nest and chose the most beautiful woman in the village to take there. After his time to convince her to mate him was over, she refused to accept him. Vostak felt that proved he was a male unworthy of a mate. Now he spends his time doing his duty and avoiding any female who shows compatibilty with him. Too bad he is being sent on a mission with Penelope, a human woman who stirs some unwanted desires in him.

Penelope enjoys living in the settlement with the Kadrixan males. She wishes that she could find a mate who would do anything for her like her friends did. The problem is the only male who has caught her eye is Vostak who has sworn to never take a mate. She can't stop watching him though and uses him as inspiration for her erotic novels. Then information comes in that helps them find Utopia, a settlement that humans are kept prisoner in. Penelope had participated in a competition in school for a new fantasy community and it seems like ideas were taken to actually build Utopia. She is asked to go on a mission to spy out Utopia with Vostak, The mission is dangerous but the danger brings them closer together. She is afraid that she has fallen for the warrior who never wanted a mate.

Another great addition to the sci-fi romance series from Lynnea Lee.

The second book in the Kadrixan Mates series presents the fate of Vostak & Penelope (who we met previously in book 1).

These two met almost 2yrs ago... when she arrived at the Kadrixans' settlement. Every simce the first time Penelope saw Vostak, the grumpy warrior has been the star of her fantasies.

Vostak thought he did feel a slight mate pull towards her but he doesnt really want a mate (his chosen 'denied' him) so he denies connection and tries to avoid her at all cost.

When the 2 are sent on a secret mission togther, they get end up stuck together... in close approximity.. where Vostak cannot avoid or hide from her. As their time together passes, their connection grows and that 'involuntary' mating bond, he's been trying to supress, is triggered.

Vostak was a Captain before he was exiled with his fellow Kadrixan warriors. He doesn't believe he deserves a mate, isn't looking for one, and hasn't bothered to prepare a nest for one. He's determined to stay away from the one human who might tempt his mating bond.

Penelope has been with the Kadrixan's for three rutting seasons. After helping them through their annual rut, she decided to stay rather than return to the corrupt human colony, where she designed living spaces for the colony. Now she writes erotic alien romance novels and posts them for the human colonists enjoyment.

Every rut Penelope hopes a mating bond will be triggered, but it's been three years and she is losing hope. Vostak has worked hard to stay away from her but things are about to change. A scouting mission has them in close quarters and finds Vostak losing the battle with the mating bond. His struggles might just cost him Penelope because she's not interested in anything but a fully embraced mating.

I wanted to smack Vostak around for his bad behavior but really liked how Penelope didn't take his crap. I'm still a bit uncomfortable with the mating pheromones, but I thought the author handled it better in this book than the first.

This is the second book in this new series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, the first book creates a lot of world and character building. These are expanded on quite a bit with this book and I'm sure with the next as just how evil the elite really are and how far they will go to use workers/lower class people for whatever they want.

Penelope I believe was part of the first group of women and now helps new comers get acclimated. She once was an architect and gets swept up into a reconnaissance mission for the so called Utopia. Penelope is definitely not one to wait to be rescued nor afraid to be sassy.

Vostak has a back story that makes him believe he doesn't deserve or want a mate. He has become really good at pushing everyone away and being grumpy to Penelope who tempts him. Wait for it…loved the bit about Hardtack at the end, about peed my pants laughing. Can just imagine if Penelope includes it in one of her smutty books and the big bad Vostak's starts getting teased about his side love interest.

I have a feeling the third book is going to either be really dark going into how sadistic the true villains of the story can be. Hopefully if it starts out dark, it will lighten up quickly as it sure sounds like those that believed the utopia propaganda sure need it.

Our boy Vostak (Krxare's buddy) is up and he ABSOLTUELY DOES NOT WANT A MATE. Absolutely. No question. None. Then he gets paired with Penelope on a mission to find out more about Utopia and HA. All those mating feelings start making themselves known.

On Penelope's end, she more than likes Vostak and his scowls, but the big guy is standoffish enough that she only admires him from afar. Then they get forced into close proximity of the mission and it turns out he really IS as standoffish as she thought. But it's mostly because he's starting to get those mating feelings for Penelope and he doesn't want to deal with them.

Yeah, these two have things they need to hash out.

Having to pretend to be mated to keep Penelope safe kinda forces that hashing. And these two play pretend mates REALLY well. So well, in fact, that soon it's not pretend at all.

Some answers about what's going on in Utopia, forced proximity of the best kind, a chonky little critter, some quality time spent while on the run, a warrior who needs to deal with his past, and a lady who very much wants a future with her grump. GOOD STUFF!

