In Earth Finding Magic in the Land, animist, witch, and herbalist Britton Boyd invites you to seek out the deep and mysterious connections with the earth that lie at the ancestral roots of witchcraft. She describes the path of the earth witch not as a linear journey of upward growth, but rather as a cyclical one that ebbs and flows with the forces of nature that reflect the world around us—a path utterly different from the spiritual materialism that has crept into the witchcraft often found in today’s capitalist culture.
Drawing on her own experience hiking the entirety of the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2660-mile trek that stretches from Mexico to the Canadian border, Boyd reminds readers that witchcraft has always been based in the energy of the land, and that you can find all you need to practice this magic right beneath your feet.
This book provides those new to witchcraft with foundational practices on which to build an organic spirituality rooted in the natural world, and challenges seasoned witches to renew the ancient relationship with the earth that lies at the heart of their craft. Packed with stories, spells, and rituals, Boyd encourages all of us to live in service to the planet we call home.
This book truly inspires! Every chapter felt intentional and well thought out. There were SO many parts that inspired my own journaling, and even segments in the book that allowed you to journal in the actual book itself, like a field guide. Every turn of the page I was compelled to grab for my own pen & paper and write down my personal musings of the land in which I live.
3.75 - would have liked a little more acknowledgement of the hurdles that a physical disability or chronic illness can put between a person and 'access' to outdoors and the land, and a little guidance towards adapting the practise with those limitations in mind
My experience reading this book is a bit biased because I did start reading it after listening to the podcast the author co-hosted with J. Allen Cross. I enjoyed it but it did take me awhile to get through somewhat from the tone of writing. It’s a good look at finding one of many paths into witchcraft. While some points come off a bit like it’s the only way to approach a specific practice or aspect of a practice, Briton does point out in a few cases alternatives are better than not practicing at all. An example that is clear to me is the Dream Journal. No matter the medium used for recording the information, Briton emphasize its importance for helping decode our own symbolic language within the dream space. Overall the book felt grounded and not super Woo-Woo-y which I appreciate.
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ Earth Witch by Britton Boyd offers an interesting and unique take on witchcraft, blending personal narrative with spiritual practice. I really enjoyed how her own story was woven into the book—it gave the work a grounded, relatable feel. Her perspective brings something fresh to the conversation around modern witchcraft, especially in terms of connecting to the land and personal intuition. That said, while it had its moments of insight, the book didn’t always fully hold my attention or feel as in-depth as I was hoping. Still, it’s a thoughtful read for those looking for a more personal and nature-centered approach to witchcraft.
Earth Witch is an anti-capitalist, nature-focused, guide to witchcraft. The book does have a lot of nature-based practices but also incorporates land, nature, and ancestor spirit work. I enjoyed the sections about dream work and the discussions on journaling and rewilding yourself.

I really enjoyed Britton Boyd’s story of her journey. I found some common ground with her and also had my eyes opened more than once. It’s true, we’re all on our own journey and none of our stories are the same, but still this book is quite relatable and a good read!
This book by Britton Boyd, Earth Witch, is more than just a book of witchcraft, witches connecting with the earth. It is also a fantastic and motivating self help, self awareness book. Eloquently written and executed. This book is a wonderful book to read, use, utilize and reference often. Well done Britton Boyed. Well done.
I’ve been following Britton on social media for quite a few years and have been looking forward to this book. I wasn’t disappointed. It was very inspiring and heartfelt.
A nice refresher course of the witchcraft basics and sets a nice tone for your purpose as a witch. Every witch needs this special little book in their library!
This was fantastic, thoughtful and so informative! I borrowed it from the library so I'll have to order a copy from my local bookstore for my own library.
This book is a love song to witchcraft and to the earth. It is the best book on witchcraft I’ve read. You will not find the latest spell fads in this book. You will find plenty of work to connect to the earth, spirits, and the craft. Britton’s passion is clear. This books has been so inspiring, I really cannot wait to tend to tend to my garden this year and connect with my plants on an even deeper level. I’ve already started a daily journaling practice and look forward to incorporating more of Britton’s guidance into my craft.
The book provides a good how to for a non-traditional practice. It does not dwell on the traditional rituals or Magic, but provides simple guidance to making your own rituals and magic
