Biergarten of the Damned
I’m Sam, the werewolf book nerd owner of The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore & Bar. I’ve always thought of Dave, my red-skinned, shark-eyed, half-demon cook, as a kind of foul-mouthed uncle, one occasionally given to bouts of uncontrolled anger.
Something’s going on, though. He’s acting strangely, hiding things. When I asked what was wrong, he blew me off and told me to quit bugging him. That’s normal enough. What’s not is his missing work. Ever. Other demons are appearing in the bar, looking for him. I’m getting worried, and his banshee girlfriend Maggie isn’t answering my calls.
Demons terrify me. I do NOT want to go into any demon bars looking for Dave, but he’s my family, sort of. I need to try to help, whether he wants me to or not. When I finally learn the truth, though… I’m not sure I can ever look at him again, let alone have him work for me. Are there limits to forgiveness? I think there might be.

As with most urban fantasy, this series is best enjoyed in the order of its release. From overall story arcs to relationships and character growth, you’ll want to go back to the beginning. I adore quirky, nerdy bookstore & bar owning wolf, Sam Quinn. As the story has progressed, she has gained a swoon-worthy vampire husband and befriended everything from fae to dragons.
Something is up with her cook, Dave the demon, and she is determined to help him even as he pushes her away. Settling back into the newly restored bar & bookstore has her busy, but when Clive is attacked in his sleep, the suspense builds. Let me just say demons are scary, and you should never mess with Sam Quinn.
Each installment of this series gets better as Sam builds allies and we enjoy moments between her and Clive. The danger is ever present, but Sam can hold her own. The twists and reveals in this one hurt. I felt the conflict, or in this case, the act of forgiveness, resolved too quickly, but appreciated Sam’s insight.
I cannot wait for the next audiobook. Samantha Desz narrates and has become the voice of these characters. Her tone and pacing build the suspense, bring the heat and capture snark, anger and fear.

I am LOVING this series!! It has every single thing I look for and adore in an urban fantasy series and book. There are all kinds of creatures, a very lovable and sympathetic, yet kick-A heroine, a hunky (master vampire) love interest, touches of humor, and lots and lots of action.
The thing that sets this series apart, however, is the absolute perfect timing in the flow of the story-line. The writing is so well done that one is never bored nor is one ever overloaded. The story progresses easily between sweet sexy moments to humorous fun moments to scary exciting moments then back again. I also love that all those things are interspersed throughout the story rather than just one slow buildup to a final climax at the very end. The style and story is absolute catnip for this reader!

The Biergarten of the Damned is the fifth book in the Sam Quinn urban fantasy series about a lone werewolf with a traumatic past, who runs a bar & bookshop for supernaturals in San Francisco. You definitely need to read these books in order to know who all the different characters are as you don’t get much recap. I enjoyed this one more than the last couple because the Faerie plot lines take a back seat to the story which is mostly about Sam trying to deal with a demon threat.
Sam and her vampire husband Clive are living in the apartment behind the bar with their new puppy Fergus, and looking forward to moving into their new home together. Dave, the half-demon cook who normally always has Sam’s back, is behaving strangely and seems determined to alienate her. When he quits and goes to work for another bar, Sam knows something must be very wrong - but getting him back may be her biggest challenge yet.
The best thing about this series is the array of interesting magical characters from across the UF spectrum, and how they interact in the modern world. Unlike most of this genre, they’re not romance stories - Sam and Clive are happily married and thankfully there are only a couple of brief love scenes to detract from the plot. Unfortunately, the repetition of the previous books persists - Sam is attacked, injured and subsequently healed by one of her Wicche or shifter friends on a regular basis, but now it’s not just her - poor Fergus is repeatedly threatened and harmed - luckily they have a vet on standby.
We learn more about Sam’s past, and how Dave fits in to her story, and there are some entertaining new characters like Fangorn the orc bodyguard.
This book is followed by a novella called The Banshee & The Blade which from memory came with the author’s newsletter, but the time of writing doesn’t have a separate GoodReads listing. A spin-off series about Arwen Coffey has just been published, called Bewicched, and the next Sam book is out later in the year - I’m invested in this world so probably will keep buying them (since NetGalley don’t make them available here.)

Still loving this series❤️❤️ Sam and Clive are so cute together and I’m loving their interactions. Sam is a kickbutt heroine who’s overcome so much! Clive loves her to distraction and will burn the world down to protect her. Now if only they can figure out what’s going on with Dave!! This book was a dollar coaster of humor, fighting, orcs (loved him), demons, beheadings, and more. Best read in order, the story connects to Sam’s familial line and there’s a heartbreaking surprise.

