Christmas on Firefly Hill

Rate this book
The single dad and the rootless vagabond. Expect: a shy, hunky firefighter and an ethereal dancer down on his luck. A sizzling contemporary MM age-gap holiday romance. Mild hurt-comfort, found family, and friends-to-lovers galore.

Firefighter Logan Halliwell doesn’t have much time for romance. A relentless work-life-balance and an expensive divorce have sucked the festive cheer from his days. All he wants is to be a good dad. A fun dad. Especially at Christmas.

He doesn’t know how lonely he is until he meets Remy Collins, a gorgeous fire dancer at a sultry summer festival.

Their instant connection blows his mind, but their fleeting encounter is over before Logan can catch his breath. One kiss and they’re strangers again. That wicked brush of lips nothing but a dream.

Long months pass. Then fate brings them together again at the summit of Firefly Hill, and absence has only strengthened the current thrumming between them. The heat. The precious chance of true happiness they both so desperately need.

Only fear stands in their way.

And Logan’s dangerous job.

It takes a tough lesson and a dose of winter magic to learn that loving each other means Christmas all year round.

Christmas On Firefly Hill is an MM holiday romance, featuring a burly single dad firefighter, and a vagabond dancer/jewellery maker. Delivering a guaranteed HEA, all the Christmas feels, and a hefty dose of British snark.

I quite enjoyed this story for the first half or so, but it started dragging for me in the second half. I skimmed over the intimate scenes and I found the rest of it predictable.

Also, I expected it to feel more Christmassy and lighthearted. It wasn't necessarily heavy, but something about Logan's character and the writing style in this one left me feeling exhausted.

Christmas on Firefly Hill is a stand alone, MM, holiday romance by Garrett Leigh. I have only read Garrett’s Rebel Kings MC series so far and am madly in love with her writing. I was told I needed to read this next because one of the MC’s is the twin brother to a character in Rebel Kings. But, where Rebel Kings is a gritty but also swoony biker series, this book is the sweetest, most wonderful, most heart warming, loveliest book! Be still my heart. I was entranced from the first page on. The writing is so beautiful. I was completely bewitched by these characters.

Logan Halliwell is thirty eight years old, is divorced and is co-parenting his seven year old twin boys with his ex-wife. He’s also a firefighter. He wants to be the best dad to his boys. But he just can’t seem to pull the corners of his life together. Between working and trying to make the most of his time with the boys, he’s barely holding on.

He was working a summer festival when he first saw him, the fire dancer that literally changed him at the cellular level. They barely touched. A light brushing of their lips and he was lost. The connection he felt was magical. But then he was called away and it was over. Except for his dreams. He was visited every time he slept by the beautiful man who danced with fire.

Remy Collins is twenty six years old. He is both a dancer and makes beautiful jewelry. The night he met the gorgeous firefighter, it felt like a moment that was changing him. But then he was gone. Then his world changed again and not for the better. Until he finds himself on Firefly Hill and that beautiful firefighter is standing in front of him. Fate has finally decided to give him a break.

These two! Both of these men were barely hanging on. Both of them needing something in their lives to change, just not knowing what. Until they were brought back together. Until those pieces finally started clicking back together. I think I swooned the entire time I read this. It’s so opposite from the Rebel Kings series. This is one of those books that makes you all warm and squishy inside. But one thing that is the same as the Rebel Kings series is the beautiful writing. It’s practically poetic. I felt everything. I have grown to adore this author and can assure you that there will be more of her books in my future.

Fucking hell, this book!!!! You know when I said that I won’t find a Christmas read better than Con Riley’s? Well, I was wrong because this book here is my favorite 2022 read so far. I won’t write a big review, suffice it to say that I devoured this book. The writing it’s so so lyrical, so sensual ..I knew this author was fantastic but I didn’t expect this level of beauty and romance and sensuality. And it’s exactly my type of holiday read : real and meaningful and not the same cliche of only one bed, nonstop sex and Santa, baking and snowmen making . Remy, Logan and the boys stole my heart completely and I will reread this book next Christmas for sure.

