Blow-by-blow account of the shameful and disastrous Johnson government, from ousting Theresa May through winning the leadership contest, ramming through the carelessly planned and negotiated Brexit deal, partying through Covid and lockdown, redecorating the Downing St flat (originally at someone else's expense), up to and including the end of his leadership when the flood of ministerial resignations swept him away.
It's a clear-eyed account that doesn't give in to the temptation simply to huff and puff at his personal evasions, betrayals and dishonesty; instead it fits these into a bigger picture which includes his intelligence, gifts, occasional brilliance . . . and knack for inspiring affection and loyalty.
Readable, vivid and engaging.