Sam and Clive are settling in to their new lives as a married couple and without Clive being the big in charge vampire. You would thing that they could catch a break, but sadly that didn't happen for them. Instead issues come up with Dave, the guy who cooks for Sam and is her friend. I was stunned with all that we learned of Dave, kinda surprised that she could forgive him part of what she learned, yet Sam is just that kind of person. By the end of the book the threat has been taken care of and it seems like now Sam, Clive and those that will live in their new home will get to enjoy it. I really hope that happens, because they all could use some time to just be.

demons galore
This is a intense story of survival and long held beliefs of revenge. I am glad we saw a side of Sam with having known her mother and what she went through. Even though she heard it from a demon she still now knows more information than before. I’m glad we are seeing more of a couple and them getting their lives together.

Once I start reading these books I can't put them down. Great storytelling and characters. I highly recommend this series. It is best to read them in order.

Um, have my very own Shire? Yes, please! This setup sounds wicked cool.
“You’re not actually paying attention to me, are you?” Clive sounded so put out, I had a hard time not laughing.
Gesturing to my ear, I said, “Sorry. Men talk at a vocal range that’s hard for women to hear.”
What with Sam's growth, her supportive and loving relationship with Clive, a dragon-made Shire, The Slaughtered Lamb's awesomeness, the addition of the wolfhound Fergus and an Orc guard Fangorn, meeting BFD and learning of Dave's backstory, and so much more this was nearly a ✮✮✮✮✮-read for me. But, I struggled with the quick-ish-ness of Sam's forgiveness. So, I'm deducting ½✮. On one hand, I loved that she was able to see through her sadness and anger to the heart of the situation as it was for her friend, but on the other hand, I felt there should've been a period of will she/won't she be able to forgive him.
I'm so anxious for the next book in 2023 and I'm looking forward to the announced spin-off, The Sea Wicche Chronicles Bewicched: The Sea Wicche Chronicles.
I highly recommend this series to UF+R fans!

I almost DNFed this about halfway through but put it on 3x and pushed through. I think I'm over this series. The constant near-death experiences are exhausting, and it's frustrating when she spends a day shelving books and serving tea rather than, I don't know, seeking answers or speaking with some of the umpteen supernatural beings she knows who might be able to help her. I get that she's supposed to be a perpetual victim, but it doesn't make for an enjoyable reading experience. I'm also tired of the multiple graphic, detailed rape scenes per book, whether current, history, or flashback. I'm just...over this.

I really enjoyed this next book in this series, but would definitely recommend that you read them in order to fully understand the characters.
Sam and Clive are desperately trying to enjoy their newly-wedded life, but they should have expected that nothing would go smoothly for them. They simply have too many enemies, who will stop at nothing to destroy them. The fae king is constantly sending warriors to take out Sam as revenge for her previous actions! And now demons are starting to hunt Clive as he sleeps.
When Dave, The Slaughtered Lamb's half demon cook, behaves out of character, more angry and grumpy than usual, Sam will try anything to get him to talk to her, even if it means entering the Demon's Lair and dealing with these nasty, pure evil beings. What she was not prepared for were the secrets into her own past that Dave was a part of, that Sam was completely unaware of. How will she ever be able to forgive him for what he had done?
I loved Sam in this one, doing everything she could to save both Clive and Dave, even if it meant facing enemies that could simply take her out with a click of their fingers. Luckily for Sam, she has a group of close friends, her found family, to rely on and help her in her times of need and new allies too, surprisingly one of those was a highly ranking demon!
I loved the addition of Fangorn and hope we see him return in future books as well. I also love the idea of the folly and how it is being built to be an underground Hobbiton! I so want to visit it!
Looking forward to reading Dave's short novella next which picks up pretty much as this one finished.

After all the craziness of the last book, this one comes off as almost sedate. Does Sam get thrown into crazy situations? Sure. But there’s a general focus to the big bad here.
Sam and Clive are back and working on building their married life together. After discovering the awesome magical construct the dragons had in the last book, that is currently under construction behind the book store. They are also working on their own house to live in together (outside the nocturn) like normal folks. Oh, and they’ve got a dog, who is maybe the star of this book. Something, however, is very much up with Dave. He’s ditching work and is maybe more ornery than usual.
Sam being Sam, can’t leave that alone so goes after him to discover he no longer wants anything to do with her. Thus begins Sam’s very reluctant entrance into the demon world to try to get her friend back. There’s a lot of secrets that get revealed as part of this journey, but we end up in a better place by the end. We even gain some unexpected friends along the way! This book is definitely setting up whatever happens next, but I did enjoy a deeper dive into the demon world. Oh, and there’s some almost side story for an old archnemesis of theirs (they have a lot of past villains), but this gives good resolution there, too.

