I have no interest in being a monster’s plaything.
I shouldn’t even be in the Fallen City of Elisium, but all it took was one Nephilim jerk proclaiming me to be tainted and that’s exactly where I wind up.
The demons in this dark metropolis are vile, wicked beings, though none more so than the cruelest and most powerful monster of them all. I'm sold to him at auction as a slave. The first he's ever purchased.
I'll need to play on his curiosity about my lineage to ensure my safe return home. In what is probably the worst idea ever, I agree to strike a bargain with him.
Forty days in exchange for my freedom.
It’s not like I have any other choice. If Kincaid’s interest in me can help solve the riddle of my origin and aid in my escape from Elisium, it’ll all be worth it.
Only, the more time I spend with Kincaid, the more the tenuous line between love and hate melts away. Soon, I’ll be forced to confront something far more disquieting than the truth of my an undeniable connection with the monster who owns me.
From bestselling author, Elena Lawson comes an inventive new series that will thrust the reader into a world of dark temptation, deception, and desire.
Elena lives in Canada with her husband, daughter, and their Siberian cat overlords. She writes dark, why-choose romances full of feisty heroines, unforgettable heroes, and their kindle-melting chemistry.
When she comes out of her writing cave, she can be found binge-watching true-crime shows, obsessively rearranging her bookshelves, or chasing the sun around the globe.
It was ok till it got really cheesy. And Paige was such a weak character. Her powers really were nothing special and going up against Lucifer and his challenges were just so bad. Covers pretty though.
The series itself was okay. I felt constantly frustrated by Kincaid pushing Paige away and keeping her out of the bulk of the business. The first and second books were fast reads. They were enjoyable but shallow. The last book was rushed, almost childish, and read like a first draft. It felt like the author was trying to push every twist possible into the story, but they didn't spend enough time fleshing out conversations between the characters or managing the timeline. It leads to many contradictions within. One chapter of "I have to leave you it isn't safe," one chapter of "You were attacked and injured, I won't leave your side" repeating endlessly with more wedged-in scenarios.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend the book at this stage of publishing.
I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review
I'm so glad I got to read this series as a book box set cause I flew through all 3 stories and would not have wanted to stop after each one! Paige is amazing and I love how much she grew from the first page to the last. She really is like a whole different person with the confidence and self awareness she gained thriving this series.
Kincaid is fantastic. He also has terrific character growth and learned more about himself because of Paige. I honestly wished we had a few moments in his head because I would love to see his thoughts and feelings dieting many scenes!
I'm so glad I got the chance to read this series and met these characters!
I really wanted to like this. It had a great start, decent build with some small blips of dumb behavior and inconsistencies. One part where they enter a party, because the best way to hide someone is to take them to an elaborate party, and there is the whole ' I can feel your want for me' bit. Except she wasn't thinking about that at all. Now I made it to the part where the 'I don't want to be caged' protagonist is heroically (read:stupidly) agreed to leave the safe place and go with people she doesn't trust and doesn't know for 'questioning ' . I'm done. Too. Stupid. Too. Live. Sorry girly, I hope you die at this point. Nothing can save you from your own stupidity.
It was ok. I absolutely adored the first 1/3 of this book. The torment and emotions of a young girl getting thrown into chaos only to find that she is not what she was told she was. And then it kind of went dead. The story line was great but there were so many spelling errors like it was rushed to get done. The romance was a little weird like it was based on a high school girls perspective. I wish the characters had a little more building in them. Once they were in the story they didnt evolve into anything more then that first introduction.- all in all, I would give this a 2.5 out of 5.
I really enjoyed the book. I couldn't wait to read about the final battle. The story is really good, so I figured the show down would be epic. I was disappointed at the end. I was all geared up for a death defying, no holds barred smackdown. It just wasn't meant to be. The big guy obviously got defeated but it was so boring. The story was all wrapped up in a nice little bow.
Considering the world-building that went into this, I was pretty disappointed with the ending. I found it pretty lackluster.
Also, FMC is 19. Basically a teenager. I wasn't caring for that. I also kinda couldn't buy it. Then again, Paige does act pretty childish in parts.. Just, ugh. I think that makes it worse?
Not for me. Also, pretty long. 708 pages. And it stars with a COMPLETELY different tone than where it ends.
I really enjoyed Paige and Kincaid's story. There's plenty of action and mystery across the series. I love seeing a character grow and Paige does just that. The secondary characters are interesting as well. I love Casper even if I really shouldn't. The ending was fitting for our couple as well. Overall a good read.
Great Idea for a story. The writing was subpar and cliche. Lots of over used phrases. Some times the inner dialog was a whole lot of repetition. There really is no need to summarize every other chapter within the next one. The charectors were likeable but a bit underdeveloped.
I could not stop reading! Holy crap dude! I love the author's world they created with Angelic and Demonic lore and the artful way they created this new world out of what some could view as the end of days. It was masterfully done. I look forward to reading more of this author's titles.
This was a great twist on hell vs heaven take with the lords of hell. It was a little predictable but a fun read with some good spice. I did feel Kincaid was a bit annoying and would flip flop back and forth on a lot of things. There was definitely some story discrepancies but the over all story and world build building was a fun read
Omg this was a really good read I hate how it started off with Paige but I’m happy she got her happily ever after. Despite what she went threw she had a heart of gold I loved all the relationships especially her tori & art this was a good book
This was very close to being a DNF. The concept was good. The execution was lacking. At about 75%, I wanted to stop reading. I could have without missing anything. All the build up for a battle with Lucifer and it was so anticlimactic. Do I wish I could erase this story from my brain? Yes.
I couldn’t put this series down…. I absolutely loved all the characters. I would def recommend this series it’s spicy scenes weren’t what I was expecting but it was such a good read
I enjoyed this so much I devoured it in one single day. While there were some inconsistencies with the story and the end seemed a bit rushed and "easy" I do enjoy a HEA.
I took a little time to get into the story, but once I did I couldn't put it down . The plot has some twists and turns that keep you interested and love the HEA.
Heaven and Hell. Demons and Angels! So much turmoil and so much more. I'm extremely glad I was able to read this story and enjoy the talent of Elena Lawson! Great Story! Great Author!
I love the story of Paige and Kinkaid. The love and the loss. I appreciate fight for family. The way the story is done, you don't get lost when other characters are brought in.
So many twists and turns! I absolutely loved this series, read the whole thing in 2 days! Absolute fire from beginning to end. Warning ⚠️🚨 some parts are gruesome
I got sucked into the world they lived. Even though it was slow the first few chapters. I couldn't stop myself from reading. Had a great ending as well.
