All Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

I love Amanda Prowse's books! This is my sixth book by the author and every single one was a four or five star read. All Good Things is no exception, I adored this book and the two families in it. The mix of characters was realistic and relatable...There were some I loved and some I loved to hate. This is a book about the haves and the have-nots and questions the old adage...Is the grass really greener on the other side of the fence?

I love stories about dysfunctional families, especially one that isn't my own! This book is about how all hell breaks loose one evening and what the repercussions are for each member of the two families, following the incidents. I liked how each chapter is from a different character's point of view. Because there are so many people in the two families the story is about this was a great way to get inside each character's head and know their thoughts and feelings about everything that is going on.

There are a lot of heavy topics throughout the chapters. Teenage drinking, divorce, familial expectations, mental health issues, bankruptcy, marital affairs and LGBTIQA to name but a few. Amanda Prowse deals with these issues in a realistic way while remaining sensitive to them. I really appreciate and respect that. I can say enough about this wonderful family tale except to end with...All. The. Stars.

Amanda Prowse is the author of 29 novels, and she has COUNTLESS fans, so when I had the opportunity to read her latest book, I figured “why not?”

This book centers on an evening at the Italian restaurant where young Daisy Harrop works.

Her next door neighbors, the Kelleways will be celebrating Matriarch Winnie and Patriarch Bernie’s golden anniversary at the restaurant, with their children and grandchildren in tow. (One just happens to be Cassian Kelleway, who Daisy has a huge crush on)

But, over the course of the evening, the “perfect facade” of her neighbors will crumble, as bombshells are dropped from the POV’s of about 9 different characters-members of both the Harrop and Kelleway families.

LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING

Daisy will learn that nobody is perfect, not even the Kelleways, and not everything is as it appears to be. And, a few people may surprise her.

The book moves quickly, and isn’t hard to follow but the I found the writing to have an “old fashioned “ feel rather than a contemporary one, despite many issues RELEVANT in today’s world.

It just didn’t resonate with me, for this reason.

But, if you are a fan of the author, I am sure it will be another winner for you, based on the other reviews, I have read.

EXCERPT: He seemed to particularly obsess over their ostentatious barbecue sitting under a wooden bandstand structure that was artfully strung with fairy lights, and from where the tinkle of glassware, the subtle rise of communal laughter and the waft of good meat filtered over the fence and through their windows. He disliked it all.
Of course, he didn't dislike any of it, not really. What he disliked was living in his deceased mother-in-law's house with his wife, Lisa, son Jake and her, Daisy, watching helplessly as the roof leaked, the fence rotted, weeds popped up between the cracks of the uneven crazy paving and the kitchen clock ticked even louder.

ABOUT 'ALL GOOD THINGS': Daisy Harrop has always felt like she exists in the background, and since her mother stopped getting out of bed, her life has come to a complete standstill. Daisy would give anything to leave the shabbiest house on the street and be more like the golden Kelleways next door, with their perfectly raked driveway and flourishing rose garden…

Winnie Kelleway is proud of the beautiful family she’s built. They’ve had their ups and downs—hasn’t everyone? But this weekend, celebrating her golden wedding anniversary is truly proof of their happiness, a joyful gathering for all the neighbours to see. But as the festivities get underway, are the cracks in the ‘perfect’ Kelleway life beginning to show? As one bombshell revelation leads to another and events start to spiral out of control, Daisy and Winnie are about to discover that things aren’t always what they seem.

MY THOUGHTS: I can't believe I have dnf'd a book by Amanda Prowse at 48%. I have loved everything else I have read by this author. I thought the premise of All Good Things sounded great, especially in Prowse's capable hands, but I HATED it. I was bored beyond belief by both the characters (except Daisy) and the writing, and I could not stand the thought of reading one more word. What more can I say?

Daisy was told.. to just hold tight.. that all good things come to those who wait… 😉… EXCEPT she doesn’t believe them. 🤷‍♀️Her mother is battling depression… and well… it’s very hard for Daisy to deal with how it is changing the dynamics of her family…the boy she adores… doesn’t seem to know she exists… 😩…to top it off the family next door… is PERFECT! Let’s talk about the family next door… 😉

Meet the Kelleways… the “perfect “ family…they always are invited to the best parties… they have expensive cars 🚘… they seem SO in love 🥰 with each other… and and they are uber rich! 💰 💰💰 They flaunt money like it’s going out of style… Daisy wishes she was lucky 🍀 enough to be a part of THAT family. … be careful what you wish for girl… 😬…

This book was packed full of family drama! It’s a book with a bit of everything in.. LIFE…. coming of age… discovering your true self… secrets..🤫… lies… just remember… things aren’t always they appear. 😉

Looking forward to reading more by this author!