In love from Book One
There is no lack of action, fighting, lies and deceptions. The revelations are huge in their implications which will be felt like butterfly wings in the middle of the ocean. However they are on home turf so you’d THINK Sam & Clive would have the upper hand but in order to change that Sam is whisked off to another realm: HELL.
As much as she wants to help her Demon cook Dave, he isn’t trying to let her. One of those ‘revelations’ is going to tear what friendship they’ve built down to the screws & bolts. Dave is manipulated into putting his cards in the table by his childhood buddy Olivier. Olivier is being used by Sitri and it all goes to hell. 🤣 Dave’s Demon Dad is so impressed with how Sam deals with threats and obstacles but most of all her kind and loving words about his son.
Although they are standing still it is one hairy hell of a ride not to be missed.
It also alludes to a group trip to Faery and a showdown with Clive’s maker. My odds are still with the Dragon loving, Demon friending, Fergus saving, Necromancer wolficche, vampire wife Sam.

Another exciting entry in this series
Sam and Clive deal with demons in this book. Vengeance and secrets seem to be the overriding themes. And the moral of the story is being a good and compassionate person earns you karma and more allies.
In this book Sam and Clive are tormented by demons for unknown reasons and by Fae assassins on orders from the imprisoned king. Here are a lot of creepy run ins but we see Sam getting stronger and reconciling her past more and more.
There are some heartbreaking moments and a real stab to the heart for Sam who has to choose how to deal with a huge betrayal. But Sam’s overall goodness and compassion wins out which ultimately benefits her later. Karma.
I was left with a few questions because there seemed to be some contradictions that weren’t answered. Those resulted in some story inconsistencies. There were also quite a few glaring typos/errors that me wonder if the final draft was ever proofread. I find that super irritating.
The end sets us up for two big problems for Clint and Sam to deal with in book 6.

As a whole, this series is a fabulous read! 😍😍😍.
The romance part is wonderful too, did I mention Miss Seana is a fan of In Death series yet? It shows, the relationship between Sam and Clive reminded me of Eve and Roarke’s. I love it and no complaints whatsoever regarding that part 😘.
However what stopped me to give this series a full five stars read is, the abused Sam have got in the whole series. Good grief, I’ve never read any other heroine who had been almost dead more than Sam, not even Eve Dallas or Kate Daniels! 🫣😳.
Seriously Miss Seana, if you just turn down that Sam’s almost dead part a bit more and just shows us the kickass heroine she was, this book will more enjoyable to read.
And I would not ask you to retitle this series to ‘101 Ways How To Kill Sam’ anymore! 😘😂.
Beside that complaint, I really enjoy this series!

Once again Sam Quinn (half wicche/half werewolf) & her husband Clive (the vampire) have multiple foes to defeat. Everything should've been wonderful after they got back from their honeymoon to Europe, but the Fae & Demons don't agree.
A plus was Fergus the new doggie and Fangorn, the Fae warrior she saved back in Europe, who wants to Guard Sam, unless his Fae Queen needs him. Sam is ok with that and it helps as the Fae King keeps sending assassins, who show up on the magical chess set, made by a Corey wicche.
Dave's dad, BFD, makes an appearance and Dave's history comes to light, which is a bit of a shock to Sam. Another trip to Hell later and BFD & Dave are talking again.
And beyond all the things, is the magical folly that the mysterious dragons are creating for Sam & Clive at their new house. It sounds wonderful, a whole Hobbit village, which then leads to other magical wonders. Can't wait for it to be completed so we get a full description.
A plus was Fergus the new doggie and Fangorn, the Fae warrior she saved back in Europe, who wants to Guard Sam, unless his Fae Queen needs him. Sam is ok with that and it helps as the Fae King keeps sending assassins, who show up on the magical chess set, made by a Corey wicche.
Dave's dad, BFD, makes an appearance and Dave's history comes to light, which is a bit of a shock to Sam. Another trip to Hell later and BFD & Dave are talking again.
And beyond all the things, is the magical folly that the mysterious dragons are creating for Sam & Clive at their new house. It sounds wonderful, a whole Hobbit village, which then leads to other magical wonders. Can't wait for it to be completed so we get a full description.

