English title is Light in the Deep Alley. 121 chapters, 3 extras
✔️Modern ✔️Age gap (10 years) ✔️Music industry ✔️ML is in a long term relationship in the beginning (but no cheating between the MC/ML) ✔️Past trauma for both
Qin Qingzhuo: MC, 28 when they meet, talented and famous musician (plays multiple instruments and can sing) but quit 4 years ago (late reveal as to why and you will shed tears), likeable with a solid friend group, apparently pretty rich
Jiang Ji: ML, 19, very unlikable and almost hostile initially (for reasons ofc), a young beginner talented singer and guitarist, comes from a really tough situation and really just doing the best he can on his own with 8 y/o Jiang Bei,
Almost DNF'd because 1) I did not like the ML at all (thankfully this was rectified about halfway through) and 2) It's hard for me to get behind/believe in a new relationship that starts almost immediately after a breakup- especially if they were together 4+ years. This turns out not to be a problem.
Some things I enjoyed: -Large adult friend group -Once they got together. It was so sweet and much easier to see how it could work out long term. Jiang Ji's true personality came out and was much more mature than I thought (although still very inexperienced emotionally). -The second half, specifically the last 25% really got to me emotionally. I was finding chances to read it throughout the day but still had to put it down because tears -Slow burn. I needed this with the age gap and the MC just getting out of a long term relationship
Qin Qingzhuo's "I'm sorry" was too light, unable to fill the crack left by those words in his heart . 😭
Not my favorite: -I've discovered that I don't care for age gap relationships when the younger person is immature or just in a completely different stage of life. This was borderline for me but I still really ended up enjoying it once a few things were fleshed out about Jiang Ji. It helped that they did have a deep connection over music and that he was willing to listen and learn. -Not a fan of lots of lyrics (or poetry) in books. I tend to skip them and you should not do that in this novel. Especially the last song.
I think if you love music, the entertainment industry, competitions, etc you might enjoy this. I prefer Soul Vibration but there are a lot of similiarities.
It was a very romantic book. I’ve never used that word to describe a book before, even when there is romance in it, but this book is truly romantic. There’s tension, character development, showbiz, and a ten-year age gap. I absolutely adore the main characters and felt deeply attached to them.
"Finally, I looked up and saw the moon, it was within my reach."
I have no words on how to describe this danmei ( seems like a regular thing for me right?) I'm just amazed with the way these stories are written and the way they tug my heart even though it is a way different culture and language, I think that's the beauty of writing and reading books. You belong to every world and every culture.
Jiang Ji's character at start is going to sour you but I promise his backstory is going to make you want to protect him. ( It's not a spoiler!!!) And I promise I'm not defensive about a scumbag, he's just a character who knows his rights and wrongs even though he's young.
As for QQ honestly I relate with the way JJ describes him, he's a star untainted but gone through such harsh realities of his life, but he still keeps being kind and a person who always keeps trying his best even though the circumstances don't allow him..(I think everyone of us should strive to be a person like that).
Both of them are polar opposites, yet the way they intertwine with each other feels the most natural.
If you are someone who enjoys a good playlist of songs (I'm listening to fall into my dream, it's so soo good) , a younger gong x an older shou, an idol x an producer (ex-idol) story, this is for you. <3
The way they fight through everything and the way they are so considerate of each other as well as so down bad for each other, also I promise the ML JJ is one of the best ML out there.🫶
i liked many things about it, i had so many emotions throughout jiang shang qin journey!! i deeply enjoyed the way tan shi portraits the psychological traits of the two main characters, not only as a couple but as individuals, together beating their psychological shadows in order to construct a happy future and present for themselves and their loved ones. bc you cant really be happy or love someone if you have non resolved problems, youre not letting yourself be happy and truly free, youre always afraid and thinking everything is going to hurt you, so you prevent yourself off vulnerability and stays secluded. but this is only hurting yourself and ppl that cares abt u. and they helped it others understand that through dialogues, they inevitably become each other support. one thing that remained with me is that qin qingzhuo said they had different ideals, but in the end, they are two individuals afraid of hurting themselves more than their current self. i did expect more of asperatus, their backstories, affairs, but i understand that the main appeal was jiang shang qin ........ although i was bored close to the end.....

I just couldn’t continue on with ml selfishness. If one doesn’t want to sing and is not comfortable, let it be. you can’t cure the trauma by reminding them of it, every second so.
dropped it, didn’t continue after chapter 110, in my head, I will forget that they ever had a fight and all those things happened, that just so the other 90 percent of the story wouldn’t be ruined to me, because everything perfect turned into a mess.
