Ending the Eczema Epidemic: Surprising Solutions to Transform Your Child's Skin from Within

Rate this book
The byproduct of years of practice in the medical field, Ending the Eczema Epidemic was written by Ana-Maria Temple, MD, and John Temple, MD, to expose the factors involved in treating eczema, allergies, and chronic diseases. Contrary to what one might expect, their solutions focus on gut healing through nutrition, removing environmental toxins, and restoring gut and skin microbiomes. In fact, their anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle recommendations would likely improve the lives of anyone willing to try them.

While practicing traditional Western medicine, Ana-Maria and John found themselves facing a troubling diagnosis for their children. Ana-Maria faced the problem head-on. Through relentless resolve, she changed her family’s trajectory for the better. Though there were conflicts and challenges in transitioning to a holistic approach to healthy habits and eating, the resultant wellness was well worth it.

In Ending the Eczema Epidemic, the Temples share insights from their personal journey, and from the times they’ve treated others using their hard-earned wisdom. Everyone knows it’s important to watch what you eat, but for many, this practice is only skin-deep. It’s time to face the truth and work our way toward a holistic future.

I’ve read a lot of eczema resources and this is by far the best most empowering I have ever read. I am so excited to tackle little Josephine’s eczema issues by transforming our diets and working towards and happier and healthier family. Dr. Ana-Maria did some amazing work here!

1.5 because there are some beneficial suggestions and ideas. But the book reads like an extended ad for her program which apparently is very expensive ($4k apparently). Itis very judgemental towards things like c-sections, saying that all moms who have them do it out of convenience.
Also is very inconsistent with language used, I specifically noticed that she called Celiac Disease an allergy, a sensitivity, and an intolerance in different sections. But says all of those are different things. So which one is it? I am very hesitant to trust anything she says if she can't be consistent with terms.

This was a pretty good book. While it would be a good starting point for someone just starting their healing journey, it wasn't quite as life changing as I'd hoped. While I understand that there is no one-size-fits-all way to healing, it's also difficult for families to access actually helpful information without forking out hundreds of dollars, if not more. Other reviews felt like this was one long ad for her eczema program, and I would agree. Though I still found it helpful with surprising facts throughout.

You’re going to learn that eczema can be caused by a multitude of factors and is a complex reaction to a number of underlying health concerns. I gained new perspectives on how to tackle my sons eczema and through a combination of info from these pages and current medicinal practices we were able to get it under control.

I really didn’t enjoy each chapter ending with what seems like a persistent advertisement to an online group and program created by the author. It makes me feel like this book was more of a sales pitch to enlist new customers in the program.

This book is on par with my lifestyle and beliefs in more functional health a holistic approach to health that aim to understand the underlying causes of illness and promote healing. The author talks about her experience as a mom with kids and as a doctor with clients suffering from eczema. Not only is this from personal and professional experiences, it’s also backed with research. I would recommend this book to any mom with kids or adults suffering from eczema.

Dr. Temple’s method worked great for my son with eczema(I believe his eczema was caused by gut problems)! He had eczema on his chin and cheeks and it completely cleared up in a few months. However, the method did not help my husband with his eczema (his eczema symptoms don’t seem to be gut related). Worth a read and a try if you are struggling with eczema!

Healing from within

With so much information on the internet and in books it can be overwhelming to put together a plan to help your body heal without high medical costs, prescription medication and side effects. Drs. Temple’s book is so easy to read and full of science based information I can easily understand. Especially the takeaways I can apply right away in my life and for the health of my family. This book helped me understand that eczema is just the tip of what the body is trying to tell us and how to get back into balance. I also love the easy recipes! A must read!
