It wasn't supposed to be like this. It was supposed to be Loki the trickster god's happily ever after with Sigyn. They had gone full Midgardian, settling down in California, with Loki doing what he does best-mischief. When Sigyn collapses, Loki senses a grave darkness growing within her, and he knows only one god who may be able to stop Surtr before this sinister force possesses her completely. Once again he finds himself forced to ask Odin for his help...which always carries with it some kind of price. However, Odin is the least of Loki's problems, especially when buried secrets start surfacing because of brothers, both dead and alive. Blackmail is a nasty business. Loki worries that his happily ever after with Sigyn could have an unhappy end. Lies are unraveling, the truth is spinning, and consequences are flying faster than Loki can run and he may lose Sigyn forever-either to the darkness, or to his own lies.
Lyra Wolf is a Swiss-American author of fantasy and mythic fiction.
Raised in Indiana, home to a billion corn mazes, she now lives in Central Florida, home to a billion mosquitoes. She enjoys drinking espresso, wandering through old city streets, and being tragically drawn to 18th century rogues.
When Lyra isn’t fulfilling the wishes of her overly demanding Chihuahua, you can find her writing about other worlds and the complicated people who live there.
Lyra has earned a B.A. in History and M.A. in English.
Lyra once again knocks it out of the park with Book 3 of their series.
Disclaimer: I'm a colleague and writing partner of Lyra's. I had the joy of helping out with one of the final drafts of the book, and I probably a bit biased toward their work. But I don't care, Lyra's a genius and you should read this book. MWAH.
Just like every book in the series, That Good Mischief is a great mix of pain and humour, with a dash of desire. Fans of the series will know how On Brand this is, but rest assured that Lyra has turned up the pain in order to give Sigyn The Worst Time Ever.
Lyra has many skills, but my absolute favourite in the way in which they take godly figures and display them as raw, passionate, human-like beings. The book is full of introspection and very relatable emotional moments. The serrated edges of the Loki-Sigyn-Odin dynamics cuts the reader and the characters in equal measure. These moments are skillfully done, and you'll find yourself looking forward to them just as much as dreading them. There were several times during my reading that I DM'd Lyra to let them know how much of a monster they were and also HOW DARE THEY.
If you like getting hurt, but also rewarded for it, you're going to love this book.
Oh and there's two fight scenes that now live rent free in my head, and the end of the book will leave you begging Lyra to write faster.
That Good Mischief is an excellent addition to Lyra's series, and you should absolutely be reading it.
"I wouldn’t piss in your eye if your brain was on fire?”
Did I mention I love Loki? Books with funny narrators are such pleasure to read. And the last one hundred pages had mr me gasping, I read it with my fist in my mouth and occasionally shouted. Lmao.
SIGYN GET LOKI FROM ODIN'S GREEDY GAY HANDS!
Btw this series is the first time I am seeing Odin and Loki as lovers. Marvel has brainwashed father son relationship into me. But no they're fellow gods in the mythology, I tend to forget that. And Odin is Alfather - aldaddy if you will. I'll stop now.
You bet I finished this and immediately bought the next book. I am more than ready for the grand finale.
And now for the quotes:

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.— Proverb
This one has stuck with me lately ever since I've read Blood over bright haven. The thought that intentions do not matter, it's the actual impact that does. And this view kinda messed with my view on good vs evil.
“Don’t you dare tell me to bury the hatchet,” she spat. “Because the only way I’m doing that is if it’s in his skull.”
This made me cackle: Something I’d rarely seen glistened in her eyes. I believed it to be a soul.
“I choose to identify as an only child.”
“Ragnarok was so six months ago,” I said. “Can’t we let bygones be bygones?”
This was an arrow to my heart: driven together by what they can create and driven apart by what they are.”
He had all the charm of a constipated slug. AHAHAHAH
“You threw our love to the wolves." SO GAY SO DRAMATIC PEAK CINEMA
anoint your anger with my blood.” ANOINT YOUR ANGER WITH MY BLOOD OKAY SHAKESPEARE
He was my religion. As I was his. GAYYYYY
“If you need me, I’ll be not here.”
