The Aranthian Succession brings the lore of Necromunda up closer to the current Warhammer 40,000 timeline by detailing the events the followed the opening of the Great Rift. The plot of this campaign book follows the chaotic fallout from an attempted assassination attempt on Necromunda’s ruler, Lord Helmawr, as various Houses and factions attempt to seize power. This is a very interesting storyline that threatens to shake up the lore of the game a lot as full scale House warfare engulfs every part of both the Ash Wasters and the Hives themselves. The main focus of this part of the story is the conflict between the Escher and Goliath (my favourite two Clan Houses) that has a nice back and forth element to it. The artwork in the book is also great, as usual for a Games Workshop book, with some nice character portraits (particualy Lady Hera Helmawr’s), and some nice double page spreads of locations on Necromunda.

The rules section of the book includes rules for Succession Campaigns where the players have to pick sides for or against the Imperial House Helmawr that seem quite interesting as you fight over supporters rather than territory. The book also includes rules for a number of Dramatis Personae who appear in this section of the story including the Goliath Bounty Hunter Gorshiv Hammerfist, Athera the bodyguard of the House Escher leader, and Lady Hera the youngest daughter of Lord Helmawr. The book also includes some fun looking scenarios that allow people to replay important events from the lore.
