"Reisinger charts a trustworthy and rewarding course through the narrow passage. He does so as a a fellow pilgrim, a pastor, and a teacher in the church of Jesus Christ. His passion for the subject comes through on every page. This book not only should be read, but should be studied diligently by every child of God who has any interest in seeing biblical Christianity flourish in our churches once again." - Dr. Tom Ascol
A helpful reminder for every pastor, and a helpful guide for every church member. This book is worth your time, but don’t read it too fast. Take time to eat this book, and give ample time for digestion. This book will nourish your soul.
Honestly one of the best books I’ve read on the topic. Concise and organized, and the polemical aspects deal with much of what we are dealing with in the modern church today. Would recommend everyone in ministry to read this one multiple times and keep it close at hand.
Defining and distinguishing the law and the Gospel is of central relevance to our faith and hope to blur this line of distinction is to fall into the errors of antinomianism or legalism. This book is an outstanding contribution to the Church to help us keep our eyes on Christ and to walk in obedience to His will and grace. I would certainly consider using this for a group study or Sunday school curriculum. Well worth the read!
The book feels more like a collection of Reisinger's thoughts on this important topic than a sustained, consistent examination. He tried to organize everything into categories and chapters without really editing them into book form. It doesn't flow very well.
He does have some helpful bits. His emphasis on keeping the law and gospel together is a good reminder. This is a theme he rightly hits over and over again, and he warns you of possible errors if you lose this connection.
But it's so unfocused at times, so choppy, I can't even say it would be a good introduction. And anyone looking for a more detailed treatment will also find better books.