You stared into its eyes, into your destiny, and you laughed, MY MAAAAN WELL EVERYONE'S HE'S KINDA A WHORE
I knew an opportune moment when it hiked its skirt and flashed its ankle at me.
“Forgiveness is how we repair our trust. That’s what I had to understand." This had me staring at the wall thinking of people I should forget.
____
Anyway I see you, Lyra and I annotated too many of your pretty words. What a prose. Aah.
ONE thing that would make all this immensely better is if we saw Odin and Loki when they were happy together and if they were broken up in front of our faces.
Then all the angst would have such a weight!

In a reading slump and in nerd of a pick me up? Start this series.
I am absolutely in love with this series. It just keeps giving. This book in particular has so much heart, so much character development. I see Loki grow so much as a person, learning to trust and build real re ationships, and I am in awe of Sigyn and her ability to stay calm always. The way she takes everything in stride and never loses Hope. I didn't really know what to expect from the ending, but it was not that. I cannot wait to see where books four can possibly go from here.
I was sent an Advanced Review Copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Lyra! My opinions are my own. There are spoilers for Book 2 and probably Book 1 in the series, but hopefully not for That Good Mischief!!
That Good Mischief picks up after the end of The Order of Chaos. Ragnarok has been stopped for now and Loki and Sigyn are living the high life in Midgard, with fast cars, designer clothes and an amazing house, Loki having been banished from Asgard for his role in bringing about the start of Ragnarok. Sigyn is training to be a doctor and it seems that nothing can ruin their idyllic lifestyle. However this is Lyra Wolf writing and we already know how much she likes to torture her beloved main characters!
The chapters are told from the point of view of either Loki or Sigyn and before long Sigyn starts to manifest strange behaviour:
“Sigyn had pulled Surtr into herself to save us from Ragnarok. Her contrary element of hope and fidelity had smothered this lethal and consuming darkness. At least, that’s what we all thought. But now…now that darkness raced through Sigyn’s veins, pulsing and alive.”
Loki is reminded of Gullveig’s warning during Ragnarok:
“You think you’ve stopped Ragnarok. That you’ve won. But Yggdrasil’s roots remain shaken”
Loki wanted to know if there would be any consequences of Sigyn’s heroic actions during the battle and Odin’s reply was ominous and comes back to Loki now:
“Time will tell.”
What can Loki possibly do to protect her? The only person he can think of who might have an idea how to help is his ex lover and nemesis, Odin, who lives in Asgard, the one place Loki is banished from.
There follows a series of quests in this story where Loki and Odin have to travel to other realms where Loki is unwelcome in order to procure an amulet and Brisingamen, Freya’s famed necklace. Meanwhile Sigyn is left with Angrboda, the mother of Loki’s children, and her surprise guest who turns out to be extremely poisonous. On top of that she has her thoughts of Loki and Odin traveling together, night and day to add worry to her troubled mind. Throw into the mix the secrets Loki has kept from her and lies Loki has told her which are threatening to come to light and we have a powder keg situation.
Lyra Wolf’s wonderfully visual descriptions make it easy to imagine the mythical creatures with which she populates her stories and to imagine them in such incongruous places as a relatively normal house:
“Surtr stood next to the cabinet in the form of a man. Boredom hardened the sharp angles of his face, and masses of white hair as bright as flame brushed the tops of his broad shoulders. Layers of black robes raced down the elegant arch of his back, the sleek lines of his waist, his hips. A cruel beauty sharper than knives imbued his smile. But his eyes. Violet. Majestic. Dangerous.”
The flippant and often sarcastic humour of Loki is something I have particularly enjoyed in this series and it was wonderful to see its return. Despite all the terrible situations Loki repeatedly finds himself and his loved ones in, he usually has a glib remark to throwaway. His inappropriate comments help to diffuse the horror and tension of some of the unbelievable circumstances his chaos brings him into.