Maybe it's just me but I have to say I always love the grumpy ones that little bit more. Oh well. Anyway Vostak made the wrong choice in his youth. He tried to force a mate bond where he knew that it would not grow. As a result his nest was rejected along with his very self. He took it to heart and vowed never to have a mate again. Yup, stereotypical grump. Thing is he is now pretty much convinced that a certain human female is his mate. He feels himself unworthy so has avoide her as much as he can. His actions have lead Penelope to think that he doesn't actually like her. She on the other hand, while she knows Vostak is not for her, cannot help but envisage him as the male in the stories that she writes. She wants a partner, a mate and all the romance and associated things that come with it, nests, possessiveness, all of it. She just needs to talk herself into letting it go with Vostak. Well that is until she ends up on a mission with him. She is not sure that her heart will survive it and it definitely won't help her notion of giving him up. Still it is for the good of the settlement. Who knows what might happen along the way!

Penelope and Vostak's Struggle . . .

Penelope has been living at the Kadrixan warrior base but has not found a mate yet, although she feels a definite interest in Vostak. Unfortunately, he does not feel deserving of a mate and intentionally avoids her so that a mating bond does not get triggered.

When they are ordered on a mission together, however, being in close proximity starts to have an effect on their desires. And it’s even more difficult when unexpected problems arise and they have to shelter together in a single stealth tent. All those pheromones are very difficult to ignore, especially when Penelope would gladly proceed to the mating! Would Vostak finally give in to his feelings for her? Or will he continue to try to fight against the bond as long as he can?

This story line will keep a smile on the reader’s face as you see the interaction between Penelope and Vostak as each tries to deal with their feelings for each other. The push and pull between them is very entertaining. Will nature take its course eventually? Grab your copy and see whether they eventually find their HEA.

4&1\2fabulous 🌟s for A Monster's Heart 💖💖🔥🔥

Penelope has been a part of the Kadrixan colony for awhile now. What she really wants is a mate. She's loved and lost before and what she wants is that e new of forever to know she belongs to one male and that that male belongs only to her. She's had her eye on Vostak but he's the one warrior that says he's not looking for a mate and doesn't want one. Vostak never believed her have the opportunity to have a mate once he was exiled. He made a horrible mistake in his youth and wasted his next on a female that did not appreciate or want him. When he's sent on a dangerous mission with the one human female that stirs his emotions Penelope. This mission is important to the safety of the new colony and both of these beings want nothing but a true sense of belonging , acceptance and love. Danger draws them c!over together emotions snap into place but the old insecurities surface and threaten their new found love. Awesome adventure !! Just finished a Monster's Heart and I believe you either like this form of writing or you don't. Similarly to the first book in the series this book isn't going to challenge your world view but it is a great low key read for a raining afternoon or a sunny day at the beach.
This second book in the series has a bit more action in it then the first with more emphasis on the actual couple highlighted. Unlike the first book she didn't need to spend as much time setting up the premise and introducing secondary characters because we have already seen them. This led to an opening to focus on these characters specifically. Personally I would have like a few flash back from Vosteck's previous nest since it played such a big role in his current decisions or Penelope life in the settlement and why exactly she was kicked out but overall it is a good book. A recommended read on your next day off.

Penelope has been at the Kadrixan stronghold for almost three years. She has adapted well and is writing alien romance novels to pass the time. She longs for a mate of her own but hasn’t found a warrior who wants to mate with her. The only one she is drawn to is grumpy Vostak, who seems to hate her and goes out of his way to avoid her!

Vostak is very drawn to Penelope but feels he doesn’t deserve a mate because of a bad experience in his past. He figures if he doesn’t have any contact with her the mating bond won’t get triggered.

When Vostak is ordered by his commander to take Penelope on a mission with him he figures he can keep from touching her for a couple of days. So they have to camp out and share a tent, what could possibly go wrong!

This was a great book with lots of action but also lots of laughter and emotions. Loved Penelope and Vostak!.

If you want some background on the Kadraxian's you will definitely want to read book 1 first before diving into this story.

I loved how A Monster's Heart almost felt like a different story from book 1. The drama and issues come from a different place. Penelope is living among the Kadraxian's. The endless parade of available males and none choosing her is getting old. The only one that catches her eye is Vostak and he is a self-professed bachelor. He has no interest in building a nest or ever claiming a mate. He feels his chance has past and is not worthy.

I loved how he is forced to face his past and future as they are forced to survive together. Proximity to her proves one thing, Vostak's mind is saying one thing, but his body is saying something else.

I loved how Vostak grows and learns what a nest really about.

Looking forward to more.

Great second book in the series!

Vostack was a serious warrior, and after being rejected, back before the crews were sent away for not following orders to do things that went against their morals as good males of consciousness. He vowed he didn't deserve to have a mate. He used the help of unclaimed human females to get him through the madness of the Rut, but felt nothing after that. Penelope has been attracted to Vostack, all along, but she never allowed herself to hope. She even hoped another male would fall to his knees and feel the mate bond for her. Two years and she still had rut dates, but as soon as it was over, there were no feelings on either side. There is a mission they have to go on together, to gather information, and evidence against the Evil Corporation that use people for experiments. Lots of things happen, and we do get a HEA ending, but it is hard earned.!

