Let’s see. I can’t decide whether to write about a boyfriend out for revenge, or a “serial killer” who targets hikers, or maybe a biker gang. Oh, I know. I will just put it all into one book with really silly dialog. This will have a likable sheriff who gets stuck with all of it. He is a smart guy, but he and his girlfriend, a PSYCHIATRIST aren’t smart enough to use birth control. So we will throw in a surprise pregnancy. This sheriff, by the way, has an ex colleague that runs prostitutes out of a mobile home and the sheriff turns a blind eye. Pick and choose which laws to enforce? I tried, but it was too much…I couldn’t finish it.

This is a fantastic start to a new series, I am sure that "The Dalton Savage" series will be a big hit.
What Candy Ray overlooked, whilst working as a waitress at The Roadhouse HQ of the Outlaws biker gang, put a target right in the middle of her forehead..........she had to disappear or die.
Hawks Landing County Sheriff, Dalton Savage was having a quiet time with his pregnant psychiatrist girlfriend, Becca, when he was called out to investigate a missing person, Deputies James Thorpe, Becky Sinclair and rookie Deputy Littleton were his team
Tracking down the missing person was more arduous than any of them had imagined, the terrain was heavy and steep, the forests hid the light, they found a body but it wasn't the one that they were looking for, hope was fading of finding Candy alive, did they have a serial killer on their hands ?
This story unfolds in the most unexpected way, things are not what they seem to be, people are not who they seem to be, it incorporates an escalating body count, a multimillion dollar bank heist, brutal attacks, palpable fear, action and suspense.
What is on paroled convict Jessie Turner's mind when he set off in pursuit of his girlfriend ? the girlfriend who's testimony had put him in prison. What had Candy Ray overheard at The Roadhouse ? and where did the Violet Biker Crew fit into this ?
This is a roller coaster story enhanced by the author's descriptive powers, each problem solved leads to another, will Hawks Landing ever be safe. I look forward to reading the next book in this series

The first half of the book has 3 officers going up a mountain to rescue a lady. One is seriously injured by a bear, one is shot by the bad guy and the third, main character, is saved by the lady when she attacks the bad guy just before he kills the main character. She has handcuffs on that the bad guy took from the main character. She strangles the bad guy with the handcuffs. No search party or mountain rescue just
The three stooges. The second half has them going after Bank robing bikers. No FBI. Couldn’t wait to finish.

SNORE FEST.

Frankly, I’m surprise this has so many good reviews. The most random details are thrown into sentences that make no sense. Why is the main character turning a blind eye to the fact an ex-cop is running a brothel it seems?? Why is this the most clearly written by a man book ever? It was my first read on Kindle Unlimited and I sure do hope there’s something better on the horizon from it because what even was this book.

A new beginning

I am sorry that Savage and Hatch did not vet together because they made an amazing team. The team that Savage is building has lots of potential and Becca seems a strong anchor for him. Can't wait til the next book gets released.

Reads like a modern Western

So this story comes in two parts.

The first half takes place up in the mountains. The second half takes place in the small town.

I definitely preferred the first half more. It had the elements that I liked, like being on the trails, nature and dealing with bad guys out in the natural setting. There were surprises as well, many unexpected. Lots of action, both with guns and with fists (plus other handy natural weapons too). The stakes were high. And people were dead.

And just when I had thought the problems were solved (I could see there was still plenty of book left though by the page count) the problems grew more bigger and complicated. This part I was ok with but I definitely preferred the first half better.

And the characters in here are not immune to damage. They get hurt bad and yes they can die. Even the good guys. You know how some authors are with the main characters seeming to be survive everything without a scratch? Well not in here.

But I never actually felt they were in actual danger? I just presumed it would end ok.

This book actually reminded me of a modern Western, one that has smart phones, cars, helicopters and other advanced gadgets. But the story plot is very western like in nature with guns, battles and often being out in the rough elements.

A conniving mastermind

A young girl is reported missing. Is it her ex boyfriend who has gotten to her? Meanwhile two murders have been committed and Sheriff Dalton Savage is on the trail of the missing girl and the killer. A fast paced suspenseful thriller where Dalton has to survive the odds as the killer seems to have the upper hand. More facts come to light and Dalton has to use all his skills to find the mastermind. A page turner which was absorbing from start to finish.

