Dewey, a tiny kitten, was found in a library book slot one cold Iowa morning. The library became his home for the next 18 years and Dewey became famous. Why? He liked nothing better than making peopleaespecially kidsahappy. This beginning reader has full-color illustrations throughout.
So I am probably the last person in the world to have read this book. I absolutely loved it! But I am pretty simple like that. It is about a kitten that was found in the drop box of a library. The employees took him in and raised him until he was quite old. This tells of his antics, how he touched the lives of many people and it overall just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Haha, fuzzy! There is a second book in which people tell their individual stories of what Dewey meant to them. I will probably read that as well. I also tried to persuade Jennifer to let us have a library cat...stay tuned.
This is the best biography I've read yet. A good addition to the school library. Dewey's personality seems a lot like our cat, may she rest in peace (20 1/2 yrs old). Makes me think about another feline in our life...hmmm.
A remarkable story, from Dewey's survival as a kitten, to his fame that spreads worldwide. Even better, the honest, at times poignant memoir of the librarian who saved him. This is a parallel story of two survivors.
The December selection for my book club - wanted a 'light' read for a busy month. Pleasant, easy reading, and a lovely story. However Dewey's personality never made much of an appearance as some of my 'cat friends' in other books did, i.e., 'the cat annoyance' in "A Man Called Ove". Dewey was a very nice cat, but I must say I never really got to know him, alas.