This was like the perfect balance of sweet, wholesome, sexy and heartfelt with just the right sprinkle of Christmas spirit on top.

Remy and Logan meet at a festival where Logan is volunteering as a Fire Marshall and share one electrifying kiss before parting ways. Through happenstance Remy and Logan reconnect months later only to find that their chemistry is still as explosive as it was the night they met.

I’ll be honest, I had glanced over this and not picked it up the first few times I read the blurb cause I was a bit luke warm on the meet cute, don’t normally care about stories with kids and seasonal romances way to easily slip in to cheese city for my tastes, but all of those things really worked for me in this instance. Also I appreciate that Garret Leigh took a bit of a break from giving her characters massive traumatic back stories, and just gave them like a normal level trauma hahaha

I feel like I need to provide a bit of a heads up that this is pretty heavy on the insta-attraction, but honestly if you are surprised that romantic chemistry is established quickly in a 200 page romance book I don’t think I can help you lol. I thought that the connection here felt very lust at first sight in a way that was genuine to the characters.

I appreciate that given Leigh has such a massive back catalogue of books that even though all of her characters are interconnected and live within the same world as each other, you never feel punished for not having read the books that belong to the character cameos.

Also FINALLY I can say I have read a decent MM firefighter story. I mean not that there was a heap of fire fighting but what was there was very dramatic and engaging so that calls for a celebration.

Oh my goodness. That was so wonderfully beautiful, sweet, gorgeous, perfect and lovely!!!
The story itself may not be that special, but the writing was so beautiful. The characters so wonderful. Their interactions with each other, absolutely perfect. And Logan's kids ... 😍😍😍
The first kiss .... and the second kiss ... I don't even know what to say. Make sure you read it! It's a Christmas book, even if it's not just about the holidays and with an absolute focus on them. But it managed to put me in the right mood for Christmas.
And I love Remy. He's probably one of the best, most interesting and wonderful characters I've come across.
Oh and Logan, oh boy, perfect …

I anchor him closer, holding him in place, and he shudders, snatching a sharp breath. He likes that. Noted. I’m always careful with my overbearing size, but I’ve always longed for a lover who enjoys my strength and heavy weight. 🥰🥰🥰

The beginning or the end, it doesn’t matter. Every summer, every winter. Every Christmas, every spring. He’s my story. He’s my fucking heart. And I’m the luckiest man in the world. 💞💞💞

Thank you Nicole for putting this on my radar. 😘

* .・☆゚*・゚ Warm and sweet Christmas novella that people love for reasons I absolutely can relate to. Remy and Logan were wonderful together. Hot single dad and firefighter meets hot fire dancer with bad luck in his recent past.

He likes that.
Noted. I’m always careful with my overbearing size, but I’ve always longed for a lover who enjoys my strength and heavy weight.
Maybe I’ve found him.

There is something special about a Garrett Leigh Christmas novella.

I can't quite put my finger on what exactly makes them unique, but she always brings a touch of the realities of life to her books which make the feels so much more special.

Here we get a wonderful romance which has such a strong magical sense to it (not the sparkly dust fairy type but the kind of otherworldly connection one) that gives an almost hazy glow to the narrative which pretty much centres on life on Firefire Hill.

At the top of the hill is the rundown workshop where Remy drags his battered body and his dying Transit van full of the dregs of his life. At the bottom is the tiny cottage where fireman Logan lives, a part-time single dad to his twin sons Billy and Sam.

Their first meeting was a brief, but quite powerful encounter, at a summer festival when Logan was moonlighting as a fire marshall and Remy was one of the attractions.

Their eyes met during a fire dance and the sparks weren't just flying from Remy's poi (A pair of roughly arm-length chains with handles attached to one end, and bundle of wicking material on the other.)

Almost magnetically drawn to each other, they share an anonymous kiss under the moonlight before Logan is called away to deal with something else. Months pass and we catch up with Remy as he's struggling following a pretty bad accident at another festival.