Dalton finds himself searching for a woman believed running from her ex boyfriend. She testified against him, and he has recently been paroled after just serving 2 years of his sentence. He is searching the trails in the mountains near his city when he stumbles on a body. Believing the killer to be the ex con, and that the killer is now after her, he stretches himself to the limit. But, who is the real killer, and what is he after? ENJOY.

Two brilliant authors One Brilliant Book!
This is written by Biba Pearce and L. T Ryan both fantastic authors and giving us a brilliant crime thriller book and a book that grips your interest from the first page!”
The story is set around Dalton Savage the Hawks Landing sheriff in a small quiet town in Colorado at the base of the Rockies. Dalton who came from a big city cop used to city violence murders and chaos now trying to enjoy a calmer life in the sleepy town with his fiancé Becca.
The heat turns up when a young 22 year old women “Candy” goes missing and at the same time her ex boyfriend who she had helped put away through her testimony and just recently paroled and known to make threats and wanting revenge against her comes “Prime suspect!” But things soon change and the case becomes something else as a development spins the case upside down. The manhunt leads Savage and his team up the Colorado Mountains where they face not just the hunted but the wild animals too.
Being faced with a ruthless maniac and cold killer Savage risks everything to bring Candy home and the killer to justice. A great tight written story with lots of twists and turns also a book not to be missed and one to be enjoyed.

Great New Start!
Dalton Savage was a favorite character from the Rachel Hatch series, so grabbing this audiobook was a no-brainer. Savage is purely himself in this fast-paced, rocket-fueled thriller. He and his deputies have a mess of a case on their hands, with things spiraling out of control at every turn. But his dogged determination and desire for justice won't let him walk away from the rising flood of trouble, and he's not inclined to ask for help.

Readers can enjoy this new series whether they've met Dalton in the previous stories or not. This one stands alone, although there is a certain amount of character sharing since this is Hatch's hometown. I only have one small regret about this series. I was hoping that Hatch would come back and resume her relationship with Dalton Savage at some point. They were an interesting couple. But that's looking less likely after having read this story. I'll just have to see how things develop.

Fans of crime novels, police procedurals, thrillers, and testosterone-driven plotlines will enjoy this story!

I’m surprised by all the good reviews of this book. I thought it was pretty bad. This needed some better editing/research. It’s very obvious at least one of the authors is not American. There were terms used by the characters that an American wouldn’t use: scan vs. ultrasound, satnav, windscreen. There were also errors as noted by other reviewers: the age of one of the characters kept changing, and the same bear was described as both a grizzly and a black bear, like within the same paragraph. There aren’t even grizzlies in Colorado.

The plot was all over the place. Ex-boyfriends out for revenge, serial killers, a bank robbery, a retired officer who runs a brothel (and our main character just turns a blind eye to that), witness protection, a biker gang- I’m sure I’m forgetting something. Even with all that, the book dragged. It took me days to finish, and I finally had to force myself. I will not be continuing on with the series. This book did get me to cancel Kindle Unlimited, so it had that going for it!

I don't really know where to start. This book isn't exactly bad, but it isn't good either. Dalton Savage is a pretty good character, and I like the people he works with, and his girlfriend even though they were all fairly one dimensional. So... there's the good part.
Lots of little errors, like a grizzly in Colorado, a 'he' who suddenly became a 'her' and this was done by a doctor, too. I'd expect a doctor to know the difference. Anyway, there are a few things like that.
Endless descriptions of the mountains, trails, loose dirt, rocks, boulders, trees, blah blah blah.
As to the story ...stories? There's two plots. We get through one 'case' only two be thrown into another one and it shouldn't have happened that way. It's like the police dumped all their eggs in one basket and never paid attention to anything else. Plus one character could conceivably be said to have 'obstructed justice.'
My husband recommended this series to me and he warned me that the first two books were less than stellar so I'll probably read the next book...maybe...we'll see.

Pretty boring - read on KU

This book is well defined by the blurb. The investigation, if you want to call it that, is split into two parts, and the first one doesn't really have anything to do with the story.

