Christmas is looming, and rumors circulate that the reclusive owner of Dicken’s Chronicle is terminating the paper, leaving editor-in-chief Madeline St. Vincent reeling. Desperate to save the vital community business from closure, she’s willing to do almost anything, even jokingly tossing a few coins in the local wishing well. Madeline is known as “Mad” by her colleagues because work comes before anything else. Being alone, except for her playful Pomeranian, Charlie, she dislikes the holiday season, and when her ex-fiancé arrives back in town, he reminds her why.
Billionaire Ben Walker, son of the owner of Dicken’s Chronicle , wants to sell the newspaper because he believes it’s a source of stress for his old man. In his opinion, there’s no sound business reason to save the silly gossip pages. His ailing father, however, demands Ben spend time at the tabloid before any final decision is made. Left with no choice, Ben agrees but working alongside his gorgeous but tough-as-nails ex, Madeline, is not easy, especially when it’s clear, she still blames him for the break-up, which isn’t true.
It will take more than an impromptu kiss under the mistletoe to heal the rift of the past. When the full story emerges surrounding their split, will Ben have a change of heart concerning the fate of the Dicken’s Chronicle ?

A Tale of Two Wishes is a sweet, second chance holiday romance. Maddy St Vincent is editor in chief of the newspaper in the small New England town of Dickens. She is struggling to keep the Dicken’s Chronicle going, but rumors abound when the Chronicle owner’s son arrives back in town. Ben Walker was once engaged to Maddy and their history together is getting in the way of them working together for the good of the paper.
“Ben still loved her. Maddy couldn’t let him slip through her fingers and let fear hold her back once again.”
I am a complete sucker for a sweet, small town Christmas story and this one reeled me right in. There were touches of humor and very low angst… An enjoyable and entertaining book to read during the holidays <3 -5 Stars-
What a lovely and charming story with great characters. I was drawn in from the very first chapter and binge read until the end. A new holiday classic you don't want to miss.
This is another beautiful story from the Dickens Holiday Romance Series. Madeline St. Vincent, editor-in-chief of the Dicken's Chronicle is trying to save the paper from closing. Ben Walker, the billionaire son of the owner and her ex arrives in town and wants to close the paper to relieve his father's stress. Madeline blames Ben for their breakup which happened during the Holiday season and explains why she is not a fan. Will Maddy learn the truth about what really caused their breakup? Will they be able to work together to save the paper? This exciting story will captivate you. I loved how the news shared with Ben's family on Christmas morning made the holiday even more special. I absolutely love this fascinating story and especially how the story ends with the Breaking news pieces which were so beautifully written.
This is such a wonderful read! Madeline blames Ben for a lot including their break up. Set in a fantastic small town that’s all set up ready for the holiday season, our two characters have to find a way to work together. Could it lead to more? Will they settle their differences and will Mads get to the truth in the end? It’s a great Christmassy read and you could easily visualise it all! Merry Christmas 🎄
Book 15 in the Dickens Holiday Romance series. Editor-in-chief Madeline St. Vincent and Billionaire Ben Walker will have their ups and downs and they will both make wishes at the wishing well. I enjoyed seeing these two get a second chance. The surprise from his Father was cute. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a second chance romance with strong characters in Maddy and Ben. It's a sweet holiday read with the two facing their feelings and forgiving, especially on Maddy's side. Ben steps up and refuses to let her go the second time. It's well written with descriptive scenes, moves quickly and smoothly and is an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
when Ben comes back to Dickens Maddy is not a happy camper since Ben broke her heart but Ben is determined to win Maddy back but can she trust him and there is talk he is considering selling the Dickens Chronicle and Maddie and the town don't want this. What will happen?
A sweet and heartwarming Christmas story! I admired Maddy for how loyal she was to the Dickens Chronicle and all of its staff. They were her family. She hoped it wouldn't close, but the owner's son, Ben was in town and she knew it couldn't be good news that brought him there. At one time, Ben was the love of Maddy's life, until she discovered he may have cheated on her. She had never given Ben the chance to explain but maybe she should have. Will Ben and Maddy be able to save the newspaper, and also possibly rekindle their relationship? A great story to get you in the holiday spirit.
Maddie and Ben had to work together to find a way to save the local newspaper. They also have history to deal with - they were engaged, and she blames him for their breakup. The story is delightful, the setting is charming, and the characters are older and wiser. It's a beautiful Christmas story, and a wonderful first read from this author. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When Madeline’s ex-fiancé Ben Walker returns to town to help his father, the owner of the local newspaper and her boss, sparks fly. Dickens Chronicale is her life and Ben wants to shut it down. She must work through a hurtful misunderstanding from their past that caused their break-up. During this holiday season they have plenty of opportunities—like an impromptu kiss under the mistletoe. This story is a lovely addition to the Dickens Holiday Romance series.
A second chance small town Christmas romance, with just a dash of magic. A great Christmas novella; it reminds me of a Hallmark movie. Grab your hot chocolate and favorite cozy blanket, and get ready to get in the holiday spirit with A Tale of Two Wishes!
One of the main reasons I enjoy reading romances by J.M. Davies, so much, is that she writes them from her heart. They are always well written, her characters are realistic, and the story is emotional - just what a romance should be. I can honestly say that "A Tale of Two Wishes: A Dickens Holiday Romance" hits all those marks. I thoroughly enjoyed this second chance romance. The characters, Maddy St. Vincent and Ben Walker are thrown together after breaking off their engagement three years ago. Maddy works at the Dicken’s Chronicle, the local newspaper owned by Ben's father. The paper is on the verge of bankruptcy, so Ben is asked by his dad to work with Maddy to see if the paper can be saved or not. It is three weeks before Christmas, and the situation looks extremely grim, as well as the vibe between Maddy and Ben. As time ticks towards Christmas, Maddy and Ben finally find themselves growing closer, but will the problems of the Chronicle turn around?