I love the characterisation Wolf brings to these well known figures of Norse myth. In the last book we had Fenrir as a man-bun wearing vegan who takes photos of his food for Instagram. Now we have the goddess of sex and war, Freya, portrayed as a horny, crazy cat lady! This tongue in cheek attitude towards the all-powerful gods is a joy to read.
In That Good Mischief the torment runs deep. The sheer audacity of Odin and Loki’s plan to save Sigyn is unbelievable and it can hardly be expected to work. Prices will have to be paid by all involved – some life-threatening and others heart-breaking but the tension of these scenes as the plan is put into action will keep you turning pages right up until the jaw-dropping end!
I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys light-hearted humour, action, mythical creatures and petty, selfish gods, all served up with a large dollop of tormented romance. What more could you possibly ask for?
Thank you to Lyra Wolf for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!
Banished from Asgard, Loki has settled down in California to live out his days with Sigyn by his side. As she attends school to become a doctor, he enjoys life lounging in the sun and causing mischief for those who cross the line. But when Sigyn comes home and collapses, causing a surge of dark magic, Loki suddenly finds his happily ever after on pause. Surtur is trying to break free, and if he does, not only will Loki lose Sigyn, but the very world will be destroyed. There is only one God with the knowledge and power to help, but it means ripping open old wounds and facing down past demons.
Loki is a character I will never tire of reading about. Especially the one portrayed in The Nine Worlds Rising series. Loki is a character who uses sarcastic humor and wits to arm himself against whatever emotionally comes his way. He’s quick to outthink the best of the Gods and cause mischief among them, but all for what he views as the better cause. The amount of ridicule he has to endure for being different is heartbreaking. But he refuses to back down, despite the continued abuse he endures from the Gods and their devious ways. Loki is a beautifully complicated character to follow.
Lyra Wolf isn’t afraid to show the messy and difficult parts of love. As some of Loki’s past deeds come to light, Sigyn must come to terms with his actions. And while their arguments may be full of anger and resentment, there is also a desire to understand one another. I appreciate that Sigyn thinks through all the angles and tries to see through Loki’s eyes. She doesn't assume and make immediate judgments. And any actions she does take that are born of anger she analyzes and tries to find the root of her feelings. Such complex emotions pull the reader in, allowing them to engage with the characters on a whole new level.
But the past doesn’t just haunt Loki’s current relationship. Embarking on a quest with Odin means he will have to relive the tender moments they once shared. It doesn’t help that Odin constantly brings up old buried memories. Ones that at the time were wonderful and fulfilling, but now bring a shadow of regret and disappointment. Loki is fully focused on making his current relationship with Sigyn work, despite the many challenges they have faced. His passion for their love is so strong, that he will do anything to see Sigyn safe. Even if it means confronting his unresolved feelings for Odin and the love they once shared.
That Good Mischief is a fast-paced and nail-biting ride as Loki races to save Sigyn. Surtur won’t go down without a fight and Loki must also contend with the spiteful anger of the Gods standing in his way. I enjoyed every minute of Loki’s sarcastic humor and determination to save Sigyn. I cannot wait for the next book!
Pros: -Gender fluid rep is so much better in this book -The tension has me holding my breath -Dual POV -Beautiful romance and heartbreak -Lots of action. Lyra knows how to get you going -Loki’s character development -Very engaging -More backstory and past conflicts revealed for every character
Cons: -The main character losing their powers trope (and not committing fully) -Huge cliffhanger -Lack of racial diversity -Harsh portrayal of female goddesses -grammatical errors (few and far in between)

The ending had me stressed!! I need the next book now!! Still love this series and thought this one was a lot of fun and full of high stakes!! Loki and Sigyn, I’m rooting for you! 😤
What can I say? Another amazing book in this series. The character development 👏 The plot 👏 I love everything about this series. Can't wait to dive into the next book!
render me speechless. when I think that the author couldn't surprise me anymore, she ruins that concept. the amount of tears, sweat, blood... THE YEARNING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN... I'm not alright after this 😫
As always, wonderful. Just the right amount of anguish, pain and regret, mixed with Loki's love and Sigyn's loyalty. I love knowing more about the past shared by Odin and Loki. Also those scenes are so well written that it is impossible not to cry. We also know more about Loki's family, and that rather makes me want to split a few faces. And Sigyn, oh, Sigyn. I don't know if I can love some characters more than I love Loki and Sigyn. It hurts me a lot to see them go through so much trouble. I just want them to be happy T.T The climax is magnificent, epic and at the same time painful and full of tension. Loki worthy lol The following book is a 100% guaranteed read.