Spoiler ahead.

For about half the book, the cops are chasing whoever is chasing Candy through the forest. That turns out not to be the culprit they're really after. Candy just gets unlucky and happens upon a serial killer while hiding out in the mountains. That chase us so very boring. And ridiculous. As another commenter noted, it's been raining for ateadt hours and a helicopter sets down (in the mountains no less) and their vision is messed up by the dust cloud it creates.

Someone stated they guessed Biba Pearce actually wrote this. Since she is British and LT Ryan isn't, I would say that is likely the case, as much of the grammar is British.

I won't read more by this pair.

I see the spinoff character from Rachel Hatch books, which I loved (all 9). I like this one, but I do not see Dalton Savage as a durable character with further intriguing or compelling adventures. It just doesn't happen to small town Sheriffs that often. We will see.

I am kind of curious about the practice of prolific authors, like L.T. Ryan and Lee Child to franchise their name, and I wonder how deeply these novels are controlled by the main author. I suppose the practice was started by Tom Clancy, who lives on after death in the antics of Jack Ryan.

Sometimes you can feel the pen of a woman in this book. The emphasis on the wife and Savage's relationship drip a bit of estrogen.

This new series by two authors, L.T. Ryan & Biba Pearce, with protagonist Sheriff Dalton Savage begins with intrigue, then slaps you with a shocking encounter, right off the bat. Then it keeps on slapping you with the twisting, turning, nail biting and heart beating pages, right to the satisfying ending. It’s almost too much to absorb, being more than one story here! It leaves Sheriff Savage with only one loose end that needs cleaning up, which I’m sure will be dealt with in book #2. These authors kept me guessing, then pulling a surprise on me more than once in this story! As an ARC reader for Biba Pearce, I highly recommend it and I’m looking forward to the tying up of the last loose thread in book#2. This is my honest opinion. Kudos to both authors - 5 stars.

Plot twist

Dalton Savage definitely has his work cut out for him in this little town. He's got a great team beside him and they have a great work dynamic. The plot was pretty dicy from the jump. Candy has gotten herself wrapped up with the rough side of the town and things just keep getting worse for her. As if the plot wasn't already thick, throw in a big bad biker gang and things get really complicated. Dalton Savage has his family and work life clash but his fiancee Becca's is taking it all in stride.

In my opinion there were a lot of repetitive sentences, some obvious parts of the plot, then it just got to be to many bad things happening at once. Candy is for sure going to need a new life after testifying not only against Jesse but the biker gang.

Savage Grounds is book 1 in the Dalton Savage by Biba Pearce (and also L T Ryan). It is available to buy now. It’s a new series set in the US. I am predominantly a UK crime reader but I really enjoyed this. Savage is the County Sheriff in Hawk’s Landing and he has a good team behind him. They are a great mix of characters. A woman is abducted in the mountains and Savage is on her trail. The tension is high as they try to find her before it is too late. There are a couple of different threads to the story which makes for a fascinating read. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing how this series develops

It’s the first book of a serie and I can only hope the next ones will be better.
This one is slow paced, no twist, everything is totally predictable, the “ good ones” escape unscathered from all kind of predicaments be them a bear attack, a bullet on the chest or a savage beating, the “bad ones” confess after 30 seconds of police questioning and it’s almost like there are two stories in one book, there are unrealistic characters like an ex cop now running a “soft “ prostitution ring, criminals falling into the most obvious police traps, a cop stealing a chopper to rescue a missing girl, a serial killer whose crimes have until now gone completely unnoticed, etc, etc

Refreshing!

This is a really refreshing story to read! Saying this reminded me of my times in Law Enforcement. Dalton Savage, (at least as far as this story is concerned) comes off as a truly good, if not great cop. Having left law enforcement and did a small stint in a small town police Department, (coming from a State Police Agency), I can totally feel the connection to the character. The story in and of itself was fictional, however the way the story played out, I was totally taken into drama lay out by the author! Don't know if L.T. Ryan ever been in Law Enforcement, but the story and the characters resonated with me. Ordering the next installment now!

