Compelling Proposal

Rate this book
From the author of Irreversible Decision comes a brand new billionaire romance about a wealthy businessman who needs to get married within the next 30 days in order to secure his family fortune. And there are many, many strings attached.

Fired from my job, and with little prospect of finding a new one anytime soon, I'm desperate. That is, until I'm asked to take part in an intriguing arrangement. Marry the dashingly handsome Hadley Brooks, and pretend to be the high-society wife that one would expect for him.

I clean up okay, but there's really nothing high-society about me. And I'm not known for being tactful. But I'm desperate for cash, and this gig pays well. Very well. Plus, a bit of acting sounds like fun. It's a shame his pesky ex keeps hanging around.

I'd seen Hadley around at my job before I was fired, but I hadn't paid much attention. Despite having an eye for attractive men, for some reason he'd completely avoided my radar. That is, until now.

What I hadn't noticed, is that Hadley Brooks is dashingly handsome. And very, very complicated.

Heidi Stark writes contemporary dark romance with a twist of danger, desire, and the occasional sports scandal.

Known for her badass heroines and irresistibly morally grey men, Heidi has captivated readers with 20+ titles, including the gripping Blood and Sand series, the fiery Volcano of Pain, and her highly anticipated new release, Beautiful Terror.

Originally hailing from the lush landscapes of New Zealand, Heidi now calls the U.S. home, where she shares her creative chaos with her feline sidekick, Fang.

When she’s not crafting heart-pounding stories, Heidi is a whirlwind of energy—hitting up barre classes, devouring true crime podcasts, dabbling in roller derby, people-watching, or indulging in her guilty pleasure: reality TV binges. Always on the hunt for inspiration, she’s probably plotting her next book—or her next travel adventure.

Dark, daring, and deliciously addictive—Heidi’s world is one you’ll never want to leave.

Awkward and difficult to follow

The timeline in this book makes no sense. There's supposedly a one-month deadline, but then there are multiple comments along the lines of "these past months." The lingo was difficult to wrap my head around, too. It's supposedly set in LA and about Americans, but it was obviously written by someone who is/was from a country with more recent ties to Britain. More picky editing items that might only bother me were the multiple instances in which words were made into perfectly acceptable compound words except in that they changed the obviously intended meaning of the sentence and caused me to backtrack to figure out what that meaning actually was.

Past that, the interactions between characters seem forced and incongruous. I never knew what anyone was going to do. It was like the author felt like people want a lead male who takes control but then has a soft side and had no idea how to actually create that man on paper. The lead female was worse, supposedly having talent and drive but coming off as lazy and not just flakey due to lack of time management skills.

I would not want to be friends with anyone in this book, either at the beginning or the end, and that makes me sad that I spent my time reading it.

A little disappointed

I had high hopes for this book. It stopped abruptly at the end of section and jumped to something else. It took to long to get to the point and then point never came. The ending was steel and made no sense.
