After the events leading up to the Blood Trials, Lyrinn finds herself in a land more beautiful and dangerous than any she's ever known.
Eager to return to her home, she is stunned when she encounters a figure from a past she barely remembers...and can only hope to find her way to the future she so desperately desires.
K. A. Riley is a writer of speculative and science fiction, dedicated to creating worlds just different enough from our own to be entertaining, intriguing and a little frightening all at once. For Riley, writing isn't a job. It's a laboratory where readers can wander into a land of ideas; it's a playground where they can scamper around, giggling, gasping, and freaking out to their hearts' content.
Riley is the top-secret pen-name of a NYT and USA Today best-selling author.
My greatest summary of this book comes from a quote from its own pages: "It isn't up to done powerful Entity to determine our future. it's up to us."
I have always been a firm believer that there is some universal power out in the universe such as fate but always held the idea that my future is my own. This book embodies that feeling. Everyone is keeping something from Lyrinn and every page leads the reader to discovering the missing information. That drive to figure it out, leads to turning the pages as fast as you can. The intrigue alone made me love this book but the new characters truly sold it for me. I always love a character who is devoted to the main character beyond protecting their health but also their heart and wellbeing. That was given to me in the form of Lark. He is certainly my favorite new character and I hope to see him in the next book!
A Crown Broken kept me on the hook for so long as I could not figure out what was being kept from Lyrinn until the author wanted it revealed. Which is a major plus in a book for me since I can usually figure out the plot.
Wow this book and the characters within were so complex, each one developing into something a little unexpected. I really enjoyed seeing Lyrinn grow and finally trust in herself. True dedication from Lark was neat and the fact Lyrinn found love, friendship and betrayal with others that were surprising. Lyrinn is a heroine but didn't even know it and I like how the author presented it where it was genuine and realistic.
There was a great balance between history telling and action in this book and it was relevant to the story, not just a filler like in other books I have read before. This book has surprises all throughout, some of which were predictable and some that weren't.
Overall an excellent story which was well thought out and executed. It was easy to get lost in the story and feel like you were really there which is something I enjoy with the fantasy genre.
That was an unexpected twist. I hope Kaz survived. I would like the sisters to get to know their father without false pretenses this time.
I did see some of the twists coming, but it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story.
My only dislike is that her father allowed her to make assumptions and accusations towards him and didn't bother to correct her. I hate when stories do that.
As always, characters are either super charming or incredibly morally grey to the point you can’t tell who’s being most honest to Lyrinn and it makes you really feel for her. Her mom is… a lot. Her dad is not what you expect at all even after they try to spell it it for you and overall it’s a really good sequel imo

i was ready to give this one a 4 star review because i lost interest in the story and pushed myself to continue. I hate when things are obvious but the main character doesn't pick up on them. The ending seemed obvious but i was wrong and honestly, even within the last 50 pages i couldn't figure out what would actually happen. So I've changed it to a 5 star. For unpredictable plotlines and plottwists, there is no finer author than KA Riley.
I really wanted to like this book. I did finish it and the second half is much better than the first. There is a really good story here but I struggled with the constant feeling of whiplash - the emotions and relationships shift all the time and major things happen in the space of one sentence so it is hard to digest.
It’s a great story, I’ll read the next one for sure. But the writing hasn’t improved and the main character barely grows throughout this book. The “surprise” villain was also frustrating in their predictability. Basically I enjoyed it but I’d never recommend it.
Ahhhh I am so in love with Mithraan! That's all I need to say really.. hahaha. The characters really developed in this book along with the story! I loved seeing Lyrinn finally believe in herself and Lark is just the cutest! There's lot of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat, I couldn't put it down! Read these books!!
Ah! These cliffhangers are going to be the death of me! What in the world? Like epic story. Wee bit of spice but the plot?! That is what I am here for.
