They're Lying: The Media, The Left, and The Death of George Floyd

Rate this book
The book the media and the Left don’t want you to read...

Award-winning investigative journalist Liz Collin sets the record straight. She uncovers what really happened on a street in Minneapolis that set off the riots, the demands to defund the police, and the skyrocketing crime across the country. Based on conversations with those who were there—including Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, and other Minneapolis police officers who’ve never spoken out before—Liz exposes how the media and the Left manipulated the facts to dupe and divide America.

In between, she explains how her life was turned upside down. Liz was a familiar face on the news in the Twin Cities. Her husband, Lt. Bob Kroll, president of the Minneapolis police union, was personally blamed for the rioting by Mayor Jacob Frey, the ACLU, and so many others. Liz and Bob were attacked by social media mobs and cancel-culture vultures. Amid all the chaos, she watched so-called civil-rights leaders, politicians, and activists protest on her front lawn.

This book also reveals some of the cover-ups, collusion, and hidden political connections in Minneapolis. It points out those who turned Minnesota nice into Minnesota naïve—and the “leaders” who could have stopped the insanity and given civility a chance. But most of all, it tells the truth about how the media and the Left have been lying to us all...

Must read this if you were on the fence…

I, like millions of Americans, was tricked. At first I saw the same footage you saw and thought “that officer killed that man.” Part of me always questioned the narrative, and after observing that Soviet-esque show trial in Minnesota on TV, I began to question the whole narrative. This book blows that narrative wide open. People… we were lied to. I believe that the liars have yet to be held accountable. Get this book for your politically moderate friends that were on the fence like I was.

Very well written. It was nice to see proof of the many of the things I suspected.

Part of my heart was working at the 3rd precinct during those days, so it was hard for me to hear some of the details of exactly what happened. I also hope that it opens people's eyes so that our officers are safe on their job.

Liz does a great job of researching and explaining the lies, cancel culture, etc.

The one thing I might not agree with is Derek Chauvin. I really don't believe he should have been charged with murder. I believe Floyd would have died either way because of the drugs in his system. I do believe that Chauvin went too far. He really did seem like a person with power and control issues. With that being said, those officers did not deserve to be used as a scape goat.

Thank you Liz for your hard work in this book.

This is going to be a very important book in history. Liz Collin captures the historiography of the death of George Floyd and the subsequent political gamesmanship brilliantly.

At the time, Collin worked for WCCO TV and her husband, Bob Kroll, was the president of the Minneapolis Police Federation. Shortly after Floyd's death, both of them would unknowingly become part of the story.

This is their story about the lying and deception by the Democrats running Minneapolis City Government, the Democrats at the top levels of the Minneapolis Police Department, the Democrat Governor and a rogue Democrat state representative, and how they lose objectivity in search of their desired outcomes.

This is an important book as she lays out the events and fills in some of the gaps that we don't see in the "Official" record. She also uses media sources to lay out the case for bias on behalf of several of the participants - namely Attorney General Keith Ellison's anti-cop bias; Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman's interaction with AG Ellison over the years; and shows the overt bias by Judge Cahill, who oversaw the Derek Chauvin trial. It is this contextual background that historians will find useful long into the future. Her work is documented with hundreds of sources that are a matter of public record.

Be on the right side of history and read this book.

Thank you Liz for speaking out. I have always enjoyed your stories and your honesty. Thank you for confirming what my gut said all along. I refused to watch the viral video...waiting for more evidence, waiting to see what happened BEFORE this particular camera started rolling. And when that didn't happen, I knew this was all BS and some political agenda. Disgusting!

I think WHEN people actually wake up and see how we are all being duped, they will be mad. BUT will they ever wake up? Seems easier to pretend everything is fine until it happens to them. Come on people, have you no gut instinct?! Does this smell right to you?! Can you not connect the dots from one disaster to another that we are all facing today?! Are you OK with being taken advantage of?! Smh.

I'm so tired of this ridiculous, lawless, crime filled environment we live in. Last week when people had the chance to change, they didn't. WTH?! Apparently the people ARE ok with being taken advantage of and not using their voice.

I'm a mom so will continue to fight the good fight as my kids are worth it (and God knows they are not learning truth from evil in school). Stay strong Liz and keep sharing the TRUTH! Peace and Love. ✌️SB

This was very eye opening and saddening that the guys in blue were made the fall guys. Truth was pushed aside. Liz goes through the events questioning outcomes and backs up with documentation that is irrefutable. Very well written.

They lied but Liz Collin does not

The sad horrible truth is laid out in this book. Hopefully this will help people know of the real truth of this stain on Minnesota.

As someone who has been somewhat “in the know” during all of this - I cannot believe what I didn’t know. The non existence of leaders in MPLS and being called out is needed. I had no idea prosecution could skew things THAT bad. I hope if others want justice (Chauvin certainly didn’t get it) they can see what needs some reforming. It absolutely broke my heart when I found out Thomas Lane only pled as he didn’t want to go through what Chauvin did and wants to be in his newborns life sooner than later. The end of the book truly made me mad. But thank you, Liz Collin’s, for bringing everything to light.