If you liked the Rachel Hatch books, you will love the Dalton Savage books, as they are very similar. This is the first in a series that places you back in the hometown of Rachel Hatch and Dalton Savage, the new sheriff. He is new and has a new group of Deputies. There is a missing person report, which leads to an investigation. Soon, there are murders on the trail taken by the missing person, which one thinks is the theme of the book, but we later learn the disappeared girl is linked to a Biker Gang and a Bank Robbery that follows the successful rescue of the missing girl. It is only the beginning of further intrigues and lots of fun reading.

Action-packed, fast-paced, suspenseful mystery!

A great new series to read. Dalton Savage was in love with Rachel Hatch, but he did not hear back from her and tell in love with someone else and he was going to be a father. This book has many twists and turns. L.T. Ryan and Biba Pearce write so compellingly with intrigue and suspense with a few subplots. They keep you guessing and wondering what will happen next. This is a must read if you like suspenseful mysteries. I loved this book! Happy reading! 😊

DNF-

I read the reviews and was so hopeful for this book- In trying to expand my generes I thought I would give it a chance! IMO it was too slow for me, there are some things that caught my attention and kept me reading but when I realized I was 70% in & I had no desire to finish it, it was time to put it down. Lots of characters, and an at times confusing story line. I think the text itself is written exceptionally well, but the story line & plot are less than stellar.

Could be a good, quick read for someone else, but not for me!

Sheriff Dalton Savage Triumphs

Dalton Savage is the Sheriff of a small town. A young woman has gone missing. A body has been found on the mountain trails outside of town.
The young woman's boyfriend was just released from prison. Her testimony convicted him. A lead suggests she is taking refuge on the same mountain that the body was found.
The body is that of a hiker, his head beaten with a rock.
The boy friend is suspected of the murder of the hiker and in pursuit of his ex girlfriend for revenge.
Nothing is as it seems .
Twists and revelations make this a page Turner.

If I could have done a half I would have done. Non of it rang true, people saying things in ways that no human converses. Characters reacting and behaving in ways that didn't seem realistic. I live in the UK but even taking into account the differences the police procedures didn't seem accurate. I really struggled to get to the end. The character I warmed to most was Thorpe and he was a bit of a filler character really, but he was definitely the most likeable. I won't be reading any more of Sheriff Savage's cases, I was going to say adventures but that didn't seem to be an accurate description.

Just ok

This book had a serial killer & a biker gang and still managed to feel wholesome! It didn't have the edge to it like the Hatch series. But with Savage mentioning family every 10 pages and Becca being the perfect supportive wife there wasn't any room for anything heavy or unexpected. Its no fun if Savage is always right!
I'll check out the next book to see if its less predictable.

A Breath of Fresh Air

This book was not like anything I thought it would be. The setting in the mountains and the excellent descriptions took me back to my younger days hiking in the mountains of Eastern Oregon and later in Utah. Combine with the visual pictures the story line was outstanding. It was suspenseful and had many twists and turns. A bonus was the tie in to the Hatch series I had not expected.

Dalton Savage, Sheriff

A small town Sheriff Dalton Savage usually has slot of peace in his small town. But a small gang of miscreants become big time bank robbers on Daltons watch, and now he must figure out who holds the power within the robbers, so he can get the money back. It all begins to go wrong when his girl friend is kidnapped. What happens to the gang with the money, the girlfriend, and himself? This is a great read!

Mystery, Action A Little Romance

L.T. Ryan and Biba Pearce have a winning combination in hero Dalton Savage. Sheriff Savage takes on a biker gang as he unravels a mysterious series of seemingly unrelated deaths on hiking trails in the Colorado Rockies.
A bank heist, some unlikely suspects and human complexities contribute to what seems like a second novel added on to end the story. Great escape read for me after some intense holiday activities!

The plot was good. The characters were likable. Savage was annoyingly cowboying it up and acting stupidly rash during the first half of the book. He behaved more professionally in the second half of the book. The writing was simplistic at times. Also Colorado hasn’t had any grizzly bears since 1952. Also the villain in the first half of the book seemed kind of out of place. The first and second halves of the book seemed like two different stories making the book disjointed.