An incredibly slow build-up (took easily 90% of the book) to develop these characters, and when it was finally getting going, the book just finished. It was like the author got bored in the last chapter and decided to quickly wrap it all up. Wouldn't really recommend it.. Super average.

What the actual heck did I just read? This was the biggest waste of time ever. Jumping from person to person I felt no emotional attachment to any of the characters. Did no one tell this author that a book needs a swell and a climax? This was just a poorly written observation of a family or two.

Seriously. I don't even know what I could possibly spoil in this book because there was no plot. I get it, it's supposed to show off a rich family whose life is imperfect and a poor family who has secret wealth. Blah blah blah.

Why do I care though? Literally I kept reading waiting for ANYTHING to happen. Some sort of hook. Then when I was 50% through and still nothing, I kept reading just to write an honest review of how horrid it was. Boring. Meaningless. Stupid.

Daisy is a teenager working part time in an Italian Restaurant and looking for a better life.
She is envious of her next door neighbours lifestyle and has a crush on their teenage son but not everything in that family is as it appears to the outside world.
Some interesting characters in this book about dysfunctional families.

This is a good read with family very much at it’s centre.
We learn about the lives of two families who are neighbours but live very differently.
Daisy is concerned about her Mum who has not left the house for years due to depression.
The Kelleways seem to have everything but there’s some dark secrets hiding under the surface.
With an anniversary dinner being the catalyst for things starting to go wrong we see how each family deals with it.
This is a good read but didn’t quite have the emotional kick that I’m used to with Amanda Prowse.

Depending how you look at this after you have read the book, maybe the grass is greener on the other side. Again, Prowse does not disappoint. When you open a book and can't put it down you have a winner in my opinion.
4 stars and one you will enjoy until the very end.

This is the story of two families that live next door to each other but love completely different lives. The Kelleways are all flash and posh and the story is focused on the weekend of their fortieth anniversary. They’re having a big fancy party, as everyone would expect, at the restaurant where Daisy, who lives next door, works. Daisy happens to have a crush on the grandson of the anniversary couple so she doesn’t want to work the party, but of course she has to because she needs the money. Daisy and her family don’t have the luxuries that the Kelleways do, so Daisy does her part to help out. Daisy’s mom is depressed, so she doesn’t come out of her room often, and her brother seems to lack the confidence of the typical teenage boy. Her father works hard to keep them afloat so when he’s home he’s tired, and his only respite is hoping and praying for the day when his wife will feel better and their life will resume again.
Soon we start to see the cracks in both families start showing and they are more intertwined than one would expect. Daisy soon learns that not all that’s shiny is gold. And they all learn that not everything is as it appears to be.
A semi interesting look at dysfunctional families.

There was so much hype around this book, I was really intrigued and excited to read.
However I was left really disappointed!
I just got super lost at the beginning of this book with the amount of characters, and then just couldn't keep up. I just didn't 'get it' - it didn't really go anywhere, and it just kept reiterating the same point, going round in circles.

I am a firm Amanda Prowse fan and have read all her books.
All Good Things was every bit as good as all her other ones, with a difference.
I feel it was a different way of storytelling from her usual.
This time, the whole story revolves around the happenings of one evening and the fallout the morning after.
Daisy lives in a neglected house with her depressed mother, hermit brother and a father she doesn't see much as he is out working when she is home.
She's embarrassed about how they live, considering the area. And she craves the life of the Kellaways: The neighbours who seem to have everything she craves.
They are a tight-knit family with a successful business funding a glittering lifestyle. Winnie and Bernie, the couple living there, are glossy and filled with the joys of having everything they want. Their children are settled happily, and the grandchildren are the perfect addition to a picture-perfect family. Especially Cassius, the grandson, who has a special place in Daisy's mind and heart. However, he doesn't know it.
A chance evening spent with them all, celebrating a key moment in their lives, makes her wish to be a part of their lives even more.
The thing is, there is nothing truer than this adage: The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
All Good Things demonstrates this perfectly.
We, as readers, get to experience the same situation from the eyes of all the characters. I won't say one is the main, as they are all important in their way.
I loved peering into the minds of everyone, and I felt a mixture of sadness and relief for Daisy as she comes to terms with the fact that life really isn't perfect for anyone.\
There are characters who I rooted for, applauding the backbones they displayed as the story unfolded and frustrated at the ones who were unable to change, despite everything that was happening.
It was a fantastic book, and I highly recommend it!

