A Must Read for Anyone Going for a Walk in the Woods
This is a must have survival handbook for anyone going for a short walk or days long hike into the wilderness. I wish I had known these tips on bushcraft before I took a short walk in the woods with my dogs. What was scheduled to be an hour long walk along a marked trail ended up lasting more than 4 hours. I found my way back to civilization by shear luck. Thank you Jason Knight for this comprehensive guide. I will definitely keep it handy.
Excellent comprehensive book on survival skills that are simple to follow, covering all the necessities that might arise in an emergency situation. The skills are also incredibly valuable to know for anyone who does wilderness camping, and is a great resource for review even for those who are avid wilderness explorers. I think that everyone should have a copy.. you never know when an emergency might arise!
"From early classes taught to the very young child to the most advanced classes these wilderness skills can be either broken down or expanded on. A very valuable book to learn and teach from. Enjoyable, invaluable reading, well done!" -Cathy Karlsen, former Montessori Guide with an outdoor element.
Full disclosure I received an electronic ARC of “Essential Skills of Wilderness Survival” so there might be changes in the new version. Further disclosure, I took the Alderleaf intro course.
This is a really nice little book that discusses the main priorities if you are in a survival situation. Should this be your only source no, plus not many expect to be in a sudden survival situation either.
One thing I didn’t really understand is why they placed water before fire in this book despite fire being important if you need to boil water. Plus hypothermia will tend to kill you before lack of water and so it should be reversed.