My favorite book in the Nine Worlds series so far!! Absolutely loved this Loki and the world Lyra has created around him! I highly recommend this series and be sure to read it in order!
this book was so so wonderful! i’ve read the first two books in the series and lyra never fails to keep me engaged through the whole thing
the only thing that’s keeping me from putting 5 stars is the antagonization of the female goddesses i didn’t think about it when she made frigg a villain type character, but then seeing freya being a very snooty cold hearted queen type, it started to put me on pause
i understand wanting to put a twist on characters as well as having different types of villains, but having the main antagonists being these very beautiful powerful goddesses, it tends to paint them in a bad or just incorrect light (sort of like making hades a villain type in a lot of his stories)
granted this is coming from a pagan witch who has come in contact with gods before and got to know they’re true character, and loki is my patron, and i would say he’s proud of me for reading so much about him haha
again this is coming from someone who just cares very deeply about how gods are portrayed, other than that, this book and series is outstanding, and lyra definitely deserves the love that her and these books get ❤️

DNF. I might go back and finish, but it’s so similar to the last one, and I’m nearly as engaged as I remember being before. It reads quickly, but nothing really seems to be happening. Nothing feels momentous. This and the last book could probably have been combined? Given the breakneck pace I remember the last one proceeding at, and the sense of urgency. This one lacks that. Not a writing problem, but my copy of the book is also SO uncomfortable to hold - it’s a very stiff binding with hard sharp corners, and pages keep coming loose. I know for sure it makes me not want to read it.
Was the plot a bit predictable? Yes. Did I still really enjoy this? Yes! I feel like this is where the author really consolidated how she wants to write the story and her characters. In the previous books, I had several moments where I would slightly grimace at parts of the writing because it would come across quite juvenile. Here, I don’t recall having that issue. The characters feel more solid and realized, and the plot is quite fun despite it’s predictability. The only character I didn’t feel was necessary is the Loki twin…
There were some amazing and heart felt romantic lines in this books. This is definitely more of a love than obsession theme that was seen in previous books.
The story is predictable in some ways but with enough little jumps to stop it being boring. The final few chapters were impossible to put down and I just had to keep reading.
As always the ending is a cliff hanger that lets you know things aren’t over. So I’m off to read book 4 now!
I loved reading this! I was lucky enough to win a giveaway of a free Audible copy and have been kept thoroughly entertained by the sass and snark on my mailruns! I adore Casey Eade's narrations; I love how realistically the characters read, and the character growth that Loki especially went through in this book - I can't wait for the next one!!
The best in the series so far. I love that this one had so much focus on the core characters. They all showed so much growth. I've got high hopes for the next one but, honestly, three books in and this feels like a completed trilogy. I'm curious where the next one will go because it felt like the plot came to a conclusion.
OMG I've been waiting for this audiobook (listened to the first two kinda like to stick to format) and it dropped today and I finished it. Just loved the story and the path Loki has been on, how much he, hell everyone, has grown and changed.
This series is incredibly well written, wildly filled with passion and action. The characters are well defined and beautiful. Can't wait for the next book!
this one was as good as the first one! brought back the really good plot and character development and foreshadowing. really love this series so far its definitely a hidden gem
In my opinion That Good Mischief is the best book in The Nine Worlds Rising <3 You can empathize with the characters and understand their actions. The end of the book was very heartbreaking to me, and I'm not one that cries about book very often, but this one gave me tears.
