In a world where disciples pledge themselves to gods in return for incredible powers, Ciara is a godless sixteen-year-old girl who wants to escape her circumstances, especially her arranged marriage, and find somewhere she can live the life she's always dreamed of.
Ciara gets that chance when a down-on-his-luck deity gives her the power to pledge herself to multiple gods. But, to get what she wants, she'll have to fight her way through the best disciples the surrounding villages have to offer, prove herself to wild and untamed powers, and survive the grief-worshipping nightmares set to slaughter her village to appease their monstrous god.

P.S. The Augmentamancer Chronicles books are currently out of print on account of them being a bit amateurish but I am working my way back through them with a metaphorical red pen and they are slowly being rereleased. Books 1, 2, and 3 are back and the second editions have brand new (way cooler) cover art.
This book cuts right to the chase and by about chapter three it’s all go. I don’t normally like fight scenes that much but each one felt like a little puzzle to be solved. Loved the romantic subplot too. I won’t spoil anything but I thought it was going to go another way and I was very pleased with how it worked out.
Decent story with a likable protagonist and some plot points, which I don’t want to spoil but are unexpected. Now I will say that some other plot points are easy to spot a mile away. I’m not saying that’s good or bad, but it’s predictable what would happen in so many instances. It’s the relationships that are formed or not form door discussed that are one of the more intriguing aspects of the book. Now the story does proceed at a slow pace. This is not the MC leaves the village to save the world story. Instead, the author takes time building a world, and you get to know where this MC grew up. In fact, you get to see her develop. This might be something you’re into you might be more into the faster pace, leaving the village, saving the world, slaying the monsters know this is not slice of life pace but it’s not breakneck superhero pace either. Now the story that’s told it’s not one of the greats but it’s pretty good definitely worth a read, and it does harken back to cradle to some degree. Remember, that first story in Cradle wasn’t the best in the series so I think you should give this author a chance and see where they take it. For the record if I had to compare this book to the first book of cradle, this book would come out slightly ahead.
Message to the Author SPOILERS INCLUDED.
I always write a note to the author in books that I like. This was really good. On a 10 point scale. I’d give it an 8.5. Not because anything bad occurred. It’s just the action was lacking to some degree hearing that the MC bounced off a cloud of air or floating in the sky or something of that sort it left dipped and the description necessary to really picture what was going on. Now the relationship dynamics that are discussed. Absolutely amazing. Applaud, your work on that not that the young lady appears to be lesbian. What’s the simple fact that an author went and discussed relationships have one person can like another and hearts can be broken people can still be friends you don’t have to see that in writing today, at least not in this genre no, I think we do need a further expansion on this whole guard system thing and how this really works. I hope the MC God of choice can actually really break things down for us give us a look under the hood sort of. No, I was concerned that the final encounter had figures that were so overpowering that even warriors from the famed capital couldn’t take care of them I thought that was a bit much to make them that strong that they were this in German noble force, I got where you were trying to go with it but I thought it was a bit much with them. I felt they should’ve been a little weaker beatable I guess now for any progression novel, it would be great to understand how progression will work in her case because you’re not only have the ability to meet and interact with multiple gods in her case but she can have multiple blessings from the ones she’s interacted with how will this work in her case because she could become really strong far stronger than anyone else, technically speaking, right
This book will absolutely suck you into the story. It hooks you in. After reading for a while it just makes you want to keep turning to the next page trying to find out what happens next. I haven't completely finished it yet but from what I've been reading so far it's been really good.
Goofy premise to this book. More gods than people running around and making sacrifices, selling sacrifices and killing each other for some reason. No characters are interesting and nothing happens of any interest throughout the whole book.
