Previously published in the anthology Kissing Under the Mistletoe, New York Times bestselling author Amelia Grey brings delicious, sexy romance to a hotel at the outskirts of town during Christmastime in the novella Christmas at Dewberry Hollow.
Miss Isabelle Reed has no plans to ever fall in love. She has a perfectly acceptable life with her mother at the Dewberry Hollow Inn, thank you very much. But when Gate, the Duke of Notsgrave’s grandson, appears at Dewberry Hollow searching for a carving on a tree, Isabelle cannot help but get involved. But Gate’s charm and their instant attraction makes Isabelle question if she’s willing to take her chance at love once again.
Amelia Grey (aka Gloria Dale Skinner) grew up in a small town in the Florida Panhandle. She has been happily married to her high school sweetheart for over twenty-five years. She has lived in Alabama, Connecticut, New Hampshire and now lives in Florida.
Amelia has won the coveted Romantic Times award for Love and Laughter, the prestigious Maggie award for best historical and Affaire de Coeur's best American historical award. She has been a finalist for the Golden Heart and the Holt Medallion awards which are given by Romance Writers of America and numerous other awards. Her books have been sold to many countries in Europe, Russia and China.
Amelia likes flowers, candlelight, sweet smiles, gentle laughter and sunshine.
Honestly, the Christmas vibes weren’t even good😭 the romance was also boring and purely lust based. The fmc says she’s not going to ever get married and fall in love and even rejects the advances of the mmc. But like the next chapter she’s kissing him for literally NO reason💀 like there should’ve been an event or something that let her realize it’s okay to act on her feelings bc otherwise it just felt sooo random lol. Also, I personally wasn’t a fan of the writing style.
Isabelle (the granddaughter of a viscount) helps her mother run an inn. The inn belonged to her father and has a long storied history. Funds are tight and a duke's visit is welcomed. Isabelle helps where she can and teaches village girls to read. While she is out trying to hunt a deer, she meets Gate. Isabelle accidentally shoots one of Gate's guardsmen. Luckily, he will be fine. This was well paced and had enjoyable characters. I could see them together and I liked that Gate was the one to move.
Decidedly average. Writing was mediocre, full of repetition. Characters nothing special. The relationship was insta-love at its finest. The author did try to added some depth to it but it really wasn’t successful. Not worth the read, even if it is short and quick. Plenty of better reads out there.
Isabelle and her mother run an upscale inn for gentry staying in the country. John Gatestone is the grandson of a duke who has come to help find the tree the duke marked almost 20 years prior. (Carved with his initials and those of his lately deceased wife).
