The highly anticipated sequel to the Born of Ash series is finally here.
The war is over. The First Galactic Empire has collapsed into ruin and ash. Or has it?
Keira, having been hunted and almost killed by the Unified Planetary Government’s regulators, for reasons she does not fully understand, finds herself rescued by Marines and stranded on the Imperial Starship Seringapatam.
Dispatched on a secret mission of the utmost importance, the Seri is a ship that has remained hidden since the last days of the war. More confusing, Keira has developed a strange power she cannot seem to control, let alone understand, the ability to interact with the machine in ways that are unexplainable.
Companions, Marines, and her guardians, Chris and Wash, are both dead. Vex, her only remaining friend and ally, is critically injured. Confined to her father’s cabin by the Seringapatam’s mistrustful captain, Keira discovers a hidden message. Her father passes the responsibility for his critical mission, what the Seri was dispatched to accomplish…to her, instructing Keira to travel to the planet’s core and find the precursor ruins. There she must somehow locate the Infinity Controller, a powerful and mysterious artifact.
But what is the Controller? Keira does not know. It apparently has the ability to change everything. She has been named a princess of the empire, and potential heir to the throne. But does the empire still exist? Or is Seringapatam its last holdout? More troubling…can she even trust the crew of the Seri, or do they, like the UPG, want to use her ability to interact with the machine for their own nefarious purposes? Complicating matters, the empire’s ancient enemy has returned in strength. They want the Controller too and will stop at nothing to get it.
Find out why thousands of readers have fallen for Amazon bestselling author Marc Alan Edelheit’s captivating books! The battle to save humanity begins here!
Bestselling author Marc Edelheit has traveled the world, from Asia to Europe, at one point crossing the border at Check Point Charlie in Berlin toward the end of the Cold War.
Marc is the ultimate history fan and incorporates much of that passion into his work to bring greater realism to his fans. He is also an avid reader, devouring several books per week, ranging from history to science fiction and fantasy.
I still liked this book, and enjoyed reading it. I found it a bit jarring the way this scifi/military story became fantasy with magic. It was very well done, so I am staying in this story.
If you have any interest in good science fiction, Roman history, or fantasy, you need to be reading Marc's book. On the level of David Weber (but with an editor), you will not be disappointed. The only hard part is waiting for the next book to come out.
Marc is my favorite author and I have read everything he has written. I have never been disappointed.
His story arcs are engaging. His characters easy to invest in and honorable action is a recurring element in his stories. As a fourth generation Prussian-American, honorable conduct matters. Doing what is right matters. Seeking to benefit others matters. These have been entered in my DNA and my view of life. I am thankful for these elements in his stories.
I need his stories as I traverse an unexpected life of recently diagnosed multiple sclerosis. A diagnosis not usually seen after your 40’s. Yet I am diagnosed in my 60’s. A career as a complex trauma therapist ended by MS. A very unexpected life as I have acquired 8 more medical issues.
I know struggle. I need stories of struggle where the goals extend beyond personal agendas; beyond personal outcomes. Stories of teams that are committed to each other and to something beyond the team: something that transcends them.
Thank you Marc. Your characters give me hope even though they are fictional. It is the thinking in the creating that matters.
Brilliant, book 2 of the Ash series is great read from start to finish. Princess Keria struggles to find her way with a ships Captain that doesn’t trust her and new marine handlers she doesn’t trust yet. She must learn the hard way how to control the machines that her Grandfather before her was able to, with enemy factions trying to prevent her from reaching her goal and full potential.
Thus far (this is only book 2) this has been one of the most enjoyable sci-fi sagas I have read. Very well written, with well defined characters engaged (of course) in a quest to save humankind. The cinderalla story in the midst of it (not really a spoiler, it's kinda obvious) is tantalizing & especially satisfying as it evolves. My only regret is that book 3 is not yet out and I'll have to wait a month to pick this up again. Bummer!
The book was very enjoyable. The action was intense but I felt less so than book one. The author left the good guys in a pickle again at the end so now we have to wait until book 3 for them to extract themselves.
I personally felt John Lee did a better job on book one, though the narration was understandable with a little effort.
I love the way the story keeps moving. At first it felt a little rushed but I then got wrapped up in all the moving parts and just enjoyed the story I think it helps that I’m a fan of the authors’ other series so while it’s a different flavor it still feels comfortable and familiar.
A great continuation of the Keira story. Overcoming obstacles, both personal and interpersonal, internal and external. Keira struggles to learn her new abilities and take on the responsibility trusted to her by her father.
Great book, some interesting character developments however gutted by the last page which told me the next episode wouldn’t be released for a year🙁. I think reading was better when authors wrote novels not series.
A very good continuation of book one of 'Born Of Ash'. The theme is quite intriguing and very thunderous as Imperial Marines continues to assist the true princess in her conquest. The Princess must prove herself valid.
The story is quite compelling. I enjoyed the slow release. There is plenty going on but the story itself unfolds little by little and you get pulled in more and more as you go. As much as things come to light in this book, it ends with more questions. I look forward to reading the next one.
Outstanding sequel! After being rescued by the Marines, Kiera finds herself gradually discovering new abilities, some quite incredible. If you enjoyed Fallen Empire, you'll need to grab this.