What follows is just a beautiful, soul-deep exploration of what makes two people fall in love. They each find something in the other that makes their life better. No changes are made to accommodate this, simply an expansion of friendship into trust, sexual attraction into love, loneliness into a family.

I loved everything about this book, I couldn't put it down once I started reading, especially when I realised that Logan is Locke's twin brother. You can find Locke in Garrett's beyond epic Forgive Me Father book three of her Rebel Kings MC series.

I've already put in my request for Locke's story 🤣

So if you like your romances with a touch of grit, with a sense of danger that's always there because of Logan's job, but with hope, happiness and a pair of boys who'll steal away your heart, then don't miss out on this one.

One moment can change everything. One kiss can steal a heart. One chance can turn a course. And Garrett takes all three and melds the perfect holiday tale. I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t one of my most anticipated December reads. But it’s not an exaggerated truth that I loved every bit. Let me tell you why…

We start at a festival and I love going to music festivals with Leigh! The air is thick when Remy flits into Logan’s path. A flicker sparks and it’s not from Remy’s fire sticks. A fire dancer and a firefighter? Could there be a more fitting pair? Not here. In a blink, Remy is gone and Logan is left dazed and waking back in his hectic life. Parenting isn’t easy, especially for a dynamic duo of twin boys. Add in his single-parent status and his first responder fire and rescue responsibilities and you can see how sleep is a luxury Logan is often denied. Remy had a stroke of bad luck, but he’s never lost his bright spirit. He figures his stars are changing when he scores a workshop rental from a kindhearted and patient elderly man. Then Logan appears like his own North Star and he’s almost afraid to hope too much.

First responders live a life foreign to most. It’s not a job or simply a career, it’s a life that affects everyone in their circle. I appreciated how Garrett wove this thread delicately into the story. Logan’s ex doesn’t understand that Logan was never making a choice and nothing was or ever will be more important than his family. It takes a special person to run toward the danger everyone else is fleeing from but there’s something extra special about being their beloved. I feel honored and blessed to share my own first responder and personal hero with the world and I think Remy feels the same. The burdens they bear can often be suffocating and having a safe haven can be essential. Remy brings warmth and light and a solid presence to Logan’s home…and heart.

If you’re expecting Garrett’s typical whac-a-mole angst, (aka addicting bopping blasts that leave me grinning while I cradle my head and shield my heart) I’m sorry to disappoint you. This romp on the mountain is an easy ride. Well, except for the brush with…Nah, I’ll let you discover that one for yourself. How about what you can expect? The rarity of a sexy twin dad (ahem, you might know his Harley lovin’ brother) raising adorable twin boys. A free soul searching for the perfect place to plant roots. The magic of simple pleasures. An intimate concoction of hope and faith. And of course, good friends, good food, and good times. With its seamless writing, passionate characters, and satisfying conclusion, Christmas on Firefly Hill should be on every wishlist this holiday!

Beware of: It’s enchanting…from copper to ink, you won’t want to close your eyes. There’s hope…wishful and fanciful in all its glory. AND brilliance…prepare to be dazzled and blinded by their love.

This book is for: If you’re searching for a warm book hug, I highly suggest you take a stroll up Firefly Hill. I promise you won’t be disappointed. If you need any more encouragement, just take a look at the cover…seriously, how can you say no?!

On the lighter side of Garrett Leigh’s regular angst-scale, this very heartfelt, very British story—a love story between single dad and firefighter Logan and struggling vagabond artist Remy—held a veritable jackpot of my favourite tropes that, when mixed together, made for one truly lovely read.

• A slight age-gap
• Found family vibes
• Friends-to-lovers feels
• (Mythical) Cute kids
• A gentle-giant MC
• Mild hurt-comfort themes

This was insta-lust that developed into a love so deep it felt like kismet for these two men, who were just doing the best they could with the life circumstances they were facing. Their romance was soft and tender, and although the attraction and emotional draw to one another way instantaneous, their passion had a slow-burn sizzle to it that held me captive.