So, I kinda played loose with this one, as it's a romantic urban fantasy instead of just a straight-up romance. But man, did I enjoy myself with every page. This was fast-paced, emotional, funny, and everything I've come to love about this series. Poor Sam was once again put through the wringer physically and emotionally, as she was pretty constantly under attack, and she also found out something about Dave, and it might just change everything between them. I loved Clive's steadiness, the rest of her friends, her puppy Fergus, and even the giant Orc, Fangorn. I read this thing in one sitting, when I'd only planned on just the first chapter or two, so that should show how invested I quickly became. After the ending to this one, I definitely need to continue this series sooner rather than later.

In this installment of everyone's favourite werewolf-witch, we get to explore the demons in Kelly's wide and wonderful world. We dig a little deeper into one of my favourite side characters and meet some big and scary players. I have a feeling Kelly is dropping breadcrumbs that will lea to an ultimate showdown int he future in which Sam had to call upon all the allies the collects with her honesty, loyalty and bravery.
Dave, her cranky demon cook has gone AWOL and then quit his job. He won't say why and he won't speak to Sam. At all. Sam decides something is up and hunts the poor man down to get her answers.
A cast of familiar faces pop in here and there with the addition of one determined orc and Sam fights to find out what is happening with Dave before it's too late.

Sam and Clive face Demons and Fae assasins
Hold on to your hats this one starts with a bang and doesn't let up, Sam and Clive are beset on all sides. Attacked while asleep and awake there is no place.for them to hide and its.starting.to wear.then down. Also something is wrong with Dave he's stopped coming into work and when Sam tries to talk to him about it be quits, Sam knows something is seriously wrong, Dave is a part of her small family , she's determined to.find and help him. But Dave has secrets and Sam may very much regret not !etting him keep them. ,............................... A brilliant series with lots of.interesting characters like Gorgons, Dragons, Werewolves, Vampires and so on. They all come together in Sam's little bookstore/ bar for a good read, good company and a good time.

I have to admit I am definitely disappointed in the big reveal about David. It really didn’t feel genuine to the story or to the character of David. Frankly, it feels a bit lazy and conflict for the sake of conflict. If this was the direction the author wanted to go in to flesh out more of David’s story and build more on the lore there, it could’ve been done without sacrificing his character. The betrayal didn’t have to be David’s at all and could’ve remained his “friend” all the way up to the end. This so called friend could’ve been framing David instead of it playing out that way. But that’s just my opinion. I do however enjoy the overall story and characters and that is why it is still a 3 star.

I have mixed feelings about book #5. I'm a little confused about the future housing arrangements. So are they going to have an estate as well as a folly in the restaurant? Are the friends sharing the folly or are they building one of their own? Seems excessive but..
I especially like the visit to hell. The shadows and the rabbit demons, and the fight! The problem is the story of Dave. It doesn't mesh. He couldn't have been red all his life based on his backstory. When did he turn that color? In hell? Also the very bad thing with Sam. Supposedly demons can see light as soon as they look at a person if your soul is good. Then how did he not see hers and you know whose immediately instead of later? Still well worth the read.

Great series!
This is one of a few series that I have purchased. There is enough time between book releases that I read all of them again before I read the new one. Although it's been 7 years since Sam's torture and escape, she is finally venturing out of her safe place and recovering mentally. That's when the action begins. Talk about "a series of unfortunate events!" I love the banter among Sam, Clive, Geoffrey and grumpy uncle Dave.
As a side note, I didn't realize that The Sea Wicche Chronicles was a spin off. I am eagerly awaiting the next book! There are some great reveals in the first!

This series has some of the best world building and characters I've read - and I read a lot of Urban Fantasy. It has become one of my favorite series - the complex individual stories and related story arc, along with the author's excellent writing, are second to none. I would love to live in this world - it is so richly drawn! I really love these characters!! Dave's poignant and difficult issues are dealt with in a very satisfying way in this book. Did not see that coming!! I could read this series forever!

A wonderful series!!
I absolutely love it when I can get so absorbed in a story that all the chaos and stress surrounding me is just white noise. The story line is amazing. The characters are like family. This series is just what I need to relax ,laugh and cry with them because you really feel like part of the story. (And at the end because the story is over and you have to wait patiently for the next part of the story) So thank you so much Seana Kelly for letting me into your world of magical beings and amazing places .

Let us take a moment to appreciate the title of this book. Even if I didn't know that it contained some of my favorite urban fantasy characters, I would want to read it from the title alone. Add in the wonderful characters, compelling story, and a puppy? Well, not only did I love it, but I want everyone to run out and read this, along with the other books in the series. Not that this requires the other books to be enjoyed, but they make the story so much richer. I have been lucky enough to listen to the audiobooks, perfectly narrated by Samantha Desz. 5 stars, all around!