I finished this one last night and I'm still a little uncertain how I'm feeling about it... This book follows the Kelleway family and their next door neighbors the Harrops as they proceed through one evening and into the next day. This book is entirely relationship based - although a baby is born, a marriage ends, and there are a few other events, it feels like nothing happens. I kept reading as I wanted to see how things would turn out or resolve, and I have to say I was disappointed in the way the book abruptly ended. Maybe the author was just trying to capture the natural flow of life and that things continue on even after our story wraps up? There is a lot of drama introduced and then not really followed through. The book is well written and the characters are very well developed. I just wasn't really sure I was sympathetic toward any of them and didn't feel any strong connections.

It’s going to be a challenge to review this book without risking any spoilers, but I will do my best. This is a mighty book that covers the scale of a large family and their neighbours. Winnie Kelleway, the family’s matriarch has ruled the family home with a persona that reminded me of Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet if you’re old enough to remember the series). Focused totally on keeping up appearances and praising her children and grandchildren, she believes that she’s somewhat better than everyone else. Her son, Lawrence, and his wife and children have returned from Australia and started over in a beautiful home in a prestigious part of town. His children, Cassian and Domino are both gorgeous, but they also have secrets that would possibly throw the family’s life into turmoil. Lawrence’s wife, Julie intuitively knows that there are secrets waiting to come to light.
Lawrence’s sister, Cleo, has married an ordinary but reliable man, George. She dreams of getting away from the suffocating effect of her close-knit family. She’s not interested in keeping up with anyone and wishes that her family would see George for the wonderful man that he is. Now pregnant, Cleo is determined to avoid her child being dragged into the family drama.
Next door to Winnie, we meet Daisy and her family. Daisy is harbouring a massive crush on Cassian. Daisy doesn’t live the charmed life of her neighbours, in fact, her mother is fighting with mental health issues that have left her completely housebound. Waiting tables at the local Italian restaurant leads to a massive tip from Lawrence, that acts as a catalyst for a tear in the very fabric of her neighbour’s lives.
Once again, I knew that I was in for a treat, and Amanda Prowse delivered a story that had many trails that all looped back to the central characters. I was pulled right into their worlds and felt joy and pain for each of the characters. Well, not for each of them as a few were almost impossible to like.
I did have favourites and found myself absolutely in Julie’s camp. Her character was perfectly developed to the degree that I would love to read another book that picked up her story. I guess, that’s one of the joys of reading; I was able to imagine her future and can confirm that she goes on to great things.
Another favourite was Cassian, his gentle nature was an absolute joy to Winnie, but she never actually saw the real man under the fairytale that she had spun around his life. I certainly said a very loud YES! As his true self came to the fore.
I absolutely loved this thought-provoking book and can highly recommend it, but buckle up, it’s not a smooth ride.

“All Good Things” by Amanda Prowse is a captivating and thought-provoking novel. This well-written and amazing story revolves around the concept that “The grass is greener on the other side of the fence,” The author vividly describes her dramatic characters as complex, complicated, quirky, and dysfunctional. Have you ever envied a neighbor or family near you and wished you were part of that group? This reminds me of when my son was very young, and he was upset with the rules in our home. I told him, “Do you think you could find Another Family that loves you more than us?” My 6-year-old answered a neighbor’s name, who lived a few houses away. That didn’t happen, but he thought that everything was wonderful there.

Daisy Harrop wishes she could be part of the Kelleway family, who are wealthy, and have a beautiful home with roses and flowers everywhere. Daisy’s mom is depressed, and her house looks run-down and shabby. Daisy Harrop works as a waitress at the restaurant that The Kelleways take to celebrate the elder’s golden anniversary. As she watches and listens to what is happening, she envies them.

If only Daisy could have a magical mirror to see what is realistically happening with the Kelleway family, she would be surprised. Both families would be shocked to know that surface appearances sometimes don’t reflect the true circumstances.

I love how Amanda Prowse discusses the importance of honesty, communication, family, friends, love, and hope. I would highly recommend this memorable and heartfelt novel to others.

Is the grass always greener on the other side of the fence? Daisy has a rough home life after her mother’s depression has affected the whole family. She remembers when her mom was fun and vivacious, but she’s become mostly reclusive. She dreams of the neighbors family who is always laughing and has parties and events.

Winnie has it all by appearances, but can money buy you happiness? She’s sharing 40 years of marriage with her husband and her family has a big party to celebrate. Daisy is working at the Italian restaurant where the party takes place and as the wine flows and the night moves on, major family secrets come tumbling out. Daisy gets a good reminder to not judge a book by its cover or a family from its facade.

The story is told by several points of view which really added to the story. Since each person has their own perception, I thought this was a good way to understand what has happened previously. Many different topics are such depression, infidelity, LGBTQ, divorce and financial matters are brought up.