I always appreciate how real and gritty Leigh’s stories and characters are. The tone of this one, in particular, was much more slice-of-life and sombre in its telling, bordering on moods of melancholy and pensiveness felt by Logan and Remy at times, because of the life struggles they were facing, but that didn’t mean the story was slow or depressing in any way—simply, it was a more poignant and realistic take on a Christmas love story, featuring real people with real issues.

Undoubtedly, one of my favourite MM holiday romances of the season, Christmas on Firefly Hill brought all the feels and festive vibes to my Christmassy reading this year.

Sweet christmas novel.
The storyline and characters were ok, nothing negative, but nothing particularly impressive, either, comes to my mind.
I hadn't been impressed by the author's book Wildfire, a while ago, and wanted to try their books again because of some phantastic reviews I've seen for this, but I'll stay in the minority who isn't blown away.
Maybe my expectations were too high, I don't know.
The writing was medium, nothing special, sadly.

5 stars and more!! 🤩😍❤️❤️ I don't know if I'll get to read a better holiday romance this year.. but this book takes all the stars!! My absolute favorite for this year. It had the instant spark of the first meeting.. and then the tragedy of life.. then some magic by fate when the MC meet again in completely different circumstances and start to fall for each other. It's hard to describe the story.. because it's simple, realistic, angsty and yet so full of love 😍. I loved Logan and Remy.. ❤️ Both so full of love and just looking to find that someone to share it with. They both are lonely in their circumstance and need that special someone... yet even after they find each other they are both scared of adding to the other's burden and hide their feeling for a long time, despite the obvious passion for each other. 💕

It’s a pure kind of love I’ve never had. I absorb it, letting it warm my heart. This house, man. I didn’t want to come in. Now I don’t want to leave.

But the HEA despite the difficulties was so worth it. Logan's twin boys were adorable and even his ex seemed relatable. Was it Christmassy? Yes! 🎄 Was it hot? Oh yeah!! 🔥 Was it the best holiday M/M romance of the year? Yes yes!! 😍 Do I recommend it to one and all? Hundred times yes!! 👍 👍

Despite the title, it’s not a Christmas novel - it’s so much more, full of love and magic

It’s the story of Logan, a firefighter in his late thirties, divorced, with 2 lovely kids. And Remy, 26, who’s a fire dancer at a festival when they first set eyes on each other and share a kiss.

More than half a year later, Remy rents a shed to have a place where he can craft his copper-penny-art (necklaces, rings, table tops - I actually feel the urge to google it there’s something like this in real life 🥰).

He hasn’t forgotten the handsome stranger he shared a kiss with - turns out said stranger, Logan, is the landlord nephew and lives more out less next door.

Honestly. The story is so beautiful, so warm and magical and full of love and understanding. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the two men who - are first glance - are so very different.

Reading it made me swoon and gave me heart eyes - it’s almost poetic at times, and wrapped me in a warm, fuzzy blanket.

I mean - just read this scene. It’s so vivid, you almost feel the world stops spinning for a moment while this happens, right?

”Tunnel vision descends. I’m not anyone’s dad. I’m not a firefighter with a deathly blaze bearing down on me. This, right here. It’s just him and me climbing to an oblivion that’s going to shatter us and put us back together before we catch our breaths.”

🫠

5 stars, not because its a perfect book, but because it made me smile happily while reading (and even while writing the review).

Such a magical and dream-like meet-cute! Mysterious and sweet and left a really good impression on me.

The beginning or the end, it doesn’t matter. Every summer, every winter. Every Christmas, every spring. He’s my story. He’s my fucking heart. And I’m the luckiest man in the world.

This novella has no business being this good but I enjoyed it a lot and I loved both characters right at the beginning so it didn't matter that it's not a novel. It was complete and satisfying.

What a breathtaking, beautiful, romantic, emotional read, full of bone deep feelings.

Logan and Remy met a half year earlier, Remy as a delicate dancer with a flaming poi and Logan as a spectator and more the fire marshal at a summer festival.
There’s a spark between them and not from the poi. There’s an invisible connection, a sizzling heat. Facing each other and watching, observing almost obsessively. There’s one kiss and then Remy is gone. Out of sight, but never out of mind.