This is part of a series, but the book can be read as a standalone. I really like the world building for this series and the characters are rich and well-written.

Penelope has been living at the warrior compound for 2 years. Although she hasn't found her match, she has settled into a routine. She even started writing romance novels to share with the females at the human colony.

Even though it will do her no good, she has a soft spot for the former captain of the warriors. Too bad he is determined not to choose a mate.

They are both chosen to go on a mission where they are in close proximity. When the mission doesn't go well, they take refuge and they can no longer deny their feelings for each other.

Will the warrior accept her as his mate once they are back at the compound?.

Vostak (H), a grumpy Kadrixan warrior, maintains that he’s not interested in a mate, even as he finds himself keeping other warriors from approaching Penelope (h), a woman sent to service Kadrixan males during their rut but who opted to remain with the Kadrixans rather than returning to the human colony. Because of her training and knowledge, Penelope is sent on a mission with Vostak to scout out what’s happening at Utopia. The pair are in close contact with one another and Vostak worries that a mating bond may be forming between himself and Penelope. Plenty of ultra-hot and steamy sexy action - love Vostak’s change in accepting a mate and his attempts to win Penelope over. Lovely hot and steamy alien fated mates romance – can’t go wrong with an alien with wings, horns and a tail. Looking forward to more in the series and finding out more about the goings on at Utopia.

Grumpy Alien Mate!

Penelope has been living in the alien stronghold for a few years. She hasn’t found her mate and longs to find the one fated for her. The only warrior that draws her attention is Vostak, but he’s made it clear he doesn’t feel the same way. To pass the time and help her loneliness, she writes steamy romance books for the other women at the stronghold.

One day the commander orders Vostak to go on a mission and take Penelope with him. This causes some forced proximity and Vostak may seem uninterested, but he’s actually fighting the mating urge. That all changes when they have to spend some time together in close quarters.

Very fun story with a cute heroine and grumpy alpha male! The world building is done well and the story itself is intriguing. Overall, a very good story and series.

Sometimes denial can hurt worse than the truth.

I really liked this story a lot. It was entertaining and enjoyable although frustrating at times. The characters were interesting and likable. Vostak had decided that he wasn’t worthy of having a mate so he decided that he wouldn’t look for a mate. Not looking for a mate didn’t mean that he wouldn’t react if someone that was compatible was in proximity but Vostak was good at avoidance. Penelope was attracted to Vostak but she wanted a mate. Even knowing that he didn’t want a mate didn’t stop Penelope from fantasizing about him. When they were sent out on a mission together, things became complicated. There was some drama and angst but it resolved well. I loved their happily ever after. I recommend reading this book.

Stubborn Males!

I love a good story with stubborn males and forced close proximity. It's like having a mouse corner a tiger, it's hilarious and enticing. Normally I get irritated with how long spicy scenes can take to appear, and I don't always enjoy the story leading up to it, but I did! I loved the extra back stories and continuation of the planet's tale, but mostly I loved seeing the big grumpy brute put in his place and soften like butter. I also love how creative this author is. I often have to look up what certain words mean, which is a common author trait, but even reading other stories there were some unknown to me. Or, of course, I just forget them. I have a terrible memory, lol. Point being, it's a cute, fun, exciting story, with lots of emotions, romance, and intrigue. And, y'know, smexy aliens 😏

Vostak is determined that he will not have a mate. He tries to stay away from Penelope despite being drawn to her and is not happy when he is sent on a mission with Penelope. Penelope writes steamy short stories about Kadrixan warriors and their mates and thinks that Vostak is hot despite his obvious avoidance tactics. When their mission doesn't go according to plan Vostak will do whatever it takes to protect Penelope. I love this series. Penelope is funny and caring and you can feel Vostak desperately trying to avoid admitting his feelings for Penelope. There is intrigue, suspense and some steamy action. A great read and I look forward to the next in the series.

I have read all of lynnea's other stuff and though this is a nice enough read and it is a nice story this new world and set up is just not doing it for me at the moment. Not sure why, I will read the next few books to see if I can get into the world that Lynnea is currently building as her work is pretty good but for me this is not a brilliant blow me unputdownable story this was just a nice gentle enough read that kept me occupied for a couple of hours over a couple of days. I didn't even read it all in one hit which is my normal for a really good book. Don't be put off by my slightly lacklustre review just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean that it won't be for you as I said the story was sweet and there was a bit of spice to it but I don't think that this series is going to be my cup of tea.

Gotta love a hunky, stoic, warrior that’s in denial! Vostak keeps telling himself and everyone else that he doesn’t want a mate. So why can’t he keep his eyes off of Penelope? Penelope’s been crushing on Vostak almost since she’d gotten to the stronghold, but she didn’t think he even noticed her and he never comes near her, until they went on a mission together. And she knew he didn’t want a mate. Throw them together on a mission and see the sparks fly! Had a great time reading this, great character interaction with romantic missteps and hot and steamy sex as well as lots of action and adventure to make for a rollicking good time!.