Another fantastic installment!
Seana has such a wonderful & magnificent way of telling stories, that make you feel that the story is so real, that it could be real life. Each book in this series has been a master piece and written to perfection and this book is no different.
This book was well paced, the continuity is amazing, the action make my adrenaline go & the romance makes me swoon! It was just long enough and the story was stopped at the right moment. The character growth is awesome to read. We got introduced to more mythology and I find that Seana truly has a phenomenal way of bringing all the different creatures and species from other worlds together.
This book focuses on Sam's grumpy foul mouthed demon-wicche cook, Dave and his history and relationship with Sam, as well as his own history. Dave had not been turning up for work and when Sam went to see him, he pushed her away hard. Another demon who was an absolute bastard and loved to hurt Dave out of jealousy, told Sam the true reason Dave came into her life. Dave was the demon who killed and tortured her mother when she was hiding in the closet. Turns out that the evil demon who was telling Sam this, had tricked Dave into believing that Sam's mother was evil and trying to kill her innocent sister, Abigail the sorcerer, and she needed to be stopped. It was playing on Dave's own history and his rules for aiding sorcerers was that the person who needed torturing & killing were NOT innocents, they were to be already heading to hell. So Dave came and tortured Sam's mother believing he was helping the sorcerer but after a while torturing her, he realised that Sam was in the closet, so he took a closer look at the players, realised that Sam's mother was a pure innocent and Abigail's aura was a dark and evil as a demons. Sam's mum died before he could fix her, but he got Abigail out of there before she realised that Sam was there. He tried to help Sam when she was being tortured and raped by pushing Abigail out of her mind and flicking the switch that kept her wolf dormant, so she could shift and save herself. When Sam started the bar and bookstore, he learned how to cook, banking & shopping in the human world so he could work in the bar and watch over and protect Sam. It started out as penance for what he had done but soon turned into a life he loved and was happy. His father turns out to be a fallen angel, called Abaddon and he is a BIG power in hell, kidnaps Sam and takes her to hell. He then locks her in his office with Dave, so they can hash out their problems, which is where Sam learns everything. The evil demon interrupts them and tries to kill Dave with a power dagger and Sam saves him with a sword that his father had spelled to kill demons. In return for saving his son, he heals all of Sam's injuries and in doing so removed all of her scars & she is now scar free. He also spelled Sam & Clive's new home & bar-bookstore to prevent demons from entering. Sam ends up forgiving Dave because he did what he did because he was tricked and he has more than made up for his mistake. So that is a relief, I was so worried we would lose our grumpy cook! I love Dave.
In this book poor Clive was being sliced up by a demon while he was unconscious for the day and scarring the crap out of Sam. Turns out it was the demon Sitri that Clive killed because he hurt Sam. Dave's dad permanently kills him at the end of the book. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
We got introduced to an interesting new character that I have fallen for because he is just a sweetie. His name is Fangorn and he is an orc Fae. He was the one Sam rescued from Aldith's dungeon. He has come to guard her against the evil Fae that are trying to kill her on behalf of the evil Fae King. He was hilarious in some points, like when he ate the pixie and dwarf and got a tummy ache lol At the end of the book though, we find out that the evil Fae king as escaped his prison, so Fangorn returns to Fairie to guard the queen. But I really hope we see him again because he has become a main staple in Sam's little family and I just adore him.
We got to see Fergus who has become beloved by nearly all the supernaturals in San Francisco. The dragon Fyr has now joined Sam's family and works as a bartender with Sam. Russell is doing well as the new Master. His second is Audrey and third is Godfrey. God I love Godfrey, that man is my favorite character in this series. We got to see some more of Stheno who is also now part of Sam's family and I freaking love that gorgon lol
The dragon made folly that will be Sam & Clive's home is looking AMAZING! We only know about the first part nearest the bar, which is looking like Hobbiton. Clive & Sam will live in the biggest Hobbit hole that resembles Bilbo's, behind the light blue door will be Russell's, the dark blue for Godfrey & another one for Audrey. I cannot wait to read about the finished home and all the different sections.

I cannot get enough of this series & with Seana's amazing stories. I would rate all these books in this series one hundred stars if I could and I HIGHLY recommend this series to EVERYONE. I am on the edge of my seat awaiting the next book because at the end of this book we learned that Clive's maker, Garyn is coming to San Francisco and it is looking like she is insane, so this should be a phenomenal read and I cannot wait!
