Nita DeBorde

Nita DeBorde is a published author and teacher from Houston, TX. Writing and teaching are her two major passions, though traveling and being dog-mom to a crazy Staffordshire-Boxer mix named Mabel are high on the list as well.

Nita has taught high school French for more than 20 years and absolutely loves her "day job" job (about 95% of the time). She loves to travel, and not surprisingly, France is her favorite destination, though her home state of Texas runs a close second.

She is also a huge history buff, which comes through in her fiction writing, and particularly in her latest novel, Ghost Agents, a genre-defying, cozy paranormal mystery with a little sci-fi and romance thrown into the mix. Ghost Agents: Revelations, the second book in the Ghost Agents Trilogy, is slated for release in march of 2022.

Nita’s first novel, Project Lachesis, is currently available in both Kindle and hardcopy format from Amazon.com.

Her first published work, a Christian allegory titled Lessons from the Meadow, was published in December of 2013 under the pen name A.M. Ward. Stay tuned for more titles by A.M. Ward in the Christian fiction genre.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Ghost Agents: Retribution by Nita DeBorde is a well played execution of power.
Will Claire and the Bureau save the world from the Syndicate?
Claire Abelard
Claire is one of the strongest agents in the Bureau of Historic Preservation. She can do things that the other agents can't even understand. After the end of the second book, her powers are out of wack or amped up. Claire is the only one who sees the actual danger in the Syndicate.

We see lots of character growth in Claire in this installment. Her relationship with Drew is progressing well. She has the respect of the Bureau. Claire is trusting of her own decisions.
The Bureau
Ghost Agents Retribution CRThe world headquarters for the Bureau is in Paris, France. Claire and Drew head there to stop the Syndicate from unleashing mass destruction on the world or whatever their plan is at this point, we don't know.

The Bureau grows a bit by allowing Luke, Drew's brother (who can't see projects), to join the ranks. However, have they really grown? Are they ready to stop lying to the world about what they do and share their knowledge? Those questions are answered.

I like Fiorella, the Paranormal Investigation and Dispatchment Division International Director. She is based in Paris. Although she is part of the top level at the Bureau, she is also realistic and doesn't agree with everything the top guys are selling. I like that she trusts her mind and does what she can to make changes at the top. She is also lovely and friendly and listens to what others say before imposing her theories or conjecture.
Five Stars
I love the entire story and how Ms. Deborde wraps up some storylines. I hope this isn't the end of Claire, Drew, and the other Ghost Agents. My rating for Ghost Agents: Retribution by Nita DeBorde is five stars. I highly recommend this book to everyone that loves the paranormal. Ms. DeBorde spins a different take on the spirit world that is intriguing and refreshing.

Excitement and danger are on every page as the City of Lights plays host to this final chapter in the GHOST AGENTS TRILOGY!

Ghost Agents: Retribution is the third and final book in the outstanding Ghost Agents Trilogy, and folks at The Society for Historical Preservation certainly conclude business in style! This time, the action moves from Galveston and Boston overseas to The City of Lights, and author Nita DeBorde really brings it with an insider’s knowledge of the famous city. With the seamless inclusion of French dialogue (and English translations) and truly iconic sights around every corner, the reader will feel they are on the streets of Paris alongside agents Claire Abelard and Drew Mitchell. The author even slips in some delightful tidbits of history as our heroine and hero traverse the city, talking to well-known former residents.

Claire is such a good-hearted person, and protecting the projections from harm, especially unethical living human beings, is always foremost in her actions. That continues to be her goal here, along with saving the rest of the world from the bad guys. She’s surrounded and supported in her efforts by a loving family, and she and her brother, Zach, now seem to be working on the same page, making them a formidable team. The same could be said of her relationship with her love interest, Drew. Although still very much a romantic couple, the focus this time is more on their working together as a team. Thumbs up for Drew recruiting his brother, Luke, to the cause. I liked the siblings’ dynamic in the previous books and enjoyed their being back together in this one. All these characters are likable and engaging people.

One of my favorite things about this trilogy is the interactions Claire has with the projections (ghosts), and there are appearances by some famous names who are still hanging around town. The projections always seem to have entertaining quirks as they stay tethered to whatever spot they’ve felt was important to them during their Earthly life. I enjoy how the principals seek out these lingering spirits to get the low-down on what is happening in the city.

If you’ve been following the story (and you need to have read BOTH of the previous books in the trilogy to understand what’s going on), you know that Claire is still trying to discern the depth and breadth of her sensitivity and acumens. This thread is full of surprises in this book, with twists that made me gasp! Claire is such a good-hearted person, and protecting the projections from harm, especially unethical living human beings, is always foremost in her actions. That continues to be her goal here, along with saving the rest of the world from the bad guys.

And speaking of bad guys, all the old enemies return for this finale, and they haven’t gotten any nicer. The author has created evil characters that I looked forward to Claire besting at their own game. The plot is a nail-biter at times, though!

I recommend GHOST AGENTS: RETRIBUTION to readers who have read and enjoyed the previous books in the trilogy and the entire GHOST AGENTS TRILOGY to cozy mystery readers who like a paranormal foundation to their stories.

As always, I enjoyed Nita’s writing style. The story was easy to read and was filled with history, suspense and romance.
I was committed to the story quickly because it is the third book in the series and I was desperate to know what was going to happen to everyone. The storyline was very good. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book and felt like I was right there with Claire busy fighting off the Syndicate.

I was quite surprised by some of the outcomes and twists and turns. The suspense was getting to me at one point.
Like with the previous books, Nita described Paris very well and I could see it in my mind’s eye. This really adds to the overall feel of the story. Claire was fun to follow around but sometimes I wanted to smack her upside the head because of her recklessness.

I enjoyed all the different characters and their personalities. Nita did a good job of having a variety of different personalities to enjoy. Even the projections were really fun to get to know. I am a tad disappointed with the part of the ending that had to do with Claire’s energy and acumens but I’m hoping that Nita will make up for it with the short stories.

This is the last book of a three-book series but it seems that Nita is adding a few short stories and there’s a new spinoff from this story. I have my part one copy of Ghost Agents Lone Star and can’t wait to read it. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes ghost stories with a different spin on them. Or people who like Paranormal Romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this series.
