After being baptized in the blood rite of combat and spending more than a decade knee deep in gore, two events that cost him his marriage, Nathan Grant wanted to be as far away from civilization as he could be.
Then the world ended.
Faced with the harsh reality of a world now populated with psychotic cannibals, Grant did what he does best – stay at his remote cabin and drink a few beers while watching the world melt down. His way of thinking was let it happen as long as it happened far away from him.
However, fate had different plans.
Dropped into situations he preferred to avoid, the bitter, cynical, old soldier realizes people depend on him for survival. Not eager to take on that kind of responsibility and not willing to get involved, Grant wanted to ignore the world.
But duty and honor pulled him back.
Now, irritated to be involved in something that he wanted no part of yet driven to survive at all costs, he directs his anger towards those that deserve it – the infected.
When a man-made virus turns 99% of the world’s population into flesh-craving psychotics, who better to have on your side?
While I appreciated the story, I didn’t like how many biases shared by the author as fact. Just a little research on some of the statements showed they were, in fact, fake news put forth by conspiracy theorists and ultra conservatives. I don’t mind a little bending of reality, I mean I read zombie books, I still require some basis of truth or basic research to go into a book. This is why the world is so divided.
Good character development. Lots of action. I like humor thru out. A different spin I believe on the infected. Did not get into details about infected to much, might be a glitch for some. Ended to soon. Look forward to the next installment
This fast paced book kept me up at night. Grant is quite the character. Totally believable too. I have had the dubious pleasure of knowing a couple of people like that.
