After the defeat of the Ogre King, all is well in Varglade. More elves join our settlement by the day, and it’s quickly becoming a town worthy of its people.
But when the strange elf woman I had seen in the crystal ball appears in my dreams, I realize that this peace can only go on for so long.
No doubt the Ogre King was merely the foretaste of worse things to come. If I’m going to protect the elven settlement I’ve grown to love, I will need to acquire more magic.
And there’s only one way an amalgamage like me can do that…
I was truly stuck on what to rate this book… I decided on a 4… it was between a 3 and a 4 so I ranked on the higher side because I like king in general and the series hasn’t been too horrible. Sighs, I just can’t get fully behind Jake as a MC… I don’t think he’s proactive enough as the lead MC, I also think his ‘harem” has fallen by the wayside. It’s like he has a single romp or two with them and they’re forgotten. He may have a conversation or two with them but then that’s it. No other deeper feelings or commitment. Just hey, let’s “commune” to swap powers and that’s it. I’m guessing Jake will absorb the pieces of the signet to win the day in the last book and that’s why he hasn’t touched them or even though of them even when all appeared to be lost I figured he would have turned to the stones. After all one piece recharged and invigorated him during his first fight when he met the dark elves that he went into a battle clearly exhausted and mentally and physically wiped of magic to the point he was delirious and falling over. He didn’t even pull the stones out for a pick me up. So I figured this is kings way of making us forget about it until the last book and he’ll absorb them or do something dramatic with them when he fights chossara. 🤷🏽♂️. Also, no more sundance… when he left the sun elves stronghold he didn’t even say bye to sundance. He jumped on the nimbus with Ava and left sundance behind… when the storm elves arrived they didn’t even mention his friend and mount. During that fight he wasn’t mentioned either. Sooooo 🤷🏽♂️🙈. There’s so much more tactically Jake can be doing, he’s just not… also in combat he’s still a one trick pony. He did all of that practice mixing dual, triple and quad magic spells.. but doesn’t utilise them… he did those traps, yet didn’t use them when he had all of that time to set traps for the infernal army. As I sit here I’m rethinking that 4 I gave this book. He kind of deserves that 3. Let’s remedy that shall we? Onward lads
This is a very good example of Kings ability to get you to enjoy the storyline. It's amazing that he can keep the story from getting old. The truth about tools is on point, whether edged or not. There will always be evil in this or any other world so never let your guard down. Waiting for next book.
Once again I must toil and wait for the next book to come out in a great series. This one was great. Well written, great battle, great dialogue, just overall well done. Not I sit here waiting for the notification that 5 is out.
This author amazes me on how he comes up with this storyline. I have enjoyed several books by him. They all hold your interest until the end. Now I have to wait for the next one to come out.