If you can’t endure brutal honesty, skip my review. If you can’t accept anything other than your own narratives, move on. No need to read this review.

Ethical and honest journalism is dead except for brave journalists like Liz Collin, former tv anchor at WCCO. Liz, married to Bob Kroll, long time Minneapolis police officer and union representative for MInneapolis Police Department, attempted to share honest perspectives and facts from those closest to it all; the MPD men and women on the street in the George Floyd 2020 incident, the arresting officer in 2019 felony, subsequent riots and trial games and tricks led by AG Ellison - all that had gone unheard. For that, she was relieved of her WCCO job. Later, Liz and her family were put at risk with death threats, angry and violent protesting at their home.

In They’re Lying, Liz shares well-documented facts from behind the scenes that were blatant missteps and violations, ruled-by-the-mob actions and political decisions hidden from the public to create a narrative suitable to Governor Walz, Mayor Frey, Police Chief Arradondo, Judge Cahill and Attorney General Ellison. What was on the body cam footage and it’s relevance that was kept under wrap? A clue-it did not support the narrative. Why was due process not invoked for the MPD officers? Why was the narrative built off of one bystander video and not the body cam video, the autopsy, toxicology report, etc. What was found in the car? Where did his partner in crime go and why was he not charged? What was the exact technique used by the police officers? What connections does Attorney General Ellison have to several gangs in Minneapolis and why was this relevant but not disclosed?

Let’s be honest. George Floyd was a criminal. He is no longer on the street endangering others. Did anyone want him to die -a death likely from the fentanyl and meth in his system and his arrest resistance? No. Where were his friends and family when George was druggin’ and thuggin’ pistol whipping women, holding a gun to an unborn child, getting arrested for a drug felony, robbery and counterfeiting?

There is just so much wrong with how this incident and how others were handled and reported. Liz brings an even bigger story to light. This lying and deceit has become the “norm” in our America. We must let truth be heard.

Footnote: Liz has well-documented her sources. On some pages, you will find more citations to sources than content.

As a lawyer, I was interested in reading an objective account of the criminal trial of Derek Chauvin. Hoping to find a factual account of the arrest, George Floyd's death, and Chauvin's prosecution stripped of media and political bias, I turned to this book. It does not provide such an account. The author is hopelessly biased against the media, Floyd, and the prosecution. This may be for a good reason. She and her husband were the targets of media and political accusations of racism that seem to have been unfair, but that experience clearly poisoned her well on the subject of her book. In addition, she doesn't understand the legal proceedings. For example, she spends chapters attacking the judge's jury instructions as biased when most lawyers could have told her they were drawn from standard form instructions used in most criminal jury trials. They're intended to curb jury bias, not promote it. The book is also confusing and poorly written. The author fails to provide a comprehensive statement of the record of what happened the day of the arrest in a timeline that would give the events clarity, but rather assumes the reader knows what she knows, sets forth the events in jumbled chronology, replete with repetitive accusations she doesn't support with a factual analysis. This book is not helpful in understanding what happened that day or afterwards.

Anyone with half a brain knew that this whole story stunk to high heaven and it was of absolutely no surprise to me that literally everything the corrupt media blathered on about the sainted criminal Floyd was complete and utter bullshit. Since this author has the inside scoop, I found the details too compelling. Of course they lied, of course democrat politicians want to stoke racial fires (literally in this case) and of course four innocent police men are sitting in prison right now. George fucking Floyd deserves to be exhumed and killed again. What a disgusting human. I encourage everyone to read this book and learn how fucked up Minneapolis government is from the police chief all the way to the governor.

The autopsy shows he had no bruises on his back, no asphyxiation and died of drugs and heart attack. Also, the officers were doing exactly what they were trained to do and the higher ups changed the training manual immediately after incident so they could say this wasn’t what they were trained to do. But perhaps the most disturbing part is the kangaroo court led by Keith Ellison (racists) and the fact that they listed every expert (over 300) on the prosecution witness list and then didn’t use them just so the defense couldn’t have their own experts to testify. Sounds like a good reason for appeal to me. My blood boils at this whole thing.

Those four cops never stood a chance to a fair trial.

Liz Collins does a fantastic job citing all her various sources. Her goal is to give the whole picture and not just a single viewpoint.

Recommend this one for sure! You may just want to have a lighter read (tone wise) ready to go after finishing.

This is an important, must read for anyone. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the oversights throughout this whole process. I’m a firm believer that there is more than one side to every story, and I will admit that the sides presented in this book were not something I ever thought about actually existing … because I never saw it shared on social media or heard it on the evening news.

Liz does a great job of presenting timelines, sources, asking questions and then trying to answer them with facts and logic.

Her situation was bad no doubt. However, the writing was not that good. If I wasn't familiar with the Floyd tragedy, I would have quit part way through. I was sick of the blame she laid everywhere except on the offending policeman.

