Caleb Stillson is one of the best Combat Camera soldiers stationed in Iraq, documenting and editing films for the US military. During this deployment, he has been on countless patrols and raids that contained combat throughout Iraq, while being attached to every known unit. About halfway through his tour, Caleb heads back home to his wife and daughter for a much-needed break from all the combat for two weeks.
While back in Fort Meade, Maryland, Caleb starts to fall apart mentally. Symptoms of PTSD affect his ability to comprehend what is real and what is made up while out in Washington DC with his family. He sees his friend, however, that individual is still in Iraq. Caleb breaks down further as this friend tells him that he suffered a severe injury and he is still in Iraq, not back home with his family. Caleb attempts to go to his home unit, however, it is only a vacant building. He rushes home to find another person living within.
As he further loses his own reality, the cops are called and Caleb assaults the individual inside his home. He wakes up in a hospital with a doctor informing him that he has lost all sense of reality. Caleb attempts to wake up from this nightmare, however, he must face the true reality that he has buried deep within. He migrates through several realities to discover a hell that he must partake in before he will find the actual truth. One last mission pulls him back into his this nightmare that he must experience.