It takes a half year before they meet again. Stunned about the fact they live very near since Remy settled just upon the hill.

Remy does magic with Logan and his twins, they’re embraced by this warm and gentle soul.

The story is breathtaking, literally. Remy and Logan are so connected, it’s almost magical.
There are so many beautiful details I want to tell about, just read them yourself, really please do!
Remy and Logan together? Enchanting firework, solid as a rock, and beautifully developed.
It’s a romantic and physical story. It was mesmerizing, just like Remy’s flaming poi.
There are some stressful moments, but not between both men.
All the stars!

3.5-4 stars.

I’m a bit conflicted on how to rate this. On one hand, it was unlike any plot or relationship I’ve read in any other book. If you can write a book in this genre that manages to stand out from the sea of sameness, you win a gold star. I loved the ease of their intense attraction to each other. This is pretty low angst, but there is some outer angst.

The writing was just… a bit off? I can’t really put it into words. Maybe it’s the author’s style (I’ve only read one other book by her and it was eons ago), or maybe this one is just on it’s own, but it was kind of… depressing? I don’t know. I was tired and cold through the whole book because both MC’s are always tired and cold. There was passion and joy between them… it just felt kind of… dank? I don’t know. I can’t describe it lol.

I liked the build up to sex. It wasn’t hop on the sack first thing. The sex was again… written a little weird. I expected it to be set-your-pants-on-fire but… it wasn’t. But it wasn’t bad either. 🤔🤣

I swear I did enjoy this book for the most part, but something was off about it that prevented me from really feeling fulfilled. Also, NOT a holiday book. I feel like that was really just thrown in as an afterthought.

I think this may be a “it’s just me” thing or maybe I just don’t jive with the author’s style. I’ll still recommend it to my friends here.

Holey moley, but this story blew me away. I loved every minute of it.

In here we have Remy, a free spirit fire twirler and Logan, a divorced father of twins who is also a firefighter. One summer day, these two accidently meet when Logan was working a faire and share a barely there kiss. It affected them instantly. This was as close to having found your mate as you can get outside of the omegaverse and I loved it.

Months later finds Remy recovering from being in an accident and Logan being at the end of his rope with his life. Remy ends up renting out a shop/warehouse place at the top of the hill and does not know that the nephew of this nice fellow and person living at the bottom of the hill is Logan. You see, Remy has no money at all and is living on air.

They meet each other again and its instant sparks again.

Remy has deep issues about being close to people and Logan has deep issues with telling someone how he really feels. Eventually they figure it out and learn how to be with each other. I really loved the deepness of this connection. It felt real and believable.

I have not read the series that Logan's MC twin brother is in, but I am going to have to just so I know who the good looking friend he brought with him was.

November 2024: Upgrading to 5 stars for a great reread! I think I enjoyed this more the second time. Logan and Remy are great together. (12 year age gap.)

**a side note: Logan is the twin brother of Locke who features in some Rebel Kings MC books. Locke makes a brief appearance here with another “hot biker friend.” I still wonder who it was. Since Logan is 38 in this book, my guess is that it takes place around the time of the Rebel Kings book Forgive Me Father. (Locke is 38 in that book.) If I had to guess who was with Locke here, it would be Folk or possibly even Rocco. Maybe I’ll ask GL. 😉**

December 2022: This was a warm and fuzzy Christmas story. I really enjoyed Logan and Remy and I appreciated the fact that Remy’s nickname for Logan wasn’t overused.

For the first time I can remember, I wasn’t crazy with GL’s writing style and that’s why I’m only giving this 4 stars. There were a load of sentence fragments that made things feel stilted. I guess I’m more of a traditionalist when it comes to writing and I prefer full sentences for the most part.

Garrett Leigh is shaping up to an author I'm really enjoying and this is absolutely no exception.

Logan is a single dad and a firefighter. He's a busy guy trying to get by as best he can when he meets Remy. Fire dancer, jewellery maker and traveller. They share a kiss and then Remy is gone.