If you only read one book this year. Make this book that book! You will not regret it

What a powerful read. I’m speechless. It’s taken me a day or two to process it all before I came to write this review.

The book is very well written. I had seen the videos of GF’s arrest. I didn’t see what so many people claimed to see. I new he’s had a heart attack or fentanyl overdose. But what transpired after that no one could have predicted.

I watched the Chauvin trial. Was so sure he would be found not guilty. But being in the UK wasn’t aware of all the behind the scenes cover up going on. It’s unbelievable that this has been allowed to effect so many lives in this day and age.

The time and research that has gone into this book is tremendous. It’s fantastic Liz was brave enough to take this on. Everyone needs to read this book. It’s so powerful I read it. But was so dumbstruck I had to read for a second time to take it all in. To stop myself doubting that I had read what I’d read.

GF was a dirty low life criminal. This world is a better place without him. But to destroy so many good lives around him and so many like him Is a travesty.

We have all watched the events since that day. The story the media wants you to believe. Now is the time to change that. Learn the true story. The true facts surrounding this event need to be publicised over and over. Good men sitting in cells. All these wrongs need to be righted

Mesmerizing. May 2020 was absolutely horrifying as a suburban bystander. This book shows us how truly horrific it actually was. What a historic, surreal tragedy for Minnesota, for this nation, and for all of those citizens who are still left with only one version of the “facts” and not a full(er) picture.

Good read!

I liked hearing another side of the George Floyd case. I do believe it wasn't a fair trial and much of the blame there goes to Ellison. Unfortunately, I am concerned that much of Liz Collins finger pointing is aimed at the Left. I do feel she is biased on that point.

The author did an amazing job of keeping this book well organized and informative.

I live about 4 hours north of Minneapolis. When all of this started happening it was all a crazy blur. Slowly "rumors" were coming out about George Floyd and what really happened, no one really knew what to believe. I remember my boyfriend and I driving down Lake Street a week after the riots happened and it was the nastiest feeling, and we were seeing the week long after math! So when this book came out I knew I had to get it, to find out the truth as we know things were not right all along. I ordered this book months before the documentary came out on the internet to watch. I just left it to sit on my bookshelf as I had other book a head of it to read. Well, now the documentary is out I didn't want to have the book told to me before I read it, and let me tell you I'm bummed I waited so long. Not only was the truth of this very aggravating to read about, it also breaks my heart that Liz, her husband, Derek Chauvin and his family, and the other officers, the other news reporter, and so many peoples lives were ruined by people who did a lot of dirty lying. It's so embarrassing and makes it hard to trust people we should be able to trust. Liz Collin is a brave lady for writing this/making to documentary but I am glad she did. Unfortunately, there will be people who don't want to know the truth because they saw the news and already know "the truth." But good for Liz for doing the brave and getting the right information out there. No ones ever made history by being quiet, keeping speaking the truth, even if people get sick of hearing it! History that's not taught properly/talked about gets repeated, and in this case we don't want the wrong history to be repeated.

It is amazing what you learn when someone in the media drops the policy of following the liberal narrative and acts like a real investigative journalist. Minneapolis burned because its Mayor, the DA, our Governor and the media all decided that a white cop had murdered a black man based on a partial video. Before any investigation was even started, the cops were fired and their punishment was destined. Facts had to be ignored and people had to lie, but they got the job done. Liz Collin’s is one brave journalist and it is a travesty that our media these days find her a threat. It is the loss of an unbiased media that will destroy America one day.

I followed this case fairly closely and was well aware of a prosecution that would outrage the ACLU and Washington Post if it occurred to anyone but a police officer or perhaps an NRA member. That said, even I was surprised at how corrupt the Minnesota establishment and media really are. Having been a police officer and supervisor, I am no admirer of Derek Chauvin, but I was shocked at the unethical behavior of the Minneapolis Police command staff and elected officials.

The author is certainly not unbiased due to her position and treatment, but this is a book well worth reading.

The slide into the abyss started in Minneapolis.

Eye opening facts regards the death of George Floyd which sadly no one will ever be held accountable for because democrats in positions of power are corrupt. This books spells it all out with facts to back it up. The entire event was a complete political fabrication. The left likes to cry that our democracy is in trouble but yet they are the worst offenders of them all.

Well written - it’s too bad there are so many people who feel the police are always in the wrong. People need to start understanding their actions do speak louder than words, particularly when it comes to shooting police for no apparent reason other than they are doing their job. This book was well written, and I feel badly for all who lost their jobs and their businesses because some people want to prove they are right. What happened to America???

Ms Collin's lays bare the lies embraced by those who benefit from George Floyd's death. She also makes a strong and compelling case for Officer Derek Chavin's innocence. In accomplishing the later, Collin's exposes the legal system corrupted by politicians, the media corrupted by politics and afraid to stand for justice. In this book, Collins holds a mirror to the American public.