All Good Things is the first book I've read by Amanda Prowse but she's a popular writer and has been described as the queen of family drama so I'm in to read it!

Daisy has admired the family next door and always compared her family and house to the golden Kelleway family. As the Kelleway family gathers to celebrate Winnie & Bernie's 40th anniversary at the restaurant where Daisy works the cracks in their "perfect" life start to show and it's a weekend the family won't forget.

I found the writing entertaining and I really liked all of the different characters' points of view once I got to know them. It took a little bit to keep everyone straight but it was worth it. I liked seeing Daisy's outsider perspective. This book truly is a grass isn't always greener!

If you like complicated families you'll enjoy All Good Things.

This is the story about two families who are neighbours: the Harrop family, whose lives are impacted by the mother's depression and the father's lack of interest in the state of the dilapidated house, and the Kelleway family, who are wealthy and seem to have a perfect life. But nobody is perfect! Each chapter follows a different character as they navigate their life, and we are gradually aware of life imploding for the Kelleway's.
I was fond of many of the characters, who were well-written and likeable. The unlikeable ones, I felt, did not get their just desserts in the denouement, especially Winnie Kelleway, who irritated me with her need for perfection and for the entire world to see what a perfect life and family she had - little did she know!
This is my first novel by Amanda Prowse, but I will certainly be reading more of her books in the future!

TITLE: ALL GOOD THINGS
AUTHOR: Amanda Prowse
PUB DATE: 08.15.2023 Now Available

ALL GOOD THINGS by Amanda Prowse is an engaging and bingeable family drama story told in multiple POVs about the perfectly beautiful Kelleway family and Daisy Harrop’s admiration of the family. Daisy’s life is far from perfect especially when compared against the Kelleways.

I really admire the way Prowse wrote the story - the slow reveal by peeling the layers - revealing the ugly truth on the realities that, we all have burdens and no one’s life is truly perfect no matter what the exterior may show.

Another fantastic book from Amanda Prowse!

Amanda Prowse is one of my favourite authors, and I eagerly await any new books from her. All Good Things was another winner for me.

The story centres around two families who on the surface appear to be opposites. Daisy lives a humble life with her family in a rundown home. Her mother is depressed and her brother and father are distant. She yearns for a life like her neighbours the Callaways. They seem to have it all, a picture perfect family.

As the story unfolds we get a glimpse into both families lives and the life events and secrets that have shaped them .

This book spoke to me, we all live in a social media world one which can make us feel self critical and inadequate. The reality of life can be totally different when we scratch the surface of the perfect life.

This book give me a multitude of emotions. It made me think and realise sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side, and maybe we just need to appreciate what we have!

Amanda has done it again , her talent and empathy shines through her books, a beautiful thought provoking 5 star read .

It’s been a while since I’ve written a review but I feel if I can save just one person from this, I’ll have done some good.

First of all, I listened to this on audible rather than reading in print and I think that is the only reason I managed to finish it. The narrator’s voice (who I think is the author) is incredibly soothing which made it easier to get through. But that, a long with Cassian, is the only thing I found redeemable here. When the book ended, I actually questioned: ‘what was the point?’ The author carefully crafts these families with interweaving lives but does absolutely nothing climactic with them.
Cleo: decides enough is enough and she’s going to move to Devon but just sits there quietly and ensures her family.
Julie: decides she’s leaving her husband and announces is it like she’s telling people what she’s having for her tea.
Cassian: (the only really likeable character in this book) only comes out as gay to his mum.
Jake: reveals he’s seeing the son of the man his mum had an affair with - nobody is particularly upset or bothered by this.
Bernie: has a 7 year long affair that just ends and he gets to come home to prune his rose bush.
Domino: faces absolutely no consequences for her drunken behaviour and still continues to be praised.
Loz: the second most atrocious character in this book, has absolutely nothing truly horrendous happen to him apart from having his Mercedes repossessed.
Winnie: the first most atrocious character has absolutely no public comeuppance for her reprehensible behaviour.

Overall, a boring read with only one likeable character and absolutely no satisfaction with the ending.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

While it initially took me a bit to get into this one (mostly due to keeping characters straight) by the time I was about 1/3 in- I was INHALING this story. Besides multiple flashbacks, All Good Things spans over 48 hours. And in true Amanda Prowse fashion, she manages to keep the story character driven when there are so many outside forces at play. Every single character is so layered and deeply flawed that its hard not to hope for “all good things” in their individual outcomes. Also- there is a bombshell that is exposed towards the end of the story which BLEW MY MIND. Bravo Ms. Prowse- I did not see that coming! My only complaint- I just wanted more time with these families, but that is just me being selfish.