A little while later, Remy is back and the two still feel the phenomenal chemistry between them. The delight in this is the friendship that develops. The chemistry is there but they don't just immediately fall into sex.

This book gave me beautiful Christmas feels, an adorable couple, normal kids (I hate the 'special ones') a not -psycho ex, a hot AF twin whose book I need NOW and just generally good vibes.

A perfect Christmas read! 🌲❤️

Well, I still haven't found the book that screams Christmas to me this year. Definitely didn't give me much of a holiday feel, but this is a cozy, quiet romance, with two likeable MCs, plenty of heat, and no real drama or angst. The story mostly takes place in a bubble. When Logan and Remy briefly meet, it's one of those meetings where the electrical current zips between them. When they unexpectedly meet again a few months later, it's still there. Remy and Logan spend the next month or so in each other's orbit almost 24/7 as they fall in love and Remy integrates into Logan's family and life.

It was a slow pace and while I didn't lose interest in the book, I found myself hoping something more would happen to add some depth to the story. Maybe it was a little bit too cozy for my taste. I'm not sure what it was, maybe the writing style, but while I liked everything about the characters and their romance, I felt like something was missing. It did have some last-minute tension and we get to meet Logan's twin brother. The story was nice, but it just didn't wow me the way it has so many others.

I enjoy Leigh's Christmas books ... because they're usually LESS ANGST *laugh*.

Yes, sure, Remy suffered from accident that stopped his fire dancer career, and when he appeared at Logan's Uncle's place, Remy was broke and more or less homeless (Remy lives in his van). But the rest of the story is sweet, in my opinion. There's mutual pining (albeit only for a short time), there are kisses, there are lovely time with the kids (Logan's)...

The romance is sensual and intense at times... the conflict is not heavy, and Logan is quite determined to squash Remy's concerns anyway. And I love the side characters, Logan's friend and his twin brother (though Remy could use another friend outside Logan and his family)

So yes, lovely, LOVELY holiday book

Everything you’ll need for that perfect Christmas read!

Logan and Remy were simply delicious - they possess such a radiant depth that they capture your attention from the onset.

A wonderfully written story filled with warmth and humility.

This is only my second book by this author but I’m in love with the writing style already – crystal clear, sharp and witty. Which means that now I'm going to check out all of the other MM goodies in Ms Leigh's treasure chest. This is by far my favourite Christmas read so far... 💙💙

This year I read some very uninspired holiday stories, it seems that everyone "needs" to write one, no matter if they are in the mood or even have an idea for one.
In this book, Christmas is not the main attraction, which may disappoint some readers, but I really found it refreshing.
Still, it is a fitting holiday romance, with two loveable main characters, one a firefighter, one a free spirit, who travels the country, performing as a fire dancer - what an odd couple, but it works! The book also has the typical angst and drama free setting and two adorable kids.
Everything you need for a cozy afternoon at the fireplace. Maybe the insta love is a little too much, but still I really loved this book and this new found family! 4 stars

I do not know how Garrett Leigh manages to keep bringing such amazing, enthralling, evocative stories with characters who work their way under my skin and nestle next to my heart, but I'm ever so glad that she does.

Don't let the title fool you - while the bulk of the book takes place around Christmas, I would read it any time. Will certainly read it again.

The chemistry between Logan and Remy sizzles from the beginning, but beyond their physical attraction, they find a soul-deep connection that shines through the whole book and bound me to them as much as they became bound to each other. I fell so deeply in love with the characters, from firefighter Logan to fire dancer - metal artist Remy to Logan's young sons Billy and Sam.

And don't get me started on Locke, Logan's twin. I can't wait for his story. He's in the Rebel Kings series, but you don't have to have read any of those books to enjoy this one. I recommend reading that series because it's epic, but it's not necessary to read it first.

When I turned the last page, I wanted to crawl back in and spend more time in that world. To just go sit on Firefly Hill and watch the boys play, wander around Remy's shop, sit at the station with Logan and Galen. I feel almost like I've been in the land of the fae, and I want very much to go back there.
